On one hand we have Mario who has constantly proven he can take care of any obstacle in his way, though he is surely developing a rather strong mushroom addiction. I mean sometimes he is wearing capes like a loony or even wearing a raccoon suit. A raccoon suit! Luigi though is a very fast guy, kind of slippery at times though. Still the guy has shown he can go into any house and clean it out, getting rid of any pesky ghosts who are ruining it for the rest of us. Hey they both like gold coins at least, so I'm sure any third party voter might be interested.
