- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Or maybe he was playing Zelda so much on the side that he forgot to eat a couple of meals.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hi.
I submitted the "Wii Sports experiment" digg a few weeks back and have been undergoing this experiment for 5 weeks right now, I'm not buying this one bit. I have some progression, but this is:
a.) ridiculous
b.) if true, unhealthy.
Check out the original experiment, here:

- ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, this is metabolically impossible. 4 lbs. is a calorie differential of 14,000! That's like running 140 miles.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Thats not entirely true...If you hit about an hour of DDR a day on hard you will definately lose weight, and build some leg strength too. I lost at least 15 lbs due to that.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Nobody cares about your stupid ***** myspace page full of retarded theories. Go bother people who care.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah I'm not buying 200 calories in a half hour on the Wii either. DDR barely hits 200 in 40 minutes on hard...Unless of course...this ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=91lmWPQ7wAs ) is you?
- twylight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its probably from forgetting to eat - Wii Sports only makes you a little sore - its sure as heck isnt't running for 30 minutes...
- wusupdoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As already said, this story is *****. Marked inaccurate. This guy can think what he wants, but it's probably just scale error. And his calculations. 200 cals every 30 minutes for waving his arm around, just makes no sense.
- ShangHaiKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I cry bull on this story, for one, a pound of fat is ~3500 calories
If anything he just lost water weight which is relatively easy to lose a few pounds if you just cut a good portion of simple carbohydrates out of your diet for a day or two. - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3even so, that's not weight loss, therefore inaccurate.
- kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's just water weight, losing and gaining 4lbs is not unusual for me. Any fitness enthusiast can tell you that. 200 calories is about what you'd lose from a 4.5mph non-stop jog for 30 minutes(assuming about 190lb person, it takes even longer if you're lighter). Waving your hand around intermittently does not match that.
Real weight-loss that stays off takes about 1-2lbs per week, and includes an exercise and diet change in the lifestyle on a permanent basis. Anything else is complete and total B.S. If you consume X calories, you will need to use X calories. That's the bottom line. If you want to drop to a lower weight and stay there, you need eat less and consume less, or workout more and burn more, and if you deviate from this, your weight will deviate accordingly.
Exercise from gaming is already doable with DDR. It's constant motion, and it's using the large leg muscle groups so more energy is needed to stay in play. Play DDR for 30 minutes non-stop(at an easy enough difficulty that you don't need to stop to rest), and you can consider that as your daily exercise, do it 3-4 times a week and you'll be keeping to recommended exercise levels for casual health maintenance. - Disease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.duggmirror.com
- jjct1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You guys need to actually read the story before making such grand comments. If you did, you would find that:
1) The workout is not just moving your arms around. It is described very thoroughly in the workout logs and it include jogging or full sports movement while playing. A pedometer was used to figure out movements made during workouts and the calorie burn was calculated using a calorie calculator that takes into account weight and other variables.
2) It very clearly states that most of the weight loss is probably due to water weight and going forward the results should be a lot less.
3) There was also a small dietary change that was detailed as well. - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't lose 4lb in 5 days unless you
1. Have dysentery or chloria
2. Don't eat anything and run several marathons
3. Don't drink anything
This guy probably just got very dehydrated. Its pretty easy to oscillate several pounds depending on how your fluid intake varies. - SmackMyMac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13 lbs in 1 month playing Dragon Ball Z TB2
- krunk4ever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do keep in mind that body weight has a fluctuation of a couple pounds. my weight tends to fluctuate within +/- 2 lbs just by doing my daily activity. What you want to see is what your average weight is over an extended period of time. I mean go drink 2 glasses of water and your weight would increase at least a pound.
- Camofrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is just wishful thinking. You have to run 60 miles to burn one pound of fat. Or, in Zelda terms, kill about 400 billion skulltullas. The Wii as a weight-loss device just ain't gonna happen. Even going to the gym doesn't work that well. Wanna drop poundage? Quit sticking Twinkies in your face.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inaccurate, digg this down.
- brispet1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How much weight you can lose a week is directly propotionate to how overweight you are, doctors now agree that someone who is morbidly obese can safely lose 15 to 20 lbs of body fat a week with minimal impact on muscle mass, I was about 60 pounds overweight and took it off in 4 and a half weeks and it is over a year later and I have not put it back on, I consumed an extemely reduced calorie diet and used excerise only to offset excess calorie consumption i.e. I burned 200 calories at the gym today so I can have a larger dinner... weight loss from excercise alone is slow and very difficult, if anything this person was gaming so much they forgot to eat, it is very difficult to lose that much weight from excercise alone in a week.
- razorsharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hopefully people start using the Wii as a means to lose weight, but I really don't see that being common. Fat lazy people will play games like Zelda that don't require any more phyisical strain than a regular video game while athletic people will be attracted to the EA sports titles and the like. Some company is bound to release a fitness game, which would work a helluva lot better than Yourself Fitness. I hope fat people buy the Wii in droves and America thins down, but it's really unlikely. If fat people didn't want to be fat they'd eat less and jog. You don't have to spend $250 on a video game system.

http://easyinternetpharmacy.info/2007/03/01/celebrity-diet-secrets/ - Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think he is overplaying or something. If you get exercise from playing a game that you only use your arms in a small movement motion then you are just really not in shape and if you do get exercise from it then you are way over doing the motions needed for the games on the wii... just like the people who throw the controllers, they way overplay the motions of the game.
- deludeexistence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And this is not exactly the safest way to lose weight. Plus, you are less likely to stick to it after a crash course like that.
Speaking as someone who just lost 120lbs over the last 9 months, lemme tell you that you will not lose much weight just playing Wii. You have to also eat better too. In the first week, you have a lot of water weigth that you can lose.
How does this make it to the front page? - ryland2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Seriously, 200 calories in 30 min, that is total bs. You barely burn that running for 30 min!
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2He actually says its probably water weight you dumbasses
- dngermouse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3uh huh...how "innovative"
- clashbomb, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1your fat. tough. playing video games isn't going to make you slimmer.
- pyron81, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2This is about as ***** as the guy who did the biking while playing World of Warcrap...of course your going to lose weight your moving around but I seriously doubt that your losing 200 calories in 30 minutes unless your flinging your arms like a flipping idiot...in which case we should see a picture of something in your house broken soon.
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Lies, that or he was sooo full of crap before this story that he took a major dump each of those 5 days making him lose 4lbs.
