- ssn697, on 04/21/2008, -6/+36Nah, they will all put down their controllers to go see Iron Man...
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 04/21/2008, -1/+7Iron Man aside, I'm sure that we have the capability to do more than one thing during the entire summer. Or does Variety really think of us that way?
- ssn697, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1Looking at the game release schedule, there will be PLENTY of time to do other stuff. What a boring summer for games.
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Yeah the article didn't take into account how long it takes to finish a game. Sure, GTA4 will be 100+ hours, but I guaratee you the hardcore will have it finished and mastered within a week. That leaves the rest of the summer.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 04/21/2008, -1/+7Iron Man aside, I'm sure that we have the capability to do more than one thing during the entire summer. Or does Variety really think of us that way?
- sk11, on 04/21/2008, -1/+38There's nothing wrong with healthy competition, trust me, hollywood needs it.
- craighoxton, on 04/21/2008, -3/+1Video games are to Hollywood what P2P is to the Music Industry
- dbr_onix, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Sadly not. "The industry" at least admits video-games can be used to make money (spin-offs!), where as the music industry is still in the burning-P2P-at-the-stake-for-witchery stage..
- Tryptomine, on 04/21/2008, -1/+0Not even like they have a lot of it, I believe even that article means there's very few big name game releases a year.
Though I almost choked on my drink when I saw that they had the gall to put that recycled pile of sewage called "Madden NFL" on the same level as GTAIV.
- craighoxton, on 04/21/2008, -3/+1Video games are to Hollywood what P2P is to the Music Industry
- Lososaurus, on 04/21/2008, -1/+84If Hollywood would stop making ***** movies, maybe I'd put down my awesome games and go to the theater.
- Hobbes24, on 04/21/2008, -7/+2epic win.
- Eslamicolt3, on 04/21/2008, -3/+3I'm really kind of tired of hearing that, as occasionally true as it may be. I've experienced no drought of quality movies. If you don't believe me, check out Sarah Marshall. ***** hilarious.
- robeph, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2I so came here to say this. Stop making ***** movies... (I mean seriously look at the ***** set up movies of the last 365 days or so, how many do you remember..... hmm I don't remember any from the theater, and I do pause my torrents to go watch new movies (I still enjoy that old feelings of going out to the movies, overpriced popcorn and sodas et al) yet I can't think of any that i saw that really stuck with me, where are the (albeit geek/scientifically failing) matrix's, the Pirates of the Carib (please stop making sequels trying to milk fans and ruining their memories of a great initial movie...albeit the sequels weren't as bad as some have been) , what about some mediocre yet STILL entertaining movies? I mean we had a great run with hannibal, the sequels weren't half bad, not legendary movie goer stuff, but still fun watch, even the new remake of charlie and the chocolate factory, a decent try, not the best stab they couldv'e taken , but come on, the vast majority recently have all been pure *****. ya know, I know you wanna combat piracy, but making movies so bad no one WANTS to download them, doesn't help you at your final goal, making money (please no more teen movies, they're sequels whether you wanna admit or not, Scary movie, I loved it, it was stupid as hell, but I LAUGHED, that movie I can't even be bothered to remember the ***** title to, that 300 comedy(although not comedic, just stupid) whatever it was... waste of money, period, I laughed twice and that was at the guy with the Aqua - Barbie Girl ring tone who was sitting behind me in the theater and ignored the intro reel that said to silence his mobile... Sorry bout the TLDR; post but seriously... It's sad. They bitch and whine about movie costs, they bitch and whine cos those who WANT to make good movies can't get paid cos they wouldn't concede to the writer's guild, it's demands (very reasonable demands mind you, not some of the crazy ***** unions often pull) and they constantly pump out movies that are as enjoyable to sit through as a 2 hour bout with explosive diarrhea after a drunken night + Del Taco.... Come on... remember your roots hollywood, you've had a ton of GOOD *****, let's get back to that, k?
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Wow, you win most incoherent rant of the day. Hands down.
- mustache, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Please, you people make me laugh. Don't act like there aren't ***** video games. Get off your video games vs movies horse.
- Lososaurus, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1The problem is, I can spend $10 to see a movie once then $20-30 to get the DVD, that's $30-40 right there for a 1.5-2 hour experience. On the other hand I can spend $60(or less if you want to include handhelds) and play a 10-20 hour experience all the up to a a 40 hour or more experience and be able to have that experience whenever I want, whereas with a movie I have to pay repeatedly to see it in the theater and then pay again for the ability to watch it at home.
