3. Profit! - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54No way I'm turning in my weaponry right before GTA 4 hits the shelves.
- ChumpChief, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45It's not Microsoft doing this. RTFA.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48Huh? What's the street price of a worthless gun in Mexico? $25? These turn in programs do one thing: give crooks money for real working weapons. The vast majority of the guns turned in are old, non-functional, and worthless.

- orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18What if I turn in the original light gun from my old NES? I haven't played duck hunt in ages.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18He submitted it!

- robwicks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Doesn't anyone ever realize that gun buybacks are useless? Only law abiding citizens would ever turn in a good, working gun, and they are precisely the people who should keep theirs. A criminal uses his gun as a tool to make a lot more money than an XBox 360 is worth. Some of them might turn in some old piece of junk, but nothing good. All this does is waste money, and get guns from people who don't know how to use them or don't want them in the first place. Ridiculous.

O_o - omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Why do people think removing guns from people that obey the rules is going to reduce crime? Bang up job it's done in Washington DC, huh? Guns are illegal in DC, except if you're law enforcement... So why do they have such a high crime rate (aside from being mostly politicians and lawyers)?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"So why do they have such a high crime rate (aside from being mostly politicians and lawyers)?"
There is no way to answer that question without being racist or at least politically incorrect. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, in a street fight, 360 wireless controllers pose much less of a threat than a pellet loaded slingshot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+74 steps in the underpants gnome's master plan is about as stupid as a paragraph long "In Soviet Russia..."
Stick to 3... or don't do it. - adameros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And the last person with a gun steals everyone else's 360s. :-P

FTA: "they're offering a free computer to those citizens who turn in high-calibre weapons (such as machine guns), AND A XBOX 360 TO ANYONE WHO HANDS IN A SMALLER FIREARM." (emphasis mine)
Don't be a douche. Besides, it's been a while, but I bought a surplus Mosin-Nagant (7.62x54R, same caliber that the Kalashnikov PKS general purpose belt-fed machine gun is chambered for) from Rose's department store for $40. (Rose's is a cheesy version of Wal-Mart, if you can believe that!) And this was back during the Assualt Weapons Ban, when the gun laws were a bit more restrictive.
I traded it a few months later to a dude for an almost new Orion 225 HCCA amp (worth about $400!). - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Next up for Mexican officials - trade in your gun for US Citizenship!
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A street fight where guns don't jam; they drop their connections.
(Guy hides behind car for cover) "Come on, sync! *****!" (while pushing the sync button) - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bet it'll go off better than Sony's cash for PS3 plan.
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I suppose it's better to be wrong and considered normal than to be right and considered a racist... or politically incorrect.

Pertaining to the story, Its illegal to own anykind of firearms in Mexico. - IEatHamburgers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You don't need a passport 'till June 2008 if you're driving, BTW

- ZakColeman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Or I guess you could just go there and say here is my gun, just playin', give me all them 360's fool.

- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Do they get the gun back if they find out that it's a Core system? I know I would.
- insomuchas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol Ive got a pretty inexpensive rifle I'd trade for a 360.
- glock22ownr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@gamerzcorner :
Well actually I hear you can pick up an AK for less than 100 bucks in some areas. That would qualify! I think the only reason theblooms has not been burried is bc he may actually have a point lol ! Is this the next answer to terrorism ? Xbox for an RPG ? And btw if you read the article an AK would get you a whole computer ! Handgun == 360 - insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not sure, but maybe people are bringing guns into DC? It's not they like they have border checks.
In Australia (and many other countries) we have very restrictive guns laws and a very low rate of crime involving guns. In my entire life I have only seen one gun up close, and that was a hunting rifle. - Exodin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So umm...
1 bullet = 1 game?? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that might work but they are going to have to up the ante to get their knives
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm sure most of them follow the Scarface strategy, since all wanna be gangstas do...
"First you get the money, then you get the POWER, then you get the woman."
If they have guns, then I'm sure they have money, or at least a convenient way to get some.
And jumping directly to step 3, all chicks dig air conditioning, televisions, and xbox 360's. - wolvyne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm just waiting for someone to hold them up and take all the 360's
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Get rid of your gun, that's one less dumbass that owns a gun. It's not the guns that kill people, it's the dumbasses behind the guns that kill people. If your logic was correct, then guns owned and being currently used by properly trained people would still kill people. No, it's the people that don't know how to use a gun, or the people horse-playing around with guns, that kill people. How can you dispute the "Video games kill people" but not the "guns kill people" arguments?
- daskro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ gamerzcorner
@ Glock22ownr
The article is journalistic sensationalism, using buzzwords like "high caliber machine gun." Neither of you have any idea what a "high caliber machine gun" is. An Ak-47 is a machine gun, but 7.62mm is not high caliber. A M107 .50 cal rifle is a high caliber rifle, but not a machine gun. A .50 cal M2 is a high caliber machine gun, a 20mm soviet KPV is a high caliber machine gun. Gangbangers and drug runners do not use "high caliber machine guns." - joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what formulavette is saying isn't that he doesn't get the joke, it's just the ***** underpants gnome joke I've ever read.
It has 4 steps, AND the whole idea is that the joke is supposed to demonstrate the stupidity of a plan, you can't just throw it around at perfectly functional ideas that would be easy to do. - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hath no one seen Family Guy?
Trade in the gun. Get the 360. The guy you just gave the gun to points it at you and says "give me the 360". You give the guy the 360. He leaves with your gun and the 360.
Human Progress my ass. - kevincw01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its illegal to own firearms in mexico so there are no law-abiding gun-wielding citizens in mexico.
- prorixum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, buybacks are useful for criminals, too. Great way to dispose of the evidence.
- NoSpaceForRent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ warpfox
I admit I'm not too familiar with products to loosen one's ass, but what exactly is he meant to do with those items? To me it looked like something used to clean old VHS players, I know it is on a sex store site but I still don't get it. - tghd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1According to Mexican law anybody that owns a gun is not a law abiding citizen. Its illegal to own firearms in Mexico.
