I remember playing that for hours everday after school. When I found the secret's spread out through most levels I would light up and show my brother who was 3 years older then I. Then he would kick my ass to the side so he could use the new secret to his advantage. - bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -5/+37haha you guys are getting buried because you're young.

Then Nintendo... everything from Mario to Zelda, TMNT (everyone), and so on.
and then it came... the game that finished turning me into a total nerd... Monkey Island...

Dwango was my first taste of online gaming. As soon as it touched the tip of my tongue, I wanted more and more.
I remember racking up a 70 dollar long distance bill because there no local phone numbers in my area. I used the Houston server (from western NY)!
My parents were pissed. - deftech, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Kings Quest 3 man! I don't know how many times I tried different key combos, 'look up skirt', 'stab in heart', 'throw on ground and start licking'.
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Castles of Dr. Kreep for the Commodore 64
And seeing Doom for the first time. I had played Wolfenstein quite a bit, but seeing Doom for the first time was a (somewhat) life changing experience. - PhantomRogue, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES. The game that inspired my first of many all night gaming sessions.

(yes, I'm aware it was supposed to be a dragon) - Wolfie351, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The question was, what game turned you into a gamer. My first video game was also Pong. But, it wasn't until Wizardry that I would stay up for days playing a video game.
- ohmyblazes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Super Mario Bros. - One of my very first (if not the first) memories was playing that game at Showbiz (now Chucky Cheese) when I was 2. I couldn't even get past the first Goomba most of the time but I played it like crazy anyway.
- masterkenobi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Star Wars, the arcade game...you know, the really old school one where you sit down and Obiwan talks to you while you fly your X-Wing and kill red line drawings that are Tie-Fighters? Yeah man...
- IHaveIssues, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Quake 1 - online.
- JDoggqx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Playing Asteroids on an Atari 2600 with my dad back when I was 4.
Super Mario Bros. 1 rekindled my love after the video game crash, though I played arcade games whenever I could find them during those years. - gigabyte3d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers on NES.

I don't even know which one really got me hooked -- some of my favorites were HHGTTG (text-based adventure), Doom II, Zelda & Blaster Master on NES, MajorMUD (BBS game). Unreal Tournament has been my franchise of choice since its release. It's almost like asking what your favorite game of all-time is -- I can't pick less than a dozen! - DarkGrim, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Goldeneye - Perfect Dark, before those 2 games I played recreational like, now it's all competing against friends etc.

- Universe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Adventure on Atari 2600, and Dragon Warrior and Super Mario Bros. on NES.
