- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Nintendo is win.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42I've got a friend whose mom bought a Wii - for herself. He hasn't gotten a chance to play it, yet, since she's been playing nonstop...
It's funny. - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36"Newsflash: American gamers were dumb enough to buy 3.1 Million white gamecubes for $250 just because they thought nintendo was cool."
And those millions of people are having a lot of fun. - raiderj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26And they'll probably sell another 3 million before I can even find one locally!
- NorCal05, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Wow...Nintendo really pulled off a nice one. Record sales using last gen technology. Even my girlfriend, who isn't fond of my Xbox360, says we should get one. AND they make a profit on every unit sold.
- celestial, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28wii win
- nsharp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Beat that, Sony
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22@GfxWench: Nintendo sold 80% of its target in 2006. What percentage did Sony sell?
*crickets chirping* - tcoop25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"Newsflash: American gamers were dumb enough to buy 3.1 Million white gamecubes for $250 just because they thought nintendo was cool."
And those millions of people are having a lot of fun....while PS3 owners desperately wait for more patches to fix a system that should have not had the problems in the first place. What is the PS3 up to, 1.5 now? In how many months? YAY for paying too much to play video games! - tcoop25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16lol, GfxWench has posted 7 times so far screaming that Wiis are available at sears.com. Sorry. They are sold out.
Sony, is that you? - VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16go away troll.
- cazoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15i wiigret nothing!
- mclumber1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I think Nintendo wanted to ship 4 million before the end of the year. This is contrast to selling 3.19 million. Shipping and selling are not the same.
- ArekRashan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@GfxWench
Stop spamming about Wii being available at Sears.com. They are not available there. The website says they are available, but if you actually attempt to purchase one - you'll find that it's sold out. - EDmAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Sounds like someone's really pissed that Wii sells so fast. What's it to you GFXwrench? Sony not selling as fast as you'd like boo hoo.
- ffingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12alright, i want to see how someone is going to put a bad spin on this....let the PS3 fanboys sit on this for awhile....
- romainechester, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Wii = essence of gaming
- evilesttoast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13A lot of non-gamers are dying to get their hands on a Wii. Even my mom wants one even though I'm the big N fanboy in our house.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"I think Nintendo wanted to ship 4 million before the end of the year. This is contrast to selling 3.19 million. Shipping and selling are not the same."
Yeah, Sony is shipping, while Nintendo is selling. You're right, it's not the same. - EDmAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Hey GfxWrench thanks for letting us know there are Wii's at sears.com. Gonintendo just posted it and I bet they last like 2 minutes when people figure it out. Wii is sold out everywhere when not sold in a bundle man, just face it.
- deweller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11#1 - price. I am not a hard-core gamer. So to me, shelling out $400+ for an XBox 360 is just not something I'm going to do. $250 is what I am willing to pay.
#2 - innovation. Sure Wii Sports doesn't shine in the graphics department. But I have never played any video game at home that comes close to bowling with a Wiimote. Traditional controllers just can't compete. And the graphics don't get in the way of the fun for me.
#3 - gameplay. For me, Nintendo games are just fun. I enjoy the puzzles and storyline of a game like Zelda. It has its own flavor and I just like it. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Of course the PS2 outsold, it's $130 system w/ a huge selection of great titles and a pretty good looking future lineup still, including GoW2.
PS3 sales numbers weren't as high as the Wii, but more likely it was due to production numbers and prohibitive pricing as opposed to indifference by gamers. As I said in a previous, Wii is less than half the price and has a large amount of hype surrounding it, even now that we're past Xmas. We're also in an age of false family values, which puts Nintendo in a good light as a family console where everyone can gather around the TV and bowl without worrying about excessive smokers and drunks at the local alley. I know personally I have a lot of fun with my kids playing Wii Sports and Rayman in multi.
I'm not going to dump on the PS3, it's been done and I think it's been overdone, but Sony gambled quite a bit throwing in a next-gen HD video player that put their next-gen console out of reach of a lot of current PS2 owners. I personally would not pay $500-$600 for a game console or a Blu-Ray player, and I have an HDTV. Call me when Blu-Ray players are sub-$100 and we'll talk. I think a lot of people probably feel that way. - tcoop25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Add it to your cart. Then click check out. Get this message:
"Alert: We're sorry. The item(s) and/or quantity you had in your cart are no longer available. This item out of stock. See Similar Items. This item will automatically be removed from your cart." - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I waited on line for a Wii at Best Buy for over 3 hours (it was 20 degrees out here on LI). It was completely worth it. Unfortunately, I can't get my (non-gamer) sister off it.
- rewquio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Every system is like that, I promise. I've had 18 of them. (That's the first time I've ever counted them up!) If you're lucky, there are a few good games at the beginning, then it takes a while before there are more that come out that you will like. You seriously have to give it a year before you know for sure. But so far, the Wii has been my favorite console.
