- aristotle1990, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27The whole article:
We all expect great things at E3. Will it be the greatest E3 that the media has ever seen? It's time to put some of our expectations to the question: WHAT IF Wii’s magic wand isn’t so magic after all?
While Nintendo boasts that the “wand” will feature force-feedback, motion-sensitivity, and tilting features, the real question at hand is; will it work? Already, some concerns have arisen that finding the “sweet spot” could be difficult. How sensitive is the motion-sensitivity? With a hiccup will you send your character off the edge of a steep cliff? The design itself looks cumbersome and awkward. The bigger question is will it be functional and bug-free for E3. Having “Wii” on the floor without a market ready controller could cost them sales and fans.
PS3 isn’t playable on the floor?
Rampant speculation already surrounds Sony’s ability to release the PS3 in 2006. Without a viable system on the floor and major titles to play; Sony could be signing its own death certificate. With the rumored cost of over $500.00 (US) and no playable system, Sony will be hard pressed to hold interest. Sony has to step up or it will take the back seat at E3.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sucks?
With disappointments like, “Majora’s Mask” can Nintendo bring our love of Zelda back? With so much eye-candy on the market will the switch to the old style graphics similar to “Ocarina of Time” be enough? Nintendo would do well by offering a playable version of Zelda on the floor. My hope would be that the delayed release date was, in part, due to the fact that they wanted to present the game at E3. If Nintendo offers a playable Zelda demo on the floor I expect the lines to be long and Nintendo to shine. Zelda fans are die hard and looking, once again, for the enjoyment the originals once brought them.
Sony offers an online system comparable to XBL?
Should XBL be concerned about Sony bringing an online system to the table? I wonder if Sony could offer anything close to XBL. Sony seems to be missing something; the visions of game makers like Bungie and Ubisofts G.R.A.W. Microsoft made its best move by snagging Bungie and the Halo series. Newly found G.R.A.W. fans still long for some of the Halo features. Without the game formats found in these games Sony might not stand a chance at putting a dent in XBL.
Microsoft offers Sega Genesis and Classic Arcade games via download?
Rumor has it that Microsoft may be offering their newly snagged Sega Genesis and arcade games via download on XBL Arcade. If this is the case, Nintendo will be pressed to succeed with their old titles and create new titles for the market. Will these games make an appearance at E3?
Wii’s graphics don’t compete?
Many old time gamers are willing to give up eye-candy for game play; but will this hold true for the majority of gamers? Nintendo has not released the specifics on the configuration of the Wii console and it may be for good reason. With systems like XBOX 360 and the upcoming PS3, Wii’s guts may not offer Nintendo a place in the market. The majority of the gaming community is now accustomed to high end graphics and game flow larger systems have to offer. Screenshots and trailers of the upcoming Zelda and Sonic sequels don’t offer much hope. They are hauntingly similar to the Game Cube graphics. With the time and effort put into game play Nintendo may want to reconsider it’s stance on power; putting these two elements together would make Nintendo the leader in the market. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Again with the "what if Wii's graphics suck?"... Come on. Let's grow up and realize that eye candy only holds your attention for so long....
- codemonkey420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10In my opinion there was nothing in there about MS because people are more concerned with Wii and PS3 (since its time for them to show their hands). The 360 is already out, so all we will probably see is more games, and maybe a few tweaks. Big news? I don't think any will be as big as a Wii or PS3 playable console system.
Although, if I had to point something out about MS it would be that stupid pinata game that they think is going to take over the world. - Fitzavig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10great story. it's not even biased or anything. now I look forward to E3 to see if any of them hold true. this is gonna be a good one
- TheGalacticFork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Let's grow up and realize that eye candy only holds your attention for so long...."
Case in point: Star Wars Episodes 1, 2, 3 - dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I think this has a lot less to do with Microsoft bias and more to do with the major launches coming out. The 360 is out, and old news. Microsoft will be focusing on services and titles; Sony and Microsoft, any hype and critisism aside, has to prove that their consoles can stand up.
