- syl1985, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42Hold on, since when is benjaminwillcock.com a sales data company? Or a reliable source? I read the article - looked for a source link and nothing.
Don't get me wrong - I love my Wii but an article like this submitted by a user with the name 'wiifanatic' is just fanboy fud.
Buried as Inaccurate. - Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12nexgenwars is way off and have been for a long while. I'm not even sure they're still updating the site
Try vgcharts.org for a more accurate source. - dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I third that comment. Not only is that figure suspect, but it also contains biased comments such as:
"Microsoft did manage to sell 2 million consoles throughout the U.S. and a little over 3 million worldwide during the Christmas shopping season, which was slightly higher than Nintendo’s 1.8 million - though this was purely due to the fact that a) Microsoft had a few weeks head-start, and b) the system was in stock at all times, unlike Nintendo’s constantly sold-out machine."
This does not take into account longer term lifespans, and the tendency for console sales to peak during the months of initial release.
Don't get me wrong, the Wii has had a very successful launch, and is showing signs of a promising future... However that article replaces objective and informative reporting, with annoying and irritating "fanboyism"... - darkixion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is not FUD. FUD is when you instil FEAR, UNCERTAINTY and DOUBT about a product; not saying something is selling better than something else. That's just bragging, be it warranted or otherwise. It's being used as freely as the term "blog". Stop it!
- tristanperry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why is it that everyone thinks graphics and expensive 'high-def' kit mean a good games console and games? Personally I prefer the Wii's 'last-gen' graphics but cool, innovative gameplay to good graphics but more of the same thing. (And apparently so does the rest of the World, looking at the sales figues...)
- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Marked as another lame blogger attemp to generate traffic.
- J3yrad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7nexgenwars has the 360 at 9.4 million consoles, PS3 under a million, and Wii still at 2.2 (wtf, hasnt it been announced 3 million?) million. All of there figures are off by atleast 500,000 units.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can tell you with certainty that I will not have an HDTV for many years. The prices are stupid high and they are not well supported by cable companies. Standard def looks assed out on an HDTV and the technology seems pretty volatile at the moment. I think the Wii will run it's lifespan before HDTV becomes the norm. Besides that, the Wii is very cool and alot of fun, and it's selling like crazy, speaks for itself if you ask me.
- MrStylz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good luck, all I can find is PS3's in the stores, of which I saw 9 last night at target/bestbuy.
- crcurran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just be patient, by the end of the week we will see plenty of reliable news sources telling us how many consoles sold, how many Zeldas sold, how many HDDVD addons sold, how many R:FoMs sold, etc.
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only articles submitted and dugg by wiifanatic are from benjaminwillcock.
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From data at http://www.vgcharts.org, in North America the PS2 outsold the Wii in November. Throw in the PS3 and Sony outsold the Wii by almost 2 to 1 in November. Now I am not a fanboy of any system, but based on the logic commonly applied in digg, does this mean that Sony kicked Nintendo's butt? Stats and date can be interpreted and massaged in many ways. Just enjoy the gaming console you have.
- fueledbyhatred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't understand where people are buying these things. Every couple of days I check the online retailers and I get nothing. Are these all in-store sales? When are these consoles supposed to be able to be purchased online (not eBay)? I hate going to Best Buy, the staff at Circuit are retards, and if I could burn down the Gamespot by my house I would. I just want to pay MSRP for one of these things and have it shipped to my home. I feel like this is a bigger deal than it should be.
- Blaxter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i trust in http://www.vgcharts.org/
360: 8.13
Wii: 3.83
ps3: 1.31 - xymor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I trust vgcharts more than nextgen wars, but they are both very flawed.
The indicator I trust the most is amazon sales rank, in eproductwars.com
It's far from perfect, but at least their numbers come from actual sales on amazon and not from estimates.
I think it's a decent sales thermometer.
http://www.eproductwars.com/vg/ - mclumber1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm willing to bet that a majority of Xbox 360 owners (and maybe even PS3 owers) are playing their consoles on SDTV's. Hell, Sony didn't even include component cables (let alone HDMI cables) with the PS3 - a game system touted for it's HD capabilities. The HD revolution is not here...Not yet.
- sgtgoomba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2For the love of god, dig this down. Trust me people, I am well aware that the Wii is selling well.
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Blatant spam and marked as such, every submission from wiifanatic links to that site.
- drshorty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2and yet people are still digging it? How does this happen?
- drshorty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I also noticed that. Either way, how did this get to the front page? Honestly. I like the Wii, but even this is hard to take seriously.
- thefat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you think wiifanatic is actually benjaminwillcockfanatic in disguise?
source: wiifanatic's dugg articles - icoms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3that domain name is not reliable
- SephirothYuyX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im glad you brought that up.. I guess you wernt satisfied in Wii beating out PS3, so your brought in total Sony console sales vs one console, Wii.. well ok, lets do that.
November US sales was it?
PS2 Sales: 783,500
PS3 Sales: 226,000
PSP Sales: 465,500
Total: 1,475,000
GBA: 759,500
DS: 1,037,500
GC: 82,500
Wii: 547,500
Total: 2,427,000
Whos 2 to 1 again? - hobano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+04 million sold (supposedly), and I still can't find one. :(
- DutchThomas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
I don't have a console - and am not getting one... but I did catch this article earlier... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16115967/
"...Nintendo has said it expects to ship 4 million Wiis worldwide by Dec. 31, double the number of PS3s promised by Sony. Late last month, Nintendo said it sold 600,000 Wiis in the first eight days after its Nov. 19 debut." - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't the sony fan boys just accept the fact that Wii sold close to 4 millions units, and the PS3 no where near that figure. and someone said that PS3 sold 1.3 million units, that is total BS considering even Sony themselves said they would have no more then 400,000 in actual product released in December (and statements from Sony even suggesting even less). And I don't think that many people are buying them considering I could have bought the PS3 about 20 times during December and not a Wii to be found anywhere.
- iomayho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2i hope i can get one soon........
- clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3bravo, my thoughts exactly.
Provide sources, folks! - drilldown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1wii
That's another. 2 days, that's all I ask. - VashTSPD, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Sold over 4 million? I've been following http://nexgenwars.com/ for a long time and they haven't come close to that yet. I agree with the above comment, although the Wii is great, I don't think that this is a reliable source.
- wolphkaat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Willcock... lol
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3no.
no, it will not blend.
if you haven't noticed yet,
we're done blending for now.
please stop saying that.
thanks. - Korexz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0PS3s are everywhere
http://www.korexz.com/2006/12/31/where-is-all-the-proof-that-there-are-ps3s-sitting-on-store-shelves/
Wiis? Nowhere, they barely sit on the shelf. - ds55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0The sites has nearly gone down already...
Any mirrors? - sgtgoomba, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Whoa, I totally figured out how to get my website popular. http://www.koopatorivm.com/
Wii has now sold 10 million consoles!!
.....
By the way, dug down. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Buried for blatant fanboyism, inaccuracy, and for linking me to a benjaminwillcock.
- icoms, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2willblend?
- SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Wii is just a fad and eventually, everyone will have a HDTV and the wii little console is going to be history along with the tedious action of the wii remote. Standard definition is so yesterday and wii fanboys don't even know it. They are so giddy about jacking their wii remote at the moment and it can only distract from the poor ass graphic for so long.
