http://wii-news.dcemu.co.uk/running-homebrew-and-emulators-on-the-wii-console-tutorial-44842.html - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14You can do that with pretty much any console.
- BlkGuyAtThePrty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11My best guess is that less then 1% of all Wii owners who would be interested in playing VC games would consider the homebrew alternative. I love homebrew, but I'm also OK with the headache that can come with console hacking. I believe most people would pay a small fee to avoid the time investment of getting homebrew to work.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wow, people love to bitch, don't they.
God forbid something make the homepage twice and let those of us that missed it the first time get the information...
Clearly if enough people digg something for it to return to the homepage, then its worth having there. Not really that simple of a concept to grasp. - TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Ohhh...this is very nice...but I get the feeling they are going to be fighting a firmware War against Nintendo as VC games make Nintendo a decent amount of cash for very little input.
"Then select ADD NEW CODE and name it SDLOAD. Enter the following code"
50 lines of code...wait...are you serious, you want me to do what? - cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It's a one-time entry, then AR remembers it.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Now if you didn't have to track down an expensive and rare Gamecube SD converter, this would be great
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Entering those codes was a bitch. Quad-Check each line before moving on. Get a friend to help too.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12"50 lines of code...wait...are you serious, you want me to do what?"
No, nobody else cares whether or not you do it. You'd want to do it if you wanted to run GameCube homebrew. - crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't think they can even do this on X-Box 360 yet, wtf are you on?
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, someone blogs other peoples news.... then someone posts said blog on digg days after original article... creative.
Bury it please. - hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm thinking sarcasm
- foofightrs777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is slightly off topic but what's the situation with Gamecube Japanese Imports on a North American Wii? Can we still use boot disks like Freeloader?
- Nysul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Called my walmart saturday and they said they would have them saturday at midnight. So I show up at 10pm, notice no line, talk with the manager, and was given some BS about wed at 8am.
Went to Toys R Us 4 hours before opening the next day and they had a line of over 150 people. Since I had no idea how many they actually had I said screw it, and bought one on craigslist for $100 more, as my time is more valuable than that, and I figured demand would only increase before Christmas. Sure, I could have waited until January, but I would like to get my wife into some holiday gaming (so far she loves bowling).
One of the problems in my area is the stores (at least target and walmart) are not limiting them to 1 per person. People were walking out with 1-8 Wiis at a time. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Freeloader and Action Replay GC successfully can boot a Japanese GC game on the Wii. Have tried this myself.
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well lets be honest, if a person is going through the trouble to run their emulators via homebrew on the Wii, they weren't going to buy the old games anyhow, they were just going to emulate them elsewhere. With any luck Nintendo will realize this, and still will leave the system open enough for people to tinker with.
Now we wait and see what happens next... - darkixion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Out of curiousity, can the Wii play Gamecube games from another region, or does it enforce the original region-locking on the Gamecube?
- Yoshi39, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Imported Gamecube games work with Sdload just as they would with the gamecube however imported wii games doesn't work
- adenansu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5no one wants you to do it. if you can get off your ass and do it the one time its required, you won't have to do it again. but its up to you, no one actually cares if you do it or not.
- decay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii Shop on EBAY...
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2First, think of the crowd that is getting Wii. Even Nintendo has targeted this sytem for non-gamers. These are not people that even know what homebrew means and probably think it has something to do with coffee. Ma and Pa are not going to go online, find some homebrew, and boot a Wii into emulation mode.
Believe it or not, there is a huge market of people that actually purchase things legally, whether its movies, music, or Wii Virtual Console games. While there will be a small foundation of Wii owners that will look at ways of getting homebrew emulators to run on the Wii, I would imagine that out of the millions of Wii's that will be sold this December, most of the people will be buying virtual console games, if they are inclined to want the old games. And when you think of it every VC game sold is almost pure profit. Nintendo already made an empire on these games and I doubt significant R&D went into making them run on the Wii hardware. Even if 2 out of 5 people pirate a game for a Wii emulator, Nintendo is laughing to the bank.
Its like with iPod and iTunes, you can easily fill your iPod with pirated music but how is it that the iTMS sells a bilions songs online? If your provide a an easy and relatively cheap online path to purchase retail content legally then it will appeal to a much wider audience then having to dig through questionable websites to find homebrew applications and illegal pirated game content. - Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1......
- fujimonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good luck with that. The 3 that I have called said 8 am on wednesday, no midnight purchases... but your could be different. good luck.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I heard from a friend that it is region locked.
- Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same thing I heard this weekend while looking for one for the girlfriend. Ended up waiting in line for 5 hours at Target Sunday morning and managed to score a couple though. There's plenty of Wii out there, you just have to be willing to invest some time waiting for one :P
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That is total BS, I too just called my local Wal*Mart and they said it would go on sale at 8am. The circular they sent out clearly says "Availible 12/6". It says nothing about not being availible until 8am. I am going to speak to a Wal*Mart manager tonight about this.
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Like you can't just find some roms right now and play them on your computer. Here let me get you started.

http://www.divineo.co.uk/cgi-bin/div-uk/ds-dsdml.h ... - miyawii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Action Replay + SD Gecko is still the best way to play homebrew software (emulators, homebrew games, mp3,...) on GameCube/Wii. It is the only 100% homebrew software compatible method, and it is the cheaper way.
Here is a tutorial:

Double posted. Remove this if you can.
PS
And you can find SD Gecko in the wiibuy ebay store. - evilgold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this exploit has been out as long as the wii, or just about.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3No Joke, a video of someone doing this was on the front page of digg the day after the wii was released.
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2wow only 50 lines...thats hilarious
- rezendes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3this is old news
- battletux, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3old news
- andrewober, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1This is old news. I posted two videos on Maxconsole.net an hour within purchasing the console on 11/19 proving that homebrew can run; however, backup/pirated games will not run.
- bcool, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4FINALLY! I mean its about goddamn time...
- DavGerm4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Dude this is sweet, now I don't have to buy Wii Points...

- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2It's good to see the Wii might be useful for something rather than acting like a retard playing video games.
- eggdude, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6Wow. People love old news, don't they. At least if it has Wii in the title.
- bergetun, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Another reason to buy Nintendo Wii
