- Makubex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45oh my god, that looks so ridiculously fun to play.
- drsnacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Holy crap - when playing Paper Mario, I always thought it would be great if they made a 2D platformer based on these sprites, since better & better graphics would have naturally led us to such a result if polygons didn't cause such an upset. And now there they go!
- illegal_op, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16how did this fall through the cracks, Nice find
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16lol, what an ugly skin you got there. I'm not so sure advertising that on Digg will get you any members.
- Brightside, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Ack!! I feel like I'm getting overloaded on Nintendo news. Its great that so much good stuff is coming out, but let me savor each news story before another comes out!
- LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10They have a Paper Mario 2, it's called Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Old Door.
- esaba.com, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11That would just feel wrong to play.
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Mario IS Nintendo.
- PDAIsAOk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9New Super Mario Brothers on the DS is fun from start to finish, Would be very surprised if this one wasn't the same situation. So glad to see Nintendo going back to their roots.
- SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I wonder how many Mario games this makes.
- CyberGlitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9There's too much good Nintendo news to sift through...I'm glad I didn't miss this.
- racketboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11this was mentioned a few times on Digg already, but I guess this has the most creative title.
I think the game looks incredible and I'm so glad we will finally be getting a real 2D platformer for a real console (not a handheld).
I've been preaching about this for quite a while.

As interesting as the New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS looked, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed with the polygon look. However, I think that the Paper Mario style has the perfect blend of old-school style and modern polish that will be enough to make nostolgic gamers, both hardcore and casual, drool with anticipation.
Combine this with the success of Viewtiful Joe and maybe this will inspire other developers? - kKhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Nintendo has 2 Zelda games, a Metroid game, and 3 Mario games in development all at the same time. They're really putting all their cards on the table here, but obviously I'm not going to complain ;).
- mygen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I guess the beautiful thing is, those without a GC that want to enjoy this, can just pick up a Wii, and game away, best of both worlds!
- CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9And thats a bad thing?
- bab7880, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Royal Flush anyone?
All In? - OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10"=("? You xboxers can keep your halos for all I care. But you can't have my Mario. (Unless you buy a gamecube, then we're cool.) And PS3 can keep whatever it is that it has...
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Back to basics gameplay at its finest. Segas Sonic games on GBA and DS have been the best in the franchise since SA2 on the dreamcast. I wish they would take note of what nintendo is doing and give us a decent 2.5D sonic game on a major (non portable) console.
Between this an NEWSMB i am going to be a very happy camper this year :D - oboreruhito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4on Wiiiiiiiiiiiiid
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I bought a used Gamecube w/ a handful of games for $50 off my friend -- what an investment!
Anyone who knocks the system is a fool and this game will only solidify that statement.
Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door is a fantastic game and a platformer in the same vein as that is sure to add to Mario's long legacy.
If anyone doesn't have a Gamecube, you can find them used dirt cheap and some great games even cheaper. It is a worthy investment, especially since the Wii will support those games as well. - stevex0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6 This post and the responses are sorta how I felt when seeing sonic the hedgehog on a nintendo.
- ImperatorTerrae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Does that even make sense? Why would Nintendo give up their core game amidst so much praise? I for one think Mario belongs solely on a Nintendo system.
- sixister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4absolutely must ***** have this game.
- andygravity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah for sure. i've been stocking up on CG games since hearing about the backwards compatability (gave my old GC away a while ago) i only hope they release some kind of adapter (or failing that a Wii version) of the GBA player. not holding my breath on that one tho.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does anyone else think that just for the hell of it, Nintendo should release a new, classic Mario game? I mean Mario built for NES, but available on all of Nintendo's platforms. The closest I've seen so far is New Super Mario Brothers on the DS, but even that has a touch of 3D about it.
After reading through countless Mario/Wii/Nintendo stories on Digg, it's obvious to see that we all get pretty nostalgic when we see the likes of NSMB. Me personally, I'd just love to see a true 8/16-bit Mario game for old time's sake. I think it'd sell amazingly well and I bet it'd be cheaper to make too.
I know I'm dreaming. - ben.0081, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I hope they keep the fold in to airplanes and sailboats stuff they had in the paper marios.
- 000jr000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3plus one mario RPG for the GBA and one for the DS
- racketboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its supposed to be pure platforming
- hustla111111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4imagine playing this game......... on WEEEEEEEED
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can anyone explain why there are MATH EQUATIONS with mushrooms as variables in the sky on some of the levels and random rectangles strewn all over? This game has the most bizarre art direction I've ever seen.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No it's definetly a platformer, a very bizarre platformer.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not going to argue about this and that. I'll just say "this looks awesome."
- dugbay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this going to have a RPG element like paper mario? I hope not. I want a old school platformer for the GC!
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why are there numbers above stomped goombas? Man you need to go replay some old mario games. =)
- GNiMeLF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mario & crew forever!
- mopenstein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mike I posted this to our site 2 days ago!
- Springs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This should come out now so we have something this awsomely fun to pass the time before wii!
- reNNard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Ahhh nostalgia at its finest...
- pfister_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I wonder how many Mario games this makes."
Upcoming releases you mean? Three. New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Paper Mario. Four if you count Yoshi's Island 2.
Nintendo finally wakes up. After making 2 new Mario games in the past 10 years, we get four in the next year. I am excited as hell. - dugbay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pathetic?? This looks like it may be one of the best games on the GC. Just cause its not a shootum up with allot of explosions does not mean the games sucks. In fact I think the reason why the video game industry is jut blah right now is cause no one wants to take a risk. This game is a risk.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well we really know virtually nothing about this game at this point. Also, the screenshots I've seen look pretty nice. The psuedo-3D levels would probably be pretty ugly and aliased on the DS instead of the Gamecube.
- jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2with the wii's backwards compatibility, you can expect to play it. i've never seen a nintendo game with better graphics or visuals than super mario galaxy. agree?
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And if you go back behind paper mario theres always the overlooked mario rpg on the snes.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is a pretty neat idea, they could sell it for 5 bucks a pop on the Virtual Console too.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparently they're trying to get their last Gamecubes sold before the Wii comes out. Smart move if you ask me.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll definity pick this up when I get the Wii, I know I don't need the Wii, but I traded in my Cube for a DS
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1uh... this would be #a lot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_game - madmathmatician, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks good, but then i found a link on that same page, "Random Half-Naked Woman Getting Tossed Out of E3" had to check it out immediatly!
- RenZ87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is going to make the Wii's backwards compatibility with the gamecube worth it.
- Shatstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nope.
The new Zelda takes the cake for me in graphics -
