- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+48i think 360 will be the winner this generation. I mean i love my wii, but I can not help but think it will get old after a while. 360 just has better games overall.
the wii games just seem to be lacking in...substance, like besides the motion sensing theres not much there. The 360 has true depth, plus it has live, thousand times better than nintendo's
(waits to be dugg down by fanboys) - GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33I don't think this is true for most people who like the Wii. After the Gamecube, I kinda wished Nintendo would just develop software rather than force me to buy another console to play their games and a few other decent exclusives here and there, but the Wii is actually a very impressive and unique system that I'm very happy with.
- sexycommando, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24It's ironic that while America lags behind Japan in overall broadband penetration, MS (and American company) has it's online gaming perfected while Sony and Nintendo (Japanese companies) are still fumbling with the idea.
- GDunck, on 10/12/2007, -23/+44Xbox 360 FTW!
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -13/+30@ 4g1vn
Typical response for an idiot. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21"Nintendo could sell a bag of ***** with the word "Nintendo!" written on it and people would buy it"
First, you're channeling something that people say about Apple fanboys. Secondly, have you forgotten about the Virtual Boy? - LunarOcean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16"Guess I shouldn't be an engineer if i'm really that stupid."
Well, you may be able to tell me whatever I want to know about good biasing of a BJT or the technicalities of a 555-timer, but that doesn't mean you can't be an idiot at the same time. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Easy: Microsoft eats babies, Sony makes babies cry. Nobody likes a crying baby; nobody.
- Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19The difference is that Microsoft actually cares about keeping its customers happy even after they have their money. What a novel concept that is.
Oh, and I also just purchased my 360 and activated Live and the other night I was in a 4 person GoW game with one person from Italy, one from the Netherlands, and the other from Germany. How cool is that? - jakster4u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Microsoft is geared towards America, while Sony in the land of Japan(the land of cell phones that are a couple years ahead) is of course geared more towards Japan. The PS3 hasn't been out for long and they already claim that it has failed, I say it takes awhile to start.
- manfrin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16You're really annoying.
Everything you say is complete and utter dribble. Shut up. Go troll some other Sony news. - SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The PS3 is a dream machine for video enthusiasts. If you don't believe me, go to the AVS forum and read all those who has brought one. With a Blu-Ray player in it, whats not to like? Most are raving about it. For $500, its a bargain ...considering Sony is losing around $200. What about the xbox360? Not so much ...it doesn't even have HDMI.
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Yeah, yeah, feeding the troll, but I felt the need to put in a couple cents.
Look, man. Your first two comments, I don't really have an opinion... but you got dugg down both times. Maybe you're new and all, but on Digg (which has a primarily American audience) usually the third troll comment *still* gets dugg down... sometimes just on principle.
Anyway, whatever... don't take my advice. It's a damn good thing being dugg down/up isn't the same thing as karma on /. .... - yidali, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8it's even killing sony's attempt!
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16Damn true.
It's all about the fans, and keeping them happy.
I mean, I'd much rather have a guy like Major Nelson give me cool information about games and podcasts and such than hear a higherup tell me to get a second job because I'm too poor to buy their console.
But maybe it's just me... - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Its very simple: probably the #1 reason to own a 360 is Live, whereas the #1 reason to own the PS3 is ... the inferior graphical hardware... wait no, the awesome online functions... wait no, ok then MGS4! Surely you wouldn't buy it just because its a Sony console, right?
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I'm digging you up in the name of restoring the balance of nature on digg.
- zazzalicious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6An interesting article detailing the dvd output on the xBox 360.. very illuminating ... Xbox 360's Seriously Flawed DVD Playback.

- firen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I keep reading stories like this over and over again. This is not news. Sony is disconnected. Microsoft is connected. Sony continues to have negative news. Microsoft rarely does. It's all been said before.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Unfortunately being good & straight with the community means ***** all when it comes to sales.
Witness the difference in sales between Guild Wars (outstanding community relations) and WoW (craps all over the community). - ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I really don't understand the holy war, guys. Sitting below my TV is a Nintendo, a Super Nintendo, an N64, an Xbox, and Xbox 360, and a Wii.
The only console purchase I've ever regretted is an N64. Complete crap. Oh well.
I think the PS3 is over priced and has no really good games. Its online component pales in comparison to Xbox Live.
