- bigd063, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Weyerhaeuser - $22.665 billion (2004 revenue)
Nintendo - $4.5 billion (2006 revenue) - cheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38"I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay" the video game
- G_Raph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38As a Weyerhaeuser employee i will explain the whole situation.
WII stands for Wilamate Industrial Incorporated (WII). Wilamate was bought out by Weyerhaeuser a couple of years ago and Weyerhaeuser decided to keep the Wilamate name instead of getting rid of it all together. Thus they still owned wii.com. Weyerhaeuser is one of the largest paper makers in the world right behind International Paper.
They make copier paper (their paper is shown off in the show The Office), the make cardboard, and they make other various types of white paper. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+42Anyone think they blackmailed them?
Oh wait, this story is for Nintendo. Not Sony. - Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28I think you wanted:
http://wii.com
It just redirects to nintendo.com right now, they'll probably change it within a week. - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Game Companies: Hmm, it seems that one individual is the owner of Nintendo.com, Sony.com, Microsoft.com, and all major products that we have ever produced.
Me: They'll never notice! - panzerfinder15, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18weyerhauser international industries or something like that
- Chaos12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Always a good deal when you pick up a domain that becomes highly sought after later on... Wouldn't be a bad time travel trick.
- yvovandoorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I like Weyerhaeuser as a company. They really take care of their lands in the Seattle area. Sure they chop down trees (on their own land) but they reseed and take care of the environment. They sure make the drive out to Mt. Rainier (via Emunclaw at least) interesting.
- negativenancy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Oh yeah I forgot Nintendo is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for cancer- not a company that's out to make money. Sony is greedy, Nintendo only cares about the gamers.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9When domains are $9 a year, companies tend to buy up domains that they even might some time in the distant future have a use for. The company I work for has at least 400 inactive domain names.. many not even relating to our business. We've also bought some for tens of thousands of dollars.
- pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"How silly of them to not get the domain until now. And for not checking to see wether or not the Wii name had a domain." (Comment on Blog)
When they chose the name I imagine many employees at Nintendo (Who are probably relatively tech-savvy) knew that ALL 3 letter domain names have been registered for quite some time :D - WocEnasni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5steveng,
I live in north central Wisconsin, right by some of their mills, and I was wondering the same thing - kuroda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Apparently, wii.com was originally the website for Willamette Industries, a lumber and paper company from Portland, OR, until Weyerhaeuser bought them in 2002.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I like Weyerhaeuser as a company. They really take care of their lands in the Seattle area. Yes, they do. The drive out to Rainier is always nice.
Now when is that new lodge going to be completed? - romulusnr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3YM Willamette. WTF is Wilamate?
And Weyerhaeuser is also well known in the construction industry, largely for lumber and other wood-based products such as particleboard. (They used to underwrite This Old House, at least back in the Bob Vila days).
Fun fact, I live in the same town as Weyerhaeuser's corporate HQ. Which incidentally is about 25-30 miles from Nintendo's US HQ. If there were large sums of money involved, they may as well have been hand-delivered. - shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's why I'm going to purchase www.playstation12.com to hold and sell for my great grandkids education fund.
- weirdo513, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2* Negativenancy casts "Summon Enraged Fanboy"
- Rayfound, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Weyerhaeuser is already a VERY wealthy company...Over 14.6 Billion market Cap...

- shit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1AL-MAN-AC
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Melissa: Wait, why doesn't the manufacturer just sell the paper directly to people?
Michael: You are describing Office Depot. And they are kind of running us out of business.
Dwight: We have better service than they do! - jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Nintendo had this same problem with GameCube.com four years ago. This seems to be a routine thing for them.
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5What was this "weyerhaeuser corporation" using wii.com for?
I dont see how it relates to their company - steveng, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5I live in Yakima Washington, about two min. away from one of there bigger buildings (Random fact). Why would they own wii.com? Also, they are a very large corporation.
- RawSewage, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I'm not JoshHendo. I just told him about it.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Wii not?

- Ductapemaster, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5I guess the real question is...To Wii or not to Wii? Sorry for the horrible shakespeare reference, I had to get it out there...
- bigd063, on 10/12/2007, -18/+12Pretty sure Weyerhaeuser is larger than Nintendo.

"lol ok!" - archiecstll, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Sorry... link posted before isn't working the way i intended it to
-edit: wasn't working for me after editing my original post... but apparently works... my bad. - mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1it's down
- pedro101, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4I e-mailed the Weyerhaeuser Corporation several months ago, telling them they could be rich if they wanted to. It looks like they listened. ;-)
