- shelbygt33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Limited quantities and "first come first serve" means that the boosters/cheaters will get all of the prizes, while the average joe won't get squat.
I bet unless you sign up first thing on the 12th, and then play a couple easy 1,000 point games, you still will have a hard time getting a prize after all of the game savers upload their new scores in a matter of minutes.
Excuse me if I don't get excited about this. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The money you SAVE by buying a PS3??? What is this bizzarro world. An xbox 360, w/2 years of xbox live costs LESS than a PS3.
Plus, the PS3 may not charge for online play, but many games have NO online play, so it kind negates the benefit. Call of Duty 3 and Virtua Tennis, I'm looking at you. - subject117, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16The old spice challenge is only the FIRST LEG of the new program. It'll be opened up to the world in the future. It wouldn't make sense for an American company to spend ad money for other parts of the world with no ties.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25"The Old Spice Challenge is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States"
This makes me sad, Microsoft. So much for having a simultaneous global console launch when you exclude most of your consumers from promotions afterwards. - mattcoady, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Finally a reason for the achievements. Too bad I got all the easy ones out of the way. Oh well, there's still king kong.
- Sparkio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Excuse me, are you aware of who their new spokesman is?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOjDIfRLgo4
For the lazy, it is none other than Bruce Campbell. :) Not that I'm gonna start wearin' Old Spice any time soon, but he's the man. - zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9 Be sure to drink your ... Ovaltine??
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well, everyone knows that countries outside of the US rarely wear deodorant, so this contest would need a different sponsor.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Gamefly?
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'll just throw out some key words as to why it doesn't make sense for them to have this contest outside the U.S..... and you can make your own joke out of it....
Gamer.
Old Spice.
France.
Bonus points for using all 3. - killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8oooo... 200 points.. great you can buy a picture pack.....
- bradym80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow I can win a whole two dollars?!
- pmuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5totorototoro:
Doubt it, in my experience, those guys don't wear any deodorant. - anonymouse91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5^ Spam. I think its a money making scheme.
- MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Old Spice deodorant rocks.
I can't believe I'm posting about deodorant on Digg. - omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@daridave: Them's a lot of words that don't mean much of anything to anyone who's read the article. No really, what the hell are you talking about?
- mrdebonair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So you work your butt off trying to get all the achievements and you're rewarded with some stupid advertisement (Old Spice shirt)?
- Deranged, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thanks for the welcome.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Your list reminds me of that quote in the movie Trekkies. "Yeah, we've been doing this Star Trek party every year, and it keeps getting better. This year a girl even came..."
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sure you'll see a bunch of guys proudly wearing those at the next Comic-Con convention :p
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4bradym80, You are sadly mistaken, my friend. 200 Microsoft points is in fact, two dollars and fifty cents, if in fact, you could actually buy 200 Microsoft points, which I'm not sure if you can, since the lowest denomination for purchase seems to be..400 Microsoft points?
- kerryh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like this idea, but Live is already hacked.. There are people with 100,000 points already. There are sites out there that post Xbox 360 Save games so you just import it to your box. Really kind of sad, The achievements are one of the best things about Xbox Live.
- brad77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@daridave
Er, I think you meant to post that here:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion_Hands_on_PS3 - AgntOrnge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You do know that it has nothing to do with MS but the laws of different countries right? They don't just decided over lunch one day, "Ahh yeah! Let's mess with the UK now and hose them wankers over! it will be great!!"
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@rlq420: There's a device that give me free geek cred? Where do I buy one?
- trunk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Too bad the reward isn't a fishnet leg lamp.
http://www.theleglamp.com/ - rlg420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ quanta88
I believe he is referring to the third party device that will allow you to get achievements without ever playing the game. Yes copying game saves with a memory card doesn't work. Besides Microsoft stated they would be monitoring this. If a gamer gets 1500 points in a matter of seconds then they will now he used a game save. If you haven't noticed achievements are stamped when you unlocked them. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5So the achievements you have already obtained, don't count? That blows...
http://live.xbox.com/member/Speaker%20Ender - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I wear old spice, it smells quite good.
