- KnockoutNerd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Sets the stage for Halo DS.
- frygar, on 10/10/2007, -9/+34Wow, Nintendo. You sell Rare to MS, then manage to get most of Rare's games on your handheld systems, compared to 3, no 4, titles that appeared on MS' console. Props.
MS - lol pwned. - Arkageon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26Nifty. This makes me think that a MS handheld might not be coming around afterall. Not that that's a bad thing, two handhelds is enough in the industry.
- Yousty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Do you people not realize that MS is allowing this in hopes of attracting people to their 360 version?
There are 45 million DS's in the world and if this game becomes popular then it will naturally make people want to try the 360 version. This is just MS trying to get a series popular in order to sell more of their games. I own a 360 and Viva Pinata and a DS and I think this is great strategic move by MS to try and promote this great game. Can't wait to try it on my DS. - Snorglorf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Guess who's buying it?
Me. - qwerty1024, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21The Rare acquisition is looking more and more ridiculous each passing day
- rasputinaxp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Except for MS basically owning Rare and the IP involved in this deal, which means they make boatloads of cash... Where's the ownage?
- uncleLeo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15it's coming out for the PC too
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Who wants Viva Pinata on the DS? I does.
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Um.... see "Age of Empires DS" and "Zoo Tycoon DS."
- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Microsoft is a business and will go where the money is. Businesses are beyond petty fanboyism, so if they can make money by releasing a game on a competitors system without harming themselves, it makes sense for them to do it. I think MS probably weighed it up and figured that a DS version of VP isn't going to make people jump ship from the 360 to DS, and it probably isn't a 'killer app' on DS that'd inflate Nintendo's profit. Now, Nintendo releasing Mario on 360... that'd be suicide :)
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Viva Pinata! Filled with Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- FierceGrape, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10***** that, I want Halo 1 and 2 on the Wii.
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6yeah...I don't quite see the poneage
- zyl0x, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15Microsoft releasing a game on a Nintendo system? APOCALYPSE!
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7At least that would be more fun than playing nintendogs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't know why you're getting dugg down. I think it would be hilarious to be fighting the big poo monster on the Metro on the way to work in the morning. :)
- pseudo.hero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6@qwerty1024
Are you kidding? Viva Pinata was a great and addicting game. It'll probably carry well over onto DS. - FuryVII, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That was his point.
- felyduw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Why ? Is there that much a rivalry between Nintendo and Microsoft ? If it were Sega and Nintendo (the hell has already froze because of that) or Nintendo and Sony or even Microsoft and Sony...
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5Wow, I actually had to think for a second as to what the second handheld was. I even had a fleeting moment of "But the GBA is all but dead".
- REXNFX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Just wait until Killer Instinct 3 comes out. That might be their redemption.
- dogstylee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Perfect game for a handheld. I think it would look great on the PSP's screen but will work better on the DS's screens..
- josegutz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4YAY... Preztails for everyone!
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No way in hell MS develops for the PSP, or any other Sony platform, while the two machines (PS3 and 360) are such close competitors. No chance. I think both Sony and MS still see Nintendo as being in a different market. Despite the wholloping they're both taking in the market all three are actually in.
- TheTjalian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Very nice! I haven't been able to check out the 360 version due to the lack of a 360, but now I'll get to check out what the craze is about.
- johnhummel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Considering the power of the Wii to the Xbox 1, that actually would be pretty cool. I've finally started playing Halo 2 on the original Xbox, and after playing Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, it's almost painful to try and line up those analog sticks.
- Mikecol, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If that's true then Xbox's handheld offering would simply squeeze the PSP out of the market. Which I would welcome.
- TheTjalian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Don't you get it? Microsoft bringing their franchises to the DS only forces to play better with the PSP, which then distracts their PS3 efforts. It's essentially forcing Sony to burn the candle at both ends, and my god it's a dirty tactic. Works like a gem, though!
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This news makes Goldeneye 64 on Virtual Console more plausible.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it's interesting, cuz nintendo, while not exactly a graphics powerhouse, has the most innovative controls for their newest home console and handheld. both the wii and DS actually seem like they have far more intuitive input devices for FPS games than tradition console controllers. yet they also seem to be the last brand associated with FPS gaming.
i've always wanted to try playing a good FPS using the wii, but haven't had the chance to. it definitely seems like it would be funner than trying to use an analog stick to aim though. - asurroca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What would completely amaze me is if Viva Pinata on the Xbox 360 and Viva Pinata DS can communicate, e.g. transfer pinatas, saved gardens, etc. between the two consoles. THEN, hell would be frozen over.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No surprise. "PC" (aka Windows) is a Microsoft platform. Many Nintendo games find themselves between all of Nintendo's platforms.
That said, it's no surprise given that the 360 seemed to be a bad match for Viva Pinata's target audience. Which is too bad, since the game wound up awesome and actually uses Live along with Achievements.
Let's just hope it's not Vista-exclusive. - gage006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nintendo and Microsoft alliance seems like a great idea, they both are competing in nearly separate arenas for their home consoles. Now if it were Sony and Microsoft, THEN it would be the apocalypse.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1definitely makes sense. but i don't think it's just that. i'm sure they're making money on the DS game as well. and the game probably isn't helping to sell the DS in any significant way. even if it were, MS isn't competing in the handheld market.
heck, if the game does well and people want it on the Wii, it would be in MS's interest to port it to the Wii as well. Ninteno and Microsoft just aren't each other's main competitors, as others have already mentioned. MS's game studios are separate entities from their Xbox division. they're going to port their games to whatever platform will sell the most games as long as it doesn't hurt MS's interests (like porting Xbox exclusives like Halo to PS3). - Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Viva Pinata is my favorite game on the 360. Playing it, I was imagining it would make an excellent DS game, much like how Animal Crossing was improved 100x just for making it on the DS. Considering that Microsoft in the past has confirmed they were going to publish games on the Nintendo DS (such as Rare's games and MistWalker's, the first being ASH), I knew this would someday be possible and plausible.
- bluemansteele, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1o.0
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Patience.
- blurrie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2microsoft do. nice.
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1you forgot the two thumbs part
who's got two thumbs and loves VP
this guy - n4tune8, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Why not on the Wii then?
- JohnPalmer2007, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I was the one lucky enough to break this news to Kotaku.com. I was at the press conference where they announced this and the PC version as well. I have a video of the announcement and some more information on my site: http://johnpalmer2007.googlepages.com/
- Yousty, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3buried because you don't know the difference between there and their.
go to school - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+6OK- now they need Conkers Bfd for the DS
- imikedaman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1"yet they also seem to be the last brand associated with FPS gaming."
That's because hardcore gamers want hardcore graphics, not super colorful happy Mario-style graphics which Nintendo's consoles seem specifically designed to handle. - shamanking, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4YES! Now i can feed the pinata there parents on the go!
Its to bad the graphics had to be downgraded so much the orriginal is such a beautiful game - bluemansteele, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2YEEEESH! *ahem* I mean.. yea sounds good. DS is my only game system right now. When I saw viva piƱata on XBOX I really though, hey this would be so much better as a hand held game. I thought it would surely hit PSP first but will be glad to have it on my DS.
- melissawm, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Age of Empires is already on the DS.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -10/+1I'll eat donkey excrement and gouge my eyes out with a rusty butter knife the day that happens.
- commiecat, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2Guess who's downloading it?
Me. R4 + 2GB MicroSD = DS goodness.
Oh c'mon -- it's Microsoft! If you pirate an MS game for a Nintendo platform, does that make you good or evil?
