- simX, on 10/20/2007, -0/+5Give me a break. StarCraft rocked!
- mooseboy, on 10/20/2007, -2/+7I'll stick to paying my $15/mo. It's still cheaper than having a life.
- adam.skinner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer. These servers have like 150 people on them. You'd be better off playing NWN.
- vileS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I disagree with this, in every possible ethic. Hard to believe people are so hell bent about avoiding a $15 a monthly payment.
Considering it requires an alternative client, as well, this just reeks of Trojans/spy ware/worms. Good luck folks.
May Blizzard be Merciful. - braden.beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WoW private servers are unstable, uneventful, and lacking in about 99% of the quests from the real game.
Paying the $15 a month is well worth it IMO. - SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3paying a monthly fee is a rip off.
- NekoFever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LMAO...most of those are at 90%+ capacity with less than 150 people online. I'll keep paying my £8.99/month (a whole hour's work, even at my ***** job!) to get a decent community and pay for the extra content and support that's constantly being added.
- spinninnzen, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2Two more words after Guild Wars
really sucks.
I have both and I play more of the 15.00 a month WoW then of the free GW. When I got GW I had high hopes of playing that game instead of WoW. Then I played it. I could never stomach having to sit my a$$ in a town to finally find a party and do something. Because anything outside of a town is a freakin instance WTH!?! Not being able to cross over a path b/c its not mapped as a crossable area (you know how retarded it is that you cant jump of the edge of a two foot drop road to the other side but have to run alllllll the way to one end to the curve to come allllll the way back to the exact same spot two feet below your original position?!? But hey if thats your thing have at it but you cant even compare the content and level of depth that WoW to GW. WoW never claimed to be a true D&D game. So I dont know what the hell atomi talking about. Want to play a true D&D game pick up a pencil and paper. Thats the only "true" D&D game. BTW WotC has WoW for p'n'p FYI. The way I see it is like this. If you dont like the game dont play it. If you dont want to pay $15 month. Dont play it. It could be worse you could play FFXI and have to fork over and extra dollar everytime you want to make a new character. If you hate the game so much then why the hell are you reading the digg posts about it. Now onto the actual digg (sorry) I guess its okay for people who really cant afford the monthly fee. I would never use it for a couple of reasons. One if I was new and never played WoW and wanted to try it. Get the trial version. If you cant figure it out in 14 days if you like it or not save yourself the trouble. Move on. (Play Guid Wars ^_^) B/C these are private severs who knows when "Bob" decides that hes tired of the game and pulls his sever. The character I invested "X" hours for is gone. No thank you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Winter's roar was THE best EQ emulated server out there, so much so that REAL EQ was losing business to them. some one ratted them out and they were shut down, after two great years of service. They decided to take all this talent and make their own MMO, Dawntide. Google it.
- CodeCobalt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You sir are a moron. Read before you open your mouth and educate yourself. Its legit.
- S4yAnything, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1unless ur 14 and dont have a job and your parents wont let you get one and wont pay for a video game to play online
- PantlessMaytr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I played WoW for 3 months. To me, WoW is not worth paying for, despite that it is definitely less than an hour work for me. My $15 is worth more to me being elsewhere. That is why I have stopped (although I was sad about loosing my char, so I didn't kill the subscription right away).
Now someone has given me the opportunity to explore pieces of WoW that I did not have the chance to explore before, and they ask nothing in return.
I agree, it's buggy, underpopulated and the ethics behind it are questionable (to be light-hearted about it). I'm not looking for a replacement - just for a way to kill an hour every week or so without looking at my bank statement at the end of the month and think to myself "What a waste." - Cabal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1honestly all the free servers i played on were really buggy. but you get what you pay for.
- HoGiHung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"The monthly fee is used primarily for profit, and to keep the servers up, which if anyone has ever played WoW knows that the servers are always down."
Last time I checked the purpose of a business, ie. Blizzard, is to turn a profit. $15 a month for virutally unlimited entertainment is worth it in my book. And I think you are confused. The WoW servers are not always down.
"Blizzard has about 5 or 6 of those "reps", who are currently on lunch break. Perpetually."