- sdphost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10oh god, the puns!
make them stop. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Places to buy the PS3:

Or you could just go on EBay and pick one up. I count about 75 PS3s that have sold at or below retail price in the last 24 hours.

While not every game my pander to you, there will be enough of the different types with its market share that you will have fun with Wii
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh the GameCube supported SD cards? Had a full GUI/menu system? Online built in with wireless? The various channels and such? Virtual console and ability to play past games? I never knew! Hey everybody, we're wasting our money buying the GameCube all over again!
If you don't see value in the Wii, fine, but to continue calling it nothing but a GameCube with a new controller only shows your ignorance. You're only missing out on a ton of fun for a measly $250, but suit yourself. - McLumpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@GfXWench
Stop saying words. - mclumber1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That is exactly what is great about it: the controls. The controls are revolutionary in the way we play videogames. It makes games more active, interactive, engaging, and fun. This is why the Wii is selling out everywhere.
Nintendo has proved many times in the past that better graphics do not necessarily mean better sales. The gameboy was technically inferior to the Gamegear, but it was able to kill Sega's handheld because of the games. Same is true with the DS. Likewise, the comparatively powerful N64 and Gamecube didn't have as good of sales as their underpowered rivals (PS2, PS3) because of software. - RhythmGuru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What do you mean "other than the control?" That's the basic reason why it's so popular! My mom can pick it up and play it! She looks at the PS2 controller like "whaaaaa????"
An innovative and original control scheme can make up for "last gen" graphics, and if used properly by developers, make for a great game.
Personally, I like the ability to play the old games on one system, without having to switch discs or cartridges all of the time. I like the graphics, they are better than XBOX and PS2, and for MUCH cheaper than next gen. If I want that, I'll play 'em on my PC. I like the ability to play flash games over the net on the TV, etc. I know that the PS3 and XBOX 360 have the same capabilities, but I repeat, PRICE!
This is a serious answer... - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They are still very hard to find locally. I tried to this past Sunday.
First I went to Target at 7:30 (they open at 8). They had 41, I was number 42.
So I went to Best Buy. It didn't open until 11 and there was already a line. I waited and got a Wii. It was completely worth it.
And for the record, I would have ordered it online had I known Sears had them in stock. - oifish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Nintendo to Sony and Microsoft: "All your base are belong to us."
- debtman7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10They did something right... My wife, who never plays games even fun ones I try to get her to play, insisted we put the Wii in the living room instead of the computer room so that she'd have easy access to it...
- idntunknwn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Some people choose to block trolls. I prefer not to, I get a kick out of their obsessive need to post idiotic rants. Check out GfxWench's profile, he obsessively makes comments about the PS3.
- sibhod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I will make it 3,190,001 if I can just ***** find one...
- bdorry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7While they might have missed their target, they came much closer to hitting it than Sony did.
Also, unlike Sony, they aren't missing sales targets because their system isn't selling.
edit: ethergnat2 beat me to it - KyjL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Huge blocks of text = failure at the internet
- Hortnon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@GfxWench
Do you trol- ..."comment" for any other reason than to get angry at people that don't like PS3? - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6And--despite having shipped far fewer consoles--the PS3 is available online at CompUSA, Sams Club, Circuit City, Toys R Us, Overstock, and Wal-Mart. I also know of at least three places in town where they are in stock, and have been for weeks. Over the holiday many said the Wii was outselling the PS3 only due to shortages. Now that supply is starting to catch up to demand I wonder what the excuse will be when the Wii is still outselling the PS3 by a wide margin.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Gfxwench, It is _impossible_ for Sony to sell more than Nintendo, just because of the quantity produced. For every PS3 that can be sold, 3 Wiis can. And they are selling.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Fatality...........
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yep, it is sold out at Sears.com already. Doesn't the GraffixWench look like a douchebag now? Go back to that bridge you live under, troll.
- Salmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I finally got a Wii last Friday. Every time I go shopping at or near a store that sells them I check. They are never in. Well this time it's 7pm and I see one lonely little Wii sitting there and I rush to the electronics counter and get in line behind a customer. I ask the guy if they have any available and he says there's one left.
Well we walk to the display, and the wife notices this kid running at the clerk. He had seen the last Wii and asked him if there were any more, to which he replied, "This was the last one".
The guy had this really sad look on his face, and said "You're probably going to buy that aren't you." I'm thinking, um... yeah, I got it out of the display for a reason bud, but just said yes. He then said something about bad timing and I agreed and went to purchase it. I should have flagged him down and sold it to him for whatever he was willing to give me, but my point is they are still very hard to find, at least in Iowa. - celestial, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8hey get back to work
- ArekRashan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@GfxWench:
Wii is not available at Sears.com. Their web-store just hasn't updated the availability information on the product listing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@almightystoph
come on the joke's getting old - AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Get Link to the Past, best game ever.
- gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6exactly. the new controller is what the gaming industry needed. now Need for Speed is actually fun again.
