- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Thanks, man. I'm a fan of TWiT myself, but it never occurred to me to ask Leo if I could come on and add my voice to the mix. If I get a chance to see him because of my R3 stuff, maybe I'll get the courage to ask him if I can sit in for a show.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Wil, you ought to get involved with TWiT! Leo's been having trouble with the regulars, and you'd be great on that show.
- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I've gotten used to it by now, but for months I would see "Wii" and think it was "Wil." I'd always be puzzled, because I didn't think there was that much news about me going around, and though I am wireless and can swing around like nunc-hucks, it's been about twenty years since anyone waited in a long line for me.
- m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I'm surprised there are negative comments posted here. First of all, it doesn't matter what someone thinks of a person's acting, or what they've done prior or since. Wil Wheaton lived the dream by being a part of a fantasy world we (geeks of all walks of life) all would have loved to be in. Now that he's older, he's apparently the same "person" (notice I said person, not actor), and does a good job writing articles about things he clearly has a passion about. We should all be so lucky to be able to do that as well and I would consider it something to aspire to.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Hey dude, I found this great site called Google, it helps you find stuff!
http://www.google.com/search?hs=nKd&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=wil+wheaton++&btnG=Search - wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Yeah, that's surprising to me, too, because I thought this story was something a lot of Diggers could relate to (that's why I submitted it), but the last few stories I've written that have made it to Digg have resulted is a lot of positive and kind comments, so maybe this is the Universe seeking balance.
- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I've tried to get my editors at SG to make the newswire SFW on Wednesdays when my column goes live. So far, it's worked out in an immediate sense, but we all know the domain will remain forever blocked in filters and stuff.
I always post excerpts in my own blog, though, and if you want you can read part of this story, and the stuff I cut out, there: http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2006/11/geek_in_review__3.html - corser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm surfing the rest of the site at work right now :D
And I heart the nekkid goth chicks. - bedago, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"I made my save vs. "I really want it" roll (+5, for Fear of Wife's Wrath) and moved on."
- I love that line and swear I make that same roll at least once a day. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Have you ever heard of Star Trek: The Next Generation? :-p
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I like Wil's blog, but I kind of wish it were somewhere other than SuicideGirls. While I like nekkid goth chicks as much as the next guy (maybe more), certain others (like the net admins at work, bosses, etc) may not appreciate it. Thus, generally anything in that domain is either
a) blocked (probably) or
b) You may have a hard time convincing people that you went to suicidegirls.com for the articles. Really. - kidc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8It is something diggers can relate to and appreciate but unfortunately there are always going to be douchebags no matter where you go or who you are. There could be an article posted by Jesus himself and there would be the invariable "Jesus is a fagzors lol1!11!!" posts from internet *****. Thank digg though for the handy block feature and digg down to let these losers know we don't appreciate their comments here.
The thing is it's not even about Wil Wheaton the actor, it's about reading an entertaining article by an accomplished writer so thank you for sharing that with us and believe me there are way more of "us" than there are of "them". - diggik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6+1 for mentioning GURPS.
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6This is Wi*L* Wheaton not Wii Wheaton, RTFA before posting plz n00b.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thoroughly enjoyed this, Wil, and I'll be hunting down The Gamers for the next time our Call of Cthulhu crowd decides to have a movie night instead of getting eaten by Shoggoths or falling down bottomless abysses.
The fact that I grew up on board gaming and RPGs is part of why I lament the rise of ultra-realistic next-gen console games. I think we really miss out on having to use our imaginations, be creative, think nonlinearly, and feel immersed when everything is presented on our television screen and in surround sound without room for our own interpretations.
I, for one, am raising my kid to be a true gamer -- so he can spontaneously feel like one when he's just riding in the car with his friends, so we can play Settlers of Catan by candlelight when the power goes out, and so he can pass it on to another generation. - bgeipel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wil,
In your post, you mentioned how bad you were treated at gaming cons 18 years ago. I remember that very well. It was the LA Origins I think. I was down in the minitaures room playing a WW2 game and you were at a Warhammer 40K table. Everyone at my table was commenting on "Hey, look, its Wil Wheaton" Then some idiot at our table started shouting things like "Weasly Crusher, please report to the air lock." Many others in the room were doing the same thing. I was so embarrased and felt sorry for you. After all, you were one of us, why did they need to do that.
So, if it helps any - please accept my 18 year delayed apology for not standing up for you back then. As the GM of that table, I sure could have put a stop to it.
Barry - tony134340, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not a real-life RPG fan but The Gamers is a great movie. Haven't seen the second. The budget for the movie was obviously low but that's part of it's charm.
- embraceware, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Keep up the great work Wil. Hope you get on TWiT.
Anyone who hasn't read or listened to "Just a Geek" - go out and find it. - tmanka, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Agreed, I really do enjoy your posts and comments. Please keep up the good work.
- javster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Now that we have this So-Called report, where's the real one?
- drksun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2haha thought it was Wii ventilation
- BobCat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't wait to read his report on DefCon.
- chicagospur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@ estacado
People misread the title and thought it said "Wii Wheaton's So-Cal Gen Con Trip Report" - bartyboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The So-Cal Gen Con?
Is that like the Bi Mon SciFi Con? - grendel, on 10/12/2007, -11/+106 STORIES ON PAGE ONE ABOUT Wii
fuggin geeks.
Maybe Digg should have a "all i care about is Wii" section.
It would be a sub section of "I am still a virgin" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Wil Weathon is japanese? :-O
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I don't care about Wil Wheaton one way or another. What I find slightly creepy is the impassioned defense of him by random strangers on the internet.
You can buy physical love in shady parts of town ya know, you don't need to curry favour from your unseen internet gods. - taxicab, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Our famous Wesley Crusher http://www.myextralife.com/archive.php?date=2003-07-11 very funny pic!!
- BigBadger, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1"First of all, it doesn't matter what someone thinks of a person's acting, "
Hey! AH NEEDS TAH KNOW, SIR-AH!!
Wheaton's acting career has been the topic of drunken conversation a handful of times between my friends and I. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3GAY NERDS REJOICE!!!!!!!! MORE TRIVIAL NEWS ABOUT AMERICA'S FAVORITE NERD FAGICON!!!!!
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Who is this Wil Wheaton, and why does his name crop up on the front page so frequently?
- BigBadger, on 10/12/2007, -22/+6I still need to know what happened between "Stand By Me" and "ST:TNG", 'cause boy, the acting quality sure dropped off quick.
- jkenneth, on 10/12/2007, -26/+9He's a washed up actor who likes video games.
