- Fractl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15You mean you're not in line yet?!
Forget it, man...you missed the boat. - LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I waited outside a Best Buy for the 360 (I think for the second inventory shipment when demand was still high). I was there at 11pm the night before. Around 3am there were 5 people waiting. At 5am there were more than 12 and by 8am there was probably 20.
If your going to wait outside the store - what's the harm in making a night of it? More fun and gives you a nice story.
Of course I HIGHLY doubt there will even BE a shortage. I'll probably walk into a zellers or a toys r us and pick one up shortly after the stores open. - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It ships with the one remote and one nunchuck. I think what they mean is that the nunchuck is a separate purchase from the remote when you're buying additional controllers.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, it depends on how many they've got and how busy the store is normally, but if you start 24 hours before (ie. 10am the previous day) you should get one.
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ooooooo I can't wait until 11/17 when they unveil the section"hooking it up". I sure hope they have lots of snazzy flash animations showing how exactly to plug the A/V cables into your TV.
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, I was just going to say the same thing earlier. :) Man, I can't wait to get my Wii. I didn't preorder one, so I am planning to wait outside Best Buy for one. It opens at 10AM, what time do you think I should get there? Sorry, I have never bought a console on launch day before. :)
- PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I got my PS2, I got there just before 5am. Some people showed up at 5am and around 6am a lot of people started showing up. I forget what time the store opened since I had stayed up all night and was kind of out of it...but I was about 50th in line, they had 80 units, and I got it around 11am and was home by 11:30am and immediately went to bed.
(This particular Best Buy sold A LOT of Sony products, so they got a large number of PS2s...second most in the region, I overheard.)
If I did it again, I'd arrive just before 5am (to beat all the people that plan to arrive at 5am.) ...and because I think people are either going to arrive the night before (9pm to midnight) or that morning (5am onward). I don't think many people plan to arrive at 3 or 4am...seems to be one or the other. - Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Any clue on the UK launch date?
- troopa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You said they "probably never will."
That's a bit silly. - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There's one on GameSpot too:

The Wavebird receiver will plug into the top of the Wii, allowing it to be used on GameCube titles just like it would on the GameCube itself. - Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dec 8th, according to Eurogamer.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Question to those who read even more about the Wii than me --
Can the Classic controller be used for GameCube games? I already have two classic controllers on pre-order, along with an extra Wiimote+Nunchuck, so it's already costing me an extra $100 so I can have two people play the Wii (dumb, by the way). Do I have to spend even more to get GC controllers to play those games?
I've heard it can, but that was a long time ago, and I haven't heard anything from the Big N. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The game is in widescreen format for the Wii version only.
- LunarOcean, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Somehow, Chad, I imagine you're incorrect
- nonfamous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like the Gamecube controller will be better for some Gamecube games than the classic controller. The shoulder buttons on the classic controller are not analog, so any Gamecube game that relies on partially depressing the shoulder button (e.g. racing games) will need the little purple controller.
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet! Thanks guys for the help. I think I'll plan to get to Best Buy at about 4:30AM. Hopefully that'll be early enough. Which of these stores do you think I should check if BB is out: Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Toys R Us, Circuit City . Thanks!
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've never stood in line for a console before. Do you really think that 6-7 AM will be early enough?
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, I am in Eugene, Oregon. I think that should be enough time, but am not sure seeing as I have never actually bought a console on launch day. I am just basing it on advice I have heard from others. Tomorrow I am going try for a Pre-Order at Toys R Us. I think I am going to get there a couple hours early (it opens at 10AM). Each Toys R Us has about 12-24 Wii's and like 4 PS3's. We'll see what happens. If I can't get a Pre-Order, I guess I'll just wait at Wal-Mart or Best-Buy.
Btw, is Wal-mart actually doing a midnight release? - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you think if I go to the super wal-mart in lebanon oregon by 9:00PM for a midnight launch i will be able to get one?
- MadMoses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, December 8th is the launch date in Europe.
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This was the first time I stood in line for either a preorder or an actual system. I went to GameStop at 8 AM and I was 4 away from getting a preorder. Granted if I had stayed at EB I would have gotten it, but that's beside the point. There will be so many people wanting to walk-in and get a system. We are two people, just for example. Wii is going to be the hot system for the Christmas season. Remember the long lines for the Furbies back in the day? Or how about all the Elmos? I would suggest you brave the elements and just stick it out and wait. Grab a friend so you won't be all alone in line, or make some friends with the Wii hopefuls. If you make friends you can either play together, if you get it, or cry together, if you don't. My friend Tom and I are going to be waiting in line together.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe you should have just invested in gamecube controllers instead of the classic controllers...
- harikaried, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least for now, I believe it's safe to say that we won't be seeing videos of the IGN editors playing games in this Wii Launch Guide. Some have already started complaining on message boards that there's too many of them already.. such as these directly from Nintendo! http://digg.com/gaming_news/Nintendo_Adds_4_More_Wii_Experience_Videos_To_Wii_com
- precurser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1on the very first section of this guide "console" it clearly states on the left how much it is and that it comes with 1 wii remote and 1 nunchuck attachment. you can also buy them seperately.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, it definitely comes with 1 Wiimote and 1 Nunchuck controller.