The Wii is a lot of fun, but for very different reasons than the 360. The Wii has novelty and innovative gameplay, where as the Xbox 360 builds an incredible sense of community and provides awesome "add-on value" with it's Media Center integration and various other multimedia capabilities.
But I don't hate Sony. If their console was a lot cheaper and offered some compelling games, I'd probably buy one. I don't really care who makes it.
The fact that so many people on Digg seem to care so deeply about this topic suggests that their position is held more out of ego than it is out of rationality.
Get a grip. - dRuNk3nIrIsHmEn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@jackson98
when i got the red rings of death, they sent me a brand new 360 within the week. i call that support. - jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@brendanc
Backwards compatibility - You know what it's not a big deal except that they promised it would be there. Looking back Microsoft didn't even put an effort into it. It was just smart marketing by Microsoft to take attention off of PS3 and their true backwards compatibility. Secondly when Sony had issues with backwards compatibility they came out and fixed it.
Dumping Xbox support when X360 launched - Hey if you want to be forced to upgrade when they release the new Xbox good for you. I personally like that Sony stands by it's consoles, it supported PS1 well into the life of PS2. And it's doing the same with PS2 now that PS3 is out. I feel good knowing that when PS4 releases I'm not going to just have a brick sitting in my house. I was dumb last generation and bought Xbox. This generation I went PS3 and am currently enjoying it and the many PS2 classics I missed.
Forcing user to add the HD - Exactly you proved my point. Why even offer Core when you know your going to screw them anyway. First they have to buy a ridiculously overpriced proprietary Harddrive. Second the X360 has USB ports but doesn't support external drives. Third it maxes at 20gb. - LightsOut06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Microsoft cares about it's customers..."
WOW. I have NEVER heard that one before. - DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I the only one who enjoyed my N64? Although the fact that I got it as a Christmas gift when I was in elementary school might have something to do with it, it had a ton of killer games I enjoyed playing.
I did miss out on some of the Playstation hits, but I didn't even know there were Playstation hits at the time. Heck I didn't even know the Playstation was released before the N64. It's funny looking back at how much I didn't know about the console wars at the time. That might've been the main reason why I enjoyed my N64. I wasn't constantly comparing it to other systems and comparing game libraries and "oh if I had that system I could be playing this". I just had fun. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'm sure this article is very persuasive -- to Xbox 360 fanboys.
It contains nothing except a person stroking himself for how smart he was to buy a 360. - monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Sony didn't do anything deadly wrong.
They just set the price about $100 too high, and MS had a year head start. - _HAM_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was humorous because it wasn't entirely clear that the Congressman was actaully using an analogy.
It was quite clear he had no idea what he was talking about and just spitting out bits and pieces of things he heard from his aides when they were trying to prep him for his address.
He was using an analogy, but its not a good idea when the person trying to explain through analogy doesn't even know what the analogy means. - Hoffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree with this article. One of the reasons I love the 360 is because of people like Major Nelson. On his podcast from two days ago, he talked about the recent story that the 360's DVD playback of movies is awful. He said that he would get someone that works on that part of the 360 on his show.
Sony has a problem with something and you hear nothing about it. Then when they actually fix it, nobody really knows if they fixed it. They don't talk about or announce anything. PS2 games now look better on the PS3, but Sony has never said one word about it. - alx242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My thoughts exactly...I just wonder how the hell it got from a fanboy post to be printed in the press...this feels just as bad as alliwantforxmas-sheit...:/
- MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2your grandma wasn't a person deciding internet laws while knowing absolutely ***** about the internet. And it wasn't just the tubes refrence. The whole speech shows how little the guy knows about the internet...the tubes part was just the most laughable.
- bobzibub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think it is the demographic speaking. Most of digg are kids and they can buy (or their parents) buy wiis and Xboxes. A $600 gaming console wouldn't have been on my parents' agenda either.
I do own a PS3 and do like it. I do think Sony has misstepped with their online store. It doesn't have things like music (Hello, Sony?) and movies etc. It will, but it currently looks like some beginners designed a static page some weekend.
I also think that MS doesn't give a crap about any of their customers, just their wallets. That fact has been proven over Microsoft's history going back to the 80s. Their "Astro-turf" campaigns come to mind such as this, I suspect. I don't see why Sony would be any different. But a fool is one that has loyalty to either of these companies because their "loyalty" to the consumer is clearly feigned; just different levels of sophistication.
