- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+35take it from THIS wii owner, it's worth every penny. havent even turned on my PS3 since we got the wii.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33you have a 2 year wait
- SDavees, on 10/12/2007, -21/+41Congratulations Nintendo
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Its kind of impressive how sales seem pretty equally split amongst the three major regions...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24and they're STILL sold out nationwide
- rolf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24There are many owners of Wiis, is there any other reason we should listen to your opinion in particular? Especially as it seems to be in the minority...
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19You're holding on to it but it isn't good?
- Ins0mn1ac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19vgcharts spams digg daily
the fanboys don't seem to mind, though... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16way to be almost, but not quite, entirely irrelevant
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+161) No electronic item besides a Game Boy will probably survive a fall down a flight of stairs.
2) Stairs has 1 R, not 2.
3) Reserve capital letters for the beginning of sentences, please!
4) 6,000,000 - 1 != 599,999. Where did you learn math? O_o. - Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22My guess is, you're not getting the right games. In my opinion, the only good Wiimote usage in Zelda was the fishing, so I don't see why the game was hyped so much. Madden 2007 is INSANELY fun to play though, because they actually implemented some really nice realistic motions...throwing the ball and then juking as you run just feels so natural. SSX Blur is nice too, it takes some getting used to but you'll find that flailing your way to an ubertrick can be very rewarding.
There's still no justification for me to get a 360 nor PS3...if I want to push buttons I can just play better games on PC. - jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Whoa... Deja vu! Didn't this happen last week or something?
- KrazyKoala, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Okay there are like 3 or so front page posts a day about how great Wii/DS sales are. Congrats to them but can we just add a Wii sale ticker directly into the page a la nexgenwars? I'm tired of all these posts.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12^ Yeah, not sure if this is good or great news.
It's one funny situation. They're selling like hotckaes... no, actually, now hotcakes are going to be said to sell like Wii's ... it's crazy, everybody wants one, nobody can find one, and at the same time... we [the informed] know that it wouldn't take much and all this buzz could die.
No matter what happens, we'll be talking about this for years ... - davemak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That is due to Nintendo's shortage of hardware. I think Nintendo is trying to satisfy all regions at the same time. If there were more available the last 4 months, they would have sold more and we may see different numbers from the different regions.
- dominasian, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23are your shift typing pinkeys getting a little twitchy there baddog?
- GALILEE77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8curiousgeorge1-
The wii is a happy creature, and it would not just "fall" down the stairs- it's just not the type to do that sort of thing. Now I could see it being pushed down the stairs by a certain make-a-babydoll-cry, break-eggs-with-its-evil black box of death (known in some circles as the PS3). I'm not saying it was the 3, but I would check the scene for crows' feathers. - jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yup... Just about a week ago... Wonder what happened?
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Nintendo_Wii_has_sold_6_million_units_worldwide - CaptMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Take it from the owner of a Wii, an Xbox 360, and a PS3, the Wii is totally worth it. I probably spend about equal time with it as the 360, but the PS3 hardly ever gets turned on unless it's to watch a Blu-Ray movie...
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7How are these tryouts homosexual?
Are you required to have homoerotic training?
What are you attempting to become a trainer of? - Shanobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8People, stop with the lame arguements about there being no games.
It's been 4 months, and NO game system has ever had a lot of great games to play at the launch. I'm quite happy with the launch of the Wii, happier than the average PS3 owner who has only Resistance and few other games to look forward to this year.
Remember how people mocked the 360 for not having games in its first year?
Yeah...
Seriously, the "no games" arguement is weak. - thomas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8What is really funny is if you go back and look at the sales projections before the Wii launched. One article said 11 million Wii and 30 million PS3 sold by 2011 and at the rate they are going your gonna have to reveres those numbers.
- standing8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's bound to happen. Wii will outsell the 360 sooner than later and when that happens, ALL developers will start putting more thought and coming up with more creative ways in making games for it. Which will lead to developers actually thinking outside the box in game development for once. Congrats to Nintendo. Show the other two(Sony+MS) why you are the reason the Playstation and Xbox even exist.
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Okay, lets list games that are worth playing (doesn't mean they are 8, 9 or 10's, but are worth picking up)
1) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2) Rayman Raving Rabbids
3) WiiSports
4) Excite Truck
5) WarioWare
6) SSX Blur
7) Sonic and the Secret Rings
8) Call of Duty 3
9) The Godfather: Blackhand Edition
10) WiiPlay (Tanks!!!! oh...and you needed another controller anyways)
Now...these are only games I have had a chance to myself play. Add to this these games are coming out within two weeks:
1) Medal of Honor: Vanguard
2) Super Paper Mario (sweet happy monkeys!!!!)
3) Prince of Persia
And at point if you arne't playing games...well...you just aren't buying games.
p.s. Lets not forget about all the great VC games too. - orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Next story on the front page:
Amazing!! Wii Cures Cancer!!! - Humm1977, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Amazing!! Wii Cures Cancer!!!"
Sorry, but the PS3 got there first ; -)
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/4494/5518/sony-playstation-3-cure-disease.phtml - gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Marspidey: Then let me help you out here. The following games have been a blast for me:
1) Sonic and the Secret Rings
2) SSX Blur
3) WarioWare: Smooth Moves
3) Call of Duty 3
On top of that, within two weeks you can also pick up:
1) Medal of Honor: Vanguard
2) Super Paper Mario (sweet happy monkeys!!!!)
