- RomulusX86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27He's not releasing the source code :(
- evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Who would even need to download this? It does nothing. Hell, a screen shot of the Wii menu would suffice.
- Ransomowris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Made by a teenager, and you can tell if you read this wiki.
I pity my generation. - Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I'd recommend these for duel [sic] booting: http://www.everythingweird.com/images/kiss-boots_48.jpg
- Paperthin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Why does he sound like he's dying or something?
- Dreamtwister, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Looks very cool...dugg...but I give it 5 more days before the author receives the cease and desist (assuming they find him first). Good find.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10um holding the camera?
- b33b3s, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yeah, thats pretty cool, kindda makes me wish I had a Wiimote/Bluetooth
- joltjake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10wtf is the point of this, it doesn't do *****.
- iotadeltaphi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Not the real wii OS image... not even a real OS... but still a neat idea. +digg
- Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For the kid who recorded those youtube vids on the wiki:
***** jesus tapdancing christ. GET A TRIPOD YOU NOOB. At the very least, set it on something that doesnt wiggle! - spookyttws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thats exactly what I thought.
- z-kitsune, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You know, I was expecting something that wasn't a half-assed attempt at tomfoolery and shenanigans. I simply cannot believe that you had ever contemplated posting this. It boggles the mind. I mean, you don't even have rounded edges on anything. Did you use paint...? jesus christ.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"A-yund look what hayupins when I click rey-ud stee-uhl... har har har."
- paulcooper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Oh yeah, because I'd love to download some program written by a high-schooler and just run it. Security holes? Memory leaks? Malicious code? Why would he write it for free as a side project and not release the source code? Embarrassed perhaps? Then i don't want to risk it.
Can you please just think before you say something so stupid? - flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Am I the only one that is amazed when people spend time (sometimes LOTS OF TIME) creating something for a computer, and then show it off by holding a camera in one hand and doing everything with the other. Use a tripod, stack books on a chair, tape it to a wall etc.
Mind boggling, seriously. - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So what exactly IS this?
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4^ I bet all the people that dugg me down don't even know what a void pointer is.
Visual Basic is NOT a serious programming language. - steban, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's not really about the load, but your bandwidth bill!! Just wait and you will see..
- faz9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The title is a wii bit misleading
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, he sure does. Remember when Digg V3 first came out and there was a video by some kid claiming he'd found a "glitch"? This reminded me of that.
- MasterWizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...or get a wii
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can't stop playing this over and over just to listen to the kid's voice.
"As you can see I got the wii memumble mumble mumble. Purdah. Clothly rehmbles the i tried to make it as cloth ath i could, med graphics myself. includin the lil buttins right DER and DER!" - paulcooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This would be great if it were written by someone who knew something about making programs/os's.
All this does is put a Wii like interface on top of running old games in emulation. He did not right the wiimote stuff, he just used it.
Now what would _really_ be cool is to take the linux kernel (or a light-weight distro) and embed the wiimote stuff into, so it had native support. Port the emulators to linux and run with it.
Perhaps reverse engineer the wii some so you could also build the wii market into the OS as well. - davi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this is a stupid and useless program
don't do nothing great, just a lot of images and sounds
this is supposed to be a frontend? - utkwes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, yes he did use Paint, he said so.
- chinpo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does anyone know what language this is in? I don't want the source, but I would like to try and replicate it.
- Nitro187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mooninite: I dugg down your first comment, because this is not an operating system, it's a front end program... to make it simple to open other programs in. Visual Basic is FINE for a program like this. However, I dugg up your second comment, because you're right... Visual Basic is just a glorified script editor, not a real programming language.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can assure you, a lot of people here could "do something better" than this. But why? A cheap novelty?
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was much cooler in youtube-video form :(
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This was awsome untill I learned that:
-Its not open source, how lame
-He used MS Paint
-Its actually just a bunch of crappy images put into a wii esque interface, combined with a glovepie script. Yippee. - MasterWizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just trust me, it works
eurgggg ::dying noises:: - fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stop bitching: this kid did something that took some time and effort and built something he thought was fun. Everyone complaining that he used Paint, that it only runs in 800x600, that it is not FOSS should take a step back and breath. Some 17-25 year old built something he thought was fun and cool. Kudos to him -I'm glad it made the front page.
( -*****. I love FOSS: the fact that I feel the need to mention it says something about the nature of some of the comments here. I wish Digg were a place where everyone could have a few ideals and still appreciate other people's ideas.)
(edit: spacing) - sierracharlie, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1good find http://NEWYOUPRO.INFO
- sphetr2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google 'mamewah' 'GameEx' 'AtomicFe' 'Game Launcher', etc.
All of them are Frontends that will do what you're saying. - sphetr2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's called a frontend, they have TONS of them and most have WAY more features than this.
GameEx would be much better for an entertainment center. - ErifNeerg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea, I don't get that considering WiiLi is supporting him.
- Kickersny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article inspired me to see how much it would cost as I had been toying with the idea of picking one up just to see what I could do with it, development-wise. Turns out, a wii remote and sensor bar can be had (new) for only $49.99 USD... It's very tempting...
- sphetr2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A frontend. There are others, google "frontend".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6why the ***** are you all bitching about him not releasing the source code? take what you can get, jeez, i mean.. you even bitch about free stuff
- StudlyChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't worry about these Idiot's John. What you did is Awesome thanks for Sharing!
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow. that's pretty retarded. glad i wasted my bandwidth downloading that.
/sarcasm - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I was really excited to use this as a neat way to organize my roms, but in its current state it doesn't actually do anything. As a beginning programmer, I at least can appreciate that he made this, instead of bitching about how it's not "good" enough for being a free, alpha release.
- cptn_cardboard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its not really "real"
its just a program that acts like the wii
but the popup messages are funny - DeathBecomesYou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Contemplated posting what, a mirror? Sure I did, the OP poster suggested it might be necessary in the comments.
Like I said in another post "the site itself is still under development", so if you went to the main page of the website expecting something nice (you wouldn't find it)... However, I bet you got a good scare seeing that. lmao (it actually was done in paint by a friend, so you were right on there.) - picto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody else feel like stabbing their eyes out after watching that video? It's a neat idea, but Jesus that dude was annoying. He quite honestly sounded like the old man pedophile from Family Guy.
"I made most of the images myself. My friend was like 'What do the 1 and 2 buttons do?' and I couldn't just them do nothing...so I made a music player."
B.F.D......pass - themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not release the source code. Just say: "give me credit" and "dont make money off of it..... unless I get 80%"
- wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RomulusX86: That doesn't appear to be a bad thing. Looking at his comments, I'm guessing it's a hacked together piece of software, and it would be better off to start from scratch. The only part that the open source community misses out on are the graphics, which are nintendo's, and can't be redistributed because of that fact anyway.
- wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's a windows program that looks kind of like the Wii's interface, and will start up SNES/NES/N64/GC emulators when you click on the button corresponding to a game.
- seven5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@paulscooper:
uhh yeah, we dont need a whole os. This could be a great little application that is run IN an os. It would be just a simple frontend to emulators. You could use an old shuttle pc case, and set it in your entertainment center. Run this app, and let the wii remote interface with it to choose your games, and the app would launch the appropriate emulator corresponding to the rom you chose.
This fills a much needed gap in that arena. Usually you have to launch an EMULATOR and choose your ROM. It whoudl be the other way around, just pick a game and have it start! -
