- GoldenBoy1993, on 03/25/2009, -3/+44ill pass on both
- freezerburn666, on 03/25/2009, -3/+23sounds like the 360 one uses a form of radar, very interesting.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+13Motion sensor controllers make me feel too retarded. I don't mind tilting the controller on Fl0wer but it is not my cup of tea.
- Cerialthriller, on 03/25/2009, -2/+14please dont ruin the 360 with motion controls.. If i wanted motion control I'd play the Wii, but I don't.
- bpwrinn, on 03/25/2009, -0/+11I can see both of these getting a 10:1 ratio of crap vs quality games.
- ahhell, on 03/25/2009, -1/+113rd party garbage is the best.
I bet MadCatz comes out with an even ***** version. - timothiuz, on 03/25/2009, -4/+13Seems like Xbox360 is getting Wii-ified
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -1/+10Vibrating stylus was invented by a woman amirite?
- RBobby, on 03/25/2009, -3/+11Microsoft finally get a piece of the motion-sensing action eh?
Meh. They'll always be imitators, Never innovators. - ahhell, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7That was amazing. You managed to troll all 3 companies.
Bravo. - petebot, on 03/25/2009, -2/+9I've got a wii and a 360. It is a gimmick.
- NatMe, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7The DS one is just dumb.
- Cerialthriller, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7its funny because they came out with a Wii2 next year i bet it wouldn't sell for crap. The Wii still plays Wii Sports and WiiFit which is what like 90% of the install base uses the thing for.
- Shazbuckle, on 03/25/2009, -0/+6The six-axis controlls were preety well implemented into killzone 2. You used it to plant charges (in SP only) and to open a bridge at one stage aswell.
There's also a nifty little feature where you can interact with the loading screen with the motion controlls, tilt the controller and the screen tilts aswell. A little gimmicky sure, but it's fun to do and makes the loading seem shorter!
I hear it's very good in the new Ratchet and Clank game though - unrequited, on 03/25/2009, -4/+10...remember when Microsoft and Sony both said Wii's control schema was a "gimmick"? Profitable gimmick worth emulating apparently...
- Mystlyfe, on 03/25/2009, -3/+9Acutally it says pretty clearly it uses ultrasonic sensing. Ultrasonic sensors work on the same principle as radar and sonar (bouncing waves off of surfaces), but aren't the same technology.
Ultrasonic transducers generate high-pitch sounds and listen for their echos.
Radar uses electromagnetic waves rather than sounds. - Pxtl, on 03/25/2009, -3/+8Vibrating stylus for the DS, and a wiimote for the 360.
Worst ideas ever. - dustinjr1993, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5OH GOD WHY?????
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -1/+6Wii games need less waggle and more development toward WiiMotionPlus. 360 and DS games would not have anything exciting for motion controlling. Only WarioWare and Kirby have done it well on portables.
- SpongeBad, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5Oh look...a whole new THIRD PARTY controller for no games to support. Half-assed article, too...the motion sensing controller for the 360 will also be available for the PS3 according to the press release they referred to. Why tell half the story?
"Gametrak Freedom can be used with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and features proprietary and cutting-edge patent-pending ultrasonic technology to provide a true motion capture gaming experience. Unlike other motion sensing gaming systems, Gametrak Freedom accurately tracks the true 3D position and precise movements of up to four players, anywhere within a given environment, giving total control and unrivaled game play opportunities."
Sounds like a modern re-imagining of the Power Glove to me...something nobody asked for, that no games will support. - nickert0n, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4I love the sniping/motion control steady aspect, kicks ass.
- SillyRabbits, on 03/25/2009, -2/+6There's nothing wrong with motion control if it's done properly. However, I returned my Wii within a week when I was completely disappointed with the limitations of the controller. It wasn't terrible, but it really lacked the ability to distinguish any subtle differences in motion - and it really did feel like a 1st generation motion controller. If Xbox or the PS3 can come out with a controller with better response, I think it would really open up some interesting game possibilities. I think it would make a great add-on. And I feel that's what motion control should be...an addon...not the focus of an entire platform.
- petebot, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4the early 1990's called, they want their "it" gaming mechanic back.
- nickert0n, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4To be fair, Xbox Live was done very well and thats all them.
- dominator1989, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3So instead of doing something quietly. It does the exact same thing and pisses off your dog.
