- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -8/+83Okay, it's a little weird to refer to myself in the third person when I submit an article to digg, but I figured it was preferable (and more descriptive) than "I got my geek on at E3 and wrote about it for The AV Club!!11!"
Thank you for your understanding. - wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -9/+29@MatttK - Actually, the fact that I submitted it myself will probably result in a lot of people _not_ digging it, but I think it's an entertaining read, so I figured I'd take a chance. Thanks for the digg. :)
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19first the kolvoord starburst, and now this.. what would picard say?
- Piper7865, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I read this and then I laughed out loud....... Then I hung my head in shame at the realization that recognizing what the "kolvoord starbust" was makes me a huge nerd.
- jla1987, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Shut up all of you! My God, can't the man just post a story without you all bitching about it. You all need to grow up!
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Well, the thing is Wil, you and Kevin Rose seem to have the ability to have any story you guys submit instantly rocketed to the front page. Celebrity does have perks, even if it is a bunch of geeks liking you :)
Still, despite the fact of who you are, the article is superb. You have quite a gift for writing, it's very Hunter S. Thompson-ish...........without all the drugs - cbegin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20ucbrave92: You're a sad little man. This dude's done more in his life than you'll ever do. If being a c-list actor is lame, then dogging a c-list actor on a public news site has to be even more lame. You're a loser. STFU.
- johnnyOnline, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16angry nerds posting flames about other cranky nerds are always amusing, in that drunken baby sort of way -hmm- nice article, well written - digg? dugg.. done
wil could have easily posted his own story under a psudonym, but didn't. i have no issue with that. nor do have anything interesting to add to this comment.. end transmission. - wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Hahahaha. Oh man. Nice. =]
- cokebottletuque, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15lets put it this way i have never heard of Wil be for but his article was a good read, normally i would have been struck by ADD and quite reading it half way through the first page. but it held my attention and if his writing can do that its good. who cares if he submitted it himself its bad etiquette to submit storys from your own blog only when you suck a writing and cant get visitors to your blog any other way.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I wish I could write articles about myself, submit them to Digg, and know for sure that they'd hit the front page relatively quickly. ;p
- Piper7865, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17"You dressed up as Will Wheaton! nobody wants to be Wil Wheaton Lois ! Not even Wil Wheaton.
- DarkDonnie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I spotted Wil at E3 four or five years ago and asked if I could have my picture taken with him. He was really cool about it. I said "I used to hate you on TNG, but after reading your blog I think you're great!" He thanked me and we parted ways. It wasn't until a few minutes later that I realized that was an incredibly rude thing to say. Sorry Wil! :-D
- wilwheaton, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Yeah, that's me. Nice use of E&S. =]
- AgentLars, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Is that Wil Wheaton the author? I love his stuff!
elbow & send - zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9See, Wil's got a sense of humor. If someone quoted some ***** like that about me, I'd be all "Hahaha. Man. I'm on the first plane to Ontario to break your face." That's why I wouldn't last in the public eye. I'm a poor sport.
- spazzium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Such a comfortable writing style, always an enjoyable read.
- zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@lagrange: Firstly, jealousy gets you nowhere. Secondly, Wil is a role model for so many of us growing up with his work and the example he set (and sets today). He inspired more than a few of us out here to be good kids, to try hard, and not to be ashamed of being a little different. Shame on your cowardice.
- zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11"Hey, I'm lagrange... Look how wry I am. I mindlessly troll on digg as can be seen under my profile. Please God someone think of me as having an original thought in my head. Sitting here in my own pitiful pool of losery anger mocking the world as it sails by me is the only thing I feel good at. Please. Someone antagonize me. This and speed dating are the only things I have left."
Well, okay, if that's what you really want. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7He's actually done quite a lot of stuff besides writing ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wil_Wheaton - coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Great article Mr Wheaton.
I wish i had more time to keep-up with your blog. - freezingeva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I am thinking Piper knew he would get the Family Guy reference.
- eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You seem unimpressed with the Wii. How contrarian of you.
