- rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Am I the only one who noticed a Bob Ross Painting game?!!?!
I can't even think of anything to say that's more hilarious then just saying those words in the same sentence. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15that's a good thing.
I can see the Rev becoming the playground of indie developers, hopefully there will be some good games comming out for it. - havaloc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14As opposed to going outside and playing real football, golf, etc? If playing video games is tiring, you've got more problems than you think.
- kivimaki, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16I don't remember the controller ever having a 'vacuum' feature...
Maybe if it really does suck, like you say, we'll be able to play a few hours of Red Steel and then vacuum up the potato chip crumbs from the chips we hastily stuff in our mouths between bouts of awesomeness. - psxman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yes, it's called the shell.
"Nintendo has also announced a controller "shell" which will resemble a traditional game controller called the "Classic-Style Expansion Controller". The Revolution "remote" will fit inside this shell which will allow gamers to play games using a traditional controller while retaining the "remote"'s motion sensitivity. According to Satoru Iwata, it is meant for playing "the existing games, virtual console games, and multi-platform games"."

You aren't the only one, but I don't see the problem...It's not like you have to swing your arm around. According to every report out there, games will only require you to swivel your wrist around to preform any action you want. It's up to the developers whether or not they actually want players making exaggerated gestures like the ones you see in those ads a trailers. - MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Happy Little Anti-Aliest Trees.
- igjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8A 1up.com demo showcase had this to say, "IMPRESSIONS: At first, I was standing up and swinging my hand all around to aim - and my arms got really tired really quick. But once I sat down and relaxed, resting my hands on my legs as I would with a normal controller, everything clicked." http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3143782
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Either your arm will give out, or you'll have a really muscly right arm.
I'm sure when you explain to women that you got that way from "playing with your joystick", they'll just smile knowingly, nod, and walk away. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I got 4 words for you.
DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Well, I for one am glad about the controller. Less strain on your finger muscles. Innovation, developer support, and quite possibly low-cost? Is it just me, or is the Revolution going to be the silent winner of the next-gen consoles?
And in related news... http://doom3.planet-multiplayer.de/images/news/duck_doom1.jpg - hsoj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9If it is, I'll be the first to know :P I work as a game tester (for a 3rd party dev in fact) and I've gotten to play with the controller a few times. It feels very natural, but playing 40+ hours a week might mean I won't be able to lift my arms for the rest of my life. I'm excited about it though (the controller, not the dead arms thing).
- navster15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh I certainly do, my friend. And let me tell you, being made fun of in school because my name is Master Chief was more than worth it for the nerd chic value.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8FOR THE LAST TIME : RED STEEL IS NOT A DUCK HUNT / TIME CRISIS, IT IS A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I had to stare at your post for a solid minute before realizing you meant "Anti-Aliased".
Nice try though. - MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6They will most likely release a normal style controller that people can use instead. Doesen't the revolution have three Gamecube controller ports?
i'd wait for somebody to mod a SNES controller up to hat bitch. so i can play all my old SNES games. - TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8The list seems pretty disappointing to me. I hope more big name developers hop on soon; these foreign games aren't guaranteed to hit the US. Red Steel is probably the most promising prospect in my eyes.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Only 3 of the games you mentioned where launch titles, and in terms of "that arcade thing" the revolution has that covered... its kinda the main drawing feature to the system, as for Oblivion, the game runs better on a top of the line machine. Though yes, graw is incredible. COD2 Is also on pc and thanks to the good ol' mouse and keyboard control and a stable server system it is much much better.
- multivariate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4He's not. God rest his happy-tree painting soul.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Exactly, this is where Nintendo is going to kick a lot of ass. The Revolution controller will certainly be better for FPSs than current gamepads. Add in free online play and you have a great platform for online fragging.
- SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This depends if it is Duck Hunt light gun style or small gyromouse movements. The Red Steel shots looked like Duck Hunt, but I bet you will just make small movements. Centering your view in FPS though must get tiring.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think developers will have an easy time with the Revolution's controller. I imagine Nintendo must have some sort of software that allows you to "record" motions of the controller. Once your game is designed it's probably trival to drop in a new motion. For instance, a cell phone in a game could be operated by lifting the controller up and back to your ear like a cell phone. If my speculation is correct all a developer would have to do is hit record, do the motion and wire up some code. Sounds easy. I think a lot of Revolution developers will be trying to load their game up with as many motions as possible.
- fatcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't wait for painting with Bob Ross.
Sireously, what the hell, I didn't even know he was alive. - Narpas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Luigi Mario, right here!
- Lindquist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3C'mon people! You know the tune!
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1668365808879026423&q=developers+steve&pl=true - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You haven't used it, and yet you think it sucks? The same thing was said about the NES's controller when compared to the Atari's joystick. But it's alright, as long as you have fun with Halo3 and the awesome Xbox controller so that you get the same experience that's been had on consoles for the past 5 years.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo's not making it, numbnuts. It's being produced by a third-party developer (AGFRAG Entertainment Group).