Care to share your source? Do you have a copy of their payroll statements? Profit & Loss?
I just so enjoy people who complain about things without first thinking and/or providing real support for their claims.
WoW is a great game. Well worth the $15 a month. Movies run about $8 at the theatre, so you get maybe 4 hours of entertainment from them for the same price. Assuming you don't buy food/drink there.
One other poster put it well - if you can't afford the $15, you shouldn't be playing. And stop you crying. - CreamyPoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What will they shut down? The wowstatus site or the private servers? I'm sure blizz already knows about it for a while now.
- mikewalterz, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Uhhh no...
- mikewalterz, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Not to mention, they do know but they can't really do anything about it.
- S4yAnything, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1WOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!
- spacefrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i WOULD laught at the people who sink 6 months into their character, only to have their 'private server' shut down, and their character be worth about as much as the crap they just flushed down the toilet. i say i WOULD laugh, but ill be too busy playing on a legit server.
- jenmarsh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still prefer to use the Blizzard servers, especially if these aren't running on the actual server software. Secondly, WoW needs many players to make it a good gaming experience, the small amounts the free servers provide wouldn't really make the game that fun.
It's a great concept for those who want it, but I'll stick to the monthly fee for servers that (now) work pretty nicely. - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm playing on a private server right now to be honest, because I didn't know if I really wanted to play WoW and I can't afford to pay the initial cost for something I might not want, so I'm testing the waters with a private server before making my decision.
Of course, if I decide to play on, it will be on the official servers, because private servers ARE buggy as hell, there's no denying. - Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hah, good luck playing by yourselves. The largest servers have a mere 100-200 people in the entire world. Not to mention the lag and low NPC counts.
- breathingdust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Part of the reason i have no problems paying that £9 a month is that every month Blizzard add new content the game.
And yeah, I feel that the days of my life ive lost in that game are a bit more protected on a legit server. - jonrosing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1/agree
with spinninnzen. I have rolled several toons in wow including a 60 mage. I have also spent a good amount of time playing guildwars with friends. Guildwars is static and boring. I never wanted to roll a second character because the gameplay ends up being pretty much the same process. In WoW there are so many places to go and explore, and each race has a completely different starting area, so if you roll other toons it's not boring! - dogbyte_13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The reason MMORPGs charge money is because of the following:
Network Bandwidth costs money
Upgrading and repairing servers costs money
Customer service reps cost money
Paying Game Devs to comeup with new levels, adventures and several other things costs money!!
I personally dont mind paying the FEE because i know what it is going towards, PLUS WHO KNOWS WHAT KINDA CRAPWARE IS INSTALLED USING THESES "Private servers" INSTALL!!! - DeVryGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$15 is not that much money. Hell if you are playing one of these games, chances are you'll SAVE money because all your gaming time is going into this and not into random new games that you pay $50 and finish in 6 hours.
- pnmerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wish the would do something like Anarchy on-line did and pay for their servers with advertisements funcom is even giving the client for free
you download it with BT so they save themselves the expense of bandwidth
and i bet that ends are meeting with the cash they are making with companies advertising with them www.anarchy-online.com/free/ad_campaigns/freecampaign just register a new acc and see if you like it - CreamyPoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To vileS, you don't need an alternative client filled with trojans or whatever to play on private servers. You can use the legit one you bought or even the beta client patched to the right version.
http://www.fileplanet.com/147141/140000/fileinfo/World-of-Warcraft-Open-Beta-Client-%5BBeta-Keys-Gone%5D
IMO, there's nothing wrong to playing on private servers. I think it's even good advertisement for blizz. I've seen people who have played on these just to try it out and then decided to pay monthly for it. I see it as a good alternative to anyone who don't really have the money or time to waste paying the monthly fee. Yes the emulators used are really buggy and a lot of features are missing, but they're getting better all the time. - CodeCobalt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Umm, why would they be shutdown? Its perfectly legit. Once you buy the game you can do whatever you've already bought the game. The only reason you have to pay $15/month normally is to pay for the server fees. If your not on the wow servers, and you bought the game. Blizzard wont give a damn.
