- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27It has to download the entire page to my proxy. then it has to edit all the html to include new links and javascript (to enable the keyboard and fake the shop page). then it sends it to the wii.. but yea.. its slow.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Acid2 test video coming soon.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19hehe I saw my comment in the black friday page ;)
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14hmmm seems you did this yesterday huh? I remember half those stories. you should have commented from your wii, be like "im making this comment from my Wii!!!!"
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15omg he's beating up the digg guy.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13no cookies. so.. no logging in ;)
- plosfas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Ya, but as of now the opera browser is not released. It is said to be 'coming soon'.
- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Digg on the wii!! It's.. it's.. exactly the same.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NO THE COOKIES!!!
- HAKdragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm squishing your head!
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If they want to do it, why not? Its not like it bothers us that could care less about doing it ourselves.
- bsonline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok, that makes more sense. Due to some wii woes, I still don't have mine.
- AnalogMan151, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4One thing I did which everyone should do... is I added code in my proxy page to always add a back, home (in this case, google), and forward button at the top of every page. Mostly because I kept navigating into a page and not be able to get back to google without reseting the software through the HOME menu.
I also added an open div container that restricted the page width since the built in browser does NOT seem to have a horizontal scroll bar no matter what you do (even iframes). It doesn't always work of course due to site coding (aka, digg is exactly the same). I do however have a small collection of javascript games I can play from my local webserver.
The browser is a very stripped down version of Opera 9. The user agent for the Wii is: Opera/9.00 (Nintendo Wii; U; ; 1038-58; Wii Shop Channel/1.0; en) - a3r0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it's downloading every image before rendering the page. Probably to make the shop look nicer and cleaner. Hopefully, the full Opera will start rendering right away instead of making you wait
- nphp20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Read f3l1x's above post regarding the slowness.
"It has to download the entire page to my proxy. then it has to edit all the html to include new links and javascript (to enable the keyboard and fake the shop page). then it sends it to the wii.. but yea.. its slow."
The real Opera browser hopefully won't be as slow. - System84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Whats the point? The Wii Shop browser is hardly a fully featured browser, however, Opera is going to be when it comes out. Have patience a real browser is coming.
- bug20k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice, i really want a wii now, holding out for xmas, if not then, then hopefully they go on sale afterwards or around early 2007.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awesome man. Keep it up with all these finds.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@knodi
Of course its useless when its not meant to be a browser but an online store...Once the REAL opera browser comes it will be much better and will include much more. Same happened with the original browser for the PSP which was done about the same way and needed wipeout pure and instead of connecting to the DL service the game offered it went to a portal. - AnalogMan151, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, never mind what I said about there not being a horizontal scroll bar. There IS one, it's just so low on the screen I can hardly see it, but I can still click on it.

"Why is the Wii browser so slow?" - varchar32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
actually it does matter what kind of wireless card it has. Optimum Online users have 15mbit down and 2 mbit up currently like me. Even if it is not the case you wanna make a real test. Get a g router and use b class card, take your laptop 20 feet away from router. download a file from your providers ftp site. and do the same with g class card. you will see %30-40 difference in real speed during download. Because the whole connection speed thing for wireless cards are little marketing scheme. The real speed goes down very fast by distance. Even if you see 11mb connection on your pc you might have 3-4mbit real download speed at max. from a 20-25 feet distance with a B class card.... - f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The wii shop errors out when it is directed to a page outside of its "domain".
That and the proxy adds the keyboard and timeout JS code into each page. This way it thinks that each page loaded is a shop page. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1User Agent: Opera/9.00 (Nintendo Wii; U; ; 1038-58; Wii Shop Channel/1.0; en)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, because it's less secure.
JK!
Or is it? - AnalogMan151, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unfortunately, I seem unable to log into digg while on the Wii, or else I would have done that a while ago xD
- varchar32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
verg good point. it is waiting for whole page to be downloaded before rendering it. I hope they change it with opera release. - Universality, on 12/07/2008, -0/+0You can test your proxies here: http://www.cloakfish.com/?tab=proxy-analysis
It's a professional, lightweight proxy analyzer on a fast page. - linuxinsidev2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There are probably a few exploits available they haven't been discovered yet though ;)
That's why i use opera over firefox. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't easier to switch on your PC to browse the web?
- amund94, on 02/01/2008, -0/+0Just found this new fast proxy.. :)
http://www.hide-us.info/ - sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1geezus people, this is not the wii browser...
READ for goodness sakes... - farfromrooten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0f3l1x, please email me, gabe [at] vtunnel.com, I would pay good money for a working copy of what you've done, so I could host it for the general public.
- bbrock32, on 03/07/2008, -0/+0I generally use these at my school

http://www.proxyidea.com - rabidsnail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Does anybody know what version of opera the Wii runs? Can somebody reply to this with a UserAgent? There aren't any remote execution exploits on milw0rm for any version newer than opera 7 (the current version is opera 9), but if there is a hole in the browser that would be a great vector for running homebrew.
- HelloNavi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You could always, you know... not bother. You could just use a computer to surf the web at lightning speed, and leave your game console to... you know... games.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1so, does your internet connection suck is the Wii really slow?
- linuxinsidev2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0what if instead of proxying the page you set a redirect? couldn't you just direct it to the pages with a meta refresh?
I don't own a wii and am not sure if that would work. - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Who ever claimed that it was?
- AnalogMan151, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0You could, however it's the proxy that adds keyboard support, sets and gets rid of the loading icon, and other things.
- bsonline, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ok, I'm confused. Here's me sounding stupid amongst all of the hacks out there so that the Wii can use the internet... but I thought you could get the Opera browser for the Wii and use that for 'net surfing?
- Tekmazter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It's more than just winds you need to monitor in order to land an aircraft on a carrier. Don't forget about ship roll etc... Have a looksee here:
"Civil aircraft and the Air Force practice a box-shaped traffic pattern, with crosswind, downwind, base, and final approach legs. The Navy, though, has found that timing, spacing, and interval are more easily controlled with the race-track pattern, where the planes make a constant, semi-circular turn from the downwind leg to the final approach."
Coursesy of http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1383520&lastnode_id=0
It's more complicated than you might think. - Tekmazter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Oops ... disregard. Wrong window
ASS!!! - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3O look browser on a console...useless back when it was 1st seen on the dreamcast and its still useless today on a console.
- PointGuard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Why is the Wii browser so slow?
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Yawn
- garrettnb, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3avogadro you are a retard
If you knew anything about wifi standards and whatnot. You would know that wireless b has a top speed of 11 mbit. Now do you know anyone that has internet with anything faster than 11 mbit down or up? Maybe if your lucky you get 6 mbit down. It will not matter. - Avogadro65, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1you can do all that, but you don't even know that it's got a g card?
- varchar32, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0
I dont think it is just proxy. if you try to reach same page 2nd time proxy process should complete much faster. any idea what kind of wireless adapter wii use. is it b or g? if it is b it would be bad for online gaming. - varchar32, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1it looks nice. one thing I dont like is speed. it looks like taking so many time reconnect and getting page. I dont know if it is because wireless adapter of wii is slow or cpu is not fast enough. I tried to ping a pc with regular g connection my own network and wii. Ping times 3 times slower for wii. I used a terminal under darwin by the way.
