- deimos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Interesting that there's no mention of the 3rd factory MS contracted to begin building more 360s, though I assume it'll take some time to get up to speed.
- jclimacus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Alpha, people buy 360's because it is easily the most powerful game console ever made and will be for around a year.
It's because it was worth the money to them. I simply don't understand why you or anyone else is outraged by this independant transaction.
Don't worry: If the playstation/nintendo really is as good as hoped it will sell well too. - infectedRoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For anyone whom reads comments this far down, I work at a Best Buy company (as they own about 6 companies worldwide), and I can vouch that the Xbox360 shortage was NOT due the "chip phenomenon" that the media is inflating about. Recently, my store received over 30 Xbox360s, 10 being premium, 20 being core. These boxes were dusty as hell, kicked around like hell, and best of all bared the sticker on the side of the box "DO NOT SELL BEFORE NOVEMBER 21ST 2005", or whatever date the launch was. That sticker is only on boxes that are shipped way before launch date. Also, the date of the packing slip was also before launch. Which month is it now? When was the launch? Conspiracy? I think not. Definately faked demand.
- Luuvitonen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So I can continue selling these on eBay for 2x-3x the retail price ... jolly good.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Alpha, people buy 360's because it is easily the most powerful game console ever made and will be for around a year."
It's not about the power, it's about the games, which the Xbox 360 lacks. - Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5my comp has better specs than a 360, is cheaper to build, and more functional. It works as a music player, tv, and most computer games out nowadays have better graphics than a 360.
I do have a couple friends who went with the hype and bought a 360. The sad thing is that they got bored with each game within a week. They spend more time playing their psp/ds than the 360.
I'm not saying "never buy a 360". I'm just saying you should just wait until (1)more 360s are made and the price goes down and (2) more 360 games comes out. Buying it just because other people want it, is a pretty ***** excuse. Why don't you sit down and seriously think about it first.
I'd like to end my rant with one word: SHEEEEEEEEP. - xcanadian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh and if you use 'M$' instead of Microsoft of MS please go flog yourself. All but one percent of the nerdiest guys here run it.
- shelby1076, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing sys good marketing plan, like keeping a product from the customers for 3 months. At this rate you won't be able to get one untill the PS3s come out......
- diggAl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I've definitely had fun with my 360. I just haven't had enough time to play it. I only have two games (Call of Duty 2 and Project Gotham Racing 3), but those have kept me well occupied. And half the time I end up playing the Xbox Live arcade games, especially Hexic. When Street Fighter 2 comes out for Xbox Live Arcade in the next few weeks, it will own me. Playing an touched-up SF2 game online against people around the world as if you're in some huge arcade will be awesome.
BTW, I got mine from Costco with a game, 2nd controller, and a few other accessories for only $520. Haven't had any problems at all.
Oh, and I've also loved Apple since 1984 and hated Sony since my third walkman died through no fault of my own. - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Digg - where people come to share in their hate for Microsoft and their love for all things Apple."
Where's Apple's gaming system? - Jon99UT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sucks for these people. I got mine yesterday for retail price!
- skooma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1okay i discredited this article the second i read that ps3 may be out this spring. WTF, if it comes out any time before july, it'll be in japan , then the U.S. in the fall 2006.
so, the 360 still has a few more months in the US to try and get consoles into gamer's hands - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old news to gamers. Just because Yahoo makes a story about it, doesn't mean it needs to be on the front page.
- sayang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there's no conspiracy.
http://www.slate.com/id/2132071/ - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've seen both versions in stock in 3 local shops where I live in the UK just in the last week so I assumes the shortage was over. Not buying one anyway until there are enough decent games and the unit has come down in price. Unless the PS3 is finally out by then in which case I'll buy that
- roastedbagel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1M$ sure has "pwned" people who are still waiting to get one, I feel sorry for them...
- bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not for me! I'm picking mine up tomorrow!
- Eising, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh wow, the heading could as well have been "The famine will continue!!!"
Hooray for sensation-style journalism. Hooray for the masses! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"why would anyone buy a 360? with all the accessories needed, you're looking to spend close to 600 bucks, plus another 80 just to play one game."
dont forget an extra $900-5000 for a decent (keyword: decent) hd tv ;p - mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OMG!!!! Not enough exclamation marks!!!!!!
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Article is mainly conjecture. Although we haven't seen the quick-and-often shipments that Microsoft said we'd see (even said we in the U.K. would see it), there is very little substance in the article.
Still, I won't be even attempting to get one for quite a while yet. I'm very happy with my PC games at the moment. - nattybohman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The analyst at the end of the article loses a lot of credibility with me. He said that they may be holding off producing them to include the HD-DVD drive.
MS has made some stupid mistakes with the 360, but they'd have to be completely brain dead to pull something like that. They are losing sooo much money in software sales during this shortage. Especially since the 360 has the highest "attach rate" of any system launch in the history of games.
This analyst obviously doesn't know anything about the videogame industry or he'd never even suggest that. - Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While I enjoy my Xbox 360, I must say this will go down in history as the biggest failure of a console launch. MS is now making the boxes night and day, but they should have done that PRIOR to launch. Also the games are getting scarce, and there are large gaps in release dates. Not much to show off that "next gen" power yet, and their lead dries up in less than two months. When MS finally gets their act together, Sony will be introducing the PS3, and the whole madness will begin again... with MS completely blowing their lead to get as many Xbox 360s distributed before that launch.
