In North America alone, the series of games has earned over $1 billion. In fact, the third title even did so well as to be the top title in 2007.

    RB is better in groups, GH is better for those who love the guitar (the charts for guitar are better in GH)
    I have both, its the best solution. I love the drums, so RB gets alot of my attention, but I still like guitar too, so I play both solo, and I always bring 2 guitars (GH guitars, im not a fan of the RB one), the drums, the mic, RB, GH2 and GH3 when I go over to a buddy's house to enjoy them...

    You dont have to like one more than the other...wy the hell does everyone have to make everything so damned polar?

I must confess as I was working my way through expert I started thinking...why put all this effort in when I could be learning the real guitar. So I went out and bought a cheap electric and an acoustic, haven't looked back. Real guitar is certainly harder, but definitely more rewarding. If GH encourages a few people like me to take up guitar it's all good right.

  • jasmus, on 01/22/2008, -0/+7I find often the sequences of button presses don't always line up with how it would be played on a real guitar, meaning knowledge of playing a real guitar can hurt you in this game sometimes. Also, I could swear they throw in different patterns for the same riff occasionally just to screw you up. Plus it took me a long time to stop myself from adding extra strums between notes like I often do on a guitar.

  • nicko68, on 01/22/2008, -0/+6I disagree. The guitar parts in Rock Band aren't as fun as the ones in Guitar Hero, but Rock Band is fun to play with others. So Guitar Hero for solo experience, Rock Band for group.

    I own 10 real guitars. I'm a "professional" guitarist and attended college for composing.

    I love Guitar Hero to death. I play it nearly every day, at least GH2. It's just a game of Simon that happens to use a guitar controller, it's not about really wanting to play guitar, it's a different dynamic entirely.

    That being said.... I'm tired of people saying GH is easier than real guitar. A lot of the GH songs on expert are harder to play than the real guitar counterpart! Jordan I can rock the hell out of on a real guitar, but on Guitar Hero? Ugh, it's like impossible. I definitely say it's sometimes it's easier just to do it for real, because the difficulty on GH is ramped up to be challenging on Expert, whereas playing it on a real guitar is just much more straight forward and easier as long as you're comfortable with the instrument to begin with.

  • FXPooky, on 01/22/2008, -0/+5Actually I thought the RB guitar note charts were way more realistic and fun to play than GH3's (on expert)... the GH3 devs made the note charts partly based on what they heard and mostly to be very very challenging so people can show off. So basically, GH3 is great for destroying your hands and showing off, while Rock Band isn't as hard but more realistic. That's what I think anyway.
