- rahilpatel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+69Your dad reports to me, I know because he's the one with the issues thinking he is 'in-charge' of blu-ray. Sorry to burst your bubble but your dad is very delusional....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56Let's do the calculations shall we? The earth's circumference is appr. 40,000km, light travels at appr. 300,000km/s. Which means light can travel around the world about 7.5 times in 1 second.
It's obvious, your dad really does work for Sony. - Jestermask, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53My dad works for the Space Marines. He told me that Hell is a place that has demons.
Oh, and that he gets free lemonade whenever he asks the men in white coats.
Oh! Oh! And my brother is in charge of all the nuclear weapons in the world! And we're gonna blow the moon up 'cause it makes funny faces at us! - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50They had me at Sony Blows :)
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+47YOU POSEUR! Does your dad work for Sony and Lucasfilms, too?

http://digg.com/apple/Steve_Jobs_5_tips_to_a_GREAT_presentation - Chromain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35The point is that nearly everything Sony announced was disappointing or already announced weeks ago by a competitor. Also: Sony *did* rip off the motion sensing feature. Or atleast, they decided to add it within the last 2 weeks. The Warhawk devs admitted this.
Please - We can all be Fan boys. It's pretty much our job on the internet. But please use reasonable arguments. None of your examples are direct competitors of the same generation - Evolution is one thing, seeing something cool and going "ME TOO!!!" is another. - flashmatt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36I agree, and I seriously wonder how Sony peeps can walk around with a straight face? I mean, everyone knows all their ideas were ripped off of other companies...the only "original" thing on that ps3 is the Blu-Ray and even THAT is beginning to lose its flair...

tyrants' dad is one busy sob. - blackhand0114, on 10/12/2007, -5/+34Good article It's a good mid-E3 analysis of what's going on.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35your dad goes to college
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29I lost interest in Sony after the rootkit affair. That was a big, big mistake. I will actually buy a Microsoft Xbox 360 now instead of waiting for this PS3. Microsoft are evil as well, but the rootkit thing really pissed me off.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28For their cutting edge nunchaku attachment, of course.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I think Nintendo has been banging nails into Sony's coffin all week. They made fishing look like fun!!! Sony couldn't make blowjobs look like fun.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26//"How did Sony Rip others off? So when the N64 introduced the Rumble Pack, you didn't expect another
company to add vibration to it?"
Fair enough, vibration was inevitable, but you've got to consider the following: Nintendo 64 has an analogue stick - Sony promptly follows suit. N64 has rumble pack - Sony follows. Nintendo does motion sensing - Sony Follows. Sony has a history of BLATANTLY copying everything thier competitors do and then acting like they invented the wheel.
//"Didn't Nintendo Rip OFF Atari by using cartridges and controllers with joy sticks for their system?"
Cartridges were the standard media of the time and Nintendo didnt use joysticks, they used the d-pad (which became the standard until nintendo replaced it with the analogue stick and everyone again followed)
//"When Sega Introduced their 6 Button Controller, didn't every other company RIP them Off too?"
Who copied the 6 button controller? And is adding 2 buttons to the face of the controller really an innovation?
//"When the PlayStation introduced Memory Cards and dual analog sticks, didn't just about every other company RIP them off?"
Playstation did not invent Memory Cards, not to mention that they came as a solution to not being able to store data on the game media itself, NOT an innovation. I'll give them the dual analogue sticks as they were first to do that.
//"When Sony introduced the Walkman, didn't we human RIP them off by being men able to Walk?"
WTF?
//"When Sega went online with Xband and SegaNet, didn't Microsoft "copy/steal/sham" with Xbox Live?"
Xband was not a Sega invention, it was also available on the SNES, and by the time the xbox came out there was nothing new or innovative about online gaming.
"//When Sony went strictly with optical Discs, didn't Nintendo 'steal' using a disc with their GameCube...and oh no...not in the Wii too!!"
Once again, standard media of the time.
//"When I went to the bathroom and took a piss..didn't Nintendo steal my piss sound with the "Wii" ?"
you're a dumbass - bobmcsmith, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Oh yeah! Well my dad could beat up all of your dads!
- puzzlesource, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Sony seriously fails to innovate...it just looks like they pulled a little from xbox, a little from the wii and stuck it into the ps2. I mean their online feature set is almost a carbon-copy of xbox live, and all of a sudden they have a supposedly 6 way motion control after their only possible original innovation, the banana phone...i mean...the banana controller flopped. As far as blu-ray goes...big whoop, if a $500 console can't even display movies at 1080p then something's seriously wrong. Anyone remember the so called "pixar like" realtime graphics that Sony said at some E3 that the ps2 was supposed to deliver...the last generation of ps2 games are rolling out and I have yet to see anything close. That being said I will probably have to fork out $600. Damn you exclusive franchises! Everything should get ported to the PC :P
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Blu-ray is based upon CDs and DVDs, it just has more space. So yes, technically its copied as well from someone elses ideas.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18This is something that has bothered me about Sony for a while. They aren't 100% focussed on video games yet they purport to put out a game console. Now they have this console that is really a trojan horse for blu-ray marketshare and some ***** iTunes competition. As a gamer, I'm insulted by that.
