Xbox 360 Premium pricedrop, Core cancelled, HDMI this May
xboxic.com — German site Xbox-Archiv, known to be quite reliable, stated that the Core pack will be canceled, the Premium will drop to 299 euro, the black HDMI-supporting 360 will be launched this May for 350~450 euro, and finally Halo 3 will hit stores right before Christmas 2007.

- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44This is good to hear. I wonder if Sony will respond in kind, or allow the price gap to widen further?
- cool8man, on 10/12/2007, -19/+63Sounds like nonsense. Why would they drop the core pack when they just made a huge deal at GDC about introducing a 512MB memory card?
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -26/+10@cool8man Because future games for the X360 are going to be requiring the harddrive. Unfortunate for core users.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+77The memory card has it's uses, even if you have a hard drive..
- XedLos, on 10/12/2007, -39/+17Bye Bye PS3 it was nice knowing you go back to your "HOME"
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40how much is the 512mb memcard going to be? they should just allow USB drives to act as memory cards, much like the Wii and SD cards.
- MutatedDingo, on 10/12/2007, -32/+18I like to think of the 360 as an inflatable dildo that Microsoft continually blows up more and more, penetrating the rear end of Sony until it falls into submission
- gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -39/+4remember when the core system was sold on amazon for $100? that's because microsoft lowered the lowest price the system could be sold for. i say they start selling the cores for $99
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -20/+8Easily marked as inaccurate for now, considering Microsoft has yet to actually confirm anything relative to this.
- rewen, on 10/12/2007, -13/+13I think it's inaccurate. They've already said the 360's w/ HDMI were concept only (and you can see many other designs in the video that comes on any 360 w/ a hdd), and that the black ones were dev units.
And there's no reason to stop selling the core unit when it's the same hardware as the premium. They simply make more money off of extra accessories that way (hdds, wireless controllers, mem cards, headsets, component cables, etc). If the core hardware were different (like the PS3 20gb vs 60gb, where the card reader & wifi are only in the high end) then maybe I could see them discontinuing it. Personally I think they SHOULD stop selling cores since a hdd is really a must have, and it's just ripping people off to have to buy one separately for so much more money than it would have been to get a premium in the first place. - KillerJ59J, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17gconeen: No retard. That was a special Amazon was doing, Microsoft has nothing to do with Amazon's marketing stunts. They gave people a vote on five outrageous deals and the people picked the xbox 360 to sell 100 for $100.
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -34/+6As a current Xbox 360 owner I'm not too happy about all this.
My 360 is about to become obsolete and if I'm going to get a new console with HDMI support it won't be another Xbox. - Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26@piper999
How is it obsolete? You are not losing any features. Using you logic, practically everything you own is obsolete since there is always something better out there. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I heard this rumor a few months ago from some game bloggers who chatted with Microsoft dudes. I didn't believe them at first, but these are the same exact details I heard... soo....
- durrty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3"I think it's inaccurate. They've already said the 360's w/ HDMI were concept only (and you can see many other designs in the video that comes on any 360 w/ a hdd), and that the black ones were dev units."
I've spoken with some higher-ups at MS and their WILL be a HDMI unit, in fact what I was speaking to them about was how they were going to be switching out their display units in stores because they felt that the PS3 had a better picture due to having HDMI out. The price drop WILL happen as well, what they haven't decided is if they wanted to wait until after the Halo 3 launch or do it before, but they are planning a price drop, I just can't confirm if it will be soon or around holidays, word was that the manufacturing costs were actually coming down quicker than they expected. - LACHRYMIST, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5The Microsoft rep for an unnamed store i work at...confirmed that there will indeed be an HDMI/120GB HDD/IPTV out just before summer...we also have a Xbox UPC that comes up as just under $500....and the Core is def disc, every store in our region is discontinued and the moment we sell out, they will never be restocked.
- rewen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I know the pricedrop has been confirmed. I didn't mean to say I don't believe that part.