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'd say somewhere between 6 and 7 AM. I'm doing the same if ... things don't go my way in the near future.
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmmmm...yeah, that is what I was thinking. I was going to get there at about 5-6AM. For some reason I don't think that many people will be there at the Best Buy in Eugene, Oregon. But you never know, I could be wrong. :)
- rschenkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reading this guide just made me more desperate for Nov. 19 (or 20, since I'm ordering online). It's quite complete (although it is not finished yet).
I did not know that you could attach the Wii-remote to the back of the classic controller. It makes more sense, since that would enable the use of the Wiimote's gyros in classic games... (I still remembre the first time I played Mario on the NES trying to make him jump moving the controller in the air), and talk about adding rumble to classic games that did not have it.
*sighs* Well, back to work now, no more Wii-dreaming for today for me... - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The biggest difference that I've heard (aside from the control scheme, obviously) is that the fishing which Nintendo showcases in most of their demos will be absent from the Gamecube version. So, if you're some kind of Zelda fishing fanatic (you know you're out there), you'll want to be sure to pick up the Wii version. Other than that and the new control scheme, they're more or less the same game from what I've heard.
- scurker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a reference the actual differences in LoZ other than the game not being wide screen for the GameCube, and the control scheme? I've heard "rumors" of fishing not being included in the GameCube version but have yet to see any official word on the differences.
- techgadgetguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since the Zelda release will be a dual release on both new system and Gamecube what will be the differences between the two, I get the feeling that the Zelda title may not puch the Wii to its limits due to the small amount of time in Wii development as it was orginally developed as a GameCube title.
- wilsonics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, this will be my first preorder and wait in line for a system on launch day. Hell, i don't even own a ps2. I own an xbox, but only use it for xbox media center, it's hacked...never play games on it. My gamecube rarely gets used, but the Wii has instilled a newfound passion in me for gaming...i've even dug my gamecube out again in preparation...but i'll probably just toss it when the Wii gets here.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't have any GameCube controllers, or a GameCube, that's why I was wondering if the Classic ones can be used to play GameCube games. You're right that the Wiimote can be used to play NES games by turning it on its side, but it won't play SNES, Genesis, or N64 games, so I definitely want the Classic controller. But I don't want to shell out even more money for GC controllers in order to play GC's version of Mario Tennis, Mario Kart... etc.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think even the wiimote could be used to play classic games. If you hold it on its side, its almost looks like the original NES controller it would be crazy for Nintendo not to let it work as a NES controller. SNES games wouldn't work because they need more buttons. It might be a little klunky, but it would work without spending an extra $100. But I would assume that if you have GameCube controllers, those will work with classic games as well. Cancel your preorder and try it out first. If it doesn't work, I doubt the classic controllers will sell out on day one. The only downside is you will have to connect the GC controllers by a wire to the console whereas the classic controllers plug into the Wiimote for semi wireless gameplay.
- Lazybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can use the GameCube Controllers to play GameCube games on the Wii..
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unless they changed the specs I think your GC controller can still plug right in. Including the wavebird.
- ryanfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice! Thanks for that!
- akiyba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IMO a Wal-Mart would be your best bet. Most are open 24 hours so you could just show up Saturday morning and hang out in the electronics department all day. And you wouldn't have to sit outside and freeze. And If for some reason you don't get a Wii at Midnight you can just head over to a Best Buy and wait outside.
- ryanfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know about the Wavebird fitting in.

Unless it is inserted upside down (hopefully!), then it might only be the wired controllers that are accepted... - OdinsFury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Gamecube release of Twilight Princess isn't being released until December, so those with a massive hardon (like myself) to play it will have another reason to buy a wii... as if they needed more reasons.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Find out first how they are planning to release the console. Waiting in line for 24 hours would be a complete waste of time if they are planning to sell the console by a lottery system. I went to a store on release day for the PS2 and that was how they handled it. I didn't get one, but I only showed up 30 minutes before the store opened, but other people were there for hours, since midnight even and didn't get one.
- techgadgetguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0do you know what the key differences are, I really hope that the control system is not the only improvement, I expect the whole game to of been overhauled and I just cant see how with the short timescale they had
- joshoa123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have the same thought as "AhrenBa" does walmart do a midnight launch?? there open 24 hours so i cant see them doing it but i could be wrong. PLZ PLZ PLZ!!! someone answer me i got the money i just need to know. :) WII RULEZ!!!!!
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Nice and resourceful.
Digg++ - Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2However, it pales in comparison.
- tehnico, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1So, I'm confused by this also. On the overview of the remote it says that the nunchuk is sold separately. When you view the details of the nunchuk port (point number 10) it says otherwise.
Does it ship with the nunchuk or not? - andy6915, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Why did I get dug down? Is speaking the truth looked down on or something?
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Yeah, cause the GC never had shiny blue lights!
(I know that comment will get me digged down, but I couldn't help it. Time to redeem myself...)
I heart Wii - andy6915, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0Just letting everyone know, the specs for Wii are purely assumptions and rumors. Nintendo has not revealed the official specs yet, and probably never will. Speaking of which, I wonder why IGN posted specs that they know aren't official?
