- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18don't say finally already... the hypervisor exploit was was already patched by Microsoft, so unless you haven't turned your 360 on since say January 2006 then this might be of some use but until then just wait for another exploit to be found
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Oh, look, you replaced an S with a dollar sign. Aren't you the clever one.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Agreed, XBMC makes media center looks like a childrens toy.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Why is everybody concentrating on this hack? It will ONLY work on an Xbox360 that was updated between a very specific time nearly half a year ago and then never updated again since then (Between OCT 31 and JAN 8 I believe). If somebody has an Xbox360 that was last updated before oct 31 or updated after Jan 8 then this hack will not work.
Not to mention that if somebody updated it would not be possible to downgrade to make this hack work either thanks to the patch blowing an e-fuse.
So why do I keep hearing stories about it? Yes its cool and interesting to know about, but probably less than 1% of the Xbox360 population has a system capapible of using these hacks. Most owners of an Xbox360 either never updated their system at all, which means they never got the update that had this exploit, or they always update their system, which means they already have a system that is completely immune to this hack.
Now everyone is diverting their resources into creating homebrew for this hack instead of trying to find a more decent hack that at least some of the Xbox360 population can use. It was a cool hack, but the keyword is "was", its useless to almost everybody now, time to move on. - ThetaDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Man, that ScummVM is everywhere. I've never seen another app ported to so many devices.
I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a ScummVM port for my microwave or something.
Guybrush Threepwood fights another day! - helfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5doodlemaster: games update it too, so if you've played games your screwed too.
- DoodleMaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@calebhawk
or if you Xbox three60 isnt connected to teh interwebz-a - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It was patched January 9th 2007, not 2006... but yeah, it's still a long shot
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How appropriate, your microwave can roast a cow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5interesting reply :)
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Emulators and a lot of other homebrew stuff is written in C, XNA however is C#, this means that basically all applications have to be written from scratch to be run on XNA and that is a lot more work then just recompiling an already existing C application.

Because they don't make hacks for you. Homebrew devs don't entirely care for the gen.pop when they code, especially when they are exploiting, and they don't always code for the latest version. See the PSP for a prime example, it was stuck with 1.5 forever, and eventually woked its way to 2.6, and now finally has 3.03.
When theres a weakness somewhere in code, theres always another. Do NOT think its your right, and that homebrew devs OWE you anything. TBH your comments come off quite ignorant, and I am not too sure why your are being modded up for having such a conceited, narrow-minded view, other than the fact that you are stating obvious facts in a negative tone. - autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2XBMC for 360 would be a worthy goal.
...But running adventure games on the X360? Ok, I guess it's good that they are working on that, but why would anyone seriously need it when 5-year-old PCs can easily run ScummVM and with better controls(and even possibly Wiimote support with drivers) to boot? A waste of time, says I. - falconfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Cyber Akuma:
before you make a long-winded diatribe about this, you should understand what you are talking about. this hack only affects people who have updated since jan 8. ANYONE who hasn't is eligible for this hack. people who have a kernal dated before oct 31 can update using the HD-DVD kernal update (available in the forums of x-scene.com). ANYONE who doesn't have the latest kernal (4552) can remove the R6T3 resistor to ensure that they can downgrade from 4552 to earlier kernals. - to819, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ thethirdwheel,
People modding in Halo 2 requires absolutely NO MODDING to the actually console. You can just as easily hook up your xbox 360 hd to your computer and transfer over the patched maps. You don't need the ability to run unsigned code you asshat so next now what you're talking about before you comment and look like an ignorant fool. - m00nstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People make comments about the efuse without understanding the technology behind it. Like "oh it blew an efuse, I get it, now it can never be changed back to a previous state". Total ignorance.
Wikipedia reference (efuse page):
"The primary application of this technology is to provide in-chip performance tuning. If certain sub-systems fail, or are taking too long to respond, or are consuming too much power, the chip can instantly change its behavior by 'blowing' an eFUSE. This process does not physically destroy the eFUSE, so it is reversable and repeatable."
"Blowing" an efuse is not a physical permanent change to the hardware. - zoda99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes most likely
- speezer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a xbox 360 with the 4532 kernel. It has been disconnected from the network since the end of last year. Would people pay extra for this if I put it on ebay?
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm curious why there is almost zero attention on the legitimate XNA approach. I would pay $99 a year to be able to run homebrew, but so far it looks like very few people are releasing free software onto it as a platform. Is it because the current limitations (for example.. no networking) are too unappealing to emulator porters..? Are there other more glaring limitations?
- NJank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ahh, you young'un. Everyone knows microwaves are for generating radioactive steam. Or for nuking hamsters. (or was it a gerbil?)
- silversilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live in Japan, the original shipment of 360's are still on sale here in some places due to poor sales, I'm sure they contain the original firmware that the 360 shipped with.
- mightyfelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this doesn't helps us till now because it only works on Dev/demo/test boxes.
the hypervisor exploit seems nice but it wont be useful if we don't find a second bug which is still present in kernel 4552 but maybe something like this can be accomplished through reverse engineering from inside the box :)
i look forward into a big homebrew future for xbox 360 - graemee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Try cooking CDs fun for the whole family.
- armandogo23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The real deal is Beggining!!! Let's let em' do at all...
- killplaystation, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3no, you must not know the 360 hardware. Its not just, full of holes. This is what we've been waiting for, it may allow for a different hack with data gathered from the access granted thru hypervisor, but dont expect some miracle hack just cause you suggest [wish] so
- NJank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@xNaquada: no one's been modded at all here. Some people have been dugg up. you are not one of them.
- filippo73, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2it' s not a hack. Really some guys are working to these emulators. and then, who has not a PC? Nobody needs xbox 360 to run Scumm or Mame. I think is a unuseful work.
- ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I always wanted the chance to play ScummVM and MAME360 homebrews. I hope the new games for MAME and ScummVM are good.
- archanox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Oh wow, so many people have go this wrong. This is not a hack, this is some guy developing on a professional SDK for the 360. How he got his hands on it is unknown. But this is far from a hack, and will not lead to a hack other than inspiration.
- killplaystation, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2you dont 'just wait for another big exploit', until this it was thought that the only way they'd ever get full homebrew was by replacing the CPU, aka, ridicules.
This IS the big exploit, there wont be anything better or simpler for a LONG time. They'll find a way around the kernel problem, theyre hard at work - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2no video? no sale.
- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4interesting comment :)
- yardman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Plz microsoft so all you can to stop the xbox 360 from being hacked....i don't want my gaming experience to suffer b/c of these idiots....
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Don't Digg this man down. Who the hell needs yet another way to emulate 15 year old games? The 360 is already a media center PC, I can stream music, movies, and whatever else I want from my Media Center PC. They already have a "hack" that allows you to play burned DVD's...so stop trying to crack it already. Halo 2 got ruined by people flying around the screen with auto-aim, I don't want Halo 3 ruined because some asshats wanted to play frogger on their 360.
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2this will make XBox360 KING! PLZPLZPPLZ @_______@
- columb, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3Finally!
XBMC360!!!! - baadkarma, on 10/12/2007, -18/+1interesting news :)
