- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45How unrealistic...
A REAL cat would rather just sit and watch you fumble around with the News Channel without caring to offer any help ... napping and dreaming about being bigger than you so it could eat you.
Should've been a dog... or maybe a cordial sasquatch with a bow tie. - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36I found it hilarious that one of the top stories was the "hold your wee for a wii" fiasco.
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Do you have the console like...in front of your face or something? How on earth did a soft blue glow wake you up early??
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Same reason I burn cds, make music, read digg, photoshop, torrent, and do so much else on my porning thang. Because I can.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29At least you wouldn't read a "Will it Blend??!" at the end of the Wii news story.
- theLephty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22It only took one system update for me (less than a minute) and then a small download when I opened the news channel (with a clicky kitty!), which also took less than a minute. Sweetness.
- Digg4all, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21tizz66, yeah I know, I didn't realize it was that bright since I have only seen it on during the day.
And yeah, the console is right across my small excuse of a room at eye level right next to the alarm clock.
I don't sleep well unless I know my mii are safe. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Since the Wii is capable of displaying Flash, I really hope that at some point, they expand this and offer video news clips too.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It would have been better if you didn't spam, too.
- brombie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15It would be cool if the channel updates itself fairly often and inserts the latest news into the slideshow while it's in play mode. It'll be like CNN Headline News minus the ads and annoying ticker. I bet it does.
Nice job with the interface, Nintendo. The Globe is also nicely leveraged here. We should pass a law allowing only Apple, Nintendo, and TiVo to do UI designs from now on. - nebunezzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The top story under the tech heading was the Euro PS3 launch. I guess it's news, but funny from the wii.
- DPimp1262, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I am very impressed and I have to say. It's nice to finally have my wii fully up and running. Having the news channel sitting there every day just screaming out to me "nope not ready yet!" always bothered me. Now my wii is perfect! well not really but it's even sweeter then it was yesterday.
- homersaysdoh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Am I the only one who gets giddy when I see my wii glowing?
- zeejay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11A real cat would lay directly on the screen, if it could, completely blocking your view of the stories, demanding that you pay attention to it.
The concept of a "cordial sasquatch" does have merit, though. - uttles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That's pretty cool. I wish they'd let you add RSS feeds though.
- shortarabguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yay! A pleasant surprise for Wii owners...
This almost makes me feel bad for the PS3 owners... Almost. - moore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Who's forcing you to? Maybe some people do.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Having a map showing where news is happening is a great little touch. Good job, Nintendo.
- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well MY house has a hundred bafrooms.
- raynor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8if you don't like it just use the internet channel and google reader or any other online rss aggregator.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is not "any message board." This is digg. Just about anything that constitutes a link to something not related to the story or appears to be a promotional effort amounts to free advertising. Digg gets a TON of traffic, and make no mistake, digg users do not appreciate when others seek to take advantage of that exposure for free. On top of that, most of us have a serious aversion to online advertising as it is, considering most of it is intrusive and usually isn't selling anything we're looking for. Case in point, the only people advertising on digg should be digg's staff.
- displaynone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9no rss feeds? what's up with that?
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This update almost made me later for work this morning!
I love the globe feature! - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You know there's a setting to turn the glow down or off?
- mark_in_bc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's way better than I expected. I can sit quite a distance still be able to read in on a 32 inch LCD with component cables. I The globe function is great and I'm very please with the amount of quality content.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You mean your parents' house?
You mean two bafrooms?
NO!! IT'S MINE!! IT'S ONE HUNDRED!!!
Oh, and it's not a rumor, I downloaded the update and used the Wii News channel this morning. - arcticblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Skype/Vonage - Possible, but doubtful
Media Center - No.
Movies - Possible, but doubtful. Would make sense since the interface is full of "Channels"
Music - Possible. Actually you can already do this in the Photo Channel, but it's not ideal
Better Wii remotes - It's already good. Doubt they'd redesign it.
Second Life - No
WoW - Definitely No
And More - Yes - akuzemchak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I woke up this morning to the wonderful glowing disc tray, started to download the update, and then the power decided to black out... in the whole apartment. I hope that doesn't screw my system over or anything.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Click on the cats, they give you hints.
One told me that when I'm holding down the globe to spin, if you twist the wii-mote, the globe will twist too. - infectbda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was thinking this would be sort of lame, but the interface is actually really great. And I love the text sizing effect! And the globe with stories stacked up. But what's with the cats all over the place again?
- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4if a blog is dugg, it becomes a blogg... or perhaps a blugg
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5blogs has one 'g'
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He's posting with his wind up $100 laptop and windup router
- Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@HMTKSteve: We had the same problem here. We were so excited when we saw the glowing disc light that we both plopped down infront of it. Now my husband is racing to make up for lost time. The globe was just too fun!
I wonder how many people across North America will be late to work/school today because of this. ;) - Mufflegrump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Cats were worshiped as Gods in ancient Egypt...and they have *never forgotten*
- razordancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I considered making myself late for work to check the blue glow... I decided not to, and when I walked out the door there was a dead cat on my porch. Disposing of the body kind of ruined my morning, and made me late for work anyways.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd check the blue light, since that would've given me a bit more happiness to balance out what happened next. - ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They're not going to block news that's negative towards the Wii and, well, pro I guess towards the PS3. I do agree it's rather ironic, though.
- Rabbethan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm in love with the pulsing blue light I saw in the morning.
- pdiddle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mine didn't glow :( And I've been stuck on the downloading screen for the last 20 minutes. Nintendo done got dugg'd ya'll.
- jonasblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The way the zoom enlarges and rearranges the words in a story is neato.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4And based on what I've seen of Office 2007, Microsoft too ;)
I think it'd just be easier passing a law saying only good interfaces are allowed. - Digg4all, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6normally I would have been really excited for a new update, but the damn blue flashing woke me up two hours early this morning. grrr... Thanks Nintendo.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's your friend code? I promise not to send you messages in the middle of the night! No, really!
- littlesquall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got my Wii yesterday :). Tried the News Channel last night but it wasn't available. Tried it again this morning and it was a go.
- nikebud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2once I downloaded the update for the news channel, it asked, or reminded me about parental controls.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or at very least, some sort of search capabilities.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's called a byline, guys. It's where the writer of the article was when he/she wrote it.
- arcticblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's how my morning went (morning for me is 5pm since I work nights):
I woke up to "Hey Duncan, it's 5:30, you going to work right?". I woke up, looked at the time, and let out a loud "Ahhhh, *****' a". But, then I saw my Wii glowing blue and I woke right up. I sleep on the top bunk so I said to my roommate who was on his bed below me, "Hey, Bailey, can you give me my Wii remote?". He handed it to me and I went in to the message board since I thought my ex-gf may have been emailing me again. No, it was from Nintendo. Just as good I guess. So, I clicked the update button and it began to download. Unfortunately, my only internet access is a satellite connection shared with about 50 people at any given time so it looked like it was going to take a good 2 hours to download the update.
I did the Snoopy happy dance in my head :)
The End. - kennyGS13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2very nice interface
- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no... we need to start a support group... or... reevaluate our life priorities.. or both!