The 360 has proven itself with demand and a fairly strong launch lineup that it's a good entry into the console market. The Wii has a ton of hype and lots of momentum. The PS3 has a bunch of technology, missed dates, and a ton of question marks behind it.
So, basically, E3 will be the Sony/Nintendo show anyway, and it covered it as such. - oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I believe she meant Majora’s Mask since it has just been changed. I dont see Wind on there anymore.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I actually enjoyed it. Yes its an opinion, but its true that E3 is over hyped. What if it isn't what we are looking for? I don't know, just seems like everyone is expecting greatness. What if it blows?

enjoy :)

Thats why they keep going on and on about it.
In my opinion they had better work harder on diversity in their line up if they plan on appealing to a wider audience. - oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I agree, the other console are what really need the step up time at this point. Everything is going to be compared to the 360 because it is the only thing on the market. Duh
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Everyone who dugg the story cares... why do people even ask "who cares" when there is a number at the top that answer's the question.
- madformadness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I want to play spore
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Hmmm... that is a conusing line... I actually think Majora's Mask was a great game... but independently of that... the author says:
"With disappointments like, “Majora’s Mask” can Nintendo bring our love of Zelda back?"
That doesn't make sense because the last couple zelda games (Windwaker and which ever ones came one on GB/DS) were good... and, even if you think MM sucked, would have "brought back our love for Zelda" ... sorry if my comment is confusing but basically either it's supposed to be Wind Waker or the author is confused (or I am) - ultimathule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The link from the mirror doesn't work.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I believe she meant Majora’s Mask. It doesn't say Wind Waker was a disappointment. By industry standards in wasn't either. It was a big success with developers.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you hype the show too much of course it will be a letdown.
- Hokers, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Was Wind Waker widely concidered a dissappointment? Not a Zelda fan, but I thought most liked it.
- humanpowered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wind Waker was a dissappointment, as early in the lifecycle of Gamecube there was a fantastic scene of Link and Ganondorf duking it out in a mature graphic style, therefore everyone expected a mature style game. When the cartoony kid game appeared, people, such as myself, were totally dismayed. That said, I bought the game and beat it, but it did not have the lasting appeal of Orcarina of Time. And all the bloody sailing! A poor way to make the game "bigger."
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wind Waker was just as addictive and immersive as Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was a disappointment mostly for the way it re-used so many elements. It just stunk of cheating on development and design time, even if they really felt it was innovative in-house. Even so, it was playable and a hell of a lot better than the rest of the adventure/RPG market.
Four Swords really gave a boost to the classic Zelda game fans, and it tied in well with the GameBoy.
In other words, no, there hasn't been a Zelda stinker. - linksyslover, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, I'm not a fan boy of any console (PC GAMER!), but I agree from outward looking in, the Xbox 360 is what people can play now and it really up to the other consoles to prove something. I think this article is just a "waring" of sorts that E3 may not be worth all the insane hype these days. Everyone is talking about Wii and PS3 trailers, but there are no substantial hands on experiences with either of them. So I think a reality check or "what if" article is needed to bring people back down to earth.
BTW, Im excited for Vangurd. The MMO for PC. Looks nice!
+ digg - StevethePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I expect you would have the option to change the sensitivity of the controller, like you would a mouse on the computer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I loved four swords, I was really hoping for another game similar to it before the Wii
- aguita, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not to mention that Nintendo has promised us that we will not be disappointed. Rumors have been flying around for a long time, but a couple key patents that Nintendo has could revolutionize graphics and the cost in making them. If this is true, then it would explain the "lower" specs for the system yet producting absolutely amazing results.
Like others have said though, e3 will have a huge impact on how much excitement (and possibly sales) Sony, MS and Nintendo will have for the rest of the year. We can wait a week. - DeckardRep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The site is overloaded, so I can't read it there to see if it's a legit reprint with credit given or whatever, but looking at what aristotle1990 posted, isn't this a plagiarism of this: http://www.gamedaily.com/features/?id=993
I realize that I submitted the gamedaily story, but I certainly didn't write it or anything. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Majora's Mask was kind of a disappointment.
- gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be good if you were funny.
- Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I heard Blizzard is announcing a new Starcraft.