- pidge, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25I kinda agree with Nintendo's overall philosphy but still, I think if Sony can come up with good games, they have the best system. Keep this in mind:
Microsoft Xbox 360 Platinum - $399
Microsoft Wireless Network Adapter - $99
Microsoft 1 year Gold Live membership - $69.99
So once you add those features, you are getting close to Sony PS3 $600 price tag which comes with wireless network controller built in and free online membership. Actually, if you are a Microsoft Xbox Live member for more than one year, the Sony PS3 $600 comes out to be cheaper. And we haven't mentioned the built in Blu-Ray player, or the larger hard drive or the memory card reader or the HDMI port that Sony's $600 PS3 comes with. So you basically either pay now or later with Microsoft. Sony is just charging you for the extras upfront.
As for Nintendo, while I do like their controller for certain games, sometimes I feel if I am going to go through such work, I might as well play the real thing and not waste my time playing a video game. After all, for me, I like to play video games to relax, not as work out. I will be buying a PS3. If Wii is $200 or lower, I will pick that up as well as a second system. - matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21better than apple stories all over :)
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15how about "imagineering"?
- doctornakul, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Well it said that Final Fantasy was a PS exclusive, which it"s not anymore (the revolution will have it). And who plats Gran Tourismo nowadays anyway?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19I have a 360. I got one in December and it has been really kind to me (not blowing up, lol) I have never had any problems with my 360. Only awesome gaming with kickass HD glory! Glory I tell you! Even though it IS macrosuck, you gotta admit, they are heading in the right direction with the 360
- Fitzavig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15here's a simple example. let's say you're having a science fair, you have this really cool idea whereas everyone else is just doing that lame volcano experiment. You're really proud of it and know it will succeed. Then some loser learns of your idea and implements it into their project at the last minute to steal your thunder. Wouldn't that offend you in the least?
To put it simply, it's like Sony is trying to take credit for what Nintendo is doing. I can understand if they implement it afterwards, but it's a low blow to try and be sneaky like this. I also think people are starting to get sick of it since it apparently didn't go over too well with people at that press conference. - CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11For all those who haven't figured it out, tyrants is posting in almost every front page story about how his dad works for yada yada yada... for the simple pride of getting an assload of negative diggs as quickly as possible.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15You gotta look at it at the normal customer's point of view. $400 seems a lot less then $600. MOST people who walk into a store and just buy a system arent looking at what everything will cost them. They look at individual prices. So the $400 is much cheaper then the $600. Anyways, you dont need the 360 wireless and gold xbox live. So you can save your self some money if you need to. On the other hand, with the ps3, you are screwed either way paying the $600. There is no change of getting it cheaper.
- dugee81, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14"innovative", ive read that word so many times since the motion sensing discussion. note @ everyone: try to be innovative and think of a new word :p
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Your father smelt of elderberries.
- pacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7here in digg?
this place is full of nintendo fanboys since way before - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Maybe they realized that would have been another stolen idea and felt bad. You know, from the Nintendo DS :)
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Alright we get the idea that the PS3 is ***** and a waste of 600 dollars and alot of PS3 fanboys are really pissed off right now because their prcious nirvana of a console is being bashed. Watch as the fanboys mod all the hate comments down.
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6To charge. The Razr phone uses the same connector.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6mostly you're right, but ps3 seems to be more and more a system beyond many poeple's reach (i have better things to do with 600 dollars, 200 i might give up) and meanwhile nintendo keeps making things which though they're being overpushed, are still good on their own merit.
the only thing nintendo's done wrong so far is the name, and that'll be forgotten about eventually. they have fleshed out an already adequate design, gotten serious developer feedback thanks to cheap and plentiful dev kits, made some interesting new ideas about control, and are pushing their older content along side their new stuff.
meanwhile sony's chosen a disc which may flounder as badly as many of their other formats have, chose a processor they can't get produced well enough, made a system who's dev kits are expensive as hell, and has done nothing innovative with all this new muscle.
and for those who want to snob about wii not being HD, if you can see the difference, and have the money to burn, go ahead, but i never heard many people screaming "this image is not crisp enough" about their TV 5 years ago - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12"When Sony went strictly with optical Discs, didn't Nintendo 'steal' using a disc with their GameCube"
Sony went only optical discs because that was the latest technology at the time and they probly saw that cartidges would be fading out. That would be a smart move on Sonys part I would have to admin
"When Sega went online with Xband and SegaNet, didn't Microsoft "copy/steal/sham" with Xbox Live?"
Unfortunately, Dreamcast died, and nobody had online play anymore. Internet was only the next step.
