- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63For some reason, I imagine a game featuring Darth Vader sitting in a lawn chair drinking margaritas, watching the Death Star get built for 20 years, while Obi-Wan and Yoda sit around and eat gruel in their huts.
- giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22While I'd hate myself for wasting the money, I would still find that to be awesome.
- RaGa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Digging it, only because its Star Wars news - me geek
- milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17All I want to know is the origins of yoda and his race.
Why george lucas chose to keep secret everything about the magical frog people is beyond me. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16KotOR 2 was great...at least the part they bothered to finish.
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Vader builds the deathstar through an iron, force-choking fist, Luke grows up being a peasant while his good for nothig sister become a princess of somesort. Obi-Wan sits around staring at the light saber above the mantle on his fireplace taking Centrum and snacking on werther's originals inbetween session of losing bowel contenancy. Sounds like a GREAT game to me.
- elsimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"when Lucasfilm releases a videogame based on that unexploited time"
How the hell do the words 'Lucasfilm' and 'unexploited' go in the same sentence? - Lionhart, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I don't see why everyone whines about the second trilogy. Honestly they were good movies. The truth of the matter is that nothing Lucas could have done would have been good enough for the insane fanboys. They're all so diehard and obsessed with the old films that nothing could really do them justice.
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The Force.
- mlkmnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9What happened between Episodes III and IV:
-The galaxies fashion sense ended up resembling earth in the 1970s
-Technology went backwards, instead of 3D touch-displays, computer interfaces reverted to backlit plastic buttons
-Obi-Wan Kenobi aged teribbly and suffered memory loss
-For some strange reason the use of droids almost dissapeared completetly - kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Or try opening a book for once and read Star Wars - Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.
- glide256, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9With the phrase "yet to be"
- KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If they're smart, they'll make the game about what Han Solo and Chewie are up to pre-ep4.
In fact, that should have been what the prequels were about. - jstem1994, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Forget the new stuff. Make more original trilogy games now that the tech of computers is so much better.
Tie Fighter on a NEW SLI-ready system? Kick ass.... - jasyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"the truth of the matter is that nothing Lucas could have done would have been good enough for the insane fanboys."
i'm no fanboy but lucas could've let someone more talented/skilled direct 1,2,3. seriously .. #1 had a some what decent story line but it was hacked together. the acting was plastic and that kid should not have been cast.
watch the special features. lucas even admitted that the editing could've been better. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The remaining Jedi met in a secret council meeting to discuss what went why the last few years had been made so little sense and seemed so useless. They decided that the next 10 to 20 years would have to be much more exciting. They also agreed that Anakin was much better off in a black helmet so they didn't have suffer through any more of his complete lack of emotional range.
They also decided that they were going to kill Jar Jar.....well, just because. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"But since the franchise began in 1977, Lucas has never told moviegoers what happened in the period between the films' trilogies."
Seeing as how the prequels are still pretty recent, I think we can forgive him for not explaining that in the 20-some years prior to their release...
GL, 1979: OK, folks. Here's what happened between episode III and episode IV...
Fans: Episode III? - Gaius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Star Wars: Episode 3 1/2 - The Search For More Money
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6 between episodes 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 there is a 10 year split
then 16 years between 3 and 4, 2 years between 4 and 5, and i dont know how long between 5 and 6, i would guess a couple months - NoNom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Lucas shouldn't touch the origins of anymore characters. Look at what he did to Vader. Darth Vader was a badass. Now, he's the result of a whining little bitch.
Leave Yoda alone. - dh8r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/starwars/timeline.html
There's all these books and more, and comics that add to the Star Wars storyline. I actually like Star Wars not for the movies, but rather the stories that are added by different authors. Everything gets added to Star Wars canon. - CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well then you'll be glad to know that he's making a mini series to explain some stuff too.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5KOTOR is a completely different subset of the franchise. When I explain to someone who is a mild SW fan the premise behind KOTOR they usually react with "hmm... interesting..." which obviously means "i have no interest in it because it has very little to do with the popular franchise set out by the movies"
Yes KOTOR was great, and most of what i played of KOTOR 2 was equally awesome. But a game that is set between eps III and IV will appeal to a much larger demographic, one that the new movies practically created. It will appeal to the crazy die-hard SW fans as well. But a great deal of the sales of said game will be newer SW fans.
Bottom line, yeah another KOTOR game would be great. But I wouldn't sacrifice a III.5 based game to get it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13Stop making these Star Wars games! MAKE ANOTHER KOTOR! KOTOR 1 and 2 were AWESOME.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wait.... you are confusing me.... when you say 4, 5 and 6 do you really mean the recent movies? Or are you saying that the movies made in late 70's/early 80's were crap. Cause those were episodes 4, 5 and 6.