- eqisow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"With disappointments like, “Majora’s Mask” can Nintendo bring our love of Zelda back?"
Majora's Mask was awesome, anybody who says otherwise didn't spend enough time with it. The sidequest made the game. - zydeco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Given the reaction to Wii, I'd say it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
- DeckardRep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, I don't know why the text of my last message got corrupted, but whatever..
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About the biggest thing anyone is hoping for from MS is the HD-DVD box - I know how good my 360 is, Xbox fanboys are just waiting for E3 for the XBL coverage.
- Wireddd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What if they cancel E3?
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He says the screens and videos of Twilight Princess are an indicator that Wii won't compete, that the graphics look like GameCube's? Um, last time I checked, Twilight Princess was still a GameCube title, so it kind of makes sense that they look like GameCube graphics. If Resident Evil 4 looks as fantastic as it does on GameCube's hardware, imagine what it would look like had it initially been made for the Wii, a system that's supposed to be twice as powerful. I don't know about you, but I really do think Wii will be able to bring it graphically.
- DeckardRep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oodirock2, too many of the topics are the same. I find it impossible to believe that the writer didn't read the earlier article first, and directly base this on it.
"PS3 isn't playable on the floor?" from this is the same topic as "PS3 isn't playable on the show floor?" on gamedaily
"Sony offers an online system comparable to XBL?" is the same topic as "Sony has a sound online strategy?" from GD
"Microsoft offers Sega Genesis and Classic Arcade games via download?" is the same topic as "Microsoft torpedoes Nintendo's Virtual Console?" on GD
"Wii's graphics don't compete?" is the same topic as "Revolution games have GameCube graphics?" on GD
The "Wii's magic wand isn't so magic after all?" is different I think from GD's topics "Revolution games make my arms tired?" and "I drop the Revolution controller?", but still about the Wii controller.
And the last thing from this article is "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sucks?" is about a different game than GD's "Viva Pinata sucks?", but come on, there's no way this wasn't based on the GD article. Maybe you don't care, but a writer who copies other peoples ideas this closely is Busch League and pathetic IMO. - doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Similar story lines and ideas, but I dont see anything stolen.
- ptbw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1From the article: "The majority of the gaming community is now accustomed to high end graphics and game flow larger systems have to offer. Screenshots and trailers of the upcoming Zelda and Sonic sequels don’t offer much hope."
Ummm, what does this have to do with the Wii hardware again? What sonic screenshots? - Krush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well the xbox360 is a known quantity. So Sony and Nintendo are the only ones left to "what if?".
- gamesector, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How did this pitiful article recah the homepage?
- zarlwilliam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thx to the poster above for c&p the article.
i thought the article said exactly what i've been thinking these past weeks and summed it up better than i myself couldve in such few words. this guy hits on every possible topic thats worth hitting the f5 button all day long.
digg 'em - gumpy5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why would they list downloadable Sega Genesis games for the XBox live arcade as a 'what if...' if that is already going to happen on the Wii?
- doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because Kevin wont let you be a digg policemen like you so painfully want to be.
- flypcide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What if, what if, what if?
What if none of that happens...I dunno...life will go on. - Itaintrite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yea yea, what if what if. What if somebody bombs the convention? What if the PS3 are actually bombs in disguise? Meh. E3 is just days away. Wait and see.
- eridius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5This is pretty lame. A bunch of "what if's?" that are highly opinionated (for example, Wind Waker was anything *but* lame) that give me absolutely no information or really even makes me think.
- djjuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0you'll hear a lot of "Worst E3 ever..."
also rioting, burning chairs and stands.. wait wait, wrong venue.. these are video game geeks..
we'll get a lot of forums posts, blogs and letters telling how bad E3 but still pre-ordering everything anyways...
If E3 sucks... nothing will happen... - drtyfrnk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Snap, it's already down.
- Snoopykiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Along with some of my previous gf's. w00+ for gamer girls. May not be as visually stunning, but much more entertaining.
- Cbeck527, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2DiggMirror is a great tool to view pages that went down, IT IS A LIFE SAVER.
