- chris4buffy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Yeah it's really stupid how people want to run faster, drive faster and score more goals than other people too...
- bubba9999, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I like that a 20-something year old game still makes the news occasionally.
- zephc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Fry: "I know that monkey, his name is Donkey"
Professor Farnsworth: "Monkeys aren't donkeys, quit messing with my head!" - GrassrootsNinja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"'I had more time on my hands than the average person,' says the married father of two."
That was a clever jab. I wonder how his family felt during all this?
Meanwhile, Mitchell is painted as a family man: “'I have my priorities straight,' he says. 'And my priority is to be behind my children — not behind the joystick.'" - mikesbaker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4how was it hard to reply... stop drinking old thermometers
- Sell, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8I love reading recycled articles passed off as new. Heck all you gotta do is change the date!
- oriondarkwood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Welcome to the arcade where even total losers can score
For the record most I ever dropped in one night (well 15 hours) in a arcade was $102 (and this was back when most arcade games cost a quarter) - 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Although Mitchell ended up on a stage with lots of hot Japanese chicks, and got handed a reward, it just doesn't feel very rockstar-y...
- Shaflugi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2God damn those video game enthusiasts! Good thing we don't have those here at Digg gaming, right guys?
- jdllama, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3See, the sad part is like an above person mentioned, this is indeed old news, since Billy went and topped the score again with 1,050,200. I have no qualms with either Steve or Billy, but rather the news in making sure that the info we get is indeed accurate.
http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=19&id=1465 is the announcement of Billy's score. - Easty, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I'm the king of bongo bong.
- Brian47126, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The story is worth further reading by heading over to the Twingalaxies website. Billy Mitchell's relationship with Doris Self is especially touching. You can thing whatever about these people; however, they are a group that seems to care for their own. It's something I regret not knowing about untill I saw this story. I will definitly go see this film.
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2King Kong ain't got ***** on me!
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks to be an interesting movie, but I find the movie "Joysticks" (1983) much better...pointless plot, but lots of topless chicks and Classic Video Games...you can't go wrong.
- ThatOneFatGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey Flummoxer said "There is a movie coming out."
just figured id let ya know since he had trouble.... - diktator279, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Neat, Funspot is 15 minutes away from here, never knew it was some videogame mecca. And it's "The Weirs", damnit!
- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5"But he says his real goal was to topple Billy Mitchell's 1982 "Donkey Kong" high score."
There's something wrong with you when you dedicate your entire life to crushing some other guys high score. I swear that picture of him playing the arcade is in a basement... - DartKegan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Bankers, nepotists, contracts and talkies: on four fingers one may count the leeches which have sucked a young and vigorous industry into paresis.
- itseffinkasey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Billy Mitchell is my dream man.
- Cernio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Sweet. Anyone have a torrent?
- darksydxx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I got King Kong in my trunk
- kolop1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I agree, how sad you dedicate your life to such a mundane task. The 80s have been over with for quite a while now.
- Flummoxer, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3There is a movie coming out.
*meant to be a reply to Sell. - AoSDFA, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Wait a minute, you mean a score of 1,050,200 is all I needed to achieve fame and fortune? Or if not fortune then a nice plaque and my picture with a buncha trade show girls? Man, I used to do that every weekend in high school. I thought the crapping-out screen was just the game overheating or something, so I'd just go home. I always suspected the manager at Imo's pizza was flicking the circuit breaker in the back room to get me to leave. Who knew? Add that to the list of things I wish I'd knew in 1982, right between "Don't throw away your baseball cards" and "it doesn't actually make you go blind."
- kolop1, on 10/10/2007, -10/+1Who cares this game is over 20 years old. It's time to let it rest.
