Wii wheel, wii wheel... rock you? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62The graphics look very Sega Saturn.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39I agree.
The great thing about this is that a $0.25 piece of plastic makes a decent steering wheel. Likewise a $0.25 piece of plastive makes a decent light gun etc. Which in-turn means that every tom dick and harry can package thier game with a peripherial.
They could easily make a big leather wrapped, force feedback, with pedals and a shifter steering wheel, but they sure as hell wouldnt be giving them away. - dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38Wow, the graphics look horrible. Like, worse than gamecube.
- micro506, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32The best part is that that would actually work.
- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Not even a gas pedal or brake pedal. =(
On the other hand, most console steering wheels do lack one fun thing.... A shifter with a clutch pedal!
This Wii Wheel is better if you were going over to your friends house and didnt want to carry all the wheel equipment around. - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I am seriously dreading the Mad Katz take on the Wiimote. It's gonna, like... plug into the wall socket for power, and it's not really sensitive so you have to swing it around wildly, and the speaker will just be an old PC-speaker, and it'll be made out of cheap, ugly, purple and black plastic.
But it'll be $3.80 cheaper than the official Wiimote, so that's the one parents will buy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Also compatible with Excite Truck, Cars, Monster 4x4: World Circuit, racing portions of Sponge Bob, and any other racing games with tilt control. Wheel allows full access to all buttons.
Wonder how it would work if you tried it with Tony Hawk's Down Hill, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz or Sonic and the Secret rings, which are all tilt based. - CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Sorry, but usually people cant catch sarcasm when you type it. Try putting /sarcasm at the end...
- achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19For pedals you could strap a player 2 wiimote to your foot, it could even sense if you were pushing gas or break. Of course you would just be pushing air... and it would probably suck.
- ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Or you can be a cheap bastard and just tilt the controller sideways.
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I was thinking the same thing, except for the cheap part. Regardless, though, it seems that this is only to give the feel of using an actual steering wheel, although holding the controller by itself like a steering wheel will probably be the same when it comes to functionality.
- aks123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18And he almost sounds intelligent in much the same way that you almost sound like a smart-ass.
- soopah256, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"Or tape the wii controller to a plate."
ah thanks. that gave me a good laugh. :-) - solarisom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I can already imagine an episode of Pimp my Ride where they install a controller in the steering wheel and add a Wii and 14 unnecessary LCD screens
- Dust3r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18say wii wheel 10 times fast
- BakedGoods, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17The graphics are cel-shaded, but poorly done by the looks of it. Hopefully the wheel can be bought separately.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20For any type of realistic driving simulation you certainly need analog controls for both the velocitator and the deceleratrix.
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16as long as it's not Mad Catz. ;)
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12From the article: "Unfortunately there will be no progressive-scan feature in the game."
What the? I was under a (false) impression that all games would be at least 480p. This is extremely bad for most HDTV owners. 480i looks bonus bad. - Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Now these look pretty good, in spite of this GT Pro game. Hopefully Splinter Cell:DA is more representative of what the Wii is capable of. http://media.wii.ign.com/media/852/852866/imgs_1.html
Then again, Ubisoft specifically, has always done a fantastic job with each respective console, where Splinter Cell is concerned. - keikun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13ew at the game
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18at least do it right. It's like this:
Wii Wheel, Wii Wheel, Rock you.
DAM - HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I hope they have some more realistic racing games for the Wii.
Arcade racers are ok every now and then but a sim is much better IMO. - Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"First gameplay screen of GT Pro Series for Wii"
LOL the game looks like it was made for the playstation 1.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I just saw this funny-ass pic of the Wii controller mod of the Zelda sword and shield:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Zelda_Wii_The_New_Way_To_Play#c2985682
and along with this steering wheel I am just starting to imagine the cool Wii controller mods that are sure to be on the way. - FGFox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Where are the ballsy journalists who'll say, "I see your game looks exactly like Auto Modellista. Do you feel this will make it more or less *****?"
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Sadly this just looks like a port of the 2003 Japan-only game "GT Cube."

http://www.planetgamecube.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=4129 - Naruto28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Slightly OT - Maybe not a head mounted display, but what about a head mounted sensor/addon? Sim junkies have been using the TrackIR - http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ for years now on the PC and it would seem like the Wii sensors would be even more accurate. Something like that would rock for flight sims and racing games on the Wii...