- thisisbullshit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and it has nothing over sony or m$
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with billyocean.
The topics are posted for open discussion right? Therefore, I think any and all opionion that is too one sided in the topic headers should be removed.
For instance, yesterday, there were claims of Radar Guns catching Toyotas at 700MPH. No link was given. The headline also indicated Radar Guns are entirely bad, with no further explanation except the 700 mph toyota.
Thus, the headlines need to be more neutral, and let the readers comment and have our opinons and give our diggs as we deem appropriate. - Sheff3, on 03/25/2008, -0/+0So you have to have a hd tv for the 360?
- Malik112099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What shortage? I walked into Wal-Mart new years day and bought a premium 360......i guarantee one of the wal-marts, targets, best-buys, circuit citys, costcos, sam's, toys r us', or malls within an hour driving distance of me has em in stock...all you have to do is ask....
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh NO! An XBOX 360 SHORTAGE! That would really make me upset if I had ANY intention of buying one! And that would of course, depend on having a single game on the platform that I care about. Doesn't appear that it will be an issue for me anytime soon...
- Victr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Forgot to mention. They have the uggliest controller ever. Even Sega was nicer.
- sniffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In Portugal you can get Xbox 360 everywhere. I guess it's because it costs more than the minimum wage here (375€+/-). If you understand a little Portuguese check this sites out:

http://www.fnac.pt/lista.aspx?op=lc&catalogo=jogos&categoria=xbox360&pag=2 - Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Alphabet, have you ever played a 360 (and I don't mean in a shop, in a proper gaming session)??? Have you played the new Live? No? so shut the fúck up then.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Xbox 360 Shortage will Continue!!! UNTIL MORAL IMPROVES
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I early adopted the first XBox and enjoyed one of my favorite games ever, Azurik.
I no longer will early adopt, that included just about everything.
PS3 will have shortages much worst than this.
Revolution, not much as so. - au071, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And don't forget the greedy companies like amazon.com that has XBox 360s but only sells them in $1000 bundles. People should boycott Amazon as well...
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The 360 has to be the dumbest piece of crap I've seen hit the video game market for years.
- fyrfyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Something tells me that before years end, Xbox360 is gonna be garbage, when there are going to be numerous PS3's around. Did anyone see the report from the Executive at Pioneer, who stated that they expect Sony to ship 4 - 7 million PS3's before the end of the year? I wonder if Sony is stockpiling their systems, that way They don't run into the same problem that dummy Microsoft did.
- jeebwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Already have it so, ha
- adiosjefe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you watch the Xbox 360 Tracker web site there appears to be no shortage of bundles. No one wants to sell the console without adding $400-$500 more worth of accessories.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait they said the chips are hard to make, and even when they make them it they might not work right and so they cant be put in an 360
NO DIGG - kaz928, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My local wal mart had a 2-3 the other day.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heres an idea, bring back all those systems that didn't sell in Japan, reprogram them for this region and ship them out. Should take care of current shortage and leave enough to spare...
- cakeofd00m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All I know is that this shortage is not due to Microsoft making Xbox 360s with HD-DVD drives in it. It was said numerous times by many different Microsoft employees that they will no be putting HD-DVD drives inside the 360 because it will make it even more expensive and they do not want to screw the early adopters. The HD-DVD drive is going to stay external which in my eyes is a good idea, if HD-DVD fails than all we would have to do is buy an external Blu-Ray drive and if Blu-Ray fails the PS3 is screwed because the drive is internal and they will be forced to release an external drive as well or they will not be as cutting edge as they are claiming they will be.
- vagrantradio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft is not putting any "new drives" in their console, they plan on releasing the hd-dvd as an add on accessory that will only make a difference in movies played on the system, not games.
I love my 360, i just got bored with all the release games a month after it came out and now it just collects dust. Microsoft has screwed this up. - dj88masterchief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow what a suprise luckily I already have mine and i love it i don't know about you people who are critizing the 360 because i think its great and i would never sell it for my life!
- PhantomJM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0According to Major Nelson, MS will have a new manufacturer up and running shortly. Hopefully, this will get the whole supply & demand thing a little more under control.
- mattyway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Xbox 360 Shortage will Continue!!!"
Hell the 360 hasn't even been released in Australia yet and here the Xbox has a market share of 35-40%. They're struggling to sell them in Japan, where surely they know they didn't have much of chance to begin with, yet here is Australia, where they have one of the biggest market shares they still haven't released it.
Microsoft sure screwed us over. - KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got mine, Game Crazy will put your name on a waiting list for a small down payment, I waited only 2 days once I got put on the list and you don't have to buy a package this is console only + whatever else you want.
- anasazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shortage? up in southern maryland they had them stacked at the local bestbuy just after christmas, dozens that hadn't moved.
- Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Matching Headline & Post with Gratuitous Capitalization!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
calm down there kid. - Polaris75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From the article: "or perhaps it is delaying to produce more units with an HD DVD drive, which Gates announced at the show." ...
Didn't he announce it would be an external add-on?? I've never seen such a stupid mistake in a Yahoo article ... -
