A majority of online gamers tend to be "insufferable assclowns" with or without rankings. - wild, on 10/12/2007, -10/+44Ugh, I am for everything but rankings. They just make players insufferable assclowns...
- andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Whatever they can do to get rid of 40million digit codes. How about having nametags?
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30http://kotaku.com/gaming/gamespy/nintendo-taps-gamespy-for-wii-online-243737.php
For whatever reason the link doesn't take you to the article. - djruden, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28This is exactly what Nintendo needs. Hopefully it doesn't take forever and a day to push these services out and games start taking advantage of it.
Next gen wars are getting exciting now. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21now i can finally get rid of my real-life freinds!
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23awesome.
- YouRookies, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18"Fanboys will digg me down, but I'll say it anyway:
this is even better news [to me] than HOME was "
- Any news is better because you're a Anti Sony Fanboy. This article is about Nintendo. Quit trying to turn everything into bad Sony news.
This is great news. The only reason I got a Wii was for the possibility of playing Smash Bros online. - dime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16ZOMG THE DUPE POLICE HAVE SHUT THE CLUB DOWN.
Thank you sir! What would us lowly proles do without you? - Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I think his home comment was more about how Sony's implementation for online needed a band aid, and Nintendo's needed triple bypass surgery.
- frozensun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Hopefully gamespy makes a better interface than they did for the Battlefield series on the computer. That thing stunk.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"Whatever they can do to get rid of 40million digit codes. How about having nametags?"
i'd much rather have a nice, real name like Justin than xXJustin0071337killaXx or something phonetically improper like ImTheDarkcyde, wouldn't you? - tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So THAT'S what the Wii's USB ports are for
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It just means that networking isn't a core competency of Nintendo's, so they're outsourcing it. However, they should look into developing this kind of expertise in-house. Microsoft's experience in this field is really evident when you look at Xbox Live.
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6GameSpy provided the middleware for the DS as well. So, this might just mean friends lists and rankings within THAT game and not shared across the experience. We will just have to wait and see (but I highly doubt it).
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You can already link your Wii to your account on my.nintendo.com... so being able to use those instead of the Wii# code would be great. Using the Wii# system doesn't bother me that much, though. So long as games themselves use the contact list and not another, separate friend code system, I'm happy.

Broken? Doesn't there have to be something in order for it to be broken? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Submitted: 22 hours 43 min ago"
what do you know, that was yesterday! and submitted only 2 hours after the other one
so how can you really blame him for submitting a "dupe" of a story that wasn't even front page'd yet - JagoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5--> "Hopefully gamespy makes a better interface than they did for the Battlefield series on the computer. That thing stunk."
Yea...except we (GameSpy) don't design the interfaces for the games. We provide them with the technology, source code, support and testing for the game...it is up to the designers at the developer to create a functional and working UI. - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Normally I don't care about dupe articles, or them being pointed out, mostly because the majority ive seen were posted at least a week if not months ago.
But for the love of.... this was posted less than 24 hours ago! In fact, the original is still in the top 10 list of articles for gaming. - shyrich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's fantastic. I'll try it out as soon as... oh wait... I still can't even find one on store shelves 4 months after release.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I don't think its a sign at all of a broken strategy. they are reaching out to a third party that specilizes and has years of experience doing this. On top of that some game developers may already be familiar with it. Theres always a cost vs benefit with regards to implementing yourself or finding a third party solution. Im going to hold off judgement till I see it, but this actually buys Nintendo time, to implement cooler things as well as get out online functionality
- felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Please, oh please make it good.
- BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Waaaahh! I don't want to input some numbers! That's too much work!
Suck it up, pansies. You sure wouldn't have liked the Quakeworld days, and you'd have missed one of the greatest online gaming experiences of all time. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Rankings are pointless unless it's with legit friends on your list.
Most people in the top spots cheat anyway.
*****, look at every single XBox Live game... there's no ***** way half the people can get the scores they do unless they exploit in some way.
For example in Crackdown, the fastest time to beat the final boss on Time Trials is like.. 30 seconds or some *****. There's no way. 100% impossible. It takes 1 minute alone to scale the whole building. - jasonpoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Friend Code in Wii now is not that user friendly, and Friend Code system like the DS...it would be a pain...
How come they just can't make it like PS3/X360? Something like the Account ID system... - TheRealDj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well according to a 1up article...the friend codes return:
"This first sentence was originally a long string of expletives, but apparently 1UP would fire me, so I'm reduced to simply passing along this sad news: Wii Friend Codes for online play will be title specific. In other words, you need to register every one of your buddies with a new set of random numbers every time you purchase a new game with online connectivity, according to a GameSpy interview with Wii: Definitive Speculation.
