Direct link - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -13/+156As opposed to instantly loading following the main logo when turning on the Gamecube? The video itself is cool, but I don't see any bragworthy lightspeed loading going on here.
- GhettOSTyO, on 10/12/2007, -38/+146it didnt seem super fast
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+89The Digg Effect - IT'S SUPER FAST!
- Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -23/+105I love it when companies impress me with a feature, then tell me that they are upset with themselves because they expected even BETTER from that particular feature.
Me: Hey that was pretty fast. Cool, i'm impressed.
Nintendo: Grrr.. Were sorry but we definitaly wanted it to be faster. We apologise.
Me: 0_0... I love you guys. - p2502, on 10/12/2007, -15/+70that's implying the PS3 will actually start....
- digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -17/+60cool, but it's not SUPER fast. the 360 has the same startup and load times. maybe even faster.
- musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43Atari 2600 ready to play as soon as power gets to the on position.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43ImTheDarkcyde uses Obscure Pokemon Reference!
Its not very effective... - MenthiX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41Did it load just as fast as the site went down?
- feaks, on 10/12/2007, -9/+43"They are so transparent and honest that they are not happy with startup times yet. Iwata had a goal of 3 seconds from pushing the power on the remote to game start. “We didn’t make it there yet unfortunately” he says honestly."
you can read more about it here : http://www.wii-volution.com/news/wii-media/wii-load-times.html - BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -15/+48***** Wordpress. It always crashes.
http://duggmirror.com/ - jonbon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+39uhh.. it's an exaggerated Wii demo, you could easily rest your arm on you lap and use your wrist. Do you see people doing that when they change the channel on their TV? think before posting..I hope your being sarcastic.
- horrorpunk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30while im still getting a Wii...
...i gotta say that im not really impressed by that - Husky217, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33Direct video link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3EQuyhfeTA - errorjustin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32@Feaks - what's neat is in that same interview they talk about improving boot times even further with a firmware update down the road.
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32@ iluvatar
Looks to me like the movie was 1:29 long...and it took that long to go through everything... - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Oh, please tell me I don't have to click through some "read the safety manual" *every* time I turn on the system! That is my biggest gripe about the DS. Every time you turn it on you have to click on the safety warning screen.
How about a setting that tells the system I'm smart enough to take responsibility for my own actions. Please? - MalaysianMafia, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26attack wordpress' weakpoint for massive damage.
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19You are good at counting sir, yay!
- jwasko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Here's the times, as I see them on the Youtube video:
1. Power Button Pressed-- Black Screen Warning = 00:03-00:10 = 7sec
2. Warning -- Home Screen/Channels Menu = 00:13-00:16 = 3sec
3. Disc In -- Recognize game = 00:26-00:42 = 16sec (a little long, IMO)
4. Game Recognized -- Wii remote screen = 00:53-00:58 = 5sec
5. Wii Remote screen -- Press Start Game Intro = 01:02-1:06 = 4sec
Total time: 35 seconds
Note: I cut out the time for button presses, so it may be slightly longer.
However, if the disc is already loaded and recognized, almost half the time is cut out. Also, I think that the screen showing a Wii remote is telling you to attach a nunchuck (note that one isn't attached in the video). This either means that a.) you can only attach the nunchuck at specific times or b.) this only appears if a nunchuck isn't already attached but is needed. If it's b., then already having a nunchuck attached would cut down the time by another second or two. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Wow. How surprising. A greatly exaggerated claim about Wii with a majority of people excitedly agreeing with it.
Come on, the Wii has many more good points than this. Fast startup, yes, but nothing noteworthy. My PS2 goes from disc insert to game start in the same amount of time. The DS Starts up instantly.
Not diggworthy at all. - warlord, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24My pc boots up faster than that
- nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@jonbon: Regardless, who wants to constantly press buttons to get to the main menu. It's like that warning on the DS. You get used to it, but prefer it not to be there.
- Ruffy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17i wasted 1:29 watching a slow console boot?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The Xbox 360 starts up, and boots games much faster than the Wii from what i can see from that video.
- martinj88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16It takes two button presses to get to the main menu.......1 power button, 2 A button to skip safety warning
also if the game disk was "already" in, it would boot directly into it in 10-15 secs at most because there would be no need to load the menu........
soo it's the same as every other console - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12And how could we forget the old tried and true NES and SNES?
Cartridge systems w/ solid state memory are still superior. I can't wait until they're making games on 20GB game cards again. Perhaps the NEXT generation gaming systems will.... - Omahyra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14gosh, the wii ui/menu's are sooo huge. but i guess that's for the young kids / dinosaurs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14using that sensor remote to do something "nimble" like clicking on buttons on the screen looks arduous
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14lol I hardly think a majority of the people are agreeing on it. I actually think a majority is disagreeing on it, but I think it's a bad representation anyways with the person starting it taking their sweet ol' time.
- overaction, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9The safety screens gets really annoying on the DS, but at least there's firmware to remove it... hopefully there'll be a way around it with the Wii.
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18Why is everyone who mentions that this doesn't appear to be very fast get dugg down?
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Not as fast as the PS3's sleep function, which works just like the PSP. Flick it on and you are instantly right where you left off within 2-3 seconds.
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Not overly fast, but I still can't get over how nice and simple and well designed the menu system is. Very clear, very easy to use and stylish.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11All that waiting, for such a hopeless interface? The PS3 takes roughly the same time and looks oh so much better.
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Slower than Gamecube. :|
- McTim, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16That didn't look too fast to me, but I was paying attention to it.
There's something magical about seeing the opening screen to a new zelda game. I went from not wanting a wii anytime soon, to salivating in about 15 seconds. - HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1030% faster then your leading disk based system!*
*not based on fact. - CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8is it as fast as my original nintendo?
can it beat 1 second (minus blowing in cartridges)
i love the wii, but anything longer than instantaneous is sloooow lol. - owenkun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13I think they dropped the ball when it comes to the startup process, and your comment exemplifies just why that is.
When you start a system you want, from a user interface perspective, some indication that it's actually working. Marketing people will also use this time to 'solidify their brand' (i.e. showing a logo or playing a little tone, or both).
Compare to the 360 (with the distinctive green 'X,' text and startup chime), the Gamecube's 'building block' type display or the PS2's Sony screen.
With the Wii you turn it on and...it blinks once? That's not a positive indication. Show me a logo or something. - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe at first, but I bet after 100 hours of playing Zelda it'll be second-nature.
- AndyVenus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Not fast. No where near fast imo. If anything its disappointingly slow.
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13It was 1:29 considering the retarded hand sat there to let you read the startup screens too... most people will be clicking through these things quickly, cutting at least a minute off that time
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It took from :27 to :42, so 15 seconds. From putting the game in and the title screen.
- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Super fast? You don't understand what you're talking about.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8gotta love how the web page takes 10 minutes to load ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Drive Into A Fence?
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"it's faster than all other recent disk-based systems."
It better be, as it uses old technology. 360 should be faster, too. - akshay626, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Why does nintendo need to put up that warning? I see it on the DS too. PS3 boot seems just as fast, and the interface looks much sexier.