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Have a look here for more insight into the graphics:
http://blog.wired.com/games/index.blog?entry_id=1552942
I'm very pro Nintendo, but I agree, those graphics look like a downgraded version of Auto Modellista. NOT impressed. However, everything else I have seen for the Wii pleases my eye just fine. - dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"edit: or not, i just mimed it and it did't seem so bad"
lol - FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11was gonna say the same thing. the whole no resistance thing might make it suck.
edit: or not, i just mimed it and it did't seem so bad - bking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Miaku... "Touché, Nintendo"? Not sure if you noticed, but it's a third party making this.
- CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Somthing tells me it will look better in motion... hopefully.
- kevcowiffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The lighting in those screenshots looks decent, lighting being a very important part of any Splinter Cell game, but it makes me sad to admit that everything else about it is sort of... unimpressive.
I can't wait to own a Wii, but if its best looking game is that blocky, with pretty simple characters wearing clothes that are only textured onto them, then I might want to not get my hopes up for a last-minute miracle in the graphics department. - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's OK, I dugg you up. Because I
1) Don't think the graphics even look OK. =/ And the last gaming system I played in my home was a Sega Genesis.
2) Am not sure how much fun it's going to be to play a game like this with a steering wheel only.
3) Think the steering wheel looks cheap. Fisher Price toys have better quality materials. And if I'm reading correctly, you have to attach it to the wiimote? Well that's just stupid. Am I spoiled by wireless technology? Yes. I'd rather go to D&B's and play in a booth, to be honest. - Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Definitely the lighting, and you're right, that's any Splinter Cell game, lighting. I really do think it looks completely passable, though. I make no apologies for the Wii, but I'm a fan. I also like advancing graphics technology, I'm fascinated by the tech behind it all. But I don't, anymore at least, have to see a revolutionary Gears of War type leap with every generation of games.
I think with the last generation of games, we got to a point where the graphics were no longer blocky, muddy and pixelated. I'm seriously happy with the current gen. I have a zillion current gen games, many that I haven't beat, and many that I'm anticipating. Enough to keep me happy for a good long time at least (and I'd consider myself an early adopter of new tech most of the time), despite the "next gen". So, if the Wii isn't up to par graphically with the 360, PS3, or current PC, so be it. At least it's a noticable bump up from the current gen, and I'm happy with that.
The games from this generation are immensely fun, despite what the curmudgeoney old gamer thinks. Playing Splinter Cell on the Cube right now actually, going back to it. :) - scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm not into the arcade look of the game but the wheel looks sweet and i just like the idea of different controller add ons
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Apparently it's at proof of concept stages now.
They have only converted a few cars and courses.
See the Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_HD#Gran_Turismo_HD - MasterFunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I do worry that developers might start churning out crappy looking games for the Wii, then just say it is the hardware. We know that both the Xbox and Gamecube are capable of making very good looking games IF the development team just tries. Some of the Wii screens are just pathetic.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And not to mention its free with the game...
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5did they port that from the sega saturn? I don't care that much about good graphics, but that game looks like crap, I don't think they even tried.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't care if it's cell shading or realistic as long as it gives you a good fast motion.
- kilodelta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6this is some kind of joke, right? the game looks like crap. i don't care if the gameplay is awesome or what...a ***** looking game is a ***** looking game, and since my eyes have to be as involved with a game as my hands are, i'll be taking a pass. i'll take Forza 2 and the steering wheel with the force feedback.
oh, and before anyone says it: "wiil" - wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This won't be on my wii game shopping list.
I personally wouldn't buy another racing game as long as I live. Been there, done that, again and again and again.
Clipping a wheel thing onto a wiimote isn't going to sell one to me, especially as that screenshot looks worse than a 1996 DOS racing game. - blackhand0114, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@soccerboi what's stopping you from tilting the wheel forward? Nothing is stopping you from only turning left and right.
- vlurk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I couldn't agree more with you. In fact, Maybe it is worst than you think: it is worst than a good quality title on GameCube actually! Yes, if you have a GameCube with the proper output and a game that support it (I know of a dozen that does at this time) , you get progressive scan with component cable! http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=76&products_id=1468
I bought one for mine and that's why I'll be playing Super Mario Strikers @ 480p in few minutes. ;) - Soave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So like... can I play Ridge Racer with it?
Riiiiiidge Racerrrrr! - vlurk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If it can be efficient with a driving simulation, I wonder if it could be so with a flight simulator.
You attach a base to your Wiimote and voilĂ : you have a flight stick. Pilotwings Wii anyone? -
