- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21The Wii classic is nice but anyone ever see it in action? Advertising photos are extremely deceptive because they show the controller but omit the cord is attached to the Wii controller.
So the way it works is the Wii controller just dangles there in your lap literally giving you a Wii Wang. It'll be interesting ad campaign when the flesh colored one is released. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The holes in the bottom are probably be for a small plastic clip to hold the remote. Which should have been included in the controller but they will no doubt charge you $20 for it instead...
- lachlan334, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I really don't like the cord coming out of the bottom, I don't think I'd be able to handle it.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm sure it will be fine. The wiimote is small and won't be a bother - it can sit on the couch next to you. Dreamcast controllers had a wire on the bottom too and it never bothered me.
I'm just waiting for the arcade style controller - hopefully the Adwantage. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Rock hard Wiimote?
Awesome - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think peopel are better off getting a wavebird controller instead since it's compatible for virtual console games and you don't have to unplug your wiimote every time:

When they originally showed the cable coming out of it, I just figured that the controller would plug into the GameCube ports, not the Wiimote. I'm all for wireless controllers, but this just seems hackish. The only justification is if they decided at the last minute to switch it from a wired to a wireless hookup, and didn't have the time to re-engineer or modify the internals. Also, how much extra would making it true wireless cost? An extra $10? I think the Wavebirds cost $10-15 more than a standard GCN controller.
No one is even sure how big the demand for the classic controller is anyways. This is really aimed at people who don't have a GameCube controller since they sold their GCN or never had one in the first place. - Bronstone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I really wonder what that attachment is for on the Classic controller.
Rumble? - cayqel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like my hori gamecube controller. Though I wish it had the SNES button layout.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/features/hardware/hori-digital-controller/ - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I absolutely love the classic controller... sure you have to plug it into the Wiimote, but I just lay the Remote on the table in front of me or on my lap and go. Also, the cord being on the bottom actually has it's benefits; wires coming from the top weighs a controller down in the opposite direction that you're holding it. While the wire is very light, after hours of holding a SNES controller, it can strain your hands.
Other than that, just what does that top middle button do? - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's doubtful since Nintendo announced that VC games won't have rumble support. But who knows, they could just surprise us... which would rock so hard.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3it's not that big a deal. really.
- 13tongimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I know, the whole wired/wireless setup they have going with this "Classic Controller" setup is kludgy and lame. They should have just stuck with letting you use GC controllers/Wavebirds for this but far be it from any company to pass on an opportunity to sell you a heavily marked up piece of plastic full of wires.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@13tongimp
Heavily marked up?? It's 20 bucks.
OH NOES!!11!1! - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me more of the Neo-Geo joypad than the SNES one.
- ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The wavebird is good for NES and N64 games, however for SNES it's definitely strange to use, especially if Super Mario World were released, X and Y are just placed odd. I'll be using the classic controller for that...Wiiner on the lap or not.
- KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah lots of people online in 1991---.
Well I guess they could phone in :). - Badaudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's the C buttons?
- KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd been waiting for a size comparison shot between the two. Thanks.
- Hoffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I finally got a classic controller yesterday. It's a great little controller. I hate the bumper buttons on the Gamecube controller and the ones on the classic are just like the ones on the SNES controller.
I do find it annoying that it plugs into the Wiimote. Everytime I adjust myself in my chair, I have to worry about moving the Wiimote. I kinda wish the cord was a lot longer so I could just set the Wiimote on the floor or something. It's also stupid that the cord comes out the bottom.
I would have gladly paid another $10-20 for a wireless classic controller with rumble. I hope some third party comes out with that or something. - dime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The wavebird is one of the most intelligently designed controllers in console history imo. Plus, it is far closer to the original n64 controller than the classic.
Although I suppose a lot has to do with what you're used to. I pick up the xbox controls and it feels like a clunky brick. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The wiimote rests in your lap... If the cord was coming out the top, it would suck.
- jetsetter883, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0best to just buy the Retro Ports (www.retrousb.com) and use your old school NES/SNES controllers. if you sold them or refuse to use them, then you're a giant douche.
- seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't think most people had to buy an extra controller. Most systems were sold with 2 controllers + Super Mario World. Last time I checked you could get a replacement SNES controller direct from Nintendo (store.nintendo.com) for $15 - 20
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3sure the wavebird works with most VC games...
but can you imagine using it?
I mean, the button layout is just strange..... I have always wondered what the person who designed it was smoking at the time...... - Jchen1986, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How much did the SNES controller colst in the states when it first came out?
- 13tongimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When you consider that most VC games can be played with a GC controller and many people have them already and will buy this because they think they need it...yeah, I think it's paying too much. Excuse me for not being specific enough for you.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2The gamecube controller was trash IMO I'm glad they've gone back to a SNES style controller.......even N64 was really good compared that horid GC controller
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8The Genesis controller still kicks your mom's ass.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2i don't digg the translucent buttons too much though
=P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5Wii like them both.
- sunyata322, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3omg
