- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I think the reason it's #1 is because of all the stories that go "so my wife/mom/dad/sister grabbed the controller and had a blast!", which is revolutionary as far as videogames go. Nobody has those stories for Gears of War (great game), or any brand new fps with the latest souped up engine. Hardcore gamers (probably most people here) have their nose so close to the grindstone they don't see that there can be a bigger picture, if you just look. Nintendo is trying to see that picture.
- kob0724, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I knew every single one of them was a cover because the singing was ***** (I'M LOOKING AT YOU ***** ASS SINGER FOR FAT LIP! WAY TO COMPLETLY RUIN THE SONG FOR ME!)
- Capisano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10--How many of you knew those songs were actually being performed by cover bands and session players?
The "As Made Famous By" underneath each song title pretty much gave it away. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9eh not really into that much rock music, so guitar hero didn't do much for me
guitar hero was a very OBVIOUS game to make
especially after playing
donkey konga
ddr
and many others - Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Am I the only person that's annoyed at how people keep submitting the Kotaku blog posts, when it would be better to link to the content they’re talking about in the first place? They must love reporting their visitor counts to their sponsors.
Anyhow, it makes perfect sense that Sports should rank high, just for the fresh look at console gaming Nintendo has provided. - xerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8People do submit the actual article, but it doesnt get dugg because its not Kotaku.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8sports is not a compilation of tech demos. It is not a full game of any sport though.
- Mamesj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7www.m-w.com
look up "best" and "innovative"
Compare and contrast FTW - Jeffrey903, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think that Wii Sports is a major reason for why the Wii is so successful. I have a Wii and I absolutely love Wii Sports. Since it comes free with the already cheap console and is just a bunch of fun and simple games with very minimal instructions, it makes it great for playing with friends and anyone else, including those who have never played video games before.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7news to me....
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nintendo says 2007 there will be online. But it will probably be with the cursed friend codes system.
- treyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6May not be the most advanced game of the year, but it is definitely the most painful.
- xobecide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I get sore from Boxing... I'm a skinny guy from lack of actual working out, and my back muscles and arm muscles are getting really developed from playing boxing like 3 hours a day for the past week and a half. Maybe this is a new-generation of DDR?
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6My arm hurts from spanking my Monkey..... Ball.
Great game btw! - Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Working out the same muscle every day for 3 hours is a horrible way to build it
And a week and a half of even the most intense muscle workout won't really show much of a benefit at all.
You're probably just noticing the muscles are bloated after play, this is because they are full of blood, they shrink back down a couple hours later. - joepaterno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ TimDigg- Many great things seem obvious after they are shown to you.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Gamasutra"? Is this a credible award?
(Seriously, I don't know...) - jsully, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Virtua Tennis (any of the Dreamcast or Arcade flavors) is a better game than Wii Tennis.
- DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I try to submit the actual article whenever I can. I especially do this when I think that a site has a better description or more detailed information than the actual site.
I have only recently begun submitting Kotaku articles. In short I am not happy with the way they present them and will more than likely stop submitting their articles in the future. - mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok maybe thats why i've never heard of this one
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. It is currently on the verge of turning the gaming world upside down. That or it just a passing fad. We'll see.
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The vast majority of the covers are terrible. I would pay twice as much for the game to play actual songs, performed by the original artists.
- mkellogg999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They are also geared towards game developers, which, depending on who you are, could give them more credibility.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Elebits already has some online connectivity features, you can create levels and share them with friends.
- kidwei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I completely agree with this assessment. Wii Sports has been responsible for reinvigorating old, jaded gamers like myself.. and creating new gamers by drawing them with a very compelling, new, and accessible experience. It is truly groundbreaking. Just ask my wife, who played it for the first time last night and couldn't put it down.
- Mamesj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They are more credible than most game sites, imo. I don't feel like their opinions are filtered through ad-money.
- alamandrax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are there any plans on making the Wii a web connected console? (I have not the slightest clue about this btw)
it'd be great if you planned to meet with friends on-line and bowl together on their individual Wii's. Bowling teams competing over the net etc. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this, but got links? - lcohiomatty86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i dunno about you guys.. but im really looking forward to crysis..
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I'm gonna have to go with Gear of War on this one
everytime I play I'm in disbelief of how far modern gaming has come - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1MoCap Boxing, Mocap Golf >>>>>>>> Wii Sports
if they can come up with a boxing game as good as Mocap Boxing for wii I'll buy one - avize, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0You already know number one.Hardcore game has their nose so close to the grindstone they don't see this there can be a bigger picture, if you just look.It makes it great for playing with friends and anyone else.
Thanks a lot,

http://www.bid-directory.net - joepaterno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can we separate games from systems? Many of us are willing to concede that the Wii controller is innovative and it changes the way we play games. The games are fun but the game software itself is not what makes it fun. If anything the games are holding it back.
- Mamesj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1well, now you know. I'm sure those sites have all their minions digging their articles like crazy, even though they rarely put up original content.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Uhhhhh...No.
The wii is fun and all, but i mean...Come on, there were better games in 2006. - TheDude77, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I think they have their idea of "Important" a little screwed up.
- Mamesj, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Why did you link to a game blog instead of the actual site?
Attn world: Joystiq and Kotaku are not news sites. - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2You've gotta be ***** kidding me.
- Mamesj, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1So the basis for your argument is that the songs sound like their originals? What does that have to do with anything?
By the way, the singers for Sweet Child o' Mine, War Pigs, and Heart Shaped Box were all pretty far off the mark. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Hell no!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Gears of War is the most promising game...showing next gen graphics...amazing gameplay, and what the Xbox 360 can truly do
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4While I like the Wii, this is pretty sycophantic. If any game advanced "the state of the art of the industry" it was probably Guitar Hero. The design is not new, but the implementation was explosive. Quick poll: How many of you knew those songs were actually being performed by cover bands and session players?
- SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -25/+4It is great for the whole FamWii until the next fad comes out, and you are left playing it alone in your basement