And now that last comment is where I get flamed. You probably ask well isnt motion detection the next step? It most likely is, BUT sony has had all of this time and they had a "finished" controller (boomerang) and they said this was it. Everybody hated it and said it was ugly as hell. I believe that Sony has ran out of time to create a controller, so they grabbed the old controller and stuck in a motion detection system, 4 leds, bluetooth, and a usb port and called it innovative. If they would have their own controller design and not rip if off in the first place from that one other company that sued sony because of the controller design. Nintendo re-invented the controller with their new design. Now that IS innovative and will prove a challenge to get the gaming public, but Nintendo believes they can do it and so do many other people.
Sony has always ripped off other companies in the past. They never are innovative yet they always claim they are. - walterd93, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6everyone copies off of everyone.....except nintendo.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7haha nicely done indead
- SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sony does seem to make a blowjob seem a lot like an ass-raping.
- beforeIforget, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Yeah, I'm leaning in that direction too. I wanted to wait until E3 to see what Sony would show with the PS3, but it all looks kinda ho-hum ... it's nice, but nothing worth waiting for and no way worth $600 bucks. Plus, I don't think they'll have it ready this year anyway. I wish that Final Fantasy was available for x360, but you can't have them all. I'm leaning towards the x360 now cause it just looks like the best console value out now and in the foreseeable future for the next few years. As much as I hate to pat MS on the back for ANYTHING, I have to hand it to them with the 360 ... they made a compelling product.
/btw, i'm not considering a Wii ... I want HD gaming. - Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6lets see, if i had an xbox 360 I would have to plug it in to the TV. now to get internet I'd have to get a wireless adapter to get a wifi connection, through my router, which is plugged into my cable modem, which is next to my cable box, which is plugged in to the tv.
OR, i could use a random LAN cable and PLUG the 360 into the router and that would cost me...nothing. (or if you had to buy a cable...$5) - Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Wow dude. At the time of this post you got -82 diggs. Let me point out just exactly where in the post you failed at. "My dad works at Sony." You see, at this point about 99.9% of readers will roll their eyes and want to stab you in the eye. Nobody reading your post will ever beleive in anything you say from here on out. Just why did you start your post off like that? Did you really think that you would get some authority by stating where your dad works at? I am sorry, but instead this post made you look like an immature 10 year old looking for attention.
I hope you learn from this error of yours and that you never attempt something like this again, and now I shall quote Willy Wonka by saying...
YOU LOSE! GOOD DAY SIR! - Willy Wonka - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I had to add one more thing, I'll ***** my pants if Sony doesnt put a speaker in thier controller. Just wait, its not far off.
Maybe they'll try to be subtle about it and add two speakers just so they can feed us some more ***** about how they're driving innovation. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Amazing; I've never seen a comment get so undugg at 2:43am. That just proves how sad it was to write something like that.
- rastan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You can only do 1080p over HDMI on the PS3. This is a technical restriction, not a policy restriction, Component video does not have the bandwidth to support 1080p except over *very* short distances and requiring special hardware in the TV.
Of course, you could do 1080p over DVI or VGA as well, but neither is included on either the PS3 or XBox360. With the PS3 "retard pack" not including an HDMI port, component will be your only option for HD unless they release some kind of HDMI adapter like the PS2/XBOX had for component, and as such, you won't be able to get a 1080p signal out of your PS3 without HDMI. - Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I went to 3 E3's in a row, 2001-2003. In my experience it was always the same every year. Nintendo wow'd everyone by showing off their first party titles that people are guaranteed to love. Nintendo are experts at presenting themselves to the public.
Microsoft winds up in the middle. They throw enough money and celebrities at their booth to wow people. Sony, well always tends to be the most boring booth IMO. Very corporate and kind of plain. Sony just doesn't know how to put on a show.
So by the end of E3 everybody says "OMG Nintendo won the show! Playstation2 sucks LOL". Lord knows I said the same thing. But in the end guess what happens. The exact opposite when it comes to sales. - Mischa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Tyrants could very well be a comedian working on some new material, and seeing what kind of effect his stuff would have on a selected demographic.
I just can't imagine an eight year old talking about his dad everywhere he goes. Seems like it was conjured up to get a rise. Funny if it's meant to be, sad if it's a real kid with a real dad. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9After all the ***** Sony has pulled in the last few years, anyone who gives them money is a fool.
Not. One. Dime. - enovakrss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Sony is really good at pretending to be innovative by taking things that other companies have done"
hm, Sony? Yeah, yeah, whatever. But if I had to say a company which is really good at pretending to be innovative by taking things that other companies have done, I would say another company. They are offering a game console, too. - paiguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"You can jump on evil mushrooms..."
Did anyone ever figure out of they used the Hungarian word for mushroom (goomba) on purpose?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goomba - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree it's probably for charging. My cordless mouse for my laptop also has one for charging.
