- fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -44/+295The guy got an Xbox in Nobember 2005. In March 2007 it broke. That's 16 months after he bought it.
Microsoft offered to fix it and extend his warranty, at a fee. That is completely normal for everything else If anything else breaks 4 months outside of the warranty.
So yeah, Microsoft is evil because some dickhole didn't get an extended warranty. ***** MICRO$OFT!!!!!!!111 - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+233Watch out Sony/Nintendo, you are *****! MS have a talking console!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+232You obviously don't have the elite.
- mushroom, on 10/12/2007, -8/+188Shouldn't it be "Xbox360 Support Tells Customer "I Am Laughing At You" And Hangs Up" Since the 360 cant talk at least mine doesn't
- Detritus, on 10/11/2007, -20/+186No it sounds like this guy is an idiot. He tampered with the box and then expected Microsoft to go near it? Nah this guy was an uppity prick with the customer support when they wouldn't go near his tampered brick, so the customer service laughed at him.
Sorry, this is not the excuse to hate Microsoft you're looking for. - nova912, on 10/17/2007, -22/+187I worked for an apple reseller for a couple years, I love apple, but don't think for a second they are not all business.
- Burritoking924, on 10/11/2007, -7/+72"I asked for his supervisor. He said 'I am the supervisor.'"
Somebodies been watching too much Chappelle's Show. Season 1 Episode 1 for those who dont know. - Bob042, on 10/11/2007, -3/+60That's what I thought... It would be even creepier if my xbox told me it was laughing at me..
- EndersGame, on 10/11/2007, -3/+56My Xbox360 laughs at me all the time. One of these days I will finally beat GOW and show that bastard, but until then I am just a miserable failure in the eyes of my entertainment system. I must go, my 360 wants another beer.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44And here my xbox360 only bitches about its day and wants to talk about "feelings" :(
- stoppedcode12, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45The guy's x360 warranty may be viod, but the service rep didn't need to be a jackass about it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+45So the idiot voided his warranty and screamed at MS to fix it? Hell yeah its funny.
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -8/+44@willis911
Coming right up.
Would you like the service rep to be a guy or girl? - ynggrsshppr, on 10/11/2007, -5/+38*Inaccurate*? Did you read it?
- waterdrop, on 10/11/2007, -8/+41I clearly remember seeing Xbox 360 for $399 and PS3 for $599. And the Xbox 360 had better games, so I went with that.
- crawdad62, on 10/11/2007, -5/+37I'm a Mac guy and I'm embarrassed by your comment audiomodder.
- Ajjah, on 10/11/2007, -27/+56I personally think that the customer was the one being the idiot. He should have read the terms of the warranty and seen that he should not tamper with the xBox.
Not to mention that this sounds extremely unrealistic. Anyone else sense that "Jose" and "David" seem like rather unrealistic characters? Just sayin'...
Flame me, and Digg me down please. - nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -7/+34Microsoft customer support has always been really nice to me whenever I call, they're not in India or anything (or if they are, they have accents good enough so I can actually understand them). Granted, I shouldn't have had to call them at all (they should've made their consoles better) but they were always very helpful.
- sugarazor, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32Here's what happened when my 360 died:
Me: Yeah, my 360's dead. I went through all the troubleshooting solutions on your website and none of those did anything. But I am still under warranty
Customer Service Rep: Well, I'm sorry to hear that, we'll send out a pre-paid package for you to return your console in the next 3-5 business days and we'll have your console back to you as soon as possible.
The end. Do I get to submit this as a story too? - calbff, on 10/11/2007, -9/+34So many are missing the point(s) here.
1) The tech was a dick. No matter what happens, "I'm laughing at you" is not an acceptable response!
2) He only "tampered" with the box because he was told by Microsoft that it wasn't under warranty. Was he supposed to just let it sit in a corner hoping it would someday come back under warranty? This is an exception to a rule and he likely should have been given the repair even though it was tampered with.
Either way, there are far worse cases of customer service and this hardly worth mentioning. - Lux7, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28I didn't know 360s could talk.
- Ransomowris, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23I, for one, welcome our new Xbox Elite overlords.
- moofree, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23I stopped reading when he had a 'computer professional' crack it open.
I'm laughing at this guy too. - illogicz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+27RTFA
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23"I am the supervisor guy...I make the supervisions of what's best, and I'm laughing at you."