- Lososaurus, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Not to mention branching stories, multiplayer/online play...
- darthbob, on 04/21/2008, -2/+26Hmm...can I fit 2 hours of Iron Man into 4 years of GTA IV? Ja.
- cl2yp71c, on 04/21/2008, -9/+3People who play videogames have social lives, they can go see a movie whenever.
- bigmacur, on 04/21/2008, -1/+40$15 = fun for approx 2 hours.....
$60 = fun for approx a lifetime....
hey, its possible....- über, on 04/21/2008, -4/+13$15?!? You're out of your goddamned mind. I never pay more than $6. For $15 the theatre had better be at least providing you with a cheap hooker for the duration of the film.
- bigmacur, on 04/21/2008, -2/+7i blame Los Angeles....for charging $15 and not getting me the hooker....
- antdude, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1$9 and 11.50 at AMC theaters (cheap theaters). :(
- afwjam, on 04/21/2008, -1/+21Some of us go to the movies with a girl. two tickets=$15, no hooker required.
- CDHarrisUSF, on 04/21/2008, -0/+22Some of us go to the movies with our hookers.
- Chris4, on 04/21/2008, -1/+15Some of us just skip the movies and go straight back to their place.
- UNDERSTAR, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9Your still paying a ticket, might as well call her a hooker.
- antdude, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4You're
- Risingashes, on 04/21/2008, -0/+9An $11 hooker would cause you more problems than they're worth.
- Wilsomatic, on 04/21/2008, -0/+9Well if you see a Lindsay Lohan movie you're guaranteed the cheap hooker...
- Dumbledorito, on 04/21/2008, -5/+2I prefer to go to movies in better neighborhoods.
- D4CH, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1In Denmark we pay around 10-15 dollars too.. I wish it was cheaper
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1You obviously don't live in a major market, where movie theaters charge $12-15 for a night showing.
- bigmacur, on 04/21/2008, -2/+7i blame Los Angeles....for charging $15 and not getting me the hooker....
- über, on 04/21/2008, -4/+13$15?!? You're out of your goddamned mind. I never pay more than $6. For $15 the theatre had better be at least providing you with a cheap hooker for the duration of the film.
- DubiousDrewski, on 04/21/2008, -1/+8At first, that was the most nonsensical headline I'd ever read. But now I know what the hell's going on. And I agree.
- Twenty, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I was terribly confused as well. "Will GTA 4 win over hollywood?" is a better title. Less *****.
- Books, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1I thought it said Wii, not will. I was so ***** confused, like a kid at a 4/20 march.
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I thought it had something to do with Bully too...
- Twenty, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I was terribly confused as well. "Will GTA 4 win over hollywood?" is a better title. Less *****.
- WilliamTM, on 05/13/2008, -1/+10Hollywood makes a fair amount of decent movies, but there's loads of ***** too...
- craighoxton, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4Nah, the big studios don't want to take chances so rely on re-makes and formulaic blockbusters. If you're a screenwriter starting out in the industry, I'd say get a job in the video games industry
- Seann7656, on 04/21/2008, -10/+0What a retarded article. How do you link those two? You could say this about any game.
- MRintheKeys, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Any game???? Are you ***** serious?
- egghead329, on 04/21/2008, -0/+12Yes. I'm not leaving the house once I get my hands on the game, simple as that.
- bigmacur, on 04/21/2008, -4/+0is this in the "ever" category??
- DeadlyCouncil, on 04/21/2008, -1/+11Ok... if it were "Prom night" they were talking about, then yes, they should worry.
But its freaking IRON MAN, then Dark Knight, and an Incredible Hulk that won't suck! What the Hell?- calibration, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Iron Man looks meh.
- über, on 04/21/2008, -1/+10No way, have you seen the films that are coming out this summer? Wall-E, Ironman, Indiana Jones and ***** BATMAN. The lineup is amazing and nothing is going to keep me from seeing all of those on opening weekend.
- EwMo, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5In a word, Yes.
(I have high expectations. I had better not be disappointed) - Gregsaw, on 04/21/2008, -0/+16They're just looking for scapegoats. There's a reason people aren't going to see movies as often as they used to. It's because there isn't much worth seeing. The good movies will do good no matter what. Iron Man will be fine. It'll make money. Those greedy pricks won't be hurt.
