- truspector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51"Since when were they the first to propose/invent anything? Emulations have been possible for a long time?"
Microsoft never claimed to have invented emulation. What this guy is complaining about is the inability to demo a game before he buys it. On Xbox Live you can download a trial version of EVERY arcade game for free and try it out before you buy it. Even if you hate Microsoft you can't say that this isn't a pretty consumer friendly feature. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35"Even if you hate Microsoft you can't say that this isn't a pretty consumer friendly feature."
Yeah, it's quite shocking.
As an avid user of Microsoft technologies in my career and otherwise, I have to say XBox 360/Live is about the only thing they did absolutely right for a change. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34Believe it or not, some of us didn't own a TurboGrafx-16.
- knupso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The only thing worse than a fanboy is a hater. Microsoft can never do any good in schestowitz eyes.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"I'm more upset that you can't download NES and SNES VC games to your DS from your Wii."
Where would you store them? As soon as you turned off the power - or wanted to play a DS or GBA game - they would be gone. That might be fine for games like Donkey Kong, but I'd be more than a little pissed if I accidentally flipped the power switch on my DS Lite while I was on the 9th dungeon in Zelda.
"DS not having enough buttons for SNES control... Little pesky details like that."
Explain what buttons are missing. I count eight on the SNES' controller, plus the crosskey, all of which the DS has. - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17No. It's not.
- contextclouds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14And those of us who did own a Turbo Grafix can't always remember the difference between Bonk's Revenge (yay) and Bonk's Adventure (not as yay).
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I'm more upset that you can't download NES and SNES VC games to your DS from your Wii. Which would be virtually effortless for Nintendo to implement as both consoles WiFi compatible.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15"You're right it is" would have been the funnier response.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"Don't learn from Microsoft, because I HATE how I do not really own my XBLA games and cant play them offline."
You can most definitely play them offline. You just can't play them on other people's consoles without signing in to XBLive first. - noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The Wii shop channel is NOT full of classic titles. There's not enough games to call it "full".
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'd be fine with it being a temporary file as with demos downloaded from the DS Download Station. Just put the DS to sleep and carry it with you. As long as the rom is stored in the Wii memory or on a SD card, you continually own the game and can download it to your DS when you wish.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You can demo then on Xbox LIVE, you can even demo most retail games before you buy them from Xbox LIVE.
So Xbox LIVE Rocks. - qpid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7But you might buy more games if you could demo them. I know that I've purchased Arcade titles on Xbox Live after demoing them and finding them fun.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I bought Descent after playing it on a demo computer in a store (wanna think a best buy) a long time ago. Course Descent was the shizzit when it was first released.
- MomentDEFINED, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@STKD
The Wii isn't this perfect machine. It would be better if it did what this article says. Get over it. - BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because after the first 5 minutes, most of those VC games aren't going to hold your interest anyway. If you could demo it, few people would actually buy them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You don't need to recode them, when you download the file have it tell the Wii that your downloading a 10 minute demo and then the VC in the wii keeps track of your play time on that game then after 10 minutes won't let you play it anymore. When you buy a game it checks if its already downloaded and if it is it changes play time from 10 minutes to unlimited.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"Not when you got your 360 repaired and they send you a new one. Same HDD, but I can't play the games offline."
Yes you can... read the instruction manual on how to recover a Gamer tag. - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nearly all EBGames have a kiosk set up with a demo of Excite Truck running...
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's a simple advertising method. You put the product in the hands of the consumers. The majority of the time, after the consumer has had physical contact with the product or has tried it out, they'll have more desire for it and will be more likely to purchase said product. It's just a fact of marketing.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sick of it too ... so I got a 360. (was going to get one in the spring but thought for 100 more dollars over the wii/control setup/game it was worthwhile)
I'll get the Wii in March/April when there's stock and more games. - jopsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know if it's such a good idea, actually... Most of the NES games are quite basic, and as soon as you play them for a while it's all repetition (aside from the obvious Zelda etc etc); I'm talking about games like Double Dragon, Kung Fu, Paperboy or North vs South. I don't know if they are, or will be, available for VC, but they are games that will start repeating themselves from Minute 5.
Don't get me wrong, they are classics that are as good as any game released recently, what I mean is that, for example, if you're playing Kung Fu for 5 minutes, you will play through several levels and will see the whole experience of the game, without actually buying it.
But maybe I'm missing something? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Heh that's funny, while the same might be said of Altered Beast which I bought only to hear "RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE" in full Nintendo glory,
Simcity for the SNES has eaten about 5 hours of my time in the last two days.
For the haters, SNES Simcity is a unique version of the game with its own challenges. As a kid I've only come close to achieving a MEGAOPOLIS (500k pop). I am trying to meet this challenge nearly 15 years later, and things are lookin up!
Now don't tell me this VC stuff doesn't have value. Playing Simcity SNES with a wavebird sitting on my couch is just heaven. Yes I have an EMU. No I don't care that some think playing it on your PC is cooler. :-) - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wii annoyance #001: The lack of consoles availible and the hording of consoles by stores such as Wal-Mart.
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All I can say is, throw out Super Dodgeball. No demo needed, I will purchase it.
- RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ERROR: Headline has caused a general protection fault at address [Front Page]. Negative comments about the Wii are not allowed on Digg. Abort/Retry/Fail?
> - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OK - this one I'll agree is a legitimate complaint. Nintendo seems to think that the VC is good for those who know what they want, but the descriptions and lack of a demo is a valid complaint.
