"Paul of ToyBender fame reflects on how he came to be a collector of adult toys." - DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I couldn't have called that comment...
Regardless, it's an interesting read and I think a lot more people can relate to it on other levels. Collecting shoes, art, videogames, DVD's, etc. A lot of the stuff this guy says can easily translate into other hobbies and shouldn't be discounted because it's about action figures. - straxus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The same way as everything else, *****.
- duggudown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I don't collect stuff but if i could i would collect classic cars. I have a 1969 mustang and I would like to own most of the models from 65-70. Why do i want to collect cars? Because it's a hobbie and since i was a kid i wanted a certain type of car. Maybe he wanted a toy and then wanted to have all the ones from that same collection, model, type or whatever. Collecting is a nice hobbie and it shouldn't matter what you collect as along as it's legal because some people like to collect used panties which is creepy.
- sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is a typo, he is not an adult collector of toys, he is a collector of adult toys.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5yes.
- Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hey buddy, it's a joke. I was fighting off the stereotype that toy collectors are basement dwelling trolls. I guess I could have listed more accomplishments I had in my life, but I didn't think that was necessary.
- Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pikachelsea,
For some reason I can't reply to your comment above so I'll do it here. I'd like to than you very much for judging me and following all the ridicioulous steroetypes about toy collectors and especially me. If you were to actually know me then you'd realize that none of them are true. Just because you're a huge gamer geek who has a case of Arogant Nerd Syndrome, doesn't mean you have to come down on others for what they do.
Thanks for providing material for another post though. - DavePee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's called sarcasm... again, another person who doesn't seem to be able to understand some very simple concepts.
- doshindude, on 10/28/2007, -4/+6WTF? this isn't gaming by any means.
- SeparateSound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ha! It's so funny to me how some people are really threatened by someone collecting toys! =) Silly Internet-People...
I agree that this isn't ideally suited for "gaming news," but until there's a "toy collecting news" section... - Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I’m also not some loser that whose only outlet is collecting toys either, I have my own apartment, a decent job, and I’ve had sex at least one time in my life with a human being of the opposite sex."
How exactly does any of that disqualify you from being "some looser". Making a point of saying you've "had sex at least one time" in your life is not going to help you make your case at all.
Ouch. - dabomb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4MAN I bet he gets so much ass
- Beerduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It all began with a bizarre recurring dream I had"
Anyone else thought of a scary similarity between this guy and Faust from The 7th Guest? - AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know...you tell me.
- i4mt3hwin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Reminds of me Seventh Guest.
- DavePee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's an excellent, well written piece SlamShut, obviously a bit beyond your comprehension.
I must admit to laughing at iTroll and xxMarka's comments though.... sorry lol - Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You're right. There should be some sort of filter where Diggs submissions go to you first so you can judge if they are worthy enough for your time. After all, the whole system is set up to cater to your interests in needs.
- greenvortex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When I saw 'Star Wars' at age 11, the special effects blew my mind. I became obsessed with spaceships and lightsabers. I watched 'Space:1999', 'Battlestar Galactica', 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century', and 'Star Trek' and I built Eagles, Vipers, and Constitution-class starships out of Legos.
There were never any decent toy versions of most of my favorite spacecraft, until about 10 years ago. Now they have super-detailed toys of virtually every ship, and I just have to have them. I keep 5 or 6 on my nightstand and have a good space battle every night.
Lately, accuracy and the level of detail have improved dramatically (Johnny Lightning's Enterprise-A, for example), but when I actually play with spaceships, they have to be in scale with each other. I usually have to take ships from different series to get a little fleet of ships of similar scale. On bigger toys with sounds and lights, the manufacturers don't seem to get it: you need one switch for the lights and one button for each sound.
OK, I'm a geek. - jmack103, on 12/07/2008, -0/+0You should be able to buy whatever type of toy you like. I prefer adult toys like http://www.adulttoysboutique.com though:)
-Jenn - Tenric, on 10/28/2007, -1/+1I don't know why the submitter put it in gaming news either. Oh well, it's there now.
- dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I keep having a reoccurring dream that im falling...
- Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks for the support Dave.
- Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Who me? Because, if you are referring to the person who wrote the article (which is me), I in fact do get plenty of ass from my fiancee, so your assumption would prove to be correct.
- kingcesar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0gaming news -- toys
im guessing you're a serious gamer - xBBx, on 10/28/2007, -3/+1Ahhhh...it's been a slow news weekend.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1and when you wake up it is like your soul is trying to break free from your body but can't quite make it?
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4"because you are gay" is all i could think of
- Tenric, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1lolz! U R so funny!!!!111
- iTroll, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6He's no virgin! He's totally used those toys to bait small children into his car.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Damn you, damn you, damn you!
I saw this story and was about to make the same exact comment! Haha. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4"A lot of the stuff this guy says can easily translate into other hobbies and shouldn't be discounted because it's about action figures."
And why not, exactly? Why do we have to tiptoe around the fact that this is an article about grown men paying obscene amounts of money for (and occasionally actually playing with) children's toys? I pay a lot of money for videogames but at least they are actually intended for more demographics than just the 3 and under audience.
People are so eternally understanding with their "Oh well they're not hurting anyone, and it's not illegal." So what? That's your standard for what makes a decent hobby? It's not ILLEGAL? What people like this could actually use are social skills, not a basement full of pieces of plastic shaped like Superman. "Hobbies" like this are no less nerdy and hopelessly antisocial to me than people who go cosplaying at anime conventions or run around role-playing in the woods in medieval garb.
Yes, it's his money. Yes, it's not hurting anybody (except himself and his social life, more than likely). That doesn't mean we can't tell people like to GROW UP. - saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -23/+14Because he is the real life 40 Year Old Virgin.
- SlamShut, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Okay, seriously... WHO ***** CARES?
How does this ***** make it to the front page? Buried for being shockingly ***** lame, lame, lame.