Kudos go to Sony (and IBM) for their engineering though. - _HAM_, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just for the record...
The 360 ($399) comes with a wireless conftroller And the wifi adapter is $100. That will bring the price up to $499. So for $100 more you get blu-ray and a bigger hard drive on the PS3. So yeah, not bad.
Blu-ray is definitely taking off faster than HDDVD. But it still a long way to go to see who will be the victor. I think Blu-ray will win out. Sony is has alot of muscle and really wants to push it hard. And since they have alot of experience at failing to get new standards accepted, we can hope they have learned and know how to do it now.
But as this article points out MS has a HUGE advantage with XBL.. it is one thing they have done really really well.
As far as the Wii goes.... if you think it is a joke then you have already proven you are not a gamer. If you don't want all three consoles then IMO your not much of a gamer. Having a favorite is fine. But actually trying so hard to bend reality to see everything else has junk/joke is just fanboy crap. - captainspanky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im not a sony fanboy or a nintendo fanboy, but i could be called an ms-hater. mostly for the fact that they give u something nice, then try to sell u some thing better. For example, the 3 levels of comsumer vista. I see something similar with the xbox 306.
The xbox 360 is a next-gen console, and it deserves the name, especially for last year. this year they are coming out with revision 2 of it, besically because they realized it needed some fine tuning. but wat about next year and the years after. the processor in it isnt even a quad. your even able to get a quad core in your desktop now.
When sony started designing the ps3, they had longevity in mind. a perfect example of sony's history of longevity is the ps2. The ps2 won the console wars this christmas, and its a last gen console. Sony is in it for the long game, ms is in it for the short game.
And for anyone living in the dark, the wii is the most popular system right now, i mean who doesnt want one. oh wait, i no, the ppl who havent played one yet. and anyone who diggs regularly saw the article the other day about sundays are like launch days for they wii, cause ppl r still lining up to get them.
And then we have ppl who say, blu-ray is goin to kill the ps3. ive got a question for them, why? sony but the blu-ray drive in the ps3 for one reason, storage. they figured it would be better to give the developers the room for big games the will eventually be coming out. and you can't tell me games not need anymore, because they always need more room. the maker of mgs4 says he wants the 50GB blu-ray discs for his game, then again he also said he wanted it to come out for the other 2 consoles so we'll see.
And i guess the point i want to make, is stop passing judgement. All the consoles have they're pluses. and sony and nintendo dont care if your bad mouthing them, they'll win you back in game play. thats wat they strive for. ms wants the make money, that always thier primary goal. for example. everyone loves the xbox live, which is constantly putting free money in ms' pocket. - CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@MrFlesh,
"then they get together with developers and make thier locked in customers pay extra for every..."
You have no idea what you are talking about. MS doesn't "make" developers restrict a finished product, the developers do.
Hate all you want, but the 360 is the new *Playstation*. Get used to it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This article reeks of xbox fanboyism.
- blusky75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@zipzop.... ass. Allow me to clear things up for you...
No True HD? The 360 has had 1080P support since Q4 '06. And none of the PS3 scaler issues to boot.
Prev-gen technology? Again, wrong... been proven time and time again that tech-wise, the 360 and PS3 are graphical equals. In fact, every cross-platform game released has consistently performed better on the 360.
No upgradable HD? Moot. Sorry, but in 360 land we do just fine with out 20 gig HD :) Only two reasons the PS3 users need such a huge HD are: 1) You want to use your PS3 as a mass-storage media hub? You'll have to load all your movies and music directly onto the PS3's HD. 2) Developers have recognized that the PS3 load times are awful, and thus you have the option of cacheing your disc onto the HD to speed up load times. Neither are issues with the 360 (I stream all my movies and music across my lan via the 360 Media Center interface). No need for upgradable 360 HD's when I stream all my content from my 500GB media center PC.
For an MBA student as yourself, one would hope for more diligent fact checking. Guess not :) - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why should you care what people decide to spend their money on? If someone is really just dying to have a Lego Star Wars gamer picture and they think it's worth the 2 dollars it costs to buy it, then let them. There has never been a required micro transaction, they're just there. Personally, Geometry Wars is the only one I think is worth getting.
- freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ zirop ,Yes, but Sony also told us we should work more hours to afford one, that other systems were just an impulse buy, and that we wouldn't be able to utilize it all anyway. So I can see why people aren't thanking Sony for offering us real next gen technology.
