That's the average system. I don't think that should have any problem with some low-resultion raindrops or snowflakes. - stimpack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I pity the fools who asked for weather effects. If youve played EQ or another game with weather, rain is frickeing annoying.
Rain sucks ass in real life, hey lets emulate it so you can be pissed on in-game too, great :/
Hopefully it can be toggled off - JHawk24821, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1JK: World of Warcraft is not terribly demanding on today's systems.
What, pray tell, is today's system? Perhaps working at Blizzard gets you not only a cool line on your resume but a http://www.alienware.com/alx_pages/main_alx.aspx sitting at your desk. - DirtyWorker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nope, Blizzard has stated on several occasions that they will go from 1.9 to 1.10 then 1.11 etc.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow.... now only if the native Linux client would come out.
- IceSabre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am looking forward to the new effects and actually really like all the new additions to the game since launch.
My theory on the queues is that they are artificially created by Blizzard to "encourage" people to move to other servers without transferring characters.
Start over again at level 1 = more time spent paying monthly fees trying to get to 60 AGAIN.
Also have you noticed that when a new server opens up the queues for it are really high... but yet there is low population on that server. It is more like they are pacing how many people can enter over time, not how many can be in. - Gauthic, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Mark me as Troll if you will, WoW'ers
One has to bet past the 150+ queue to actually play the game one is paying for to play :)
These effects are worthless--in my opinion--if a bad percentage Blizzard's player base is waiting to play.
I signed on to a 'light load' realm in mid-December, and I've never had (during prime time hours) less than a 30 minute wait to log on to a non-PVP server. Needless to say I cancelled my account, and kept trying to play to see if the load got better after the holiday. The last day I had the same issue (Jan 20th).
It was _very_ disappointing considering my previously fantastic experiences with Blizzard games. - JHawk24821, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lumiras, I was just making a joke. I run on AMD 64 3500+, eVGA 7800 GT, Asus A8N-SLI Premium, 1 GB of Corsair DDR400 dual channel, and a Raptor 74 GB holding just windows and WoW (swap file is located on another drive).
Ironforge works pretty good for me too. :) - FlyingAvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@mogebier -
You could always play on a server that is not in your timezone. Though I agree. I think it would have been cool to have the two continents' time zones be opposite. (Day on one, night on the other.) - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jhawk, I have a pretty nice system (p4 3.0 Ghz, GeForce 6800, 1GB RAM), and I can pass into Ironforge without a whole lot of problems. I really think that it's the RAM that counts, as most people are still running on 512 MB. Here's a tip, it's like $80 to double your memory, and it will show
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tenement, your experience seems kinda out of the ordinary. I'm on one of the oldest servers in the US (Hyjal), and even at the super peak times, it only takes me maybe 15 minutes to get in, and I never have to wait in a queue. That 15 minutes is my character list loading, which is a bug in the software i believe
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very nice.. now if only they could fix that darn queue problems on NEW servers/realms we would all be set! (it's awful on Akama right now)
can't wait to see this patch! - Jaesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""I think you mean 2.0(or 2.1)..""
Version 1 - Revision 10 - CreepingDeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tenement,
I'm on Hyjal, and I think I've seen a queue twice in the year I've played. I would also like to say that I think your experiance is not the norm. Not that I care if you don't play. Less compition for spawns/etc :)
I hear there are no wait times for EQ1 && EQ2 ;) - AdamFitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ahawks
If you had a 10 day trial why did it matter about your character? Why didn't you start on a less populated server? - CreepingDeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01.10? rofl..
we are at 1.9.2
I think you mean 2.0(or 2.1)
Since noone has explained WHY you are wrong yet, here is what your missing.
1.92 and 1.9.2
See the differance? If they were calling the current version 1.92 then you would be right, but since its 1.9.2 the next version is indeed 1.10. (or 1.9.3 hehe) - tapo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Er, why screw WoW? It was your own damn fault that you picked a server that was marked as "Full" rather than going for something "Low", "Medium" or "New". As a matter of fact, the server selector wouldn't let you on a full one unless you manually selected it.
Your place in line is an actual place in line. The realm has a cap on how many people can be logged in at once. If someone disconnects, someone else in line takes their place, and the time estimate is just that, an estimate. Not at all perfect.
