- Portwineboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Seriously. As if posting on Digg wasn't enough for you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11you could care less? Excellent
Well I couldn't care less about you being in an endgame guild, I'm at the total limits of not caring - demonoidphenom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Let's see if the Blizz servers can handle all that lag now.
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Linking BG's across realms are a great idea, except Blizzard's major system changes & maintenance are a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved.
I quit 6 months ago and I've never looked back, it's a fun game but I couldn't stand raiding for 8 hours a night just to get [Item of Marginally Better Stats Worth 2 Hours of Wipes & Fighting]. Couple that with the fact that I was an officer in my former BWL farming raiding guild, it just left a sour taste in my mouth.
They need to work on Realm stability, Mage (and other) class reviews, and try to flesh out some of the nasty bugs before the expansion hits the shelves.
Oh, and for all you monkeys that are complaining about the BG's, I'll let you in on a little secret : The BG's are Blizzard's "casual raiding" solution. You don't have to organize anything 39 other people, you shoot right in, earn your points, and can leave whenever you want. Think about that for a minute.. The Rank 14 gear is good, and it would take you even longer if you were to acquire all raid-based epics of the same quality. - russizm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This would be great as far as queue's are concerned.
It's widely accepted on the server I'm on that BG doesn't start til the afternoon so no one really joins the que until then. - shoover, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Because the only people who play online games are losers who don't interact in the 'real world'. Right.
Why don't you take your head out of your ass before posting on a tech forum? - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't care about ranks and I don't care about loot. I have been playing since Christmas 2005 and still don't have a level 60. But let me tell you... Alterac Valley is AWESOME. I've been playing since level 51 on my mage (currently 56). My gear blows (I'm wearing that level 40 or whatever robe that tailors make) but that doesn't make the slightest difference. I don't rank at the top but I decently enough.
I don't really care, though, because the most important factor is FUN. Alterac Valley is A LOT of fun, regardless of level, gear, etc.
As for linking the servers, this SOUNDS cool but is it really? The main reason why we're all stuck in the queue is because there are far more alliance in the queue than horde. There aren't any magical servers with excess horde, so I'm not sure this will make any difference. - mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I still don't understand this game. What am I doing, and why am I doing it? So you want me to collect 10 Fangs for you and bring them back? Why? To level up? Why? To get stuff? I just don't get the point of leveling up is all, and that seems to be the point of the whole game.
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Like it or not, both WoW and Apple are tech related subjects, so you can't even use the "not tech related!" stuff. WoW is one of the biggest MMO's out there, it's gonna be dugg.
And no, for the record, I'm not an Apple or a WoW fanboy, don't own either, but I'm sick of teh bitchin. - shoover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The guild I'm in is farming Nef and close to finishing AQ40, and we have a few people who are ranked 12 . Not quite sure how they find the time, but raiding certainly doesn't stop you from being successful in BG. The REAL advantage here should be reduced queue times, and this is both a benefit to current BG hardcore players as well as casual. I've been in queue for AV lots for 2 hours before I finally gave up, using a cross-server instance idea should reduce the wait times dramatically, and make BG's more accessible to *everyone*.
This is good news for anyone who plays WoW, hope they don't screw it up! :D - Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They did have gambeling at the start, but the ESRB was worried since they have a "E" rating.
Ask for making only adults be able to play... Most kiddies use thier' parents creditcards anyways, no way to verify. - Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You get your daily dose of WoW, some random space article, a couple Apple articles and at least one on each of the next gen consoles comin out. =)
- Nugolot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4until you realize that in order to reach rank 14 you'll need to be playing upwards of 20 hours a day in order to get enough honor points to compete with the other top ranked players.
- sokz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I finally slapped some god damn sense into myself and got this game out of my life..
Straight up deleted the characters (in tier 2 mind you) and canceled account.
Best move I've made in a long, long time. - vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5FYI - If you click on the gaming steve link in the article it goes into a little mroe detail.
- aguita, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Actually, one of the largest implications is that people will be gaining a lot more honor! Currently, if you are a hardcore pvper, you will have killed most oponents if not all by the end of a day more than 5 times. (For those that don't know, after 5 kills, the honor you get from the same target is only 1). With cross-server realms, the chances of finding new blood would be extremely high. New blood = more honor.
