- dankoleary, on 10/12/2007, -9/+41Speaking of fleshed out, I can't wait to load up Pornotube on the bigscreen. YAY for boobies!
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Correction: he probably runs several sets of DNS tubes to get interweb access on the Playstation Wii.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26"WTF do you want to browse the web with a Wii for anyway? Just use a computer, it's a hell of a lot easier."
A. It's easier to group browse on a big TV in the living room than it is crowded around a small computer monitor in an office.
B. Streaming video from YouTube and other sources.
C. Playing Flash games with the Wiimote.
D. Playing Flash games with the Wiimote (yes, I'm excited enough to list it twice) - Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I'll be ready to go to http://www.wiicade.com when its out!
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Finally! (If real) I'll be interested to see how fleshed out it is.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I hope your 600 dollars was well spent
- fanatic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Very interesting thing. Opera is actually the best browser for PC... will it do the same for WII?
- SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Perhaps some other component of the Wii uses a stripped down and modified version of Opera. Maybe for the Wii Shop?
- xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16And where did the write of the blog get his information from? It has been confirmed that EUROPE will be getting the Opera browser on Dec. 23. So, I ask again, where did he get his info from?
Here is an article on the European release date confirmation:
http://www.1pstart.com/opera-brower-release-date-for-europeus-release-coming-sooner/ - seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The box has the opera logo located in the corner. My guess is that something wasn't quite finished in time for release?
- warbird, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14How is this inaccurate? it says its anounced on the swedish page, and it doesnt say north america anywhere. It's accurate for everyone in europe. The world doesnt revolve around the US
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Don't hold your breath.
- CrasyMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Thanks for expressing that concern.
The writer forgot that it was shut down by Nintendo a while ago. I'll pass on the message.
Anyways...back to discussion about the browser and the Wii eh? I'm pretty sure the writer knows what he's talking about and he runs several lines. He did it...himself.
Probably a different way of doing the hack. No worries - will-rom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11http://www.wiicade.com works at work behind Websense as well!!!!!!! Curve ball oh how I've missed you.
- psycx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well I am sure that CrazyMike will apologise for not providing US specific coverage.
- scratched, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My guess is that the Opera engine is already being used to render the Wii shop page (which would explain why the Wii Shop could be used as a browser at one point)
Nintendo just hasn't unlocked the feature for web browsing yet for whatever reason... - xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I would much rather be playing Zelda and have no browser for now that have a browser and be forced to play sh*t like Gundam.
- jimmys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's a Festivus miracle!
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@seneyr - If the logo is on the box I would assume it won't cost anything to add it?
- mrcrazy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Why isn't this installed already on the Wii? Well I am glad it is coming soon.
- xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Who are you kidding, sure it does. Now have another hamburger and fries :)
- raindogmx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How about keyboard? Can one be connected to the Wii?
- KevlarRelic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Way to use the automatic essay generator.
- worbd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Are you for real? Of course Opera supports JavaScript!
- critch74997, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok, ANYONE can download the browser once it's released for free anytime until June. Once June hits, if you have already downloaded the browser, then you never have to pay.
If you don't download it till after June, you'll have to pay. - MrObjectional, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5At least when I posted a version of this story a week ago, I bothered to note that no confirmation had been made for anywhere outside of Sweden.
- dmccrindle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The software is free (allegedly) until June. After that you'll need to purchase Opera with Wii Points (just like VC games). They won't charge you to use the internet... just the browser itself.
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So basically anyone who buys a Wii after June will have to pay for the browser. Gotcha.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.wiifii.net has a flash game channel to emulate the Wii Interface. I wonder if the cursor will take the shape of a custom cursor in flash (for aiming, etc). Also, do we know if the d-pad works as the arrow keys? If not then the flash games will all have to be point and click.
- Aggort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd say yea, but you'd have to somehow map the buttons, wouldn't you? Or does game-oldies support joysticks now?
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2internet games + wiimote.
i guess we can just hook the wiimotes to our computers....
Not sure what good it is for people like me who have media center pc's and wireless keyboard/mouse hooked up to the tv... XD - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Currently you cannot use a kb/mouse on the USB ports, lets hope that changes in the future. I sometimes find it difficult to use the on-screen kb with the Wii remote.
It would be ideal if Nintendo implemented some Bluetooth kb/mouse drivers into an update, but I am not holding my breath. - Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4SirThom hit it on the nail, the wii shop uses a stripped down Opera browser.
- Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Marked as duplicate. This has been up on digg several times since NoS announced it.
- Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2creepy.. thats when my last day of work is.
so i can go home.. and go online with my wii....
i smell a dirty joke in there somewhere. ill have to work on it
"Now i can look at porn on my wii"?
naw, too easy.
"Dont want my Wii to get a Virus"?
takes too much thinking to translate "Virus" to "STD"
"Now i can sit with my wii pointed at the TV and go anywhere in the world"
hrm. too long (heh)
"Now i can post on Digg with my Wii"
perfect! - CrasyMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah right I will
I can deal with a little crap now and then but come on. - CrasyMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hellmark, I've never seen it here yet and there was no reports of it being a duplicate when I submitted it.
- Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1better one!
"Now I can surf for a job on monster.com with my Wii" - CrasyMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And I just learned something new about Digg.com
Cool, thanks - CrasyMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://acforums.megadoomer.com/viewtopic.php?t=104964
The site may be down. I can't get the article...
However I posted a small part of it on this site earlier. Last post of that page(unless someone posts again) - Synth3t1c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Wii_Opera_Software_Dated_December_23rd/
its on duggmirror - WalterTre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.game-oldies.com will make their site compatible
- fanatic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If you read it, there's written... "We are not sure if this is valid only for Europe, it could have be made for Sweden only". So what? :)
- thealliedhacker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It doesn't have everything... you know, like, maybe a USER INTERFACE would be nice...
Basically, you're getting the UI and flash support I guess. - Lobut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@nanboya
Nope it's pay for everyone after June or whenever. - worbd, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Why Firefox? Firefox uses too much memory and computer resources to run on Wii. Opera is the best at working everywhere :)
I've ditched Firefox in favor of Opera on my PC too. It's much faster and doesn't bog my PC down. - imlikewoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2If it is released in Sweden only it wont be long until someone comes up with a workaround to download it from the states.
- MattBoom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Once the browser is released, can't we just visit http://game-oldies.com/ and play all of the virtual console games free? Does the Opera Wii browser support javascript?
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Useless if you have to pay to use it for surfing? I keep seeing comments about "free until June"... Clarification, anybody?
- xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8Buried for innacuracy. The european date for their browser is Dec. 23, there hasn't been any reports that the US date is Dec. 23 as well.
