- vdubski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I hope this is true, though it's hard to judge when i can't understand the language the article is posted in.
Once I hear an official statement from Nintendo or one of the game manufacturers, then I'll believe it. - viruselectriko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35here translated

Though whether or not this is US news and Europe news or just Europe News is not debated.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Now it's official? So where's the press release, or a quote from a named Nintendo rep? Please.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21This has got to be the best news since the wii was released.
(btw, I mean this in the most sincere way, not bashing nintendo) - Dugg2Death, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Yeah man, I hear you.. why shouldn't I be sent a new hard drive every time I fill one. Damn capitalist pigs.
/sigh - TROGDOR42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The article never mentions USB hard drives, just SD cards.
- panzerfinder15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18no, DE stands for Deutschland, which is what the Germans call Germany!
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12SD Cards are CHEAP! I bought a 2GB SD card for like $20 from Dell a while ago. Just keep an eye on Slickdeals or Fatwallet, and watch for deals on SD cards.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Nobody's holding a gun to your head forcing you to download the demos.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11512mb is plenty for Wii demos. Most 360 demos 200mb-900mb. Wii games are obviously smaller than xbox games.
Gamecube discs only store 1.5gb max, and so if we're assuming current Wii games are slightly beefed up GC games then you could easily store 1/3 of a game on the Wii's internal flash drive. And seeing as though demo's tend to not even make it to 10% of a game i doubt demos will be more than 100mb.
Which means you could still fit one or two Wii demos, plus maybe 10 N64 games (majority are 32mb or less), a decent number of SNES/genesis games (averaging 2mb)... with NES games being a few hundred kb @ most those aren't a worry either. Say nothing of game saves, those are a few kb each... think of how many saves your old 16mb memory cards used to hold.
512 isn't much... but its enough to get by. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/03/nintendo-revolution-to-have-sd-slot-and-usb-for-external-drives/
It was announced way back. But the External HDD feature hasn't showed up yet, but it better soon....especially if demos are coming. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I have no clue why you guys insist on trying to translate the article when it's already done in the description on this very page.
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now if they only made it possible for Virtual Console games, I'd be happy.
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7DS demos can easily fit on the internal storage or SD cards.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you buy anywhere other then retail stores, you will most likely give at least 1GB for under $20. Best Buy has 2GB SD cards in the wii section from $99 at my shop!
- jonathantneal, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12All credit goes to viruselectriko, but I wanted it higher on the page so people could find it. Digg up viruselectriko for this because he posted first. Thanks.

- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Wii games don't have very detailed textures. That saves a lot of space.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Quoting myself: "Anorhc: Why not? Big games get"
wtf? Digg butchered that comment..
Anyways, what I meant to say was:
Why not? Big games get small demos all the time, I've hardly ever seen any over 600 MB in size for PC (apart from the ones that are simply time-limited versions of the whole game), and that's full-DVD size games like need for speed carbon & such. That said, I do realize that there are some big demos out there, but that's beside the point. I hope someday Nintendo will allow the use of usb mass storage devices (thumb drives & portable hard drives).. and not limit the support of them to official nintendo branded ones.
But, I do see your point. 512MB isn't much, and with the size of most decent demos in mind (say, 200-500MB), you're not going to fit more than 1-2 on the wii at a time without memory expansion (hopefully that means you WILL be able to store them on a SD memory card for the time being)
By the way, at the current point in time (with limited internet speeds).. having to download a HUGE demo isn't very convenient for some people, and no, not just dialup users; cable/dsl too. - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4retral: Why not? Big games get
I guess I'm just not used to thinking that demos are going to be that small.
Surprise me Nintendo! - shit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Let's hope a firmware update bumps up the 2GB limit on Wii SD cards. I'm guessing this time next year 4GB SD cards will be very affordable. (Unless it's white and branded with the Wii logo -- those ones are way overpriced.)
- stenk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thats a pretty crap translation. A few have already posted a translation.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4God, never EVER buy an SD card from Best Buy, or any brick-and-mortar store for that matter. You can ALWAYS find it cheaper online. Me and my friend bought the same camera last year, and we both bought 2GB SD cards. I paid $20, and she paid $140. I bought from newegg, and she bought from Best Buy. If only she'da asked me first...
- ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If it is official then why is the only news of this from a German website, and not directly from Nintendo?
Marked as inaccurate. - motang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Finally this is so cool! I hope this also includes DS game demos as well.
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Direct Google translation for the *really* lazy:
Revealed: Wii demo as Download
Wii owners with Internet connection will be able themselves to download demo versions of Wii plays.
The assumption gave it already longer, now is official it: Apart from Virtual CONSOLE plays Wii fans with Internet entrance will be able to download also demo versions of Wii titles. One can store the demos then either in 512 MT the large Flashspeicher of the console or on a separately available SD-map. Which demos make the beginning, Nintendo wants shortly admits to give. - Balthasar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Calling a Dutch person Dutch is about as insulting as calling an American an American
- dignation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"The assumption gave it already longer, now is official it: Apart from Virtual CONSOLE plays Wii fans with Internet entrance will be able to download also demo versions of Wii titles. Wow. I can understand it pretty well, but it is rather humorous reading some of the synonyms the translator chooses to use.
I have an internet entrance, do you? - defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sure that Wii Demos can fit in 512MB as DS demos can fit in 4MB.
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um, how is this reliable? Let alone true?
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Gxcdesign, you are the becoming one of the biggest trolls next to NeoTechni and C4PT41NJ4CK (Both blocked so do bother replying to me).
- eric1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3USB hard drive or SD cards (2 GB) or so. Play demo, overwrite with next demo -- it could work.
- scurker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3People are complaining about the demos being large, but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to download and delete once you're finished. A demo is supposed to be very limited, and give you a "taste" of the complete game. If it sucks, you probably won't want to play it anyway. If it's good, you'll more than likely buy the game.
Besides, downloading demos should be free, so no reason why you wouldn't be able to download it again if you needed to delete it at some point. - McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34gb cards are (very very) slightly thicker. It very well may not fit... in which case firmware doesn't help.
- fredgsanford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2512 MB is plenty. As of this moment, you can download every VC games and have a save file for every Wii game available, and it would take up less than 1/4th of the 512 MB flash memory.
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I want two things DS demos through my wii, then download&play to my ds, and the ability to have a "video channel" either from my sd card, external usb harddrive, or disk.
Speaking about disk can the wii read/play normal cds, audio, or even files? shame if joe bloggs cant bung in his kodak photo cd and use the photo channel... - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Demos to be stored on Internal 512MB memory"
Demos are going to be that small? - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"you're not going to fit more than 1-2 on the wii at a time without memory expansion"
Well, that's the thing. Are they going to do the same thing as they did with the DS Download Station? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Google to correct translation:
Wii owners with an internet connection will be able to download demo versions of Wii games.
So it is now official: Apart from Virtual CONSOLE games, Wii owners with internet access will be able to download demo versions of Wii titles. One can store the demos in the internal memory or on a SD card. Which demos will come out first remains to be seen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder if when you download demos onto the SD card if they are immediately accessible from the SD card or if you have to copy to internal memory before they can be played (a la current VC games).
- Shirokun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Panzerfinder15
Thanks,
Actually I speak German because I was born there (now I live in spain)... Well, whatever, I just had to sum it up a little bit to fit the description. - babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The rumor existed for a long time but now it's official."
Official? Not by a long shot. - dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Large demoes could probably be what pushes most people to buy 2GB SD cards, but it doesn't really matter since stuff on an SD card can be transfered elsewhere and just swap what you want to play!.
- MartyMcFly713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1these demos are not HD. 512mb is enough.
- CaptJackSparrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do people need 4 GB cards? We can always buy second 2GB from online stores when we run out of the first 2 GB card (it will be a while). It will be even cheaper then and all your eggs will not be in the same basket. Changing cards is much easier than changing disks (that I used to do for xbox demos.)
- Th3Wiiexpert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ummmmmm......how about a demo channel guys???
- CoolJammer00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3512mb? demoes cant be very big
- rz22g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We are talking about Wii games. PC games, which are much more complex, more content, more details, and higher resolution, run in the 500mb range and up If the Wii demos are that large I would guess that it has more to do with how optimized the game code is, or rather lack of.
