- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -4/+110The worst part about sending your Wii back to Nintendo is that for 3-4 business days the dog from Duck Hunt sits in your bushes laughing at you. Damn error codes, i hate that dog!
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -32/+118"And now all three systems have fatal errors. Can we just let the fanboy wars calm down a little?"
The Wii 110213 error is not actually a fatal error. It's really more like a magical pixie fairy that comes to your house with a new Wii, and takes the old one back to Japan... and her fairy wand is made of candy.. and dispenses candy. Hell we should all be so lucky for her to visit our homes. - joaob, on 10/12/2007, -11/+86If this was a PS3 error code it would have 2500 digg's and 217 comments by now.
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67You can also have Nintendo ship a new Wii, and you ship your bricked one back in the box. The only downside is that you lose any saves if you don't have an SD card.
Most of the 110213's happen after the first update, which happens to be the update that adds SD support. So don't say you can't transfer your saves! Go buy a cheap 256 SD card now! - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48Lol... but Dad also never lived in a time where people were so fanatical about the new Chevy Impala, that they camped outside a car dealership for 19 hours.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50"Everyone bitches about the PS3 being so expensive, problem is, it actually comes with most everything you need."
Except a game and HDMI cables. But you can plug it right into your SDTV and play with the menus! That's everything you need! - Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43I try to shoot him with my gun, but he keeps on laughing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43I really hate people that say the HD-DVD is a required purchase for the 360
My 360 works just fine without the HD-DVD, and I have no intentions on getting HD-DVD, no games are going to be made that make use of HD-DVD, You don't have to buy it if you don't want it. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41Umm... those mocking early adopters. OK, so you are not an early adopter, you are waiting for a year. Meanwhile mr. early adopter, who got F'd, is waiting THREE WHOLE DAYS to get his system back! Color me crazy but that's still roughly 360 days before you.
Also you have to look at what company you are talking about here - Nintendo. After 20 years of not having a problem with their stuff (aside of course from blowing in my NES) I buy from them with the highest level of confidence, not just because 99 times out of 100 the hardware works fine, but because I know that the 1 time it doesn't work, their outstanding customer service will take care of it. - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42"And now all three systems have fatal errors. Can we just let the fanboy wars calm down a little?"
Yeah, it's just too bad that we couldn't get the trolls to shut up first. - Shirokun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39Yeah, 2500 diggs because Sony's warranty doesn't cover their own faults:
Sony not responsible if your sistem breaks from a Sony download:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Sony_NOT_Responsible_if_your_System_Breaks_from_a_Sony_Download
Nintendo's Warranty DOES. - MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Many manufacturers will cross ship if you leave a deposit (refunded when they get their wii back), or leave them a credit card number.
- Rigas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Mine had the 110213 error, new Wii is on the way. If you give them a credit card number, they will cross ship the new Wii so you won't miss out on any play time. It's not that bad really, you can copy your saves to SD and the console is still playable.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Dad always said never buy a car in its first model year...and never buy 1.0 of software...or hardware!
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -12/+36"You can also have Nintendo ship a new Wii, and you ship your bricked one back in the box. "
What, so I call up Nintendo, say 'this has happened' and they ship me a new Wii *before* I send the old one back?
I'd be very suprised. - cprincipe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29Isn't it fun being an early adopter?
- Nightfall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21shockertwin:
By the time you finish buying everything that makes Wii or Xbox360 an equivalent in terms of features, you end up spending the same amount or more (Hddvd for the xbox 360 ring a bell?)
Sorry to say, but thats incorrect. If you buy an extra controller and nunchuck, you are spending $60 more. You have to get a second controller for the PS3 and that will run you more as well, about $40-$50. I take it you aren't counting games cause those will run you more per game you buy. So, I buy my Wii and I am spending $320+tax and you are spending $740+tax for the 60gb version. I guess I am not spending the same amount or more for that matter.
As for buying extra stuff, there will always be addons for consoles. Look at the old days of the NES when the powerpad came out for it. What about the lightgun? Seems that every console has had some kind of extra get released for it. The PS3 will have those things as well. Just give it a couple months. - javip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15so if no one ever buys the 1st gen of anything................................... ?
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Hey I've been saying this for months about the Wii and PS3... if you buy first generation hardware there's a much greater chance of it having bugs than if you wait a few months. Definitely not all first-gen hardware will have bugs, but with the varying tolerances in electronics there's a much greater chance of bugs in the first released versions of hardware.

Nintendoes...
what Playstashould. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19"It's really more like a magical pixie fairy that comes to your house with a new Wii, and takes the old one back to Japan... and her fairy wand is made of candy.. and dispenses candy. Hell we should all be so lucky for her to visit our homes."
Downside is she has VD. But it's cool because she can cure it. Most of it. - matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Any idea how many Wiis are effected?
- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Word to the Wii, protect the cable attached to the sensor bar. Mine got frayed and I'm without my cursor. This wire is very thin so be careful.
- matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14LOL WHAT? NO WAY! HAHA... I'd Hardly call a connection problem "a system failure" issue on the same level as the PS3 frying, spitting out cd's, blue-ray/HDTV compatibility issues, ect... at least you can play the games on the Wii... Plus, Nintendo is going to be replacing it in a few days, compared to at least 2 months with Sony considering they don't have anymore to replace them with.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"Many manufacturers will cross ship if you leave a deposit (refunded when they get their wii back), "
If the deposit is $250, this could be an easy way to buy a Wii if they are out of stock in your area. ;) What's the number you call? - dickardo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12My Wii got this error after the first update. I called Nintendo of America and they said it had to be replaced, but that if I gave them a credit card number as collateral, they'd ship a new Wii to me, and then I'd ship the broken Wii back to them (with 3 weeks), all for free.