If this HDMI model does turn to be real and released soon then I'm definitely going to wait it out and see if I can somehow swap mine for an HDMI one. I managed to short out the rear USB port on my console.. but warranty will cover it as long as I don't mention that it happened while something else shorted out on the same line (it took the whole house down for a second actually). I was moving stereo equipment on carpet.. etc. heh.. - PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6roughly translated through economic scale that means
NEW PRICES in USD:
Premium $299
HDMI 120GB $399 - stappawho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@LACHRYMIST
I love stories like that, you know why? Because they are BS. Your store rep doesn't know crap. There are very few people within MS that know what is going on. MS has something like 70k employees, not including contractors and what not that probably your store rep falls under. Do you think for a minute that all of those employees know what the hell is going on behind closed doors for the Xbox group? Do you think if that many people were in the know it would be a secret?
The Xbox dev group isn't all that large, and I'm pretty sure most of those people in the group don't know all the facts. I too personally know many people that work for MS and none of them have the slightest clue of any future plans for the Xbox.
@durrty
And no, no 'higher up' is going to tell you anything either.
Now, I could see this happening, a price drop will happen for sure and adding HDMI and/or a bigger HDD would also be a good idea. It's not far fetched by any means. One thing I don't think they should do is drop the core. The should however drop the price of the core to $250 or less to compete directly with the Wii. Maybe throw in a 512 memory card or add in a gig of flash memory. - razorsharp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0@steepawho
You're right. XBox reps aren't even hired by Microsoft, they work for some B2B company. Nintendo reps are the only reliable ones because they actually work for Nintendo and they never fling rumors about or reveal anything they're not supposed to.
- eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43This isn't definite even though the title makes it seem it is.
- Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Welcome to digg! Cheers!
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yes, we have single handedly cured cancer, zombified dogs and given mice amnesia!
- clinch67, on 10/12/2007, -39/+3they already announced a price drop for ps3, funny thing about all this is the ps2 is both outselling the xbox and ps3 combined.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Is it really? It wasn't according to the last stats I checked. Even if it did, it's to be expected. Didn't the original PS outsell the PS2 for the first year of the latters lifetime?
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Link please clinch.
Typically, console manufacturers don't cut their system price when they are still losing $300+ per sale at their current pricepoint. Microsoft has finally started turning out a profit on their consoles ($70 something I think), so it made sense for them to do it. Nintendo, considering they came out the gates already turning up a profit, could easily follow suit if they felt it was necessary. Sony is just screwed regardless. - TheMikey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Really? Because in Canada our PS3s went from $659 to $699. Does this mean that they'll be going back down? To an even more reasonable price? I couldn't believe it when our Sony Rep (I work at London Drugs) told us that the prices were going to change in the next week and to inform our customers about it... I just assumed that the change would be a price drop... how foolish.
- Segitz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10This is interesting, the 360 can already be bought for 299€ at Saturn here in Germany. (Yes, the premium package).
But I still call BS on this one, as "reliable sources" always sound fishy and are most of the time simply made up.
And, reading the german article, it states nothing about a price cut, but rather that retailers (as stated above) lowered the price on their own.
http://www.xbox-archiv.de/?p=5779
It also states, that german retailers pay about 350€ per package and that MS sponsors them for advertising so the price of 299€ can be made feasable.
He ONLY states, that can can (I quote translated) be "concluded" (es kann davon ausgegangen werden...) that MS will lower the price, not that they WILL lower the price.
The only thing he had from his "reliable" source were those HDMI 360s!!
The other stuff I did not read!- NielsGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Uh, you claim you read the source, but he explicitly states:
- Core is being dropped, confirmed by store manager
- MS is making the 299 price point possible on purpose. Why would other stores not follow suit, thus making the 299 price standard?
- Black HDMI machine is coming
"Damit darf mit großer Sicherheit davon ausgegangen werden, dass die Xbox 360 Premium spätestens ab nächster Woche bei allen Händlern zum Preis von €299,00 zu kaufen sein wird."
means:
"It's safe to assume that the Xbox 360 Premium will be available at all stores for 299 euro by next week at the latest."
Also good to keep in mind is that Xbox-Archiv has had to pull *correct* rumors before by MS' request. - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Did you RTA, Segitz?
- blindwisdom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2RTFA... how hard is that. And I don't mean skim to see where the numbers and bold words are.
And as long as people are speculating, there may be some news in the coming weeks about the 'new' 'premium' 'Zephyr' (whatever) system being green, rather than black. I have heard this said by employees at MS, albeit by one's nowhere close to the Xbox teams. It is my personal belief that they would be stupid to make their flagship console green... and that if such a console exists, it is still in the design stage and will be replaced soon. A redesign would be nice... the hourglass shape is really annoying...
- NielsGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Uh, you claim you read the source, but he explicitly states:
- Barnolde, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38The Core really was the worst decision ever, sure took them long enough to finally bring out the REAL Premium system.
- daveisfera, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9The Core System was just a flat out stupid idea to start with, so it would be good if they got rid of it.
Dave - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12The core wasn't the bad idea. Not making the hard drive standard in all models was one of the biggest mistakes they've made.
- wageslave1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14The Core, a low-price entry point into XBox 360 gaming.. is a GREAT idea. The machine was a great way for people to get a great gaming system, without haveing to shell out a pile. OPTIONS are a good thing.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Actually the core was brilliant. Making parents and other unknowing buyers think that they are getting a deal only to later want to buy a hard drive for $100 more plus other accessories that would of cost a whole lot more than the premium.
Is is smart yes, is it manipulative yes. A very Microsoft way to get more money. - aaronadms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@wageslave1-
options are good, but all xbox owners suffer when the developers are forced to create games that don't require a hard drive. - guitarpro411, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I bought the core because I received a free hard drive through microsofts retail plan and i got a free wireless controller after purchasing a game at circuit city. Saved a few bucks
- daveisfera, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9The Core System was just a flat out stupid idea to start with, so it would be good if they got rid of it.
- mikew101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28If they lower the price of the premium system in the United States I will buy one.
- jollyroger814, on 10/12/2007, -24/+11299 euro is still 394 USD.

- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -30/+5as someone who bought one only a month ago, this is angering news
why isn't there some sort of system to protect consumers from ***** like this- NielsGamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Because it happens all the time to every product that stuff gets cheaper and/or more luxurious as time progresses?
- Sniper596, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10It's called a receipt; if you bought it a month ago, depending on where you bought it, you may still have time to return it.
- Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17what about cellphones that get outdated as soon as you sign that dotted line?
- wvannus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Does it change the product you bought? Buy at Costco or somewhere with a bulletproof return policy. I did that when I bought my 60gig iPod six weeks before the 80gig 5.5 gen came out.
- dougm68, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2 ahhhhhh!
want to touch.. the hdmi port on the 360.
~anybody got a cigerette?- DocNo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I just don't get the excitement over HDMI - it brings nothing new to the table. My component cables work just fine.
Want to talk essential? A bigger hard drive! That's something to get excited over... - badsn95, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4 Might just be me but HDMI's on my tv with PS3 are way clearer then composite cables. Not to mention the new recievers that use HDMI for audio. 1 cable to reciever in, then another from reciever to TV. Cleans up some wires behind the ET center.
- stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Just about anything is clearer than composite. I don't notice a difference on my tv when going from component to DVI.
- Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1I just don't understand the excitement of digital over analog. When I was your age, all we had was analog. That's the way it was, and we liked it!
Seriously, if you can't tell the difference between an analog signal over a digital signal, then I have to ask, why did you even buy an HDTV? Clearly, digital is cleaner. Converting from a digital source to analog, to your TV, then converted back to digital (if you have a digital display), is retarded. - jrieth50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Zam - you are a hype guzzling moron. Not only does a quality set of component cables compare equally to HDMI, but your analog analogy is even worse if you're even brushing on audio. Analog audio IS superior to digital, everything you've ever HEARD in your life has been analog, even if it had to be converted from your sweet HDMI cable for you to hear it. Guess what happens during conversion? Loss. HDMI offers zero benefit in exchange for higher priced equipment so that they can enforce the token restraint on HDDVD or Blu-Ray as well as content flags on your television that they've been working on pushing through the FCC for like 3 years.
- fplouffe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1jreith50, what are you talking about??? You are talking about component matching HDMI and then about loss in analog/digital conversion and then HDMI offer no advantage over component???
Using component cables, you have 2 stages of conversion; at the source be it PS3 or Xbox 360 HDMI and at the display granted it is digital display device. If anyone of the DA and AD converter are crap, the biggest the difference between component and HDMI. When using HDMI, you avoid all DA/AD conversion, no loss, period.
- DocNo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I just don't get the excitement over HDMI - it brings nothing new to the table. My component cables work just fine.
- nsjoker, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8Finally, a 360 worth my money.
- Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3I guess you don't place much value on your money then.
- DiggTheWii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Microsoft would be genius to drop the 360 (Premium) to $300.
Why?
1) That puts the gap between the 360 and PS3 at $200-$300. I think Sony will have a hard time moving them at that gap.
2) That puts the gap between the 360 and the Wii at just $50. With an awesomely established catalogue, Nintendo would have trouble justifying moving a system that has essentially two must own games, one of which is in the package.
Other facts that point to a price drop:
1) The 360 has been out a year and a half. How many people would have waited this long to buy one at the LAUNCH price?
2) They introduced a new DVD (made by Ben-Q, who do it inexpensive style) drive and are switching to 65 nanometer processors. This means a drop in productions costs, which in theory could mean that they could pass the savings on to the consumer.
I have to say that I'm a little partial to the pricedrop, though- if they do drop prices stateside (even if just by $50), I will be line the next day.- mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Um, can anyone tell me if/when a system's first price drop, ever, was a hundred bucks?
- LACHRYMIST, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Can anyone tell me when a system began to recoup production costs within the first year of release? even if it is only $50....
- jrieth50, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@Lach - sure, at least the last 3 systems by Nintendo including their current one. That clear things up?
- rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9We already knew Halo 3 was coming in the fall...even Bungie said that and it's on a new teaser poster.
Granted fall extends until December 20th (or 21st, I always forget), but I some how doubt MS would push it that close to holiday. - killthemoles, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Hopefully this translates to US too, but why do i have a feeling that having a HD-DVD drive is gonna be like owning a expansion pack for the n64? Sure i'll be able to play all the regular 360 games but what about later? I may have been rejected the joys of playing dk64 and Majora's mask as a child but I won't make the same mistake twice....BUT 299! I gotta get me one!
- rudygetz, on 10/12/2007, -51/+2Blah Blah Blah speculation this speculation that...If you dont already have a 360 you're gh3y anyways. If you digg me down it's because you don't have a 360 and are gh3y!
EyE Luv RumoRz!- ImWatchingYou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I own a 360, but I dugg you down because reading your comment makes my eyes bleed.
- Hawker400, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Where in the hell was this when I bought my 360 two weeks ago?
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2your screwed like the rest of us that already purchased, and we all miss out on HDMI.
F you MS. Last time I become an early adopter of any console. - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Rumors have been around for 2 months.
- Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Microsoft like to rape your ass. Remember, that's what they do. Ass rape.
Bend over, the 360 is all lubed up! - Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So what's your suggestion to MS then? Do you want them to keep the console at the same price level through-out its lifetime? Don't you want them to add extra functionality?
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2your screwed like the rest of us that already purchased, and we all miss out on HDMI.
- Sparkio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Iiiiiiiinteresting... Halo 3 vs. Super Smash Brothers Brawl this christmas? It's like a gamer's wet dream. (the answer is both, of course :P)
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4don't forget Spore and Mario Galaxy
- CyrusG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I might be committing digg suicide, but why is everyone so excited for Super Smash Bros.?
I'm not saying the hype is completely baseless, but I'm surprised that it has become the most (or close to it) anticipated game of the year.... and please don't say Solid Snake.
And just in case you haven't buried me already: Linux sucks.
- realn0whereman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4a 550 dollar xbox. now i might considr a ps3....ahhhhh ineed a job
- TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2With a 120 Gig Hard drive I wouldn't mind paying $500 for one of these. I know people will call foul because I'd pay $500 instead of $600 for a PS3. The point I'd make is, I'd rather pay more for a larger hard drive instead of shelling out money for a technology I don't want. I can't nor won't speak for everyone, but I don't want Blu-Ray. Never have, probably never will. I could also care less about HD-DVD. A format makes no difference to me. Content will be distributed over networks anyways, so why not go with something that works for this situation...larger hard drives!
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12HDMI is not really necessary. Keep that port for your fancier DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players. 360 works fine through VGA.
- Darksaber11, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Heh, I'm deeply desiring the Black 360 for a simple but weird reason... I want a 360 controller that matches my PC. :)
- KMartSheriff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Thanks for sharing?
