- dairiusk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Like I need my right arm to get any stronger
- DrakeTheRedEye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I think they're dead serious, and it's a good idea. Some comments were sarcastic, but a few sounded like they were ready to order them.
- JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Granted...you could simply go out and buy wrist/ankle weights of your own...no need to buy WiiWeights. But...you gotta give Nintendo credit for making an attempt to highlight the benefits of exercise through the Wii.
Combine the weights with something like DDR...you'll be sweatin' your arse off! - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@betterth
wtf do you think real bowling is? The Wii workout is still less strenuous than actually going to the alley. If you're worried about ruining your joints just start slow and light....girlyman - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Hey dumbass, you actually WOULD be lifting "real" weights.
You obviously have never tried Wiisports. Anyone that has knows that you can work up a pretty good sweating playing.
Let me summarize. ***** off you troll. - catchermag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'd use these. If an average guy can drop 9 pounds in a month with the Wii alone, imagine what you could do with an extra 4 pounds of resistance.
- spartan789, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The article says there's really no such thing...it's more just making the point that you can use the weights to make it a better workout.
- borb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I'm not sure how serious this is but I find it funny.
- isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9maybe we all need a wii montage?
- astroshot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@Foxifiednutjob
"Get in shape with "Wii bowling"? " Gimme a break!"
Ok. Just hit the + button - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@iffrat
If anybody actually thinks that, they will feel the same about all other kinds of exercise too. You can't just say that all forms of exercise are a "bad idea" because people will use it as an excuse to gorge on fast food.
This isn't really an original idea. You can buy wrist weights like this at any sports equipment store and get the same effect. They just won't say "Wii" on them. - OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Put a weight on each wrist, grab a controller in each hand and play tennis against yourself. Even without the weight it is quite a mental and physical workout.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Even Rocky had a montage...
- zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I can barely comprehend a word you've written, but I'm getting the impression you belong in a Capcom game.
- Schwabby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sounds like you have to.. LIVE TO WIN!
/southpark - profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's kind of a cool idea actually (the DDR part). I'm tempted to use ankle weights and give it a go.
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@ iffrat
I'd like to know how you figure running on a treadmill doesn't give you a good workout if you're running at a decent speed. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5While i don't believe the Wii is a substitute for healthy exercise (jogging, going to the gym, playing sports (not wii sports))
it IS however, healthier than traditional gaming. Anything that gets you 'moving' at least to some degree, is better than vegitating for 5 hours straight while consuming pepsi/chips etc. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@iffrat
not all workouts are about building muscle. Have you ever heard of cardiovascular workouts? - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4iffrat is just trying to make himself feel uber 1337 for doing an intense workout and being Mr. In-Shape.
No one is impressed. And also, take a moment to allow your muscle to stop stifling your brain and realize that most people don't start working out by doing five or six different martial arts styles. For some people (like myself) something a little less intense that shows results would be exactly what they need to work towards a more intense workout. All things in moderation. Know your limits. - twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7DDR does a better job of giving you excercise. It strengthens your heart and makes you sweat a lot. I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks playing ddr for an hour a day.
- complisult, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It burns when I Wii...
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm actually in the middle of writing a book with a literary agent in NYC and a Men's Health writer based of my "Wii Sports Experiment", we're including these weights in a variety of workouts, this whole Wii fitness thing has gotten huge. Even the Nintendo PR reps are finally acknowledging it, I think in part because they'll be releasing health based games like the Wii Health Pack, which will consist of Yoga and Palates.

My "Wii Sports Experiment" and media coverage:
http://wiinintendo.net/2007/01/15/wii-sports-experiment-results/ - malonie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4just scored a Wii the other day, now every member of our household has a sore shoulder from playing wii boxing. I think this is a better alternative and more fun than tae bo. Thank you Nintendo!
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ooooh, lookie here! People who think that because they're in such great shape they can belittle others!
Oh, wait. This is nothing new. I think it used to be called high school. Now it's just called trolling. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Iffrat, strap 50lbs to your wrist and try your Wii again...
- froz3ntear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would that be awesome?... Sure some people like just exercising alone, but some people love games... and if there's a way to turn entertaining games into exercise... how can that NOT be awesome?... Making games into excersie ONLY has positive effects... so I don't get your comment.
- ontain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just so ppl know.