- OaklandNative, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3How do you even use the 360 one? The D-pad is right next to the buttons. Does that mean games can only use one or the other at any given time, or are you supposed to hold it two handed like a sword?
- def1, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3You're being generous.
- mywhitenoise, on 03/25/2009, -1/+3I don't even like using them in flower! And thats one of the games that did motion controls right.
The whole idea of flower was to be a stress free game, one that you relax with...but its kind of hard to relax when youre mind is so god damn frustrated with the controls. I would prefer an analog option to that (and every motion controlled) game. - Cerialthriller, on 03/25/2009, -1/+3i just dont want to see games that could be great retuned for motion controls thus ruining any actual difficulty to the game because you just cant do the things with motion control that you can do with a 360 controller. I mean look at the Madden football on Wii compared to 360. Call of Duty multiplayer with motion control, ick. It would be the end of gaming for gamers who like to be challenged.
- Mystlyfe, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2It's probably only going to be useful for a handful of games that are specially designed to be used with it. And thus they'll factor in the control layout.
You can probably play other games with it (like the people who use DDR pads and guitar hero controllers with other games on the PS2), but not be very good at them. - nickert0n, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Yes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt2do5oV2-8&fea ...
- Shazbuckle, on 03/25/2009, -1/+3Learn to paragraph your text.
You are doing something terribly wrong if your ipod gets major problems after jailbreaking. - nickert0n, on 03/25/2009, -1/+3You are a ***** retard, even if you don't like Sony per se, Competition is good.
- Shazbuckle, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2You aren't easily pleased..are you?
- Shazbuckle, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Anyone who diggs this lad down is a fanboy.
So beware - damien1989, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1I wont be buying either, although i'm thinking of going on a Holiday. It has nothing to do with the 3 big and distracting ads on Tech radar about cruises, cheap flights and cheap foreign accommodation, Really
- Borgcube, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1*nudge**nudge**wink**wink* Y'know what I mean?
- toxicityj, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2The only motion sensor controller I ever used was the third party thing for the N64. I used it to play glover and that was about the only game that was useful for.
- spiffyfitz, on 03/25/2009, -2/+3I've always thought of the PC as the choice for "hardcore" gamers. There isn't much point in arguing against the 3 big consoles, as they all have their strong and weak points... But Windows-based games have always been there for me. If you're someone who hasn't discovered PC gaming yet, I highly recommend you check out Steam. PC gaming has a hobby aspect to it, too, since you might have to build/upgrade your computer. I love it!
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Say no more, say no more.
A nudge is as good as a wink to a blind bat, eh?
Your wife...
Does she go?
eh?
Is she a goer? eh? - nickert0n, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1I like it in Killzone 2 when im sniping, if I am slightly off with my original attempt to aim with the analog stick, instead of trying again I can get the finishing touches to my aiming with tilting my controller ever so slightly to aim the rest perfectly.
For me, its so much fun.
Steering in flower is ok, but motion controls I feel should never be mandatory.
Like in Warhawk, its optional, some people swear by them some don't use it, but what do you get? A community that everyone wins. - trdrstv, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2Apparently Mario Kart as well. Not sure if you noticed, but it sold more than GTA4 (all versions combined).
- GojiraBreath, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2$100 bucks says the 360 one comes bundled with a game called X-Games...
- damien1989, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1...because you touch yourself at night!
- Mystlyfe, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2My favorite use was in the first Resistance, but they unfortunately ditched it in the second.
The ability to tilt your controller to bring up the level map and leaderboard in multi-player was genius. It moved them away from buttons (which can now be used for something else) and can made it very quick and easy to bring them up and quickly hide them if an enemy appeared.
Why they got rid of it, and why no other game has thought to incorporate it, is beyond me. - NeoTechni, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1wiimotionplus = higher resolution waggle
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Yeah I sometimes end up straining my hand a bit in that game.
- Borgcube, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2Pretty good imitators at that, but still.
- unit001, on 03/26/2009, -1/+2Yeah I worry that if the Xbox adopts this new add on then it will get the same amount of shovelware. It needs to stay an add on where some games that are designed for it can use it but it wont be the focus of gameplay for the whole system. They should package it with a new starwars game so fanboys can lightsaber around and if it sucks, then its dead but if they pull it off they can dip into other games like sports and whatever.
- petebot, on 03/25/2009, -10/+10You may be right, but you're also douchey.