3) Prince of Persia
Now...what were you playing on your PS3? - marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It's all they say about the Wii. "They sold Six Million!" I've seen very little about great next-gen games, graphics or game-play, other than the motion sensing control. What entirely new games has Nintendo put out? Not to bash them but I've seen the same games made over and over with very little groundbreaking qualities. Zelda, Mario, etc. those WERE fun but get old. I'm probably going to be dugg down because I sad I didn't like the Wii so If you think I'm wrong tell me why before you start pushing the red hand and I'll explain.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg would also be better without people like you
Just saying. - BinskiBx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yay another wii is selling threw the roof article....How original
- wheaty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is a difference between units shipped and units sold.
- Recockilous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hello
Well this makes the life harder for game manufacturers. The delay of the PS3, and
the royal *****-up of the launch, is disappointing. As is the slow sales.
Wii sells most but it's rather lo-res graphics and the wii-mote prevents it from running all types of games.
PS3 have sold some 2M units world-wide. A high-profile game can have a budget of up to 20M USD so
you need 500.00 copies sold to make a profit. No wonder the software houses ports their next-gen games
to other consoles, as well, even though, initially, the game was a PS3 exclusive.
I think that many CEO's on software houses have trouble sleeping!
Making a high-profile game for a new console is risky.
No wonder it took 9 months to a year, before the first really good games started
to show up for the 360. I think it will be the same development for the PS3. The sales
must pick up before the software houses commits to the PS3, fully.
I think the PS3 will be a success, anyway. But it will take time. - doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you know there are other meanings to the word gay...
he obviously meant the tryouts are cheerful and lighthearted.... - CaptMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Marspidey
Give it some time. Many of the Wii games that came out at launch were just ports, so they didn't really take advantage of the Wii's hardware. The videos of Mario Galaxy actually look next-gen as opposed to what we've seen so far. I predict Wii will go through a dry spell like the DS once the novelty wears off and companies have to actually make good games in order to sell them. Just look at the DS today, tons of great games. - richba5tard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think the parents comment is highly underestimated.
While I love the fact that the Wii is innovative, cheap and stylish, how much games are actually worth playing 5 months after it's release?
Wii sports is fantastic, but if you're not really into adventure, playing tennis is pretty much all you are able to do up till today. Sure, multiple people enjoy Excite Truck, Red Steel or Madden NFL, but none is worth buying the Wii console for. - dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you actually bother looking for semi-reliable numbers, you need to go take a look at NPD. Then again, manufacturers will sometimes "inflate" numbers since shipped != sold, so I tend not to trust any 1 number too much. I just ballpark around +/- 10% so there isn't too much worry about funny numbers.
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The game are frustratingly lacking. Use the 360 far more.
Though Tiger Woods I wouldn't have on any other system. I think it's the 1st EA game since Fight Night 3 that I've really enjoyed playing.
Sports games are going to be it's forte for a while I imagine until the 2nd gen games start coming. - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't understand why vgcharts still has the Xbox 360 under 10 million when Microsoft told us the Xbox 360 sold over 10 million already.
- quick5pnt0cobra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How many times are people going to digg this same story? Every few days another story about how big Wii has gotten makes it to the front page of digg.
- albi123, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Yes, it is selling fast, but how many of those people play them? 3 people I know have wiis, and none of them have played them in like 3 weeks because of lack of games, you can't find Zelda fun after the 3rd time you beat it.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3the games can be good without using the motion sensing, i like how the wiimote feels without using the motion sensing
its like the DS, not every game uses the touch screen, does that make the game instantly bad? - Supadude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I still play my Wii very frequently. I would be playing it more if it werent for a lack of time. And no Wii sports has not gotten old yet.
- Yaku83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd rather be stuck at the arcade I think.
- ddobson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Picked up "The Godfather: Blackhand Edition" last night, and am really loving the Wii motion controls. It's great fun to grab punks by the lapels, slam them against walls and head-butt them. It seems like a small change, but hands-on "negotiation" is excellent in practice. The controls aren't 1:1, so it's got a little of that "Zelda lag," but I'm actually favoring the use of hand-to-hand combat over weaponry whenever circumstances permit. I'm constantly amazed at how much immersion is achieved by using your hands and arms instead of just pressing buttons.
- Ins0mn1ac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...like they did with the DS?
DS has an awesome install base, but you still don't see "ALL develpoers" rushing to put more carts out for it.
Developer relations also plays a huge role. Both Sony and Microsoft openly court third parties, whereas Nintendo has a history iffy third party relations.
Case in point, look at what they're doing with Miis, its a successful feature, Nintendo is basing their next Ad campaign around them and they're still hoarding the integration tools so that the only games that use Miis are Nintendo developed.
Sony is opening Home up to 3rd parties right off the bat and you'd never see Microsoft say that only Microsoft Game Studios games can have achievements... - xerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People complaining about lack of games are full of *****. My Wii game library is already 8 or 9 games big, and I've played and loved them all. Some idiots just dont want to buy anything not made by Nintendo for some reason, and then complain of lack of 3rd party support.
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Zune.... don't talk to ME about Zune...."
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If this had been posted to Industry News, it'd have been in the right topic.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So something else must be hitting the news Friday for sh1t like this to appear.