- DeezYum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dellomans WoW is pretty good i play o nthere backup server at about 300 latency Dellos actual server runs about 800 latency witch is still alot better than most servers and if ur looking 4 a cracked WoW with no cd key get www.bitcomet.com then go 2 www.bitsoup.org and search for WoW after u register 4 free and select WoW dvd and start DLing Niewue map.torrent this DL will take all night and ignore it if it says 99.99.99 hours left enjoi^^
- bizboy9789, on 10/20/2007, -1/+1Hi im 16 and i use this website to find private wow servers. good site.

aot
digital realms
some russian servers
only max playyers is 200
server crashes sometimes
lots of bugs
i love it though been playin for long time
all u do is edit the realm file to server adress create count for server, only use internet ex.
really good. love it. - .Steven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't forget the spyware! :) lol!
- Animal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet all those private server are all perfectly honest and would never do anything like access your WoW CD-Key.
- wintersveck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well if any one hasn't noticed that the fact stands that WoW has the exact same areas and races as warcraft 3
kinda made me mad that I was hoping for something new and got hosed by blizzard but it is a great game and I cant wait to get back on my game in WoW land the only differance is you want to play for free then warcraft 3 should be your option warcraft3 has like the original you can build stuff and make your own army instead of trying to find a bunch of A holes to do instances with but if your going to play WoW on real servers check out the guild called fists of light thats the best guild to go to if your in need of any help oh their on the rppvp servers - HUinstinkt, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0This comment is for the following previous commentators...
HoGiHung:
"WoW is a great game. Well worth the $15 a month. Movies run about $8 at the theater, so you get maybe 4 hours of entertainment from them for the same price. Assuming you don't buy food/drink there."
I guess you got it all figured out hung. Yes, you've done your math and even addressed some variables. You can rest assured in the knowledge that your opinion is based on a rigorous system of comparing stuff. Stuff like prices, and the amount of entertainment i get from movies.(4 hours? wtf movie are u watching?) maybe that's why you seem to be feeling particularly elitist. You should go into politics, you like to argue, and your a duschebag.
ateoto: I think there are better things to spend my money on.
spacefrog:"i WOULD laugh, but ill be too busy playing on a legit server."
I doubt those people who play on private servers are as dedicated as those that play on legit ones, and if they are, chances are they're willing to accept the consequences. But one day when im older and no longer interested in WoW i wont regret having paid way more than i should have for something that doesn't actually benefit me. Then we will see who is laughing. It wont be you though, cause you'll probably be to busy playing on a legit server.
VileS: Thanks for the warning bro, but hellbent is a strong word. i'll break it down. WoW is mad fun when your blazed, and you cant download marijuana.
FaNtAsMa: I'll take my chances. See, when you've been a 'freeloader' as long as i have, you get pretty good at it. Besides, i don't think its worth Blizzards time to track down and rape the 200 ***** that are playing on a private, bug-ridden, content-lacking server. I appreciate the concern, but i'll be fine.
ksgant: "Paying a monthly fee is NOTHING. If you don't want to pay it, no one is putting a gun to your heads. Go and play on the bug filled, non-supported free servers that will be there only as long as they're not shut down. Some of you people are pretty cheap. 15 bucks a month? That's it? To hear you crying a moaning I thought it was 60 bucks a month or something.Give me a break...get a ***** job you slackers! Mwhahahahaha!"
Your right man, no ones got a gun to my head. However reading your comment makes me feel as though there is a bullet in my brain. You probably got the same feeling from all the crying and moaning that's coming from those distraught souls who aren't spending their money. I, like you, pretend to pitty them to hide the fact that im super jealous. when will they realize that avoiding the monthly fee is a sin! By the grace of god we(you) are charged with the task of waving our ***** about as we take advantage of anonymous internet browsing.
If you don't think paying 15$ a month is a bit too pricey Then you either don't pay for it yourself, or you really get your goddamn moneys worth. In which case i think you should stop SLACKING and take a short break so you can put your dick away. - PogoTheMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Get a life and when you grow up and and have to pay for your own on line games then you can have your say.....nuff said"
Amen brotha amen...