Nintendo IS making a new Mario Paint for Revolution, though. And if you have a problem with Mario Paint, you're a bad person. - masterofshadows, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Because this is digg, and dont you DARE go against the digg mob's opinion.
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3RAAAAMONE, bring me a DS Lite and a Revolution
- StevethePirate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I've heard a bunch of xbox fans complaining about the starting line-up, yet the xbox starting line-up was extremely disappointing. The best game out for the xbox 360 is Oblivion, but it's undermined by the superior version on the computer.
- redblur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I would personally love to see the revolution do well. Partly because of the friendly pricetag and also because of NIntendo's well known creativity and innovation....but with games like this, I don't know how appealing the system will be. Also, while these games could very well be tentative, and there could very well be some real kick-ass games not listed on this site for the revolution...I don't think the novelty of this controller will be anything more than that: a novelty. I can't see myself sitting on my couch, trying to relax after work, swinging my arms around for very long. I see potential but Nintendo will have to utilize and cater games to this controller very much for it to be appealing in the long run, IMHO.
But what do I know? - Antimatter3009, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think we'll see more FPS games (along with everything else) eventually. Remember, these are going to be launch or early titles, and this is only what has been announced so far. Most console releases have a pretty weak selection of launch games when you think about it, but I think some of these look pretty good. If they can get these plus a couple more third party games out along with some awesome first/second party games with the first couple months (read: by Christmas) I think they could have a winner. Really I'm hoping because I want to see something different. As I've said before, new consoles don't interest me when all they are is PC games with worse controls...hopefully these will be good :)
- daggerhart, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3don't underestimate bob ross's following. (yes, he's dead)
tripping-hippy-flower-children would love to paint 'happy little trees' all day long.
---------
'Sadness' sounds pretty good too. - BenFaist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo wouldn't release it if they didn't have some good games under their sleeve. They'll come through and we will all be happy with life.
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, now wasnt the Bob Ross game announced on April 1st??? it was on the list of april fools jokes listed on Wikipedia for that event date... or is it a real game now?
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, it is absolutely, positively real.
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's it....? The only game on there that looks faintly interesting is Red Steel. I mean, "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross?" Please...
- GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ehhhh...."LAUNCH WINDOW!"
come on now :-P
the COD2 patch on the 360 works good now...though the lag online was awful to start.
TOP o LINE PC barely surpasses the 360 in one category...draw distance...so now the grass grows 100 virtual feet in the distance instead of 60. The only graphics cards that can do this now are the 7800/X1900/maybe the X1800. Those cards cost a pretty penny! - GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had a good time with the starting line-up.
COD2 was a blast
PGR3 was sweetness
PDZero - not my cup of tea
FNR3 - Holy crap...feels and looks real, playing with friends is stinking sweet!
GRAW is an inredible game
Oblivion is one of the best games I have ever played
Oh yeah, then theres that Arcade thing...it's pretty good too
Oh yeah, downloaded tons of demos - pure joy
And no...the PC does not trump the 360 version. I have a hopped up system, and I can't get the same output as I get on my 360.
So no...for the games I like to play, the 360 had a decent lineup, and now the hp of the system is flexing it's muscle with some of the newer titles.
In comparison, this stack of 3rd party "release" titles (which aren't really release titles, just confirmed 3rd party titles which may or may not make release) is lame by far. - Gorrondonuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Paleck has confirmed that the Rev controller is, in fact, not a vacuum.
- eliomar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1REMEMBER, fps are not the only genre. I will love to see more genres open and even newer genres emerge.
- Sarev0k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I'd explain it as playing with my Wii 40 hours a week :-P
- Narpas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Imagine using that for the painting game!
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bob Ross painting game, that's a new one. I'm quite interested to see how this is gonna turn out. Bob Ross is so awesome, relaxing, happy trees, good times. RIP Bob.
- fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like this list myself: http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=497
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, nice job on judging games on their originality and premise instead of cliched scenarios and lack of big name studios. Digg thanks you for your wonderful appraisal of the Revolution launch lineup.
- nannerla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This would be awesome for like an fps game. You could have like a mockup gun model thing but instead of a magazine in the bottom you put in the rev. controller and to reload you pull it out and put it back in . Then you would like pull a trigger and it would be really cool if like there was no crosshair so you were aiming with the gun.
- CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe the new awesomeness of the controller will be too innovative for developers of movie tie-ins- then there will be room on the shelves for DECENT games.
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1YUCK ! Not one game/developer I recognize or care about. There are 0 games in that list I am excited about.
Revolution is going to be ironic. Its either going to be a revolution in video gaming or a complete dud.
Nintendo sadly never really attracted me with their console or games what with the target audience being pokemon playing kids aka 9-12 year old girls and the games being 1997 graphics Mario jumping up or down or riding a kart or playing baseball with stupid rules and silly looking animals. Yuck.
Nintendo needs to approach a target audience in the 9-60 demographic like other consoles out there. They're trying to be like Disney with its ludicrous movies. - jtolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The Revolution will have 4 gamecube ports in addition to the 'shell' mentioned elsewhere in these comments.
