- gaapgod, on 01/06/2009, -2/+280I'd be interested to see the list of non-bundled best sellers.
- mattomondo, on 01/06/2009, -16/+211While it's nice to see how successful Wii Sports has become, a part of me is sad to see SMB bumped from the top spot.
- taxman, on 01/06/2009, -3/+144No, that would be the minesweeper (as long as we are counting bundles)
- drewsheldon01, on 01/06/2009, -23/+149Yeah, it's not a "real" game that you have to buy, it comes with the Wii.

1. Pokémon Red, Blue and Green (Gameboy) - 20.08 Million Copies Sold

http://www.gunslot.com/blog/top-twenty-five-25-bes ... - redskyformiles, on 01/06/2009, -9/+101how is it the best "selling"? it comes with the console.
- Jorlock, on 01/06/2009, -9/+99It's a very sad day when title's like "Carnival Games" and "Game Party" outsell a Metroid game.
- kickcows, on 01/06/2009, -19/+105Who knew bowling could be so much fun?
- legoalert33, on 01/06/2009, -3/+85Population growth.
- Frecklefoot, on 01/06/2009, -1/+83Yeah, because if we want to compare apples to apples, Windows Solitaire, Minesweeper and Freecell would be the best sellers several thousand times over.
- TenebrousX, on 01/06/2009, -2/+80Hence the comparison to SMB...
- Khast, on 01/06/2009, -13/+88SMB took from 1985 to 1990 to become #1
Wii Sports took from 2006 to 2008 to become #1
It did it in 1/2 the time????? - DrivebyGroper, on 01/06/2009, -8/+80Apparently you've never played Wii Sports.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+64Agree.I love Wii Sports, but come on SMB = legend.
- BrownManUPS, on 01/06/2009, -11/+65Man I always wonder how the hell Mario became such a hit...imagine the pitch meeting for the series:
"Hey check this out, I have a main character who is a plumber, the villin is a dinosaur, the princess will never ever be rescued because of subsequent sequals, Mario has to eat mushrooms to grow huge and gain extra lives, and collect coins that really have nothing to do with the game at all!"
Best acid trip ever. - Shuk, on 01/06/2009, -2/+51Also the breaking of the stigma that games are for kids or nerds with big glasses and pocket protectors, and the capture of the soccer mom market.
- barrakuda, on 01/06/2009, -3/+50...and "like Humans Do(Radio Edit)" by David Byrne is the top selling digital song of all time?
windows xp bundled music ftw - smoothmedia, on 01/06/2009, -4/+45Ya, they sure showed those suckers over at Nintendo who's boss!
- se1zure, on 01/06/2009, -3/+43Actually solitare would probably be the number one since we are talking bundles here... I wouldn't even consider wii sports a game, more like a demo disc.
- soccerman90, on 01/06/2009, -2/+42SMB was bundled too
- dvsbastard, on 01/06/2009, -1/+36Yeah, but the difference is I was still playing SMB for months (even years) after I first played it... Hell, I still play it now and then when I am feeling nostalgic...
- grow, on 01/06/2009, -1/+33The wii captured the everyone market.
- Paroparo, on 01/06/2009, -1/+32Highly accesible games sell better than niche games. Quality has very little to do with it.
It's not like this is a new phenomenon anyway. I wasn't especially pleased to realise a ***** 50 Cent game outsold Okami and Godhand *combined*. ;____; - TenebrousX, on 01/06/2009, -9/+38It's a very sad day when apostrophe's are used incorrectly.
- AdrianKRAZY, on 01/06/2009, -3/+32You mean they sell it?. I thought it came free with the console. A lot like the crappy ski boat game which came with my happy meal last week at Mc Donalds... Geee they must have given away 100 million + of those free ski boat games.
- MiserableTruth, on 01/06/2009, -8/+36It'll be interesting to see if WiiSports Resort can match these sales, bundled or not. The inclusion of the MotionPlus with each game should certainly bolster sales much as the inclusion of a remote boosted sales of WiiPlay, which oddly enough is what the Japanese get as there bundled game.
- pistonhonda, on 01/06/2009, -3/+31The list that doesn't include console tie-in sales is much different.
- tacochampion, on 01/06/2009, -5/+32What's the difference?
Had the playstation 2 been consistently bundled with a game, that would be in the top spot instead... - kkm3, on 01/06/2009, -1/+28I thought Minesweeper from Microsoft is the best selling game ever. Probably has 'sold' well over 500 million copies till now.
- PDAIsAOk, on 01/06/2009, -9/+36Someone didn't get a Wii for christmas.
- upick, on 01/06/2009, -12/+36I'm not a Wii fan but yeh I admit, I have been playing Wii Sports Tennis for the last week. Its so addictive. Such a simple game with no functions, but yet highly addictive.
- bearcat8543, on 01/06/2009, -3/+26sounds like we got a jealous xboxer/ps3 guy
- synwolf, on 01/06/2009, -3/+26Holy *****, Nintendo takes 6/10 top 10 positions
Remember when people were talking about how Microsoft and Sony were going to eat Nintendo alive? - damon5334, on 01/06/2009, -1/+24As I was reading the comments, I was thinking the exact same thing. If Wii Sports was $49, and didn't include anything except the game, I wonder if everyone would have bought it. I mean... I'm glad I got it bundled in when I got my Wii, but still... I feel like there should be an asterisk next to the numbers on this one.
- barrakuda, on 01/06/2009, -4/+26I'll pretend that's sarcasm and digg you up.
- pistonhonda, on 01/06/2009, -9/+30But Sony has no software talent, and that's been their problem. They're technical gurus with no imagination.
- sdphost, on 01/06/2009, -3/+24The original SMB was also bundled with the system.
- BJF9999, on 01/06/2009, -3/+23I bet that game would sell better than Wii sports
- ElChapusero, on 01/06/2009, -5/+25Is vgchartz.com a reliable source? They seem to pull many of their statistics from thin air.
- groo68, on 01/06/2009, -7/+26How fun it is doesnt matter, its paired with the console, you cant not buy it if you want the wii.
- SuperCujo, on 01/06/2009, -2/+21In Japan Wii Sports is not paired with the console, and yet it holds the record for the greatest sales of all Wii games.
- ohcoaster, on 01/06/2009, -4/+22while wii sports if fan-*****-tasticly fun, there's no ***** way it would've sold even half that if it wasn't bundled. imo.
- Kolbeck10, on 01/06/2009, -3/+20I'm embarrassed that you fail to realize that SMB came bundled too.
- skywake, on 01/06/2009, -3/+20@tacochampion lets do a fair comparison here for a bit.
Wii Sports is bundled in all regions but in Japan and yet has still sold almost 3.5million there. So to see how well Wii Sports has done on its own merits lets count how many games on the PS2 sold more then Wii Sports has in Japan.... we get one game, "Dragon Quest VIII" and not by a huge margin.
However you spin it, Wii Sports has done extremely well. - Tenareth, on 01/06/2009, -4/+20Yeah, they probably feel horrible about how much of a failure this game was...
I bet the team that built that game all got fired for doing so much harm to the company. - kinseyincanada, on 01/06/2009, -4/+19well it doesnt have a good story, it desnt have the best graphics, and it doesnt have online play. But it's damn fun and thats all that matters.
- coldkill3r, on 01/06/2009, -6/+21This is digg, the /s is mandatory.
- nebbo, on 01/06/2009, -1/+15Why are you ordering a happy meal?
- AdrianKRAZY, on 01/06/2009, -3/+16Agreed. This whole story is a load of *****.
- harryhill, on 01/06/2009, -31/+44Congrats to Nintendo!