- overaction, on 07/14/2009, -1/+4My eyes are playing tricks on me, I was certain this article said "Wii Wheaton Gets his geek on at E3". This waiting is making me go crazy...
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hahah no the Narcissist is a 90's wrestler. His name is Lex Luger.
- omenmedia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4lol piper, I did the same, and felt the same. :)
Kinda weird hopping on here today and seeing posts by Wil Wheaton when just last night I was watching a TNG episode that featured Wesley a fair bit (When the Bough Breaks) - I am introducing my wife to TNG, starting with the first season, of course. Funny thing is, she's not a geek but she doesn't mind watching Star Trek... those people DO exist!
Anyway, good article Wil, it's good to see you're still a geek. :) - sdcarter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Your momma's 15 minutes is over!
...damnit will they just invent a tivo that lets me watch shows before they air so I... oh snap, Lost is on.
Edit: Oh yeah, nice blog Wil. Thanks for the E3 coverage. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Isn't Wil Wheaton an actor on the former Star Trek TNG?
Drawing a connection here... saw him and kevin rose on tech tv (or g4)...
Or is this a Michael Bolton / Office Space thing? .. same name as a famous guy.
just a thought. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yea read his blog... saw a photo. I knew it.
Too bad he left the show with that Traveller guy... was hopin he'd come back. - solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Dude, like he cares about some Digg traffic. He gets traffic by virtue of having been on freaking STAR TREK FOR YEARS. Get a life.
- NovaScorpio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I don't really care if the author posted his own article, but I really didn't think it was well written.
Many people are content in comparing Wil Wheaton to Hunter S. Thompson, but the notion makes me a bit queasy. I enjoy reading gonzo journalism , but Wheaton's attempt seems too forced; perhaps because he had anticipated a wide range of readers, Wheaton included tons of painfully obvious information and credentials. I'm not sure why things like "we have met the nerds, and they are us" needed to be included - this *is* Wil Wheaton we're talking about right? - robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fun read. I wish I could write like that.
- eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3digg for you Donnie. It's never too late to make amends.
- dmarkham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Check out Wil Wheaton on eventful.... Lots of People are Demanding to see him!
http://eventful.com/performers/P0-001-000000567-9 - quiddy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Haha amazing read, Wil. I envy the fact that you were able to play Guitar Hero II before me!
- roadkillkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know, but Raoul Duke might...
@Wil - keep up the geek and loathing. Nice work. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Hey Wil - as always, really enjoy reading your work!
BTW: Maybe the shower problem is a DIY'er type of fix? (you KNOW you wanna try it)
(anticipating another good read if so :) - geekchic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Having been to many trade fairs myself - I utterly roared at the comment about the booth babes being described as wearing the "trade-show equivalent of burkas"
Excellent article. - copper7op, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"the johnny depp of geeks", i love it, lol. But seriously, even it you wernt so freakin cool, i'd digg it. Well written piece, i always enjoy your stuff
- and just for imthedarkcyde Wil, could i get your autograph ? :D - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3One of my ex's told me you saw her breasts. Still not very happy about that.
- locke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3its the same guy as the actor.
- hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you're not going to get HD via component out on the PS3. The Blueray spec allows content providers to downgrade the signal if there's not an HDMI "handshake", and we all know they'll all set that flag to "stop piracy".
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not unimpressed - just focused. If he had waited to see the Wii he'd not have been able to see all that other stuff - much less play Guitar Hero.
- dakkon2399, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Fun read, very relaxed and personable. Thanks for keeping us comp geek scifi nerds entertained all this time Wil:)
- kuken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love you
- dslartoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy smokes. Guitar Hero II will have "YYZ"? Dugg just for that.
- stephaniegrace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wil Wheaton, get out of my dreams and into my car. I friggin' love you.
- sencha5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Ha! I was about to submit his blog post to Digg, but Wil beat me to it with the actual article...sneaky sneaky
- kuken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ghey is the new black
- domr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Argh. Now I keep reading "Nintendo Wil" instead of Wii. Grr
(A preferable and slightly less pissy name, if you ask me.) -
