I agree - it's awful that Digg has shown what happens when the majority of the people vote on subjects, and show the trends that people are currently following and interested in. It's like it's doing exactly what it's designed to do!
I mean - a method for measuring the Zeitgeist of communities by having them submit and promote the stories that are of most interest to them. Using such a system, one could have a highly volitile representation of people's opinion as a whole, such as about politics and gaming and tech interest. It's as if comments from Sony that could appear arrogant and against customer wishes offend the majority of the people, and they are responding to that! Or that Nintendo is doing something that is innovative and different, and the "wisdom of crowds" reveals that it's a good idea. What nonsense that Digg has become!
Whatever we do, Digg must be stopped, because then people might actually *use* this data to chart what people are most interested in, and profit from that, like offering advertisements based on what people are most interested in, instead of what people *think* they should be interested in. Whatever you do, don't tell Google - it might give them ideas.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10That shows that Wii is becomming very popular. Wii is being announced everywhere and everybody wants to try the Wii... and I want one too...
- Qonfused, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm glad people are supporting the Wii. To me, it's the only console that's doing anything different this time around. I'm tired of great graphics and crappy gameplay. The Wii ensures everything is fresh. It might become old after awhile... but we'll have to see.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Those poor, poor, poor companies. How do their billionaire owners sleep at night knowing so much cess has has been pooled in their direction by fans of Nintendo. I'm really glad you bought this to my attention. I think its a bad ol' shame too and I promise I won't be so mean to the nice people at Sony and Microsoft.
- bertsisterwanda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7if someone bought me an HP printer for my Christmas, I don;'t know what I'd say, maybe you get me ink with that! Them Small Hp printers cost a small fortune to run, with a paper and ink sold in separates. Especially if you buy them from PC World.
Does Anyone one Digg ever buy anything from PC World unless there is an Urgent need for something? I would think everyone on digg is smarter than the average common electronic consumer. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I love when people hate what's popular just because it's popular.
Hate makes the world go 'round. Not money or gravitational pulls. - djrobo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Certainly helps get the word out.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh yeah, Nintendo's notorious for their products not working at launch. Always overheating, breaking down, scratching discs, deleting saves...
no, wait... not Nintendo. I'm thinking of the other one, uhm...
Everyone else, that's it. - Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If that is the case then it also proves that a majority of Digg users are also Wii fans.
I think a lot of people posting in the comments for this article are just very bitter that they are in fact a minority in not caring or liking the Wii. - KnightWhoSaysNi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The prices are in Pounds, not Euros.
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I agree, I am having so much fun with my DS as opposed to the PSP right now. No PSP game can touch Castlevania, and The New Super Mario Bros for instance. Both games look okay but the gameplay is excellent.
- paOol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5translation : omg i love the PS3 and since im a sony fanboy, everyone shoudl be one too. how can digg like the wii better? time to bash digg because sony fanboys are superior to everything
- GolfDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2too bad that story was debunked as fake sony propaganda...
- Leo21k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And in Japan they have vending machines that sell used panties... Anything's possible over there.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not in Japan:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/738/738630p1.html
JAPAN CHOOSES PS3 - zediker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"they still use pounds?"
Yes, because the Pound is still worth more than the Euro. Though there have been talks to make the Euro the national currency of Britain in order to reduce trade barriers. - smoreorless, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1http://astore.amazon.com/hotchristmastoys2007-20
- crapuccino, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4On a slightly different note, I was in Game the other day, and they had a heap of Wii merchandising around the place. Zippo on the PS3. It was really conspicuous by its absense.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3They have some really stupid things on that list, such as:
Logik Internet Radio - davidjames81, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0too bad cos its the same this year.
http://seasonsfavoritethings.com - styromaniac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I think people that won't even give Wii a try are f****** retarded. I bet if those kind of people heard of a person that was cool in a different way, they wouldn't want to know them at all because they're lame and shallow. Pretty much everyone that knows and loves the Wii are cool, I experience that firsthand.
- Dakoman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5and talking about words, i'm going to digg this because the submitter worded the entry so amazingly, well done sir!
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Never mind all the gamers describing it to nongaming relatives"
Yeah, I'm sure they did the same with the Gamecube and look where it ended up. The world isn't just suddenly starting to talk about games because a console got a new controller you know. - mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yes, because the only people who read Forbes and The Seattle Times are nerds and geeks. Never mind all the gamers describing it to nongaming relatives and watching them get interested.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Hey will shall see, we shall see.
Besides this article is in the UK not the United States or Japan, so there is no PS3 anyway. Of course Wii is #1.
There is no ***** competition. - VernonLloyd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well what do u expect, Nintendo have finally done their best to not only bring a console into the market which is for all ages, but one which is ready for launch and fully tested. 1 one year warrenty is very good and usually a fault on a new product will surface long before this.
This console is also good at attempting to allow users to move around while using, lets face it is potentially a console which will keep the kids active (if set up right) while playing games. - crapuccino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Absolutely. PC World? Only if I'm desperate, and I've already called all the local independent retailers.
- j10s, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No zune?
- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Wow this just proves any article with "Wii" in it will make the front page.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5The only people that have any clue what a Wii is, are internet nerds... the rest of the world, wants a ps3, not a controller they wave around in the air like an idiot to play a game with crappy gamecube style graphics..
- lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5the best way to make a christmas gift popular is to tell someone it's popular.
I didn't know about Furby or Tickle-me-Elmo 'til the media talked about them being the #1 christmas gifts - b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3EVERYONE shoudl be a Sony fanboy.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3@ lazydrumhead: that's kind of ironic because I'd never heard of PC World until I read this Digg article... but either way, I don't need them to tell me that the Wii is going to be a hot x'mas gift, I've already pre-ordered mine...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Well, the Wii is for children, so I guess this makes sense.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1they still use pounds?
Still its innaccurate as Digg is based in The United States, and therefore the article should read PC World UK puts Wii on top of Christmas list.
Digg is at a low point, soon the PS3s will be out, and the Wii's will be in the dark rooms. with their target audience. - NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2No, PS3 Is #1 on my wshlist. I can afford to buy a WII my self.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Um they are using the PC world from the uk(http://www.pcworld.co.uk/)
It is in their "related links, AND THE PRICES ARE IN EUROS
No ***** its not surprising, its the newest council to hit there and with no competition, other than 360's, which was most likely last years #1. - andy787, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7It's sad how digg has essentially turned into a user-driven marketing tool for Nintendo and Apple, and a hatred-spewing cess pool for Sony and Microsoft (Xbox-division aside). :/
What is Digg?