- Lennalf, on 10/11/2007, -11/+24@crimsonnblue (#6651803)
Yes. Mac fanboy. Because you know about all those awesome games the Mac has for their console. Oh wait, there is no such console. I mean, all those awesome games they have for their PCs. Oh wait, those games don't exist, either.
Being anti-Microsoft is *not* the same as being pro-mac. It's not a dichotomy. I hate both more or less equally. - omgJOHN, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Yeah ... same experience here. No issues at all. Maybe if he wasn't an idiot and opened it. I think you'll find if you open any system and try to have it returned for repairs to the manufacturer they wont take it. MS is only being blamed here because it's cool to do so.
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14Well microsoft just kept giving him new ones. What he shouldn't get a new one for free?
- svartgotik, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15seriously...how do you strike out with the same thing 5 times?
5 TIMES.
5.
If something breaks on me once, i get leery about a replacement, and under no circumstances would i tolerate it if it were to break a second time on its own. - RHEEK, on 10/11/2007, -10/+18Sounds like codelogic needs to calm down.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12So says Consumerist, Meaning there is a 3% chancethat it actually DID happen.
- calbff, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Digg me down
- scabbers, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8He probably cracked it open himself and attacked it with a heat gun lol.
- Whamola, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'm surprised that they could even understand the customer service rep.
- chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Well Insulting him was wrong
but he did void the warranty
It was opened
don't bother calling them if you have voided the warranty
reminds me of this...
http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20030530 - millertime588, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Lesson learned: Don't tell customer service how you voided the warranty.
- tower31, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6"Cut to 4:00pm est. on May 11th, it is my birthday witch is ironic"
Nothing worse than those ironic witches..... - Heembo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I'm feeling sad for this guy. You open the box yourself you void the warranty or any further support or help from MS, paid for or not. Plain and Simple.
- rwallen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I bought Windows Vista when it was first released and there were some problems I was having so I submitted support tickets. After a couple hours using a remote desktop one of the issues still couldn't be solved. Microsoft sent a technician to my house and had him take care of everything. This all cost me nothing.
- Izacus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+790-day warranty? Ew.
Thankfully mine has one year warranty. - XtremeBug, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Doubt it. I recently had the exact same thing happen to me where one second the video is working absolutely perfectly, then all of the sudden the colors lower like crap and when you restart it, video ceases to work all together. Not sure how common it is, but I've seen a lot of people complain about the exact same issue on the Xbox forums.
- svartgotik, on 10/11/2007, -8/+12There's a lot of "my side of the story" holes in the article.
Why would he take the 360 to a "computer repair professional" instead of just biting the bullet and paying the repair cost if it was indeed OOW? What sort of "professional" was this person? Was it a network admin at his wife's bank that lives two houses down? Didn't he know that holographic sticker is going to indicate the case has been opened? Wouldn't the "professional" warn him of the risks of doing this?
This guy reads like one of those folks that has "how things are" mapped out in their head compared to how they really are, or doesn't think ahead and then feels the need to blog about it when his errors in judgement cost him. - totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -10/+14Service with a sneer..classy.
- rouslan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4He should have carefully removed the tamper tags instead of ripping them out. I use a very small flat-head screwdriver or steam from a tea kettle to carefully remove and retain the tags, since I mod, repair, inspect electronics that are under warranty.
- svartgotik, on 10/11/2007, -7/+11Don't buy launch...anything.
I don't have a Wii...thought i couldn't live without one at launch...half a year later and i'm officially over it. - FetalSage, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"I have read stories saying the launch consoles have up to a 80 percent failure rate"
80% failure rate would make Microsoft do some sort of recall or replacement plan. I would say the failure rate is like most other electronics, 3%-5%. Definitely nowhere near 80%. - yugiohdan6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@crimsonalucard
most game systems don't have the really good games until like 6 months after release. - mykos, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8I worked in a retail store when I was in college, and sites like The Consumerist make me want to puke. All the jerk customers post their stories and act like they were innocent angels, pretending they were singled out for no reason whatsoever and that mean person on the phone/at the store is entirely in the wrong.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://www.360voice.com FTW!
- KMartSheriff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4One thing I've learned about buying just about anything tech: Always wait for Rev. B