- FormulaOne, on 10/12/2007, -21/+5

2) It has a bigger HD
3) It has an HDMI port
What's next? Changing the name to XBOXStation 3?- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3The PS3 is black, it has a hard drive, and it's HUGE. They should call it the Playxbox. /sarcasm
What an idiotic comment! - FormulaOne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2
Wow, what a lame comment, idiot. Incidentally, you may want to remove that black ***** from your ass.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3The PS3 is black, it has a hard drive, and it's HUGE. They should call it the Playxbox. /sarcasm
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm more interested in the possible HD upgrade. Thats all thats really holding me back from getting one. And now I can't read the article right now (at work). So if it talked about it then I can't see it. Yet.
- Epacitythug, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Thank You Baby Jesus!!
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3So the Xbox is now coming in black and will have HDMI support...are they also going to add a a PS3 logo to it?
- araknidkid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2So...299 euro is like what in US dollars?
- kinseyincanada, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Does anyone here actually know someone who bought a Core system???? Personally i dont care about HDMI cause i dont have a nice t.v. but if i did i would be pissed just as much as the next guy ha ha ha. As for the bigger hard drive, also not a huge deal to me im not planning on downloading movies from X-box Live, the only thing i would want is a black 360 that would be bad ass, hope fully they release a new black controller with a better D-pad thats something i would be excited about.
- Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Very surprising.
Microsoft has always insisted that the Madden/GTA crowd was always a big focus for them, which is why they'd always stand by the Core model.
Frankly, I would have assumed they'd axe the Premium when 'Zephyr' came along and keep the Core.
Either way, ***** better have a way to transfer data from my 20 GB HD over to a nice fat new one without me having to buy a bunch of goddam cards or some ***** dongle.- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree with what you said except, Surprising?? Upgrade or else that's the Microsoft way.
- Warpstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you're worried about content you've downloaded from the Marketplace, they've already said that you can re-download anything you've bought to the new hard drive once you've replaced it. So your movies, XBLA games, themes, demos, etc. are safe. It might be a pain to re-download them, but at least you don't need a card.
Moving your saved games might require a memory card though...
- Darksaber11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@bahimiron
Doesn't the 360 have a RJ-45 port? - araknidkid, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0someone keeps burying my comments, can someone just tell me how much 299 euros is in US dollars?
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Google is your friend: http://www.google.com/search?hl=&cat=&meta=&num=&ie=utf-8&q=currency+conversion
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Even better, Google has built in currency conversion:
http://www.google.com/search?q=299+Euros+in+USD
- vobiwan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3wait a minute. 450 euros equals about 590$ and you get a 120gb HD and HDMI. I might have missed it, but was there any mention of HD-DVD included with this price?? For 10$ more you get a blu-ray drive with a PS3. If the price includes a HD-DVD drive, that might be sweet cause a 120gb HD is awesome, but 590$ for a noisy DVD player just doesn't sound right!!
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You can't do a direct price conversion, because consoles are more expensive in Europe. I believe the PS3 is launching for €499 (20GB) and €599 (60GB) in Germany. Even at €450 (the high end of the price spectrum quoted) the 360 would still be a good chunk cheaper.
- vobiwan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2well, i agree that doing a direct conversion can't be done, but do we know if this will include a HD-DVD?? For 50 euro's more you get a blu-ray drive and HDMI (but only a 20gb HD,but you can upgrade this!)
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2It doesn't include HD-DVD. Also considering you can put an external Harddrive onto the PS3 thru the USB port or just upgrade the internal one that isn't even a factor. The supposed new X360 is a bad move by Microsoft at this price point; it just makes the PS3 look like a good deal.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Split the difference between €350 and €450 and assume the new Xbox 360 will cost €400. Even if you add on another €130 for the HD-DVD drive (even though many people don't want/need one) and you're still only looking at €530. The new Xbox would have a much larger hard drive and a comparable price to the PS3, so I don't see what the problem is. They've got the low end covered with the price drop of the current Xbox 360 premium system to €300 ($264-396 cheaper than the PS3) so I imagine they'll sell like hotcakes.
- NielsGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"450 euros equals about 590$"
Let's repeat it once more: US prices exclude VAT, EU prices do. In practice 450 euro equals $450.
Currently, MSRP for Xbox 360 premium is 399 euro or $399. MSRP for Core is 299 euro or $299. Number is the same, taxes are different, end result is that US is somewhat cheaper. Yes, us Europeans are screwed, but we're used to that.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hell yeah, $300 premium 360 FTW.