They might not need an actual demo (since that would be asking the devs to work on their ROM file instead of just plugging it in with the emulator), but better description and perhaps a little movie of how the game plays would suffice. There's been some Turbografx games I've been scratching my head, then passing on because I didn't know what the heck they were about.
Oh - and bring in Super Metroid. Thanks. - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The whole DS Connectivity issue is a big question in my mind. Nintendo has consistently dropped the ball on connectivity synergy. They do a few good things, but really don't follow through. Four swords was a major exception, and I really hope they do another game like that.
Remember the GBA GC demo of a kirby tilt and tumble game? That looked freaking awesome and got a lot of people hyped, but they didn't follow through.
I think the Sony PS3 PSP downloadable PS games is more powerful then anything Nintendo has done, and Nintendo has been connecting portables to consoles since N64 and GBC. ( Not that I think the PSP is going to suddenly start beating the DS or anything because of that .. ) - meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Oh cry me a river, go stand in the cold on Sunday morning in front of Best Buy like everybody else or wait until after Christmas when you can walk in and buy one.
- culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love how Nintendo delivers on a engaging, inexpensive and innovative game platform. They deliver on backwards compatibility for damn near their entire library. And how some of your respond? You start whining about every little thing that isn't perfect within two weeks.
Put on your big girl panties and deal with it! - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The functionality can't work quite the same as XBLA demos. XBLA titles are coded from the ground up to include demos, and most of them limit your play to a few levels. For the VC, this would require recoding of the original games - something Nintendo probably isn't interested in doing.
A time limitation could probably be implemented at the system level relatively painlessly. Since the Wii shop keeps track of which titles you've purchased, it could also track which ones you've already demoed. - adamnikyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There already exists a memory expansion pack that's included with the DS Opera Browser - it plugs into the GBA slot. The same thing could be used to store VC games.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS_Browser - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3$8 for that game? Ouch. Really...
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe it's just me, but I find the entire VC shop to be terrible through and through. Mostly for me it's the shrill noises it makes while navigating the interface. And I don't really see how playing Mall Muzak is going to get me in the mood to buy classic Nintendo games.
As for demos, I can see perhaps why they don't provide them, but they could at the very least provide preview movies. I think Nintendo has next to no bandwidth. - jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1supershawn how could you say something bad about the Wii! That's as bad as Gamespot giving Zelda a 8.8
/Sarcasm - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is Wii annoyance #1
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/11/dude-wheres-my-cursor-wii-annoyance-1/ - ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't really bother me, but it would be cool. I sure wish I could have demo'd Excite Truck before I plunked half a C-note on it though.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@supershawn: If you've been on the internet longer than two weeks, you should have known about all of these things before you bought your Wii. Bitching about them after your purchase is like bitching about your new minivan not handling like a Porsche.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1then simple solutions, you don't make demo vc games that are only demo levels and you make the demos time based. Then you don't have to change any games at all and everyone is happy.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Best Buy isn't that old"
Uhmm... yes it is. Old enough to demo Descent at.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Buy - ninjasquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They'll eventually come out with an adapter for your DS that allows you to plug in SD cards filled with your VC games. It wouldn't be that terribly difficult (for Nintendo) and I'd bet it'd sell a lot of DS's. Hell, I'd even buy one.
- supershawn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This is my biggest complaint (although I have many) with my Wii. It's bad enough that the graphics have been "downgraded" so much from other console ports (playing CoD3 on my 360 then on my Wii- it's like two totally different games). But I love that I can demo games on my 360 for free before buying them. There have been several that I purchased because the demo was so addicting- even though I probably would not have otherwise. And vise-versa. Superman looked fun and I was going to buy it, but after playing the demo for a while it seemed pretty repetitive and I didn't. I am seriously thinking of selling my Wii for this very reason- it's just not that "great" to me. The remote is "neat", but not very reliable. Even during simple games like bowling- a slight move of the wrist triggers action when I didn't mean to throw the ball.
I am sure this will get dug down for going against the Wii, but I just don't think it;s that great of a console. My 360 is just much more fun and has way better graphics (based on whats out so far). - TheGilmanator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@proximaC Had I not gotten my girlfriend to spend several hours playing with my Wii thanks to Excite Truck I'd agree.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I still have my TurboGrafx16. I love it.
Bonk is one of the games I was never able to buy for it, though. It was one of the most expensive games back in the day, and nowadays it's still a bit pricey on ebay in my opinion.
Downloaded it on Wii, I'm good to go. :) I don't care that the TG16 is away in storage.
That being said, I wish I could demo some of the games I *haven't* played, like Ristar... Among others.
I also wish they had Bonk's revenge, not just Adventure. - depodollar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+0There are sites can help you to download those ripped wii games and other media! Including movies, tv shows, music and much more!

I do drive a Porsche- are you psychic?
In response...the Wii remote was hyped to be revolutionary- it's not. The gyro mouse I use for presentations at work handles better. Most reviews compare the Wii side by side with the PS3- this is just not the apples to apples comparison they make it out to be.
And yes, I have been on this interweb thing for more than two weeks...trust me...but look at the Wii reviews yourself and tell me where you see "Very downgraded graphics, remote is more of a toy than a controller, etc..." That does not appear anywhere. The Wii is EXTREMELY over-hyped. Mine will be on Ebay soon if you want it...with two extra controllers and a few games. - truspector, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@splizxer
Right, my brother was playing zelda when he was 3.
/sarcasm - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@vandread - Probably a CompUSA. Best Buy isn't that old.
- MomentDEFINED, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Then it's not actually worth spending the money on in the first place. But for the games that do hold your attention, at least then you would know. That's how people find gems, not so much randomly buying games on a whim.
