- Renton, on 10/10/2007, -9/+69Lol... women driving.
- beauc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10absolutely, I know at least as many women as men, if not more, that love Wii.
- xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I wish there was a Hello Kitty Wii. Or ways to customize it so I can have a pretty color case.
- lokiworks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I know it has been almost a year since the Wii came out, but I still can't tell when someone is being serious, or they are telling a dick joke
- jessicass, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I don't understand the whole stereotype thing with women not liking to play games. Though I wouldn't play something lame like the cold case files or whatever other crap they mentioned in the article (though I do prefer PC games to console). I can't speak for the women in the 35-45 range but as for my generation (I am 27) we all grew up playing NES and SNES and ***** just like guys. We were all there when new consoles came out and some of us enjoyed it just as much. So for comments like "I suppose the women-folk are getting their first serious taste of fanboyism" due to the Wii.. are you serious? Get over yourselves, you don't have a corner on some obscure market just because you like to play video games.
- deathweaver108, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Just because you and companies like Sony want to keep demographic the way "they" see them doesn't mean that there isn't money to be made off of these real people's very real interest in games.
Here is a quiz for you:
What do you call someone that plays games?
If you answered: "What kinda games" you are wrong - BocoDragon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I disagree, simply because adult males with girlfriends have to consult them on every major purchase.... The NES generation has grown up and is getting laid. I had this discussion with my girl when I had a choice between getting a PSP and a Wii. Basically the choice came down to this... PSP = "Me" (selfish), Wii = "Us" (togetherness, love, I get laid). This stuff definitely has an effect on the market. I bought the Wii.
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7The only reason my friend got his Wii is because of his sister.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Making fun of women drivers isn't taboo. Making fun of the retarded is, calling a black person a ***** is, hitting women is.
- lokiworks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Thrilling! Tell me more ;)
- xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I know what you mean. It wasn't until the Internet that I realized I wasn't the only girl who read comic books, played video games, and liked robots more than little ponies. Guys used to stare at me so uncomfortably when I walked into Wizards or any comic book/trading card store.
- sonick, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10Best. first comment. ever.
- NCg8r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I can't even play Bioshock because of my wife's unhealthy addiction to Viva Pinata. I thought it would be a nice way to distract her from her obsession with Sims2, but instead she became even MORE enamored with VP. She does like Bioshock, but she won't play it unless I'm there because she gets scared... She also digs WWii FPS games, but has been disappointed since her first experience can hardly be topped (storming the beaches of Normandy in Medal of Honor).
/sucks when the best video card is in your WIFE'S computer! - deathweaver108, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Try taking a business course when you get to highschool
- SandorClegane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This is BS. Every 3 weeks we get another article telling us that the future of gaming is 27 year old women or some such. And every year game companies spend millions coming up with games that women never play (Bioshock, et al). Take a look at Sony and Microsoft's budgets and you'll see where *they* think the future of gaming is.
- ronaldinho, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5yeah I can attest to it. my roommate, a girl, loves to play these casual games when she's bored or in-between homework.
I don't know about this supposed bullish market. The Wii definitely cashed in onto this (and they will keep their more-casual gamers), but once Sony and Microsoft are able to copy Nintendo's controller technology, I see the conventional games back on the rise. I think there WILL still be a market for casual games, but casual gamers aren't exactly addicts like hardcore gamers either. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4are doing?
- lokiworks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I am pretty sure this demographic would not refer to themselves as gamers.
But... I did find your analogy clever and funny - dadioflex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"You might think the face of one of the hottest areas in gaming right now is a young male in his 20s who owns the latest supercharged gaming system from Microsoft or Sony - or both."
You might think that if you haven't been watching the gaming press for the last 5 years. If you're surprised about it you're either simple or one of those 20-something guys who's been waggling his joystick for the last half decade. - zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4The Wii and DS both cater primarily to casual gamers, and they are both thoroughly dominating the market. Not "massive money" you say?
- xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4As a girl, I loooove casual games. My favorite ones are Bust a Move, Brain Age (mostly for sudoku), and shooters like Raiden, R-Type, etc.
- DarthTurducken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That's Tsetse fly :)

- Signed, the Spelling and Fly Nerd - feebie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm sorry? Women never play games like Bioshock?
It's time you get out of your parent's dark basement and learn a little about current times. - ajc30, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't worry about casual gaming. It's cyclical, consider the Atari boom and bust.
- simplynix, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4You husband only says that to get sex.
- deathweaver108, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Just because you don't know any women means it isn't true?
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2#1) The wii is much cheaper than the PS3 and Xbox 360.
#2) It is often bought as a gift for children. - zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3How about the fact that the two "consoles" (Wii and DS) that cater primarily to casual gamers are outselling everything else combined?
- cliffdogg, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8Come on man...there are just as many ***** Asian drivers.
Don't blame it all on the women. - whitewash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Absolutely. Yeah Bejewelled sells for less than Halo 3, but most game programmers could make a Bejewelled clone in a weekend with a $0 budget. It doesn't take many $10 sales to make that worthwhile.
- Abestar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I think we just discovered the true reason for Wii's good sales. That being - nerds will do anything for poon. - ....And its the cheapest.....
- feebie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I'm going to have to disagree on you with this.
I've been playing videogames since I was old enough to hold a controller back when the original Atari system was new, and buying videogames since I was old enough to save up my allowance. So did my sister, my three best girlfriends growing up, as well as many of the girls I went to school with. It might've been less often for a girl to buy and play games a while ago, but it definitely wasn't unheard of. It's becoming more popular among girls nowadays to play games, but I have a feeling a bulk of the "surge of female videogame players" has to do simply with people realizing finally that girls can also be gamers. - Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3By uncomfortably do you mean they were drooling all over themselves?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Pre-emptive insult to whoever coins the word "fangirl": You suck.
- feebie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1if you weren't so angry, then maybe you wouldn't be getting dugg down for every comment you make.
- feebie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Would you like some fries with your grudge?
- vartson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i did make a logical point. most people refer to anyone over the age of 18 as a man/woman. well I'm 18 so that would make me a woman. there's also the well known interchangeable terms for men/women. Guy - Man. Girl - Woman. would you like to go be an ***** somewhere else?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Don't forget "Pointless Head Games 3".
- rpgguy1o1, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6i stood in line at the wii launch with my girlfriend, and we each got one
- MonoDede, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2hahah, they practice in video games to then use these refined skills in real life.
- Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2After you are done with your tirade, maybe you should apologize by thanking women for inventing agriculture, eh?
- jbass, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0My wife plays yahoo games all night. I know how many of you feel.
- xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Well, I would hope not since I was pre-teen/teen around that time. Comic book stores around me either went out of business or turned into a "Magic: The Gathering ... with some comic books" kind of store. :(
- RaptorNv25, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2You'll find many contradictions in comments of women.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Better put "OLDER women".
- vartson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2If you think that, you obviously know nothing about women.
They're only talking about older women in this article. Teenage girls are playing the same games you are. I'm a teenage girl, I would know. And my 13 year old sister plays Hitman, Halo, God of War, etc. So no women won't, as you put it, "dumb down" the industry. - lokiworks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I am glad I am not the only one who thought to put MC's helmet on my cat!
- ronaldinho, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2no wonder their opportunities for orgasm slips away so quickly
- RobbieF, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I modded you up, because you're of course right. I was in a hurry and just wanted to be funny. *I* thought it was funny, anyway. To hell with the rest of em :)
- yohnstoppable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I thought women only played the Sims.