You confuse'd me.... - mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes, comparatively to other sci-fi movies, the new 3 were technically awsome at least until they stop using actors at all. Unfortunately, they were so scripted nobody got actually Act. If you watch the outakes, you can see the movies were more scripted than a Pixar film... Unfortunately, at least Pixar let's the voice actors ACT out the script well in advance to get that "live action" feel. Lucas scripted stuff so tightly, he had actors change lines after filming and actualy put actors from different takes in the same shot digitally... FAR too much micro management.
At least the plan for any other productions will leave george out and let other directors try their hand. - Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"They also decided that they were going to kill Jar Jar.....well, just because."
That's not quite enough. To ensure their safety from enountering more like him, they proceeded to systematically eliminate all of his kind from the universe. Star Wars: The Hidden Genocide - Computer_Kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What is this you talking about Star wars movies 1-3?
Shh! They never happened! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Word
- mrmidgetman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah kotor II was fun but they only released maybe half of it to get it out for christmas. If you dig thru the files it is pathetic how much they left out.
- megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sounds like they could be going for another movie-without-the-movie a la "Shadows of the Empire," which was done quite well on all media formats (book, comic, game, soundtrack). I'm all for it.
- JolietJake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet Star Wars rules
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great news, now we have alternative to watching those dreaded fan films.
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2how many Star Wars minutes are between movies? I want to start scoping the timeline right away... It's probably already nearly filled up with writers trying to get in. If it's anything like after Return of the Jedi, I think our main characters have had like 6 undocumented months from the end of RoTJ to the end of the current novels (25 SW years) on the shelf.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"What happened between Star Wars 3 and Star Wars 4?"
They focused to much on special effects, instead of acting and story. - stray, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Unexploited" is right. At this point, haven't we all had just about enough of Star Wars and its endless milking?
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually, the time between Ep 3 & Ep 4 has been strictly off limits until just recently. There's been trival stuff like stories about the Cantina crowd, but Vader, Luke, etc has been off limits by George. That will be opening up now, but it really is new.
PS that's why KTOR has to be see So far back.. Lucas liked what they did, but wanted it far enough out of the timeline to not conflict with his story. - mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Tales of the Jedi was cooler! I want to see a game with Naomi Sunrider and Master Thon! Lightsabers with power cords... cool....
- bprice25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Absolutely! Tie Fighter vs. X-Wing is one of the best games of all time in my book. A new version with larger, more detailed environments would be awesome.
- maram500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lego Star Wars II is the Lego-based game with material from Episodes IV through VI. I didn't see a title for the game either, but I pray that it gets released for all major consoles (which will basically be the Xbox 360).
Let's face it: George Lucas is a marketing genius. He could probably make us believe the whole Iraq invasion was justified if he made a movie with great special effects and a semi-well-known British actor (...although was Ewan McGregor or Liam Neeson actually British?).
A note for Mr. Lucas: if you're going to release a game, make sure EVERYONE will want to play it. Make it perhaps an FPS (a la the "Jedi Knight" series) or a first-person RPG (a la "The Elder Scrolls").
P.S.: This article probably should not be under gaming news since the majority of the article discussed marketing for Star Wars, as opposed to the upcoming game. And the Wall Street Journal sucks big-time. - tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isnt this whole "between 3 and 4" storyline supposed to be what the Star Wars TV show is going to be about in 2008? Wont the game kinda ruin the initial hype if we know whats going to happen?
- Veretax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this article has nothing to do about the gap, the headline is deceiving as its nothing more than a digg for a lucasarts game
- danakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure this is covered in a ton of novels that have been written. I guess reading ain't the cool thing to do anymore.
- riffic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does this article mention the title of the upcoming game at all ? I didn't see it, other than lego star wars II
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yea, George Lucas is the one sipping back on margaritas laughing his ass off at the money he makes by releasing the same movie 630 times on multiple formats. Im sure he'll release the game in the standard version, then a deluxe version, then the super deluxe collectors edition where the only difference is chewbacca shaves his armpits.
- Omniquisitor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hold on a second... what was 'Star Wars: Empire at War' then? I think EaW covered that time period pretty well...
And why does the author keep referring to it as "Star Wars"? Drop the quotation marks after the first time please. - LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ugh. There are way too many Star Was games already. It's a dried out universe that's just being lamely recycled for money now.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11. Fashion styles go in cycles through the generations.
2. 3D touch display tech became susceptible to hacking, which became more of a problem as the Rebel movement grew. Back to old skool interfaces!
3. That's what life on Tatoonie will do to ya!
4. The use of droids for combative purposes was explicitly banned by the Empire (after all the crap they went through with the Trade Fed's Battledroids). Most combat droids were gathered up and destroyed. All remaining droids were fitted with restraining bolts. - jasyn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3me thinks it best not to explain certain things and leave it to our stunted imaginations .. take for example "medicloreans", or however you spell it. pretty lame imo.