Im gona check it out! 15 bucks is fluckin crazy!!! i played the free 10 days and its fun, but in no way worth the 15 bucks. - goitalone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0................
WoW is barely an ok game...i played the free month and was pretty much sick of it.
Guild Wars is completely gay.
And to be perfectly honest, I am pretty much disgusted with MMO games PERIOD!
I miss the good old days when it was FUN to play RPG's when they were RPG's (most of you kids would have no clue) where ya buy the game play it and dont have to worry about sitting around wasting peoples time with ***** POSTS like this one about a game that isnt worth posting ***** about in the first place! IMO (and I am right btw) we all need more games like FF (pre FF XI that is) which actually had great and epic stories behind them...were more fun than any of these ***** MMO games they have out today. If a game has little to no story, to me it just plain sucks ass and fills my stomach with butterfly bordom! ...I am just waiting for FF XIII to come out so I can hopefully have another enjoyable gaming experience once again...it's been far too long!!
P.S. no game is worth ANY monthly subscription whether you can afford it er not...least not yet anyways, and I doubt there ever will be...15 bucks is alot of money for most people children...mommy and daddy pay the bills (car insurance, rent/mortgage, yer pathetic lil' ***** pigs clothes, food, gas to drive you little ***** around to places you shouldn't even be going in the first place THEY bust their asses for that 15 bucks they probably can't even afford to spend but do anyways because they are most likely happy they have found something to shut yer whiny lil faces up with!! THEY pay not YOU!
So grow the, and SHUT the F up you pathetic lil' diaper *****, and get better taste in games as well!
TY

Ima start up WoW after years of EQ if i join your server you wanna help me become a twinked power leved toon, please - pastheshalaylay, on 02/07/2009, -0/+0well you guys see... yes its laggy, but im playin on a server with over 6 thousand ppl on it, online that is, it has 50 thousand registered, and im at level 254, and have pretty much whatever i want, so for you ppl "sinking" 6 months into a blizz account character ***** you! and start doing your research... blizz even said they are not worried about the private servers, know what that means? not only are you arrogant and ignorant to half the ***** you just said, wow doesnt gift a damn! so sorry sanchez, no law suits flying anywhere except the one you just spoke of right back down your throat! and if your really smart, you would be able to use these accounts to get a ton of gold which dumbasses like you who have no life pay actually money for when i hack my little white ass off and sell it to you on a blizz server.... cant grasp that one, but you guys (and good crystal) bought my 350 z bitches!!!!
- HUinstinkt, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0I registered just so i could post that, i guess ksgant isnt the biggest loser on this page anymore. Good for him. Hes movin on up. Hes goin places. I wish my dick was as big as his appears to be.
- homeslice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny thing is this is very old and at the same time very illegal. Just ask www.gotwow.net.
- Moses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only thing about this that tempts me is the fact that there are servers where the xp gain and the drop rates are insanly high.
- bchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stop crying if you dont want to pay play guild wars.
- dmitry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad it's illegal
- Leonffs, on 11/20/2009, -0/+0It depends, if the private server are using Blizzard's server technology (the actual server daemons that blizzard uses, or daemons compiled from copyrighted source code), then Blizzard can sue them.
If the private servers are emulators (which most are), then blizzard can't do anything about it except ban peoples Blizzard WoW accounts that are also playing private servers (if they have one). - karishbhr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there any amazing server or not?
- lollipopmanz, on 01/15/2009, -0/+0go to this link to get free wow key, authentication, prepaid visa, and much more 100% legal no joke
http://gifts.beepremium4free.com/index.php?f=16724 - Leonffs, on 11/20/2009, -0/+0i WOULD laught at the people who sink 6 months into their character, only to have their 'private server' shut down, and their character be worth about as much as the crap they just flushed down the toilet. i say i WOULD laugh, but ill be too busy playing on a legit server.
Because that's so much less embarassing than sinking years of play into your official wow characters only to have the game shut down years later when no one plays it anymore. I think it would be good for you WoW addicts if Blizzard just deleted all your characters right now. Then your withdrawal would make you realise how serious your problems are. - stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha! This is Ileagal!
