- cabreca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, the whole "Nintendo is for kids" thing blew up when Mortal Kombat was released for the SNES. It was the first time Nintendo's censorship policy was the focus for attention. Although they've changed the policy, Nintendo hasn't been able to shake the kiddie image since that incident.
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2During the whole pokemon phase, they milked their kiddie franchises for all that it was worth and they neglected their older fanbase... Even though that's in the past now, and they are pumping out some great games, i think many ps2 and microsoft fans havn't given it a second look.
Many ignorant people who diss the gamecube havn't played one (at least not more than 5 minutes at their local wall-mart), and are just saying what everyone else is apparently saying. - BitSlash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1because these "people" are immature teenagers
- ParanoiaAgent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the video game market is big enough for Nintendo to just fill that niche. I'm a grown-ass man, and I still like busting out the Nintendo games from time to time.
- CableCarrier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Because they are geared towards children. Have you even played the majority of nintendo's first part games? Take mario sunshine or wind waker as examples and tell me those werent geared towards children."
Wind Waker has a guy getting stabbed in the face, doesn't it? Also, look at Metroid Prime. - GarySwager, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The main problem is mentality. In Japan, nintendo could very well be seen as a company that doesn't market exclusively to children. In the West, however, bright colours, cartoons (anime) and cartoony characters are still for children and geeks. It's a problem that transcends gaming. The only reason that The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy on the one hand and Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks productions on the other hand 'work' for adults, is because they're either pretty explicit about it, or 'funny' movies.
It's much harder to convince 'adults' that a cartoon with a serious story is, in fact, geared towards them and not children. There are a couple of exceptions, but popular culture still doesn't accept cartoons or cartoony games as a valid medium for the whole spectrum of genres. - DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Mario.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That link actually proves they target childrem
- djnull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0because if somethings not specifically aimed to adults with violence, sex or other grown-up themes, then its obviously just for the little kiddies.
- Axord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I know a ~60 year-old grandmother who bought a DS to play Animal Crossing.
