- primehifi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50As much as a wii fanboy that I am, this game looks neat, but from the video looks deathly boring.
- sKiLLa182, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38This will not be released under "Wii Sports". It's just labeled that way because this video is from the last E3 before Wii Sports was finalized. This game will probably be part of Wii Play or make up some new Pilot Wings game.
- LRoy12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Who wants StarFox Wii?
- critch74997, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32"Now that everyone has gotten their Wiis..."
*gives Daemonport the finger* - icealchemist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29If that was a stand alone game, I would never buy it. But if it was part of a new pilotwings game, I am all over that. :D
- fernando26, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Wii Pilotwings FTW!
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Put The King in the cockpit and sell it for $3.99 at BK.
- Koopa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Pilotwiings?
- monticello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I thought Diddy Kong Racing back in 1999 had cornered the "flying through rings" market, but boy was I wrong!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"no offense but flying through hoops hasnt been fun since 1996"
Disagreement over here. I had fun doing it in Rayman Raving Rabbids. - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I want F-Zero Wii!!! Imagine playing Death Race (from the 64 version) with the Wii-mote.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Looks like the airplane minigames in GTA:SA only uglier.
That's right, I went there...digg me down. - ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Just add bullets!
- falstaff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"flying through hoops hasnt been fun since 1996"
Mission to Mars kind of ruined the space exploration movie genre for a few years, but that doesn't mean the idea doesn't have merit.
Superman 64 kind of ruined the flying through hoops game genre for a few years....
But seriously, the Wii is well suited to these kind of compilation titles (if that's what this will be in), like Wii Sports and Wii Play. To really attract non-gamers, the games have to be quick, intuitive, and fun for a few people to play against each other. If there were a good multi-player mode for this, and were packed in with 4-5 other quick-n-easy games, it would be a smash hit. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This isn't Pilotwings. Pilotwings would deserve better than this.
WS: Airplane... This is likely part of Wii Motor Sports, which is coming out after Wii Play. Wii Play is a compilation of real life games like Ping Pong, Billiards, Fishing etc. Lounge games/Recreational hobbies. A plane game wouldn't fit into that compilation either. - freakydingo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I agree w/ primehifi and icealchemist. Game looks crazy boring but would be fun on a package like wii sports.
What's with the seagulls, btw? - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why are people modding me down?
Look on ign, this is part of wii motor sports. - Argle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Although it looks kinda boring, the controller definitely makes it more fun thatn it looks. There is a similar mini-game in Rayman Raving Rabbids, and it is a very fun experience. Surprisingly so.
Although I think the wiimote should be held straight up like the actual control stick in a plane, as opposed to being made to mimic the tilt of the plane itself. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9This is actually wii motor sports.
- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Reminds me of Nights into Dreams for Saturn.
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sorry but this game looks amazingly boring.
- n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope that these new Wii games are priced well, because I would have a hard time spending $50 for Wii Sports
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8To all who say "Looks boring" look up Pilotwings.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CJ?
- Smigge87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not sure if it's already been said, but I think a nifty way to use the Wii remote would be to put one end on a table or flat object and use it as a joystick. Or maybe a flight sim game will come with a little joystick base to plug the remote into.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wow, nothing about that game looks exciting. Speed it up 4x and you might have something. I would hope there are higher (faster) levels.
- ShakeWell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree that it doesn't seem like the best implementation of the motion controls. Seems a joystick (even the little nubby ones on game pads) would still be better at flying planes. I'm a fan of the Wii and many of its games and how the Wii-mote is used in them, but this doesn't seem very intuitive at all. Maybe it's more fun than it looks, doubt it, but I guess i'll wait and see what comes of this.
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Totally agreed. That would be a much more natural use of the controller, rather than holding it like a dart. I hope they do something similar with star fox,
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I played this at E3...it is just a simple game where you move around the controller. I might pay one dollar to buy it, but that is all.
- 0gleth0rpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It does look like it'd get dull quickly. Anyway, what's with the latency of the control? Seems like there's a 0.5s delay between his movement and the response.. works okay for a game like this, but how about more intense games?
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The part i hated most about GTA:SA was the flying lessons...guess who will never even contemplate buying this.
- bokchoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That would be the best idea for this game, I was expecting some really awesome control scheme at the end of the video but it was pretty basic. The game actually looks pretty lame from what I saw and wouldn't pay for it if it was a standalone game. I mean come on, flying through rings.
Until the control scheme gets some kick to it, it just seems like a lame game barely tapping the potential of the Wii controller. - rejectpenguin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I highly doubt this game would be able to sell by itself... It looks incredibly boring no matter what controller.
- danqueca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, it looks like Harry Potter, when you are playing quidditch
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2EB games has Wii Play as bundled with an additonal Wii-mote. For $50 its worth it alone to pick up the game because its really only an $10 after the price of the remote. I'm going to be preordering that sucker this week.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love all of these Nintendo games. Some are hard, and there are some like this where you just chill out for a while. They're still tricky, but very calming.
- billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Watching that clip... put me into a trance. This looks like a really fun game to play and chill out to! Less-intense games have their place too, people!
P.S. Do a barrel roll! - jedimasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can someone tell the poster to check his calendar? It's November. I KNOW I'm not the only one who saw this back in May... either when it was posted on YouTube originally or after playing it ourselves at E3. This was a tech demo, nothing more. The concept could be rehashed into something more engaging (i.e. PilotWings), but there were several pseudo-titles at the expo including a duck hunt look-alike (yes i'm aware of the duck-hunt for the virtual console, but this was different) and a VS. obstacle course that tested your hand-eye coordination as you maneuvered a chalk-outline of a man through moving gears, around walls and collected stars to make it to the finish line first. It won't be a title, but it demonstrated the accuracy and sensitivity of the remote.
Besides the same could be said for the PS3 and for a launch title of all things: Warhawk. Same concept only with machine guns and missiles. It was fun for about 5 minutes, swooping up and down with the control, but it got old and incredibly repetetive quick. - Zedtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nintendo is probably aiming this at those who aren't the hardcore-type gamer. Look at all the press around the Wii and how it is appealing to mass audiences of all ages. The selected game for those trials is 99.5% of the time Wii Sports. I'm guessing for those who aren't necessarily the hardcore gamer (or a gamer at all for that matter), but want something thats different and intuitive, this is a game for them.
Lets just hope it comes out at some kind of reasonable price (say $29.99-$39.99) as opposed to the price of a standard game. - Pirkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet Game! I still play it..
- pheedback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didnt watch the whole video, but i can see how the gameplay can be used for Starfox on the Wii.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I bet that game would be kewl after i smoked a bowl.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no guns, no digg
- Aldrenean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow... that landscape is straight out of Katamari Damacy.
- saegiru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NiGHTS would be freaking wonderful on the Wii. The Saturn controller with analog was great for flying back in the day, but now that the Wiimote is around, I think it is definitely time for more NiGHTS.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Regardless of how it's coming out, I think the game sorta resembles and would do well to borrow more from my favorite PS2 Game: Sky Odyssey.
- nicksource, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Can you do a barrel roll?
- FarcePest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And here I was hoping it was a movie adaptation.
We have clearance, Clarence.
Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Oh stewardess, I speak Jive.
By the way, does anyone know how to fly a plane?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080339/
Best movie to watch while waiting for your flight. - UkranianTractor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought the graphics looked good. But then I think Wii Sports looks good. Horses for courses I suppose.