And the bull sh*t about Halo 3 taking away from Heartbreak Kid? I didn't even hear about that movie until after it came out on dvd when my girlfriend wanted to watch it. And it wasn't any good. Same for most television.- Wilsomatic, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1People also hardly go to see movies at the theatres because they pay so much money for a ticket, about the same amount for some disgusting (usually burnt or just old) popcorn and watered down drinks whilst you could just find the movie online, pop up some microwave popcorn and relax at home. It's illegal of course, but convenient.
- dbr_onix, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3No, cinemas are the same as they have always been. What has changed is most peoples screens at home are no longer 13" fuzzy CRTs that you have to hit every 10 minutes to fix the sound.
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Hey Heartbreak Kid was a good movie...I talked ***** on it like crazy, until I actually saw it and laughed my ass off.
- Wilsomatic, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1People also hardly go to see movies at the theatres because they pay so much money for a ticket, about the same amount for some disgusting (usually burnt or just old) popcorn and watered down drinks whilst you could just find the movie online, pop up some microwave popcorn and relax at home. - kinerry, on 04/21/2008, -3/+1Video games have been the superior medium since the playstation 1 days with games like final fantasy and resident evil that tell epic an moving stories that are also interactive and different everytime you enjoy them.
- Vaemor, on 04/21/2008, -8/+3The first thing i'm gonna do when I first have GTA IV is start running like a douche, yes I know, but still I first want to maximize my stamina for better-prepared escapes. then i'll do similar with my bike and motorcycle ability skills so
i don't easily fall/crash off them. then it's frigging on!
I know it's not the best way to spend your first hours on gta iv but, it's still going to be pretty fun (and explore the area) etc.I suggest the same with you guys if you can contain your enthusiasm :) better to be prepared for the future awesomeness so it's even more fun.- dysfunction, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1GTA IV isn't going to have strength and stamina and such, which is honestly a plus. No more having to go to the gym.
- cosmicr, on 04/21/2008, -4/+4what a stupid article. not everyone plays games. even young males.
- Vaemor, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5You know you can filter out gaming articles in your profile/settings/customize topics options..
- Wicaeed, on 04/21/2008, -2/+13GTA IV went to the movies once, but it only ended up beating it with a bat to get it's money back
- strictnein, on 04/21/2008, -1/+9The first thing I'm going to do in GTA IV is see if there's a movie theater. If there is, I'm going to kill everyone in it.
- Schreck1, on 04/21/2008, -1/+12First of all, if ANYBODY (even these people in Hollywood) expect me to leave my house after I buy this game...they should just die because it isn't happening.
GTA IV is going to be effin epic. This game is so ***** detailed it isn't even funny. This game will blow San Andreas out of the water- Tyrghast, on 04/21/2008, -9/+2anything can be better than the gta3 series. I loved 1 and 2 but 3 didn't hit it with me. Too much emphasis on hookers and senseless violence in 3, not enough on the story.
- allisonaxe, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6and the first two had storylines? you sure you were playing the same GTA 1 and 2 that I was?
or are you numbering the individual games in the gta3 series (i.e. 3=1, vice city=2, san andreas=3?) if that's the case, you're still wrong.- Tyrghast, on 04/21/2008, -7/+1The first two GTA games had rich storylines and characters. It seems once the shift was made to full 3d, they lost sight what truly matters and just made a sandbox-ish shooter.
- luckyguy2000, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5seems like you had a different copy of gta 3 and gta1/gta2 than me Oo
- MRintheKeys, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Actually if I remember correctly, didn't GTA, GTA 2 have that top down view where you could only see as far as a city block???
- MRintheKeys, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0It's because San Andreas went ghetto....
- allisonaxe, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6and the first two had storylines? you sure you were playing the same GTA 1 and 2 that I was?

- extant59, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5im sure it'll keep me home just like table tennis did.
- KhanneaNL, on 04/21/2008, -1/+37Maybe i'd go see Iron Man if it were shown in a cinema INSIDE GTA4
- loeki, on 04/21/2008, -0/+10Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
- schizogony, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1I haven't gone to the theaters to see a movie in over two years and I'm definitely going to see Iron Man on May 2nd... after having a nice 3 1/2 day session of GTAIV.
- doitintheroad, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3So you have to play a video game for at least 4 hours for it to be worth your money?