So I can expect a new Wii in 3 to 10 business days, but in the meantime I still get to do everything except online, which is pretty good considering.

Yeah, $250 sounds cheap, but by the time you purchase an extra controller and a jewel-encrusted chalice, the price advantage disappears. - Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12PS3 has many issues.... its launch games
- simpleblob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't think that the old model are more durable or bug-free.
It's just that today's products are much more complex than the past. - Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Has anyone noticed that when something goes wrong with the Wii, it get's this cutesy sort of post like "Oh, my poor Wii, it's not feeling well"...whereas when the PS3 locks up or has graphic glitches it gets this sort of end of the world "OMG the PS3 has major issues" post?
It's just funny that the Wii is very "innocent" to most gamers while the PS3 mostly brings out hate and rage. It's like the Wii could rob a bank and shoot some people and it would still be cute. - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14This whole thing isn't as common as some people would like us to think... -_- maybe 1 % of the Wiis out there have this problem...
- paulgreber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@Grimdotdotdot
When I got my DS Lite it was a lemon. I called up Nintendo and talked about me shipping my DS to them and they told me that they could ship me a new one and all I have to do is send my broken one back. They needed my credit card information though for insurance that I wasn't going to take the DS and run.
I've gone through that method and it worked quiet well. Nintendo customer support rocks! - adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@Shockertwin's second idiotic comment.
The 360's HD-DVD drive will NOT be used for games. It is solely a cheap alternative to buying a full-fledged HD-DVD player. Giving 360 owners the CHOICE to switch to HD movies, rather than cramming it down their throats. - Rigas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That doesn't work, I tried that and about 10 other things to get mine to work. I did packet captures with ethereal and saw my Wii talking to a nintendo server.. so the networking itself is working, it just doesn't like the response it's getting. Most of the traffic was HTTPS so I couldn't read it, but there was definately network communication happening.
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If you're trying to make the argument that the Wii is more popular, and that people care more about it, then I'd have to agree with you.
- hinkbot, on 10/12/2007, -15/+21Actually...Yes, yes it is.
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@shockertwin "Typical fanboy defences. I am not a big fan of any of the consoles. I think its retarded that everyone that defends Sony in one way or another get dugg down."
I was with you on this point, after that, your comment really went downhill. Let me show you where your misconceptions are.
1) Microsoft has stated there will not be games released for the HD-DVD unit. Period.
2) The wiimote *is* the normal controller for the Wii, and is what all the games are (and will be) designed to use. The classic pad will only work for virtual console games.
3) I'm not even sure what you mean by this statement: "By the time you buy all of the Wii controller, you know, so its actually playable nicely, you can almost buy 2 PS3 controllers." You see, the Wii comes with a Wiimote and nunchuck attachment. That is the entire controller. I'm not sure what else you think someone needs to buy in order to play.
As for the PS3 cables, I actually agree with you that that issue has been a bit overblown. But hopefully this post will shed some light on some things for you. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Holy crap, you must have had an awful experience in the Wii preorder line!
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I must have gotten lucky with my updates as mine worked ok. Although it was almost 7CST Sunday night so I must have missed the big rush.
I feel sorry for the guys that lost their Wiis. - realyst, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15@shockertwin
Then don't, you moron. It has an internal storage device just like your precious PS3. Smaller, yes, but stores plenty saves. - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Maybe the problem is you kept stuffing 'disks' into your NES
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm with Stealthboy - so far, the errors have been very few in number. My only complaint is when you connect to the Wii Store channel - if it doesn't connect, it just sits there *forever*. Would be nice if it had a time out value so I didn't have to unplug it, but so far, I haven't had any problems.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Confused as to why Canti got dugg down. They've all had problems as hardware tends to do in its initial release. We've been singing this song for months now. He's right.
- BleedingHollow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5the worst thing about the Wii Freaking component cable, I can't find one, right now on ebay the cable is going for over $150 wtf.
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yes, playing Zelda for hours on end is about all the 'suffering' I can manage these days ;)
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -18/+22Given the data shown in the "article": two or three.
Whoop-de-doo. Mine updated just fine. And so we see the power of Digg to make a mountain out of a molehill. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@spyro
Your NES never had analog or rumble. It did, on the other hand, have a ***** of frayed wires in the controller, random crashes, and you constantly had to blow in the games and jiggle them in the system to get them to work. Your point?
BTW, I've had my controllers since release day of the PS2 and they're completely fine and dandy. - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I would like to thank all the early adopter for buying these units (both PS3s and Wiis) so that by the time I buy mine all the bugs will be discovered ad fixed. Keep up the good work.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, Kotaku's been pretty much universally biased AGAINST the PS3. Before it came out there would be an article on there every friggin day bashing the system. They're probably not reporting the "beep of death" because not only did the only instance that I've seen of it happen a week ago right after launch, but it was some random guy with a camera. The reported plenty of the crashes in stores, but there's no reason to call one guy's problem "news" just because you hate a certain system. This problem is a lot more widespread on the Wii.
- SoBayJake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5According to my order on nintendo.com for the replacement, $268.11 (which is the $249.99 + tax). So its the retail cost of the new Wii. Shipping (both ways) is free.