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Level 1: Ok you may have a life but if your moving towards level two then thats quickly fading away.
Level 2: You definitely don't have much of a life but there are bigger nerds out there. You may know a girl or two but they probably want nothing to do with you.
Level 3: Wow you've reached the pinacle of geekidum. You are so lifeless that you make that guy from the South Park WoW episode scream wow when he sees how little of a life you have. Look at the bright side though, you will probably win a free T-shirt to show off how you have no life. - Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2not bad for a days work
- shelbygt33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I consider myself a "normal" video game person. I've had my 360 for over a year now, and am at about 11,000. That's just from regular playing through the course of a year.
Nice to know I'm all of a sudden a geek! - andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Welcome to MS version of the WoW honor grind...
- anonymouse91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I doubt it will open up to the rest of the world. Remember the Xbox Live Diamond Card?
- CyrusG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@kylesellers
The achievement points you've already earned "determine the rewards you are eligible for during each Challenge."
Level 1 (0 – 4,999 annual Gamerscore)
Level 2 (5,000 – 9,999 annual Gamerscore)
Level 3 (over 10,000 annual Gamerscore)
Take note that it's your /annual/ Gamerscore, so everything you've earned since January 1st, 2007. Seems a bit ridiculous to have over 10,000 by April 12, but oh well, I guess it should be challenging. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3www.360gamesaves.com
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I meant to say www.360gamesaves.com with an arrow saying that they're a bunch of cheating bastards, but digg took it upon itself to edit my post.
grrr - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@quanta88
Actually, there is a way for many games to magically increase gamerscore. It doesn't work on newer games all the time, but with a memory card to USB adaptor and a program called Xplorer 360, you can load many games and instantly either get 1000 points (Dynasty Warriors, FIFA 2006, DOOM, Full Auto, etc.) or load a game right before each achievement unlocks (Quake IV, Outpost Kaloki X, Tomb Raider: Legend, etc.) - elektrokuter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty interesting. I wonder how often they will do this kind of thing. I guess a lot of it will depend on response. There are a lot of achievement freaks out there who will get this. This will also get people to buy/rent/borrow cheap, crappy and/or easy games for more points.

I wear Old Spice. Original scent. It is much loved.
That said, I've no desire to wear a stupid t-shirt advertising them .. - Rangoth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great idea.
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm married with a full-time job where I'm out of the house from 6:30am to 7pm every night... and I've managed to amass 9,000 gamerpoints since Dec. 2005. None of them were from the easy games either (except 600 points from Madden 2006, and only because I actually wanted to play it).
- quanta88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Just copying someone's savegame doesn't mean you automatically inherit any achievements. Just try it. Create a new gamertag on your own 360 and copy some savegames into your new account. There ARE ways to gain GS (boosting, achievements-for-hire) but there is no magically way to gain gamerscore.
- Sheco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1daridave said: "anyone with an IQ above 0", which is anybody who knows how to write comments in right story.
sorry, that excludes you, davidave, good luck next time, keep trying. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1* The Old Spice Challenge is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States (includes D.C.) age 13+ who are Xbox Rewards members. Limit one (1) Rewards Package per person. This offer expires on April 12, 2007, while supplies last. For Xbox Program Terms & Conditions, check back here after February 12.
- anagai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0would like a medal or trophy. If this is it, dont care about it at all. Once again MS disconnected from reality.
- superbro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1cool idea, but not a fan of the united states residents only part. what about us canadian gamers?
- rlg420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11500 points? That should take me about a day to get....sheeez make it harder next time people. Looks like I will be getting an arcade game I already bought, a t-shirt that will shrink beyond wearable, enough points to get half an arcade game and a retail game that is a big turd. Woohoo
- ryansimbalist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0OMG Read this last part "a memory unit or a hard drive, an Xbox Live Gold or Silver-level subscription, and specific Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade games." great now u need specific games just to be eligible