- RogueJediX, on 04/21/2008, -0/+9The only thing bullying the movies are movies themselves. Stop jacking up prices, stop making people go through 20 minutes of advertising and trailers and most importantly, make good movies.
- Dumbledorito, on 04/21/2008, -3/+2***** runs through both the video game and movie industries, sometimes fusing into a Voltron of such crappiness it goes beyond fecal and out the other side (this is what scientists call the Uwe Boll effect).
In both movies and games, the key element is entertainment; if you fail to do that, you fail at your endeavor, and you wind up on Zero Punctuation or with a mile-long talkback on AICN.- positron, on 04/21/2008, -2/+2Buried for associating Voltron with crappiness.
- kurupttek, on 04/21/2008, -2/+4Im so excited!! 8 more days
- isaactwito, on 04/21/2008, -1/+3Look, movie industry, your crappy titles are what keep us away from theaters, not the video games (although they are more interesting usually).
- jcolt84, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1This also depends on how many ps2 consoles were sold when gta3 came out to now with the ps3 and gta4. Anyone know the approximate totals for how many consoles sold?
- BulletsforRingo, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6Did anyone else notice that the author of this article knows jack-squat about "vidgames" ?
- Epik, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3PC or bust
- WorldRTomi, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1I still fail to understand why is the summer the big period for movie launches in the USA ? I watch more movies, go more in Clubs and play more videogames in the coldness of winter. In the summer period, I enjoy sunshine and outdoor activites while my video game consoles take dust. I only go seeing one or two openair movies.
- avihappy, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6Initially, it was that in the summer, it would get really hot. Movie theaters usually had air conditioning, which was very attractive. Studios thus got in the habit of releasing good movies around that time. Also, don't discount the fact that in the summer, kids and teens are free to do what they want. These factors make summer the "Christmas" of the movie industry.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3And Christmas is the other time that big movies are released...
- AaronStatic, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Well yeah, but GTA4 is coming out so...
- avihappy, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6Initially, it was that in the summer, it would get really hot. Movie theaters usually had air conditioning, which was very attractive. - AlienAbductee, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1maybe if the cinema shows game footage of gta?
- AaronStatic, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1That's like comparing billiards to test cricket. You can easily fit in a game of pool every tea break.
- str1fe, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5Hint: it's not video games that keep us from spending inordinate amounts of money at the movie theater.
- papipablo, on 04/21/2008, -2/+1The people don't come because you don't play the ***** that they like. Play the ***** that they like and the people will come. Simple as that.
- pcflynn89, on 04/21/2008, -3/+0since when is GTA IV the only blockbuster game coming out this summer? the author completely fails to take mgs 4 into account - I know that many in the playstation world are looking forward to this than GTA IV. Both will be amazing games that have multiplayer that make their hours played shoot through the roof. It is a good time to be a gamer.
- carrielynn01, on 04/21/2008, -1/+0Crappy movies are keeping me away from the movies, just as crappy games sometimes keep me away from gaming. I don't know how many times I've actually yearned to go see a movie, checked the listings, and only found crap like "Good luck chuck." Make a good movie, and I'll go see it.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1$10 tickets to go see a crappy movie plus 1000% markup on popcorn and soda is why I haven't been in a theater in years.
- guillo98, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Retarded.
- 1timeuser, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1People blamed Halo 3 for bad ticket sales... of course all the movies on that month sucked balls...
- stappawho, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1"The biz could use some megahits to ignite folks to start going to the multiplex"
This is the problem. I don't need megahits, I need a good movie. That and an usher that comes around regularly to make sure people shut the ***** up.- tEhKewleSt, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Are you like 80 years old or something? Since when have there been active ushers telling people to shut up?
- stappawho, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Don't know, just saying there needs to be.
- tEhKewleSt, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Are you like 80 years old or something? Since when have there been active ushers telling people to shut up?
- tEhKewleSt, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1I'm sure my girlfriend will force me put down the controller and take her to a movie...CURSES!
- Hosalabad, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1In case you missed it in the article. Iron Man comes out 3 days after GTA IV.
That is a very poorly written article. - McShr3dd3r, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Maybe I'll just get the PS3 laptop and bring it to the Iron Man
- RolltheStampede, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1They should air the movie in game in liberty city that way everyone wins.
- warplayer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Man, this summer is going to be great, I feel like I'm 14 again! Grand Theft Auto, Iron Man, Batman, The Hulk....pile it on!
- coleburns, on 04/24/2008, -0/+0any reviews?