How this impacts the current honor grind, I do not know. Will it make it harder or easier? I guess it depends on your server. - guru8376, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Then maybe this game isn't for you. Not all games will be liked by everyone. Stop whinning and go play something else.
- vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i actually just started back playing after a couple months off. I dont have super super gear and I jumped right into Battlegrounds last week. put in a couple hours every other day. It works out and i am gaining ranks.
I think Battlegrounds are geared towards casual players to an extent. Definitely more than the raid content is. But in both cases a hardcore player will always get those crazy items that a casual would have to be super lucky to get. - hdenton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It wasn't a server run casino it was a bunch of chinese farmers making money by doing /roll 100
- krayzie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4from rank 13 to rank 14 it takes 3-4 weeks of hardcore 15+ hour days and #1 standing. yup casual gaming at its finest. wow is geared towards the hardcore and always will be
- dloko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My guild contains some of the rank 14 people of my realm -- they do not play such ridiculous hours. They simply have one cohersive team that does set amount of Arathi Basin runs each day, following strict tactics that guarantee victory with full bonus honor. Most of them have jobs, go to school or even have girlfriends.
So -- you do not need to play 15 hours a day to get rank 14, you simply need to be invited into the best AB farm team on your realm. - vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Trav3133, you're diggin stories about Flintstones and Duke Nukem Forever. Who is really the loser here?
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Hi my name is Zorgeinot. I am a level 60 cow mage. I've spent $50 dollars for WoW retail and well over $360 dollars for play over the past two years. Good thing there is an even bigger looser out there who will pay 500 for my account.
- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well it would be a sperate Blade server rack(, most likely). And since its only BGs, to might have even less users than just one signle realm.
Plus, all the new WoW server hardware is running much better, and most people are reporting 100ms drops in avaerage ping time. - shoover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When I quit EQ (4 years ago) I was about to do the same thing, then a friend offered to sell my chars for me. I figured WTH, and handed over my acct info to him - after all I was just going to delete them.
We met up again two weeks later and he handed me $2000. I was stunned. - vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hey ravi, AKA Coding, just looking at your digg history, you like ipod nano's, xbox 360, and far cry. so what makes you all high and mighty? Again if you dont want to see content on Digg about WoW, dont touch the story. You bring attention to it even if you decide to post a pointless negative post.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah good queue, but now, there is no personal touch. You will rarely see the Horde person you creamed to glot in his face again. BUT if you BG in the same realm, you can rematch or gloat again ang again
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Spirestone has more Horde than Alliance.
And to the guy who says he has a cow mage, Tauren can't be mages. ;)
I'm a giant loser. - shadedream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed on this one. The guild I'm in has recently started MC (still havent downed rag due to a lack of enough heavily geared people to take him on). There are a few in my guild who have reached ranks 12-13 without epic'd out armor sets (maybe 2-3 pieces). The HIGHEST ranks are difficult, but I was getting to rank 11 on my main pvping maybe 6 hours total in a WEEK with a good group on vent.
Of course the highest rank is going to be hardcore players, but Blizzard has done a good job of making decent ranks accessible to more casual players.
I think the effects of this change will be both good and bad.
Good in that queue times will go down (or so we hope), but bad because you will no longer have the realm reputation in PVP.
Bad because you wont regularly recognize and fight against some of the same opponents, which I think makes BG more fun. Unless they balance the honor right, it could destroy casual gamers abilities to get to higher pvp ranks.
Personally I think it would be better to tie together a few similar realms' BGs (in such a way to balance out the faction ratio as well). - streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@MattiK
Actually, my server (Emerald Dream) always seems to have Horde outnumbering Alliance in BGs. I was recently in a 30s session of Arathi that actually had twice as many Horde players as Alliance! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not strictly true
Put in enough time and you will eventually get the best end-game gear from PVE
Put in the same amount of time and there's no guarantee of the best gear from PVP - daedal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Might be interesting, but not really something that a casual player like me can look forward to. Blizzard really seems to have all their new content geared towards level 60s and leave mid-range players like me in the cold. Granted, there is already loads of stuff to do and they're trying to keep their level 60 clients going but I'd like some epic armor that doesn't require 7 hours of straight dungeon roaming with a 60 man group. Oh well, seems like an interesting add-on nonetheless.
- rtoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is really cool, but man... I'm really looking forward to a change in mass pvp. Battlegrounds is always the same old $hit, back and forth, die, rez, takeover graveyards, burn a stronghold, etc.... I'm thinking a variant of what DAoC had back in the day. A mass pvp field, building battering rams, taking over castles not just till the end of the battle, but holding them for weeks/ months at a time, stop the instance reset crap. I'm talking HUUUUUGE pvp zone..
I know im a dreamer...
Rtoo - dave_colorado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't play WOW, but my roommate does. I think they need a place where you can play Texas-Hold 'Em with your money.
how cool would that be? over 18 or 21 only tho...no kids. - awesinine, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2what kind of gambling?
- goettel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Although the original article is just contemplating a Battle.net like world ranking for PvP, I'm sure this has to be on Blizz's mind. I've done my share of hardcore PvE, but recently toned it down to more casual play, for which BGs are nice, especially AB; on a sidenote, I have to say that I'm enjoying five man PUGs a lot more than downing Ony, collecting the heaps of crap needed for ZG epics and getting the DKP to get full Earthfury (I'm a cow shaman).
It almost frightens me to think about the level of addiction faced by hardcore PvP'ers when they can move on from high warlord to ruling the world...
I'd love to see some world event related to this new level of PvP; maybe a Darkmoon like traveling group of vendors and quest givers, which travels to the realm which won the realm-spanning BG the last time. Maybe it should be a once-per-week BG? - Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have some questions that someone might be able to answer...
Are these going to be 16 new servers?
Or are they linking only 16 select PvP realms together?
Or are they linking ALL of the servers in groups of 16?
Is this for PvP realms only?
And another thing... Is worldofwarcraft.com down for you guys, too? - boff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I think what he is saying is that both the kettle and the pot are black in this particular instance.
Posting on dig (interacting with an online, non-real world community) is very similar to playing WoW (interacting with an online, non-real world community) in the ways you have derided WoW players for. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4BG overalls are fun
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does sound fun. I think Vanguard, Saga of Heros will have areas like this.
I hope they open their beta up soon. I can't wait. - jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1additionally, for proper ranking it needs to be factionless too. No horde vs alliance. It needs to be team 1 vs team 2, with characters from either faction making up the teams. Either way, this is good news, but they also needs to allow players to jump right in and play BG, without having to grind their chars up to lvl60 to get the most of it... i'm sure blizzard are thinking of these things, and if they're not in there in the first patch they'll make it in at a later date.
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How silly is that? They don't keep the kids from drinking the in-game virtual ale. They even glorify it during celebrations. What would be wrong with letting them play fake poker?
- MontyZooma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vanguards not going to be ready for a while. Believe me... ;)
- live2die, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can jump in at any time after lvl 10.
WSG 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+
AB 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+
AV 50+
I find that at low lvls BG's are more fun. I have been playing BG's since lvl 10 on all my toons. - vincenzo7, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Hahaha boy you weren't kidding. it was never rdy. haha
- dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1/shudders
- vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1by commenting on a story about WoW will only bring more people to read it, especially if they are using digg spy. "hey, look at this digg that everyone is commenting on."
if you don't want Wow on the front page, you prolly shouldnt touch it. - blacklilyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bla bla bla battlegrounds shmattlegrounds
bring on Burning Crusade - T00LB0X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm a casual gamer and the BGs can still be fun! just go play twink! Find or create a twink guild and get the "epic" gear for that level...(10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 etc) the best part about it though is the REAL pvp is so much funner...you just have to wonder how the guy behind the horde toon feels at lvl 29-30ish being taken down by a 19 twink paladin.
Here is a pvp video i made...nothing too special ...and yes i DOWN the potions, but they are so cheap at that lvl...why not...the graveyard is sometimes very far away. At this lvl and with this gear if i have to use my heals i am probably already dead...this is about 2 weeks of PVP footage...(not Battlegrounds) with a lvl 19 twink paladin... (the file could be 100meg smaller but i was having problems compressing audio..sorry bout that)
http://files.filefront.com/19promoXviDzip/;4627339;;/fileinfo.html
if you have problems playing the vid, go google Video Lan Player...this is the best player because it basically eliminates the need to download video codecs.
anyway point is that with just a small amount of gold for enchants and a few twink guildies to run you thru the low level instances for gear...you can still be a casual player and have lots of fun. killing in the BG or otherwise... - Matrixsjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1TerryLoincloth ***** you, and leave Kevin Rose alone, that's Kevin Roze btw you dumbass.