DDR is coming for the wii. there will be a dance pad and it will also include the wiimote of arm movements. it'll be just like one of those dance workout videos but with feedback. - Psyferre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the article it says that this is not an actual product and the Wii logo was photoshopped.
But I don't think it's a bad idea... just go out and grab some cheap wrist weights and go at it. I would suggest Wii boxing for getting in shape. If you're really into it you can get quite a workout. - dayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good luck to your precious plasma TV if it comes loose
- ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weights for your other muscle?
- Psyferre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1agreed. I love to go hiking, and geocaching, and other outside endeavors, but I'm also a big video game fan - and I think it's fantastic that I can play video games without having to also be a couch potato. i don't know how many times I've thought about playing Everquest outside over a wireless connection so that if i want to play EQ I don't have to miss out on a nice day. Sure it's great to go out to the park and walk around, but sometimes you just feel the video game jones.
Is it bad that people can finally get some exercise while playing a video game? Why are so many people grumbling? With rampant obesity in America I would think that any excuse for exercise should be welcomed. - crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weights or no weights, you're not going to do much of anything bowling unless they're about 20 lbs each.
Wii boxing is currently the only game that really has the sustained activity level you can get into for a proper work out, but DDR is (possibly?) coming. 30 minutes of boxing a day, 5 days a week and you'll lose weight as long as you play it like a work out and don't stand there flipping your wrists. - tedc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dunno... This doesn't seem like a great idea to me. As I get better at the Wii, I find myself relying more on quick little flicks of the wrist than whole body motions, so I'm probably getting less exercise now. With wrist weights, I would be all the more encouraged not to move my whole arm. To do any good, I think the weight would have to be attached to the Wiimote somehow, so that a baseball bat really feels like a baseball bat. Of course, the potential for trashing your living room would go up exponentially.
- boomshakalaka, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4so is putting the twinkie down and getting off the couch and going outside too much of a hassle?
- YupRules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Um, these weights come FREE with cereal up here in Canada. Kellogg's I believe. So why pay for them?
- EelfinnTy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Outside huh? so gyms are not good for exercising?
I don't think many of us are relying on video games for exercise. It's and unfortunate side effect. - sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay, now something heavier to throw at my TV.
- Senseicads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@octowussy
Outside is great for exercise however whats wrong with excercising indoors? I know loads of women who swear by their daily exercise using a fitness DVD, there isn't that much different here. except with the wii its prob more interactive than a DVD. I agree that the games out for it now aren't going to burn pounds of blubber off a big fat belly, but there is definitely scope in the future for some kind of fitness game. - Nocturnalis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Without the weights alone the top half of my wife's back was hurting after an hour of Wii tennis the night before.
Now through in some Wii weights and she will really feel the burn. - EelfinnTy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Granted I'm not in great shape but working up a sweat in Wii boxing is pretty easy if you are playing against another person. Especially if you don't know about the training at the beginning.
Or try some of the workout games on Rayman: raving rabids. You would have really sore arms if you used the weights for the workout games. - gadjitfreek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I play Wii Boxing as though I was really doing the boxing...moving around, throwing full punches...I ride 16 miles a day on my bike, and three games of boxing are enough to get me sweating profusely. It makes an excellent addition to my exercise regimen.
I can't stand working out in gyms. I have always worked out at home. - froz3ntear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't know bout the wrist weights... But I thought I remember reading an article about how ankle weights aren't effective and hurt you in the long run without giving you results...
But really... this just made me laugh. - octowussy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You know what else is great for exercise? Outside.
If you guys are relying on videogames in order to get your exercise, it's time to reevaluate your lives. - SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hmph someone just parked WiiWeights.com beat me to it. I can see someone making these too- they will be your average wrist weights with a Wii logo on them and about a 70% price increase. Sad thing is people will actually buy them.
- tjr7n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Iffrat,
Next time you're in the gym you have to hit those pinkies harder. While often overlooked, they're important because they're the ones over the shift and period keys. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@iffrat
wow. if u want endurance then running isnt a bad idea.
same with ddr. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0driving with ankle weights == fun!
- crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The point is not to cheat yourself. If you're doing this to lose weight, then put the effort into it while you're playing the games. If you cheat yourself at any exercise you won't get the benefit.
- justice7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Truth is, you really aren't going to get more out of the wii using weights than you would just using the wii for exercise (fitness mode for example)
If you want to do weight training, do weight training. -