- cloudless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Most games on Wii are made for the Wiimote and won't be available for other platforms.
Elebits / Cooking Mama / Wii Sports / Excite Truck / Wario Ware ....
They are definitely platform dependent. - pmcdaniel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think all three consoles do some things right and some things wrong. I think the media and fan boys/girls spends (or have) way too much time trying to tear down one of the consoles while bringing up the other.
In the end I believe that most games will be platform independent (I know you will have your Halo and Final Fantasys, but mostly games will be independent of platform) and thus the only difference between the consoles will be the controller, the interface, and the online store. So really which console you buy will largely depend on which controller you like better. You can try to argue which controller is better but honestly it largely depends on what you grew up playing and what feels right to each person. You can also try to argue money, but eventually both consoles will probably go for the same price, for instance we already see the race to get everything running with 65nm technology to lower cost.
That’s my 2 cents I guess I just wish Digg could get some real news on the front page instead of these stories from Joe Blow about how another console is better than the other. - OddTSi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do so many people make fun about the fact that one Congressman used the analogy of "tubes" to refer to the Internet? Everyone and their grandma uses the analogy of "pipes." How is a pipe that much different/better than a tube?
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@drunk3nirishmen Well I'm sorry it happened in the first place, but it is good to know they took care of it.
The problem lies in that it's not just you but a significant number. Here is an articles from a editor at IGN: http://blogs.ign.com/Matt-IGN/2007/01/19/44024/ - bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4One day, I'm going to write a post in my blog praising 360. Because that's apparently all I need to do to get on the front page of Digg. These articles have gotten to the point of being more obnoxious than worth reading.
- MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh dear jesus...going down this road again.....Do you honestly think that the Sony rep did not bring this possibility to developers when they were pitching them xbox live and microtransactions. And once again a microsooft fanboy pulls an opinion out of his/her ass and speaks it as truth no matter how many facts fly in thier face.
- _HAM_, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah that's cool and all, but it misses the mark on what is really cool, and who is doing what right.
What MS is starting to get right, what Sony has tried to get right ever since the PSone, and what Nintendo is getting right, right now is supporting small indie game development.
This generation will be good for gamers and indie game developers.
Anyone can go out and download XNA Game studio and download the game on their 360 right now (with a XBL and CC subscription)
Wii Dev kits are available for less than $2k. (of course after your companies been reviewed and application accepted).
and the PS3 has the potential to be the most wide open console ever.
If any of these consoles can create a pipeline for homebrew and indie games to reach the masses, and at the same time keeping up quality, then we all win out big.
Right now MS actually has the clearest path to do that. They have plans to juice up 360 indie game development and make it a big feature of XBL. Will have to wait and see if they pull it off. But I hope they do.
I Hate Microsoft... but I think the 360 and their XBL service is one of the first good products the company has ever made. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For any one that's never been there, go to www.majornelson.com The best thing about him is he has weekly podcasts, and even post on when new content is out on the Marketplace. Pretty handy site if you ask me...
- Neobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's funny watching the xbots try to hold on to their propaganda. Enjoy it while it last.
Listen, the PS3 just came out. More games, better games, better on-line, better graphics...and eventually lower price will come to the PS3. - zirzop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@bluesky75...
So you are trying to convince me (and yourself) that a propriatery, small HD, is better than having a large and easily upgradable HD?
And how do you stream your media to XBOX again? Through Wi-Fi? Let me guess, you had to shell out another $100 bucks for that... but no prob, as long as it is XBOX, the money is totally worth it... (I tend to feel that you will try to convince me that Wi-Fi is useless, and using LAN cables is better)...
@ PS3, I have a choice to stream, or use my HD. Infact, I could just plug another USB HD, and watch movie out of it if I wanted to... On XBOX, you do not have any choice... but who cares, "XBOX rulezzzzz..."...
Comparing XBOX to PS3 is a shame... YOu guys are looking at a device which is at its high utilization (XBOX) vs. a device that is barely being utilized... In few years time, You will see how different games on XBOX 360 and PS3 will look (when developers get used to PS3), and you know what, you will prob. end up buying a PS3 anyway...
Before trying to "clear things out" for others, I would suggest you to try to clear out your issues first... Calling someone "ass", for no purpose tells me that you may indeed have serious stuff going on in your life...
Relax... -