Granted, I play on a full realm (Windrunner) because it's been up since WoW launched (and that's as long as I've been a subscriber). And it is annoying sometimes to sit in an (on average) 8 minute queue on a Friday night. But I'm not that pissed. The game is fantastic and they'll probably transfer some users to new realms to alleviate the problem.
I'm sorry you got a bad first impression, but be patient, and give the game another shot. Running an online game with 5 million players on servers you own is not an easy task, and given those circumstances, Blizzard has actually done a damn good job. - suprememilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And the server wait made no sense:
1:25 wait, 65th place in line
1:40 wait, 30th place in line
2:00 wait, 73rd place in line.
.. It continued to jump up and down randomly, never letting me on.
Trial accounts have no priority in the Queue, if you pay, you get in faster. - Prez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also if you have a tiral ccount you get bumped up in line as paying customers want in. The paying customers get to cut in line of those who are on trial.
- testify, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think he realizes that trial accounts don't have priority when accessing the servers. It's possible that he might've never gotten on the server due to him getting pushed to the back of the line on a regular basis.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I hope the weather effects doesn't lower our FPS a lot."
You mean like it would using EQ2's insane engine? WoW is relatively simple in comparison, but the overall performance is smoother (on mine anyway) - JHawk24821, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eternalny1 - thanks for the link, I had forgot about Steam's data mining project. One thing to consider is that the list is comprised only of people that download and install steam. This is a group made up of almost exclusively of games - most of which are male, most of which play on their own PCs. WoW is a gender and genre bending game - more people (male and female) that are not "hard core" gamers are playing WoW than any other game I can think of. The result - a lot of old "living room" PCs are running WoW.
Of course all of this is just opinion, so chill out flamers. - mogebier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish they would make the World Clock move a little faster to offset it from a RL day. I never get to play when it's light out.
- jonashwing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahawks
yeah i agree with adam. you didn't have that much invested into that character...you probably even rolled a human paladin. - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I must comment that blizzard does blatently rip off warhammer. I don't care though. Both are fun. Blizzard is lucky the guys that create warhammer are nice enough not to sue their pants off.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ehh, I really wish they'd add more content for lower level characters in these patches, rather than focusing solely on the 60s. There seems to be this slump in the game around lvl 30 where things start to lose some interest.
Also, WoW Patch 2.0 will more than likely be the release of Burning Crusade, which looks awesome (Blood Elves, Diablo II-style socketed weapons.......mmm) - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1in other news, if you hang your crack pipe on a string from the ceiling, you won't break it when you pass out from smoking too much crack.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0killerdeath, they are adding the option to disable the weather effects in the same patch. Cry more OK? Good lord. You whine about the game yet you're still paying? Quit already!
- rmdl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love how people over-exaggerate issues to make the game appear to "not work".
"I had a 10 day trial and only got to play twice because the wait was so long," haha... sure. Anyone who plays the game can tell you that alone doesn't make sense, as there is no "wait" minus the "server full" queue.
And while we're on that, 150+ in line takes 3-5 minutes tops to get past. People act as if that's an eternity, yet they don't seem to mind wasting equal minutes of their life being an armchair critic on digg! - Slybri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, 1up sucks when it comes to inteviews with PR reps. He could have asked stuff like:
What are some of the changes to Priests Talents?
How OFTEN will it rain or snow?
Is there thunder and lightning? Magic storms? Rain of fire?
But instead he whines about getting ganked on PvP servers and how his computer can't handle walking into Ironforge. Man, if your comp can't handle walking into the main city, you sure as hell should get a better computer. And if your computer sucks that bad, you sure as hell shouldn't be a video games journalist.
The only thing inerestng was the videos, and even they were like..."yup...it's rainin"
Although I must say... Can't wait to run through the snow and rain in 3d with my shutter glasses. That's gonna rock.
One more thing... Advertisement for Item Duping in WoW info on top the page. Sad. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope the weather effects doesn't lower our FPS a lot.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fukkin awesome !
- FrostyTheDMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ greenrider... I totally agree. I put off buying this game until this last Friday for the very reason you stated. I am in my senior year and didn't want WarCrack f'n it up. Now i'm in my final semester and only have 1 class! wooohooo! Let the death of whatever "real" social life I had begin in earnest!
- JeffS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, when I started my character every server was marked Low. I wish they'd just beef up the login servers and save the eye candy for when everything else is fixed. I guess the cool thing about the weather effects will be the reduced frame rate which people will interpret as lag. Maybe more will quit so I can play.
- Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is easier to play WoW from school than it is to play at home when your girlfriend doesn't like the game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God I wish WoW would work on my computer it keeps dying when it updates.
- databyss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I play on Straghelm and there hasn't been a wait in a long time.
Of course the server has horrid, server-wide lag at random intervals. - Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've played a char to level 60 on Dragonblight and another to 60 on Skywall and I've _never_ seen the queue screen ever. The people complaining about it probably had trial accounts and/or played on busy servers. Pick a low population server, and pick your server when it's at the prime time in your time zone, and you'll probably never have any problems logging in. Unfortunately there's nothing to do in the game once you hit 60 unless you like doing big dungeon raids over and over again, which I don't.
- Big_E103, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet Weather in WoW what could be better
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jhawk24821:
dude that system is just flat out overpriced and that is all... you can easily build a system FAR faster with quality components for about $2500 tops. It would blow the overpriced uber leet alienware bs out of the water. - etx313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I never have to wait to get on my server.
- muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hi, my name is Serra and I'm a total tool for SOE. Jesus Christ, could you be a more blatant shill.
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The interview kinda sucks, but I digg because it asks a few things I am interested in. I am very interested in how they changed the priest. Mages are very trickly to balance. If its too good it will end up like a hunter...and that would be bad, very bad.
I am very mad at blizzard though. We PAY for this service and yet we have to wait insanely long times to log on. The "get on a new server excuse" is bullcrap anyway. I DID. I changed from Burning Blade to Mugthol and now my wait time is even longer....because everyone changed thinking it would help. There should of been a controlled change where only some people got randomly selected to switch servers.
Blizzard has created an incredible game but they must tackle these lag and log on issues first. There should be no reason to ping at 500ms. - hyperation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and i was about to quit WoW.... lol
...been playing it for over a year, great game, but with my new classes I don't have the time to invest into it. and those damn new materials are coming out so fast, my guild can't handle it. We didn't even finish BWL yet. - LunchB0x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"WOW is a dumbed down MMO for the masses. Blizzard rips off the rich world of Games Workshop Warhammer universe, calls it Warcraft and claims it as their own. Why hasn't Games Workshop sued the pants off them yet?"
Have you ever even played a warcraft game? The lore blizzard came up with is steeped in history and is pretty ***** airtight. Theres enough material to keep wow going for a long time. There are novels, pen and paper RPG's, comic books and and one point an animated TV show was in the works (plus the series of PC games that date back to the doom days). All this was before world of warcraft was even a concept on someones desk at Blizzard. Warcraft and Warhmmer both have "war" in the name.. that's about it. Anything else is a coincidence. Warhammer is closer to SciFi than fantasy anyway. Seriously you should ask someone before you stay ridiculous ***** like that in public..
I'm also really tired of people saying wow is "just a dumbed down mmo". People want games, g a m e s s s s not virtual jobs *cough*swg*cough*... But yer right eh? wow is for suckers.. all 4 million of us... you jackass.
"For the masses" Oh right like its not an mmo unless only about 100 people can stand to even play it right? It has to be archaic and incredibly complicated, so when you master it and others ask questions you can lord it over them to heighten yer otherwise miserably low sense of self worth... - Killerdeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I play on kilrogg and have only seen the queue twice since launch. Having said that, our server sucks, it crashes a lot, even more recently and the instance servers are laggy as hell, especially now since on Tuesdays EVERYONES instances are reset, so all guilds charge into BWL, MC.
The first thing I am going to do is disable the weather effects, though I bet blizzard won't put that option in until patch 3.3 . . . - binarypower, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why don't they buy the old SWG pre CU from SOE? I think that would be so cool...
NGE makes me sad :( - gol706, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Anyone else see an ad for this site on the 1up site with the article:
http://www.wow-dupe.com/index.html
Interesting looking scam. - greenrider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Removing my account and not playing this game anymore was one of the top 5 best things I've ever done. I had an amazingly fun time playing it, but it pretty much destroyed the winter semester of my senior year at college. Holy god is this game addicting. Got up to level 58 before I quit.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I tried WoW, since it came as a free trial with all of the computer stuff I got to build my computer from Newegg. I played for a couple of days, and then decided that I would try EQ2, just for fun. And now I'm a level 20 assassain with EQ2, I liked it muuuuuch better. :)