GameSpy will be providing the middleware tools for Nintendo and third-parties to bring Wii online.
Falafelkid: Just one last question to make absolutely sure I have got this right, please. If I have a friend roster in one game, that roster will not be available to me in any other game. I have to build up an entirely new list for each title, right?
GameSpy: The answer to your question is yes, for the Wii friend lists are game specific. " - Redchannel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It still is going to be a hassle having an individual friend rosters for each game. wouldn't it be nice if you could just use the friends from the list you already have.
- bouche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2yeah, and clicking on it doesn't show me anything related to this posting. INACCURATE. help me bury this atrocity of a digg.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@ multitask,
True, but why give them more reasons? - deviouskoopa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Okay maybeeeeee this guy can slide by, after all the link isn't even to the article haha, as MoeWasHere pointed out and corrected...
:-) - deadgoon42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No kidding. If I hadn't seen one with my own eyes, I'd think the Wii was just vaporware.
- directive0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4As a quickly becoming disenfranchised wii owner, all I can say is thank allah! Don't mess it up you two!
- stucktildekey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Broken? Why reinvent the wheel?
Let's face it, the real acclaim of Xbox Live is the fact that it's easily accessible and fully integrated from the start. Gamespy already offers most of the features you can find on Xbox Live -- it just isn't as seamless. So, if Nintendo can find a way to use Gamespy's services in a concise manner, we could very well see it rival Xbox Live.
Furthermore, I recall Sony utilizing Gamespy for PS2 games(because they, too, were said not to have a formulated strategy for online accessibility) with a pretty remarkable outcome; they even went as far as allowing PC users to play with PS2 users in games like Star Wars Battlefront. - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5This is kind of a telling sign that Nintendo's online functionality and strategy is broken already if they have to reach out for an external source to provide help with it. Friend codes anyone? What a joke.
- doitintheroad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's great news... Except for the whole "Gamespy" aspect...
- sifusal2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It is a shame that we have to buy different consoles for different features. Love the Wii controller feature for motion sensing, PS2 for god of war for game play, The 360 is great for elder scrolls. To have all this on one on line site would be awn some.
- gmark13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Thank you. I was sure I had the right link?
Hmmmmmmmmm - quantumsaint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0^ So get a computer that can run Elder Scrolls, find a PS2 emulator, and find one of the hacks for using the Wii remote with a computer.
With that said, I have a Wii and a PS2, and plan on buying a 360 when Blue Dragon comes out. :D - TheAtari260, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0You think this would require individual address like DS games?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Thank you sir! What would us lowly proles do without you?"
Add more dupes.
...just like you guys always do. - Omicron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1i can't find the article at all. looks like they may have taken it off their site. j
buried. =( i was hoping to read it - batman88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Don't you mean (_o_)?
Couldn't resist... :) - jackpot, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4No link, maybe Nintendo doesn't want us to see this yet. No Google cache, Coral Cache, Duggmirror. Nothing.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"- Any news is better because you're a Anti Sony Fanboy. This article is about Nintendo. Quit trying to turn everything into bad Sony news."
F*cktard. I own a PSP and am waiting for a lil' extra value to the PS3 to buy one. It's idiots like you that digg my comment down, because you feel attacked by what I wrote. I mention SONY because we are talking about games, they are in the industry as well and absolutely present, I fail to see how it is wrong to reference the company that has been leading the market for the past 10 years.
Hey, it's true. I'm NOT a fan of crap like Second Life and HOME is a ripoff, love it or hate it, that's the freakin' reality of it all. I have the right to prefer menu-based lobies and not to be entusiastic of a moronic 3D world where video game players of age ranging 10-60 will be watching HD porn on their virtual living rooms.
Instead of bashing me for being a fanboy, stop being a hater an accept that some video game players care more about actual GAMES than the distractions surrounding them. - deviouskoopa, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I think I've definitely seen this story hit the frontpage before... I like how people who submit things generally disregard the multiple versions of the same exact story that already currently exist. Or so it seems...
- ShiftingSilence, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0I'll take "How to Make Miis more worthless for 500 Alex"
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1( ... )
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6Fanboys will digg me down, but I'll say it anyway:
this is even better news [to me] than HOME was (come to think of it, that's also because I feel Nintendo's online experience is even more broken than SONY's.)