- zackiyp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The core system is a huge rip-off, unless you're just buying it to play the Burger King games.
- MaXPL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6wow i stopped reading the comments after the first 10. digg has turned into myspace.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Amen.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope that's true, the core was good for those looking for a quick fix, but a $300 premium would be great!
I'm still getting the HDMI though. - AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Sucks, I just bought my premium. :(
- andyboy2k2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Wow, what an extremely evil and unlucky coincidence that I just bought an xbox 360 about 3 hours ago.
- Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Ass rape. Get used to it. Welcome to the Microsoft club! You know how awesome their software is, now you have a hunk of their fabulous hardware to enjoy! My experiences with Windows has always left me wondering how awesome it would be if they could extend their craftsmanship into hardware! Just imagine it!
Extra Team Microsoft >>> GO!
Microsoft is evil and unlucky - get used it. Seriously, who would buy a Microsoft game console? WTF!?

- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm waiting by the fence, watching carefully Microsoft and Sony to decide which to purchase...It pays to be patient
- slickrick2k1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ask mommy to buy you both
- Baku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A Black 360? Hmmm this sounds suspiciously like the rumoured black 360s that were going to be retailed a while back... but that was apparently a hoax... as the "photo evidence" included was a pic of a black dev kit 360.
I believe the price drop though... and its very welcomed. I've been looking for a decent deal here in the UK for a while. - fmcivic16si, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But does it come with WIFI built in?
- fmcivic16si, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great that they are coming out with a HDMI and a bigger hard drive, but does it come with WiFi built in too? Geez all gaming machines come with WiFi now but the 360...
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Known about this for ages. Anyone who says it's bollocks that the Core is being dropped is wrong.
Black 360, 120GB HDD, HDMI. 65nm and quieter drive. This is the only real improvement.- razorsharp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You haven't known ***** for ages. You need a lesson in reading comprehension. The word "rumor" means unconfirmed and unlikely to be true. All the articles which made those claims were all rumors.
The main disadvantage to the Core - the fact that developers can't assume a HDD is present - won't go away if they discontinue the Core. Furthermore, if there were a price drop, it would make sense to drop the Core price also to rake in low-end users. The price drop is also unconfirmed, and doubtful because since they're already losing money and a further drop would be price gouging that would set them up for anti-trust cases from Sony and Nintendo. Sony could sue because, on the high end, it's impossible compete with a company which sells such expensive technology so cheap. Nintendo could sue because MS would be selling high end systems at the Wii's low end price.
Wake up gamers, Microsoft is bad for the industry.

- kinkyboots02, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2doh, I bought an xbox360 last month. Terrible timing :-(
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as did I.
- araknidkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I did the conversion, and apparently 299 euro's is only 394 US dollars...so they're dropping the price by 5 dollars...?
- DEEP_NNN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2About the only parts of this rumor that have any chance of being correct are the Premium price drop and elimination of the Core system. All the rest of it is fluff. Something to keep us readers on their site a little bit longer. There doesn't seem to be any ends, to which gamer sites will go, to attract attention.
The story is lame and contrived. - anTii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0HDMI xbox should come with HDDVD built in!
- Darksaber11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd agree, but if I'm honest with myself, I want Blue Ray to win. If only it wasn't made my Sony...
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1evrybody keeps saying they know how much 299 euros is but reading through some of these responses prices are all over the place...so 299 euros is?...
- TCampbell76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google converts 299 euros = $392.85 U.S. dollars.
Germany which is the source of this article has a Premium 360 on Germany's Amazon.de at 399 euros, which equals $524.25 U.S. dollars. So dropping it from 399 to 299 euros IS a price drop for them.
Not sure why everyone is comparing the U.S. currency equivalent of euros to what U.S. consumers would pay here because it doesn't matter. The U.S. dollar is worth more in euros. The real question if North America will get a price drop is the question that isn't answered, hence a misleading article. - Viakenny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the 360 was launched here in Brazil last December, for 2999 reais ($1425 USD), Premium pack only, plus media remote, PGR3, PDZero and Kameo.
that IS pricey. blame taxes here.
will that HDMI 360 arrive here? I hope so. but make it the current colors. - offspring06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope there is a price drop soon as I have the money for a 360 but I'm waiting for the first price drop.
